of the Battle of Waterloo, as Napoleon's cannons

bombarded his troops.

Russian artillery fire now accounts for about
80% of Ukraine's losses.

The numbers are undoubtedly similar in the
opposite camp, percentage-wise.

So whoever wins this artillery fight is likely
to win the war.

And Ukraine has high hopes for the modern
weapons and ammunition it receives from its

Western backers.

France has decided to increase the number
of artillery in the Ukrainian army and deliver

a new batch of 155 mm guns.

This time it will not be self-propelled Caesar
howitzers, but self-propelled TRF1 guns.

The French press reports about it citing the
Ministry of Defense of the republic.

The French 155 mm TRF1 howitzer was produced
by the GIAT company from 1984 to 1993.

It is capable of moving independently at a
speed of 8 km/h and has a semi-automatic charging

system.

The gun was first unveiled at the 1979 Satory
Armory Show.

It replaced the 155mm Modele 50 howitzer in
the French army.

Ammunition was transported and supplied by
a Renault TRM 10000 truck.

In addition to an artillery crew of 7, the
vehicle could hold 48 rounds.

The TRF1 howitzer has a range of 24 km with
conventional shells and 30 km with reactive

shells.

It is claimed that the howitzer has a rate
of fire of 6 rounds per minute.

France has chosen CAESAR self-propelled artillery
units to replace the TRF1.

According to open sources, 105 TRF1 howitzers
were supplied to the French army.

As of 2016, 12 TRF1 howitzers were still in
service, while the rest had been withdrawn

for storage.

Like any arms sale, the deal made by S2M Equipment
was approved by the French government through

an inter-ministerial commission to study the
export of military equipment.
