So listen carefully to what I have to say.

I'm speaking of the possibility that...

...the current Crown Prince may not ascend to the throne.

Your Majesty?

If that happens, the only person who can take his place...

...is your son, Prince Yeon Ing.

So I ask you this.

Will you be able to raise him as King?

Your Majesty, what are you talking about?

Raise Prince Yeon Ing as King? But that's... that's...

- Consort Choi... - Your Majesty!

Your Majesty, you must not say such things!

Prince Yeon Ing is...

Prince Yeon Ing is a legitimate son of His Majesty.

There is no reason why he cannot ascend to the throne.

But... His Highness is alive.

How can we talk about this when he is...

That's why I said...

If there was a possibility that the Crown Prince could not ascend...

I'm asking you what you would do?

What is this possibility you're referring to, Your Majesty?

Why are you talking about this?

Consort Choi...

Episode 48

The Office of Royal Lectures is meant only for the Crown Prince.

So how could they include Prince Yeon Ing?

The Queen intends to use Consort Choi's child...

...to destabilize the Crown Prince.

She plans to push him aside and put Prince Yeon Ing in that position!

This matter of Prince Yeon Ing at the Office...

...is something we should watch carefully.

But perhaps you are being overly suspicious...

...by thinking Her Majesty intends to cast him out.

This is not important enough to destabilize His Highness' position.

Not important enough?

The Office of Royal Lectures is responsible for educating the Crown Prince.

But now another prince will receive that education.

How can you say that is not the Queen's intention?

You must put a stop to this.

Make sure Prince Yeon Ing doesn't step foot inside the Office.

Do you hear me?

Yes, Your Highness.

This is too much. This is definitely too much.

What is it...? What is making her so anxious?

Third War Minister, you must gather support for us.

It is too early for the Crown Prince to get married.

Is it not better to proceed with the nuptials...

...and produce royal offspring quickly.

Just...!

Just do as you're told, Third War Minister.

Stop asking so many questions, do you understand?

But why did that have to happen now? Why...!

Brother!

Brother...

Could there be a problem with the Crown Prince?

I'm sure the Queen suspects something.

Your Highness, you can't be sure of that...

No. She wouldn't do something like this otherwise.

The Office of Royal Lectures is meant only for the Crown Prince.

Why would she suggest that Prince Yeon Ing be taught there?

She wants to be prepared.

She wants Prince Yeon Ing to have a royal education...

...in case the Crown Prince is unable to ascend to the throne.

We have to find that nurse.

We have to find out what the Queen knows.

We have to find her.

Yes, we are searching high and low for her.

So please calm down. I fear you will become sick at this rate.

I feel like I'm losing my mind.

I haven't been able to sleep a single night...

...ever since Consort Choi brought her son back.

Your Highness, you mustn't do this to yourself!

Geum, you said you read the "Doctrine of the Mean".

What does this mean?

Isn't that the introduction to the "Doctrine of the Mean"?

That means the reason why he wrote the "Doctrine of the Mean".

Yes, you're right. So what does he say was his reason?

Zhu Xi explained that he wished to maintain harmony...

...by directing the mind to a constant equilibrium.

Yes, you're absolutely right!

- So you really read this by yourself? - Yes, Father.

Did you both hear that?

This child understood this book all by himself.

And this is the great "Doctrine of the Mean".

His Highness is a true prodigy. I have never seen such a thing before.

Yes, he is a prodigy. He is a true prodigy!

Your Majesty, the Crown Prince is here.

Yes, send him in.

Your Highness.

- Father. - Yes, my son. Come and sit here.

You did a fine job at the Book Completion celebration today.

- I summoned you here to praise you. - Thank you, Father.

The Crown Prince is so accomplished, and his brother is exceptional.

I am so pleased I could dance.

Yes, Your Majesty. This is because you are blessed.

Yes! Yes, you're right.

What is this possibility you're referring to, Your Majesty?

Why are you talking about this?

Consort Choi...

I can't tell you the reason right now.

But when it's the right time, I will tell you everything.

- Your Majesty! - For now, just know this.

Prince Yeon Ing may become the next King of our nation.

And you will have to be prepared when it happens.

What could the reason be?

What has happened to the Crown Prince?

What has made Her Majesty speak of such a thing?

What? The Ministers have gathered at the Great Hall?

Yes, Your Majesty.

They want to discuss your decision...

...to let Prince Yeon Ing study at the Office of Royal Lectures.

Please reconsider your decision, Your Majesty.

It is not right that Prince Yeon Ing will carry out his studies...

...at the Office of Royal Lectures.

Please reconsider your decision.

How many times must I say this?

This is not only for the benefit of Prince Yeon Ing.

It is also for the benefit of the Crown Prince.

No, that is not true, Your Majesty.

This is not right. Please reconsider your decision.

Please reconsider your decision.

Ministers, it will be good for the Crown Prince...

...to study alongside the Prince.

In addition,

The Crown Prince used to have a study partner when he was younger.

Why are you protesting because it is Prince Yeon Ing?

Pardon my Your Majesty,

But that is because Prince Yeon Ing is a Royal Prince.

Having a nobleman's child as a study partner is entirely different...

...than including a Royal Prince at the Office of Royal Lectures.

Doing so may destabilize the Crown Prince's position.

Third War Minister, you take things too far!

Destabilize the Crown Prince's position? How dare you speak of such a thing!

The ministers' reaction is to be expected.

I too think that it is wrong for Prince Yeon Ing...

...to study at the Office of Royal Lectures.

Just the fact that he has a gift will make him a threat to them.

But to study at the Office of Royal Lectures?

His Majesty cares deeply for Prince Yeon Ing.

I know that. I know that it's an expression of love.

But I must not allow His Majesty to get into trouble...

...because of the Prince and I again.

No, I will not take back my order.

I did not make this decision just to cause chaos.

Your Majesty...

I didn't do anything for him for the past six years.

Now I want to give him a suitable education.

What is so wrong with that?

Because this involves the Crown Prince, Your Majesty.

- You're saying the same thing they are. - Your Majesty!

I thought this would be good for the Crown Prince as well...

I know what your intentions were.

I know you did this for both Prince Yeon Ing and the Crown Prince.

Dong Yi...

But this is a problem because it is about the Office of Royal Lectures.

- Please understand. - Then what about Prince Yeon Ing?

- He needs the best teachers! - He has Master Woon Hak, Your Majesty.

I told you that he will not acquiesce so easily.

He won't.

Maybe he's not coming anymore.

- Now the house is going to be quiet. - Master! Here you are!

Your Highness, what are you doing?

What is that in your hand...?

- I cleaned your room. It was so dirty. - What?

- You mean you cleaned it yourself? - Yes, it is my duty as your student.

The great masters say that...

A true man must keep his place clean and tidy always.

But why are you always so untidy?

Well, I...

Mother told me to follow your example in everything.

What a predicament.

One lives in the largest place.

One stands in the most honest place.

- One does the... - Be quiet, Your Highness.

Please forgive me, Master.

Please forgive me.

You must enjoy studying, Your Highness.

Yes, Master. I am happiest when I'm reading.

- But what use is all that knowledge? - Master?

What use? To share with others, of course!

To share with others?

Yes, that is what Mother told me.

If Heaven gives someone a special talent,

It is not theirs to own because that talent was taken from others.

She said I must work hard so that I can use the talent I was given...

...for the good of the poor and the hungry.

I agree with what she said.

She should have told you to focus on keeping your belly full.

I worry for your future because you have such a mother.

What? Why? Why do you worry for me, Master?

Master!

I know what your intentions were.

I know you did this for both Prince Yeon Ing and the Crown Prince.

Dong Yi...

But this is a problem because it is about the Office of Royal Lectures.

Please understand.

Chief Eunuch!

- Yes, Your Majesty. - I wish to go somewhere.

Excuse me, what are you doing?

Oh yes, you must be Woon Hak.

I'm glad to meet you. So this is what you look like.

Who are you? And what are you doing here?

I'm a father who has left his son in your care.

I thought I might curry favor with you if I help rake your field.

- What on earth are you doing? - Father!

Oh, Prince Yeon Ing!

I'm his father.

- That means... - I'm the King.

Your Majesty!

Your Majesty, I didn't recognize you. Please forgive me.

It's all right. You may rise. Hurry.

Why are you so difficult to meet?

So this is what you look like.

Please forgive me for my humble room.

Don't worry about this.

I have been worse places because of Consort Choi and Prince Yeon Ing!

Your Majesty?

Pardon me, Your Majesty, but why didn't you say something?

- Say what? That I'm King? - Yes, Your Majesty.

That's because I'm not here as King.

I'm here as a father today.

I heard that Consort Choi came here to ask you to be Prince Yeon Ing's teacher.

- I'm here for the same reason. - Your Majesty...!

You must have realized what kind of child Prince Yeon Ing is by now.

I would like that precious child to be taught by the best teacher.

That is why I have come to bow my head before you.

I know you, so I won't ask you to come and work in government.

But won't you agree to be his teacher?

I'm afraid you've wasted your time, Your Majesty.

Now, Master Woon Hak...

I have already decided to be Prince Yeon Ing's teacher.

You'll be his teacher?

You've already decided?

Yes, Your Majesty.

That is why you didn't need to come here.

Woon Hak!

You mean Master Woon Hak said yes?

That's right! You saw him too.

How could he refuse when the King himself came to see him?

He said "Yes, Your Majesty, I will obey!"

Your Majesty...

Father, does that mean he will be my master?

Yes, Geum, your father got you a teacher!

Yes!

Your Majesty, why did you go out of your way for this?

That is...

- Actually, I'm joking. - What?

Woon Hak had already decided to teach him,

But I wanted to take some of the credit.

Your Majesty!

That's...

That place is still there.

I came here with you, but now we are here with our child.

Geum!

Let's go!

Come and have a drink with your father.

Did you say a drink?

Yes, other fathers do this with their sons!

But Your Majesty, Prince Yeon Ing is only seven!

He's still a young boy!

Mother, didn't you say I was a young man?

- Well, that was... - You're such a clever boy, Geum!

Madam, bring us some wine and pork skin!

Father, you eat things like that too?

Of course! It's a pity I can't get it in the Palace.

It's because of your mother.

Come to think of it, she's the cause of many of my new experiences.

Running... and climbing walls.

Your Majesty, I was the one who climbed the walls.

Wait, Father said he climbed walls very well.

- That's right! - Goodness...!

- Is that what he said? He... - What's that?

You will not say anymore. It's an order!

You always give orders at times like these.

Actually, your father...

Your mother sure loves to make up things.

Your Highness, it's late. Perhaps you should...

No...

- I can't sit and wait. - Your Highness...!

- Be careful. - Yes, My Lady.

- Where is Jong-Geum? - She just left the Palace.

We must be careful. They will not be careless either.

Please don't worry, Your Majesty. She is a clever girl.

Your Majesty, are you all right?

I'm all right. Don't worry.

You got this condition when you were in exile...

...and now it's troubling you again.

Yes, if I think about...

How difficult it was for me physically and emotionally during that time...

It's a miracle that I can endure it.

But it seems to be bothering you much more lately, Your Majesty.

Don't worry. I still have the strength to bear it.

Your Majesty...!

From the day I became Queen, I have accomplished nothing.

This is the last thing I will be able to do for the monarchy as well as the government.

It is unfortunate, but if everything we suspect is true,

The truth must be revealed about the Crown Prince, at the very least for his sake.

And the next Crown Prince must be appointed legitimately.

Your Highness!

- Brother! - Your Highness.

Let's go inside.

What did you find out?

As expected, one of the Queen's attendants left the Palace.

If the Queen was behind the nurse's disappearance,

Then the girl will lead us to her.

You must be careful. It could be a trap.

Yes, I ordered them to just watch until we confirm everything first.

The truth must never be revealed. If that happens, the Crown Prince will...

He will not be able to ascend to the throne.

Yes, Your Highness.

- Madam! - Enter.

Did you make the inquiry?

Yes, this is the date and time of Prince Yeon Ing's birth.

- Did you inform them of my arrival? - Yes, Madam.

I heard you were a shaman with a special gift.

Here it is. Can you read the fortune?

- What is it? - It's no use. You should leave, Madam.

What?

The body will soon die and rot. What use is this fortune?

Die? Who?

It will be soon enough. You will burn in the fire you started.

What...? Fire?

The fire you started not long ago.

How do you...?

How is Her Majesty? Is there something that can be done?

Her Majesty's condition has worsened?

Yes. She has deteriorated recently,

But she has been keeping it secret so His Majesty wouldn't worry.

I think Her Majesty is doing something dangerous all by herself.

- Dangerous? - That's right.

I think she wants to tell me something important,

But she's hiding it to protect me.

So you need to find out what it is.

I'm scared that something will happen to her.

- Yes, Your Highness. - Yes, Your Highness.

No... no... no...!

It will be soon enough. You will be burned in the fire you started.

No... no... I can't die like this! Is anyone there?

Yes, Madam!

Bring them to me! Bring them!

Madam?

If I had been here one day earlier, she would have been mine!

Woe is me!

Dong Yi!

Disguise the fact that it's an assassination...

...and leave this suicide note inside his clothes.

He's been seen lurking around the house,

So no one will question that he was the one who set the fire.

Yes, Madam.

As for you, once the work is done, leave the capital.

I will give you as much money as you need,

So you must never return here.

- Do you understand? - Yes, Madam!

Why is he so late?

What are you doing outside?

- Ho-Yang is later than usual. - That fool is probably drinking again.

- How did I end up with a son like him? - Don't be too harsh. He's still your son.

I'm going to consider him as your son from now.

His Majesty's son is a prodigy.

Why do I have to end up with him?

That's because the soil was bad!

What? The soil was great, if I may say so myself!

Do you think your seed was special?

You startled me! Woe is me!

Where is that boy? Wait 'til he gets back!

What is it?

- Dong Yi! You're here! - What's wrong with him?

He really wants to die. Take him away!

Yes, sir!

Let go of me! Let go!

You wretches, do you know who I am?

I am the descendent of the Poongsun Oh Clan.

You're all going to die for this!

Get him up!

Help..! Have mercy!

Help me! Help me...!

Who goes there?

Get him!

Let's go!

Help...! Help me!

Are you all right? What happened?

Thank you so much, sir!

You saved my life. Thank you, sir!

Wait, you look really familiar.

Where have I seen you before?

Probably at the Palace.

You...!

Chun Soo...

- What? Officer Cha has returned? - Yes, Officer Cha has returned.

Wait, he's now Tribunal Inspector Cha.

Consort Choi will be overjoyed.

Officer Cha...

What good news! I'm so happy I could dance.

Sir!

I, Tribunal Inspector Cha Chun Soo, greet you, Your Majesty.

- Welcome. - Your Majesty!

- Chun Soo... - Your Highness.

Chun Soo...!

Have you been well, Your Highness?

What happened? How are you here...?

His Majesty summoned me back.

He asked me to return to protect you and Prince Yeon Ing.

Chun Soo...

Your Highness, you're going to fall down.

- Mother! - Your Highness...

- Your Highness, this is... - Yes, this is Prince Yeon Ing.

Geum, you must give your greetings. This is...

I know, Mother. This is my uncle.

Uncle!

Your Highness...

My name is Prince Yeon Ing. You know me, right?

Yes, of course, Your Highness.

I have all the letters you wrote to me.

Uncle!

Look at how you've grown. How big you are!

How you must have suffered in that far away place all by yourself.

No, I wasn't by myself.

I read all the letters you and Prince Yeon Ing sent me,

...so I was always with you.

I was able to endure that long and lonely time...

Because I knew I would be able to meet you and Prince Yeon Ing again.

And I will never allow the two of you to suffer like you did before.

Chun Soo...

You must have faith in me and be patient, Your Highness.

It won't be long.

I will not let them be under the same sky as you for long.

I will bring another bowl of tonic for you in three hours, Your Highness.

Wait, Physician Nam.

What is this tonic that I'm drinking?

Your Highness?

I know this isn't from the Royal Pharmacy.

- Your Highness, that is... - Tell me, what is my condition?

Your Highness...

What condition am I suffering from that it has be hidden and kept secret like this?

What am I suffering from? Why is everyone being so secretive?

Your Highness!

I greet you, Your Highness.

What was...? How did you...?

Why are you coming down from there?

Oh, the tree? To tell you the truth...

- Your Highness! - Your Highness! Where did he go?

Your Highness, we give up!

Why did you want to play hide and seek after all those times outside the Palace?

I thought he couldn't get far in the Palace.

You were more excited than me just now.

- Your Highness! - Your Highness! Wait for me!

- Hide and seek? - Yes, I was hiding in the tree.

They can never find me up there.

But to hide up a tree? That's so dangerous.

It's not dangerous at all. I'm an expert at climbing trees.

- Your Highness! - Your Highness, please hide me.

Your Highness!

Your Royal Highness!

- Your Highness! - Your Highness!

It looks safe. You can come out now.

Thank you, Your Highness! I don't have to be seeker now.

- You don't like being seeker? - Of course not. Do you?

No, I didn't like being the seeker either.

You too?

Since you helped me, I need to express my appreciation.

Here you go, Your Highness.

That is...

Dates, Your Highness. I picked them from that tree.

- You want me to eat these now? - Yes, they're really sweet!

You don't like them? Please forgive me, I...

No, give them to me.

Then I'll take my leave.

What did you just say, Mother?

You mean you're the one who set fire to Consort Choi's house?

Mother!

I did it for Her Highness.

I wanted to get rid of Consort Choi before she could return to the Palace with her son.

Do you know what times we are living in now?

We should be laying low.

How could you do this without consulting me?

I didn't know things would turn out this way.

I didn't know the fire would give her a reason to return to the Palace.

I didn't know!

Her Highness is anxious about the Crown Prince as it is.

But if she finds out about this, it'll be disaster.

Hee-Jae, that's not all.

What do you mean that's not all?

The shaman said it wouldn't just be me.

What?

She said there would be bloodshed in the Palace.

She said it would be within Ok-Jeong's Palace.

What?

Wretched woman! Where are you?

I've come to pull out your tongue.

Wretch!

Was it you? You who babbled about bloodshed?

Put away your sword, My Lord. You are on divine ground.

Be quiet, witch!

I will make you pay for speaking carelessly.

The Queen knows everything, My Lord.

- What? - Isn't that what you wanted to know?

What are you talking about?

It is not wise to be about at this hour. You should have chosen smarter men.

What... what do you mean?

Speak! I asked you a question.

It's the girl!

- Seize her! - Yes, sir!

What did you say? Something has gone wrong?

- Brother! - Your Highness...

I've come to see Her Majesty. Announce my arrival.

They disguised someone as the nurse and captured your men?

- The Queen did this? - Your Highness...

So it was the Queen who had the nurse.

She knew everything. She knew and...

She waited for the evidence to fall into her hands.

The time has come, Consort Choi.

It's time to tell you what I know.

Your Majesty...

But before that,

There is something I must hear from you.

I want an answer to my question.

If... if something happens and the Crown Prince cannot ascend to the throne,

Will you be able to put Prince Yeon Ing on the throne?

Your Majesty!

Why do you speak of such things? That is...

The Palace will soon be swept up in a scandal never before experienced.

It will be about changing the Crown Prince.

Your Majesty, what did you just say?

Change the Crown Prince...?

That's right.

And if that happens,

Prince Yeon Ing will be considered a candidate.

And if in the end,

He is not able to become the Crown Prince,

He will not able to survive.

Because that is politics, and that is how it is in the Palace.

I know full well just how much danger this will put you and Prince Yeon Ing in.

That is why I suffered more.

So can you promise me something?

That you'll survive.

Promise me that no matter what happens,

You and Prince Yeon Ing will both survive and he will become King.

Your Majesty...!

The Palace will soon be swept up in a scandal never before experienced.

It will be about changing the Crown Prince.

- Let's go and see Consort Hui. - Yes, Your Majesty.

I'm sure you want to hear what I have to say.

Tell me! What must we do?

You told my mother that there was a way out for us.

It is the Queen, My Lord.

What?

The Queen has the power to kill or save both you and Consort Hui.

What do you mean? The Queen can save us?

Speak!

I have your brother's men, Consort Hui.

They have confessed why they were looking for the nurse,

...and what you were trying so hard to hide.

They've confessed to everything.

Are you threatening me, Your Majesty?

- With this little item? - Not at all.

I'm not threatening you. I'm giving you an opportunity.

You will tell the truth to His Majesty...

...and do as he decides.

I am doing this not because of you, but because of the Crown Prince.

It is in consideration of the shock and suffering he will face...

...when his condition is revealed by someone else.

- I will not wait long, so... - No.

- I can't do it. I won't! - Consort Hui!

You want to reveal the truth? What truth?

Using that name tag and a nurse?

- You have nothing! - That's enough, Consort Hui.

When will you stop committing crimes?

When will you stop fooling His Majesty...

Your Majesty, I'm not the one committing crimes.

Do you realize that questioning the Crown Prince's position...

...is considered High Treason?

Consort Hui.

There is only one Crown Prince in the nation.

Only the Crown Prince will become King.

- And that fact will never change! - No, that is not so.

It can change.

What?

If you continue to hide the truth and lie to His Majesty...

- Enough! That's enough! - You're doing wrong as his mother too.

Don't you understand?

You are his mother, but as Crown Prince, he is also my son.

That is why I cannot hide the truth any further.

You have lied to His Majesty, the Crown Prince,

...and the people of our nation!

So heed my words.

I will not wait long.

Your Majesty...!

- Let's go. - Yes, Your Majesty.

- Wasn't that Her Majesty? - It looked like her.

What was the Queen doing at Consort Hui's residence at this hour?

- Your Highness... - We... we must get rid of the Queen.

We must get rid of her!

Your Highness!

You mean we have to get rid of her if we want to live?

Yes, that's right, My Lord.

- Your Highness! - Chun Soo!

What did you just say?

Prince Yeon Ing may be embroiled in a scandal?

There seems to be a major problem with the Crown Prince, Chun Soo.

Her Majesty seems to think that Prince Yeon Ing may have to replace him.

I am so scared, Chun Soo.

If this is known, his life may be in danger.

- Your Highness... - I'm going to protect him.

No matter what happens, I have to keep him alive.

You must help me confirm what Her Majesty said,

...and see what Consort Hui is up to.

Yes, Your Highness.

I must see Prince Yeon Ing. Where is he?

Your Highness!

What? Her Majesty went to see Consort Hui last night?

Yes, that is what Lady Yu told me.

It's strange that she went at that hour,

And her expression was said to be extremely troubled.

Your Highness.

Did Her Majesty go to see Consort Hui last night?

Yes, she spoke to her.

- Let Her Majesty know that I am here. - Yes, Your Highness.

Your Majesty, Consort Choi is here to see you.

Your Majesty, Consort Choi is here to see you.

Your Majesty!

Your Majesty, it is Consort Choi. I am coming in.

Your Majesty!

Your Majesty..!

Your Majesty!

- She's unconscious! - Call the physician! Hurry!

Your Majesty! Please open your eyes!

Your Majesty!
