The pitch is a system or a convention

that exists so that the filmmakers,
scriptwriters, can tell

our projects
to the people who make the decisions.

The truth, it's awful
pit one's project,

because there's a lot at stake and one does not know

on another person who, at that moment,

and make your dreams come true or not.

from someone who has a hard time

speaking in public and who worked a lot

What is the pitch? It's a sales technique
for audiovisual projects,

that unfortunately exists,
because I have a hard time pitching,

but it's something that works
in the audiovisual industry,

is to verbally tell the project.

One has to, apparently,
be able to verbally tell

the project to a person who takes
the decision to take it forward or not,

as it could be
a producer or a producer

or someone who can consider
the project for its realization.

Not only is it enough to send the folder,
not only reaches the work we did,

but there are markets
and there are situations

in which one can pit a project
and so be accepted or rejected.

Let's see some things.

I present
to Marian Sánchez Carniglia,

who was my coach in the pitch.

I was afraid to speak in public.

I could not come up with an idea,
because it made me very nervous.

had a kind of stage fright
that made my voice tremble always

and my heart was beating very hard.

Facing this difficulty I had,
I tell them I was quite severe,

it helped me a lot to take confidence
and believe me if I was able

to pit projects or talk
in public, anyone can do it.

What Marian did was tell me
the rule of five W.

Marian worked in the United States,
knows perfectly the market

and the way to sell projects
they have there ,

not because we want to sell
the project in the United States,

but this convention
exists in all markets.

What are these five W's about?

It has to do with the W
of the questions "why", "what", etc.

The first one would be Why? Why?

Why do we want to do this project?

One would think we should
start with What? o What?

but in reality, what is advised
is to start by narrating

what it is that pulls you
to you as a character,

as a creator, as an artist,
to tell this story.

And that's where the identification
we talked about before works.

Then one should
really be honest

and tell why one wants
carry out this project.

Then develop the idea
and tell what you want to do.

It would be the What, one would briefly say
the idea, the synopsis and the character.

Look for other pitch tools.

One, in these cases,
should not improvise at all.

One should absolutely know
from memory the pitch

even if it lasts five minutes,
each word is superimportant.

What's next is Where? Where?

Where does this story go?
How is that universe?

We can already develop a little more
about that idea we have of the world.

Then maybe at this moment
we can show some of the images

that we have, like to help
our interlocutor

to imagine that world
as we imagine it.

And then we go to the When?
When will the project be carried out?

And in what instance
of development is it?

Many times, in feature films, there is a style

that there are two people pitching,
at least, or three.

In feature film is the person
who makes the script,

who does the address
and who does the production

and everyone talks about something.

Why do I say this?

In general, point four
says the production person,

one as director or screenwriter
can also say it,

but in point four,
is counted when will perform,

or in what instance
of development we are.

Then it says
"we have, for now, the folder

and we are applying
to such a fund, to such a fund

and we have a contact with such a channel
that is interested in a meeting".

Usually, do not exaggerate,
have to be very honest.

You do not have to lie at all

and at this point you start to talk

about more specific issues
of the development status of the project.

And finally, who are we?

So, there somehow,
one should briefly talk about one

and count,
as we saw also in the folder,

why are we the best people
to carry forward this project.

I leave you with enough embarrassment
because I was absolutely nervous

and I was not only nervous,

but I was told that I would have
as a memory aid

on the computer
I was on the lectern

and I was going to be able to see
my notes in the presentation

and two minutes before going up, the person
charge told me that it was not possible.

So, although I knew it by heart
and had practiced it a lot,

had a whole cinema
of people, of investors

and of people who dedicate themselves to the universe
audiovisual, they were prepared

to watch pitch of different series
and the truth is that it could not fail.

You will see it.

draw their own conclusions,

but I tell you that it was
a painful experience.

After doing this, I got sick
and stayed two or three days in bed,

in London, without visiting any place.

But I can assure you
that after passing that test,

I am not the same and beyond
of shame or exposure

or fear
that one can get to have,

I'm convinced that one has
to go looking for the tools

to go through those thresholds.

In my case, I had a pitch coach,
but in other cases they can use

to whatever they can, whatever they want,

there are people who take a drink
of whiskey, There are people who meditate.

Find your own springs,
maybe someone will do it for you,

if you really feel it's impossible,

but I think in this whole process,

since you started with the idea
until they reached the pitch,

should not be the same,
should be someone else

and that will work very well,

because they will feed back
with their own projects.

Well, we already know
how to tell our project.

Now we just need to get money.
