personally don't think there's nothing

out there unless i see it or feel it or

hello and welcome to this exclusive live

paranormal investigation what's in store

for us tonight as we go on a journey at

a secret location in deepest essex will

we encounter the mysterious sounds the

lingering shadows and the ghostly

apparitions that have all been reported

here

welcome to this railway museum in essex

this museum is situated in deepest essex

once a fully functioning railway and now

cut off from the main line it used to

serve the rural coastal villages and

ferried cockles to london

scene of a tragic accident in 1959 that

saw its eventual closure in 1961 by

beaching the railway survived only as a

museum and has been added to from other

abandoned locations all over the country

trains signs signals and memorabilia

fill the large museum shed

but silent as it is now the museum and

its tracks have encountered strange and

sometimes sinister paranormal events

that cannot be explained from moans and

cries in the dark to full size

apparitions of its former employees

this is the second station which is

about half a mile from the main platform

it was moved here from another abandoned

location it's been a scene of many

spectral appearances and a very strange

story indeed in 1919 a four-year-old boy

jonathan bastille was traveling with his

father who was on a business trip when

he was killed in a freak accident

screams of terror are still heard

supposedly it's the small boy who

mysteriously fell under the carriage of

a train as it moved off from the

platform

i think you can stop the hype myself up

kind of yeah yeah that's the thing your

mind is going to play games

i just think that my mind will scare me

that's the thing yeah i don't mean

because i i i do i do believe in it

but i've not i don't have never really

experienced anything now but i'm more

like doing it to test myself like i'm

you know like when you watch a horror

film i'm like oh yeah i'll watch it and

then i absolutely petrified and i'm like

why am i doing this to myself i think

this is another one of these things

where i'm like i think i'll be all right

but i'm scared i'm going to get that bit

i can't do it

i just watch horror films

but quite the most terrifying story to

ever haunt this place was that of former

station master richard temple at 22

years of age he was the youngest station

master ever to get to that rank anywhere

in the country he was pretty daunting in

his appearance he stood more than seven

feet tall apparently he could carry ten

heavy mailbags all at once and he was

also known as a very good amateur

wrestling champion

it was later revealed that the

maintenance reports produced by the

management on those points have been

tampered with and therefore the accident

wasn't the fault of the station master

but of the management itself

too late for richard temple of course

he'd already disappeared and he was

never seen again many people think he

took his own life

well the station itself was shut down

just two years later in the infamous

beaching cull and was later turned into

a museum what goes on here the

paranormal sightings and the sounds well

many people think it's richard temple

and his restless spirit

see that felt scared of me and i was

like blocking my ears blocking my eyes

like the reason i'm doing this actually

like is because um

my grandma died a couple of weeks ago

and then like and just a few days after

her funeral i was just like um i was

just watching tv i was in the house on

my own and like i had such a strong

feeling of her just like being yeah in

the room it was just just

so weird yeah the weirdest things ever

happened to me i was just like it felt

like she was there yeah so did you see

it like no i didn't i didn't see it

i don't know i don't know if it was like

like what she smelled like or it just

felt like she was there

our medium for tonight is john paul

gates who'll be giving us his insight

into the night's proceedings along with

john we also welcome laura pierce our

historian laura is local to the area and

will be looking into the history of the

stories we pick up on tonight

john tell me while i'm putting my coat

what sort of first impressions are you

getting at this place

well as you know for me it's all about

the people i try and dispel all the

myths and superstition legends but i

have to say that the first step i uh

was on the platform i got this really

negative energy

can't quite describe it at this moment

but it's definitely residual energy as

opposed to active spirits but obviously

it's it's making me feel a little bit

apprehensive excited but apprehensive as

well as a journalist my first thought to

ask you is should we be afraid should we

be fearful of this um

i i think we should get to the next

location have a look at and do a video

there and then maybe see what uh what

manifest itself you know and then go

from there really to be honest but you

don't really want to commit at this

stage but you think

something happened here

and and when you go to places normally

you can pick up straight away on

something and because you've picked up

on this straight away yes yeah i mean i

mean i must admit i'm i'm drawn i'm

getting drawn to behind you at the

moment and i

in fact

taste of sulfur

like a burning kind of smell

and i i just feel that

so you're concentrating on

what's your reaction to what john's just

said it's interesting you pick up on

that i mean i've been looking into a lot

of the stories some of which are here

saying some of which are based on actual

events that happened and there's a whole

wealth of

situations and happenings that have

happened and people have heard all sorts

of sounds and there have even been some

sightings so that's really interesting

on this platform you've already picked

up on that

and also i also i feel that

i i've got a number of energies here as

well we're not talking about two or

three we're perhaps talking about 20 or

30.

all saying

he's he's saying to me that's right

that's my spirit that's my spirit guide

okay i will communicate with you i

believe that

uh frank uh was a roman soldier and i i

was he's lackey many moons ago because

that was in my past life anyway we'll go

what i find is that you know frank's

telling me that there's like 20 or 30

you know uh

people here that i

i don't know the date

but it it's quite a some time ago

probably

40 50 years ago

whether this is that is that your face

is that your period laura i mean yeah i

mean this this happening it's all

through the first half of the century

but um something quite particular

happened here then yeah right right and

i i just find that all these these

people were thrown from place one place

to another

in a confined space thrown right i get

that impression that's very very in line

with question of saturation right right

very sinister

and i also i also

so

i'm seeing this this man

who's looking afar

and

he appears as though he's got a smirk on

his face

just hanging around

yeah it's okay frank tell me it doesn't

matter how bad it is tell me

he's saying that

this gentleman's wearing a kind of a

uniform

right but not but not a

but not a military uniform more of a

uh

standard almost like a postman right see

laura's getting a few goosebumps going

down

at this point yeah okay

um

and this

this person

i think we should be very wary of

very wary okay

that's all i really want to say this

should we proceed to the next part of

ours

now john this is an interesting area of

the investigation because we're shut off

we're well away from the the main

platform and and the station so

any developments here as far as you're

concerned now

yeah to be honest i'm picking up

two energies um

one interestingly enough is

goes back to the platform where i picked

up that gentleman

and he's not as strong here what seems

to be strong here is

um a smaller energy um smaller you mean

a child

possibly yes yes um

i'm seeing some saying yes a child

no more than

maybe five or six and and

he appears to be lost he can't get out

he wants to he wants to crawl

i don't know i just think that like

unless i see something like with my own

eyes and i can actually blink and it

will still be there because i don't

believe that everything's just going to

flash in front of me i don't believe

like you know when you see these people

like i just saw a glimmer of something

and then it went like why would if there

was such things yeah but that could be

like

i remember years and years ago when i

was at school someone saw this saw a

ghost he's trying to find something he's

he's he's almost crawling around trying

to pick up something this is

extraordinary because that's exactly

what it is he fell he was trying to get

to toy train from underneath the train

he was on and he fell and he was on the

track right and couldn't get up and he

couldn't find his dad and then the train

the train pulled off and and crushed him

yeah

something really weird happened with her

like she she's doing at her sister's

house and um like nothing was happening

you know she was just like she was

pushing it around for some fun so the

sister was like is there anyone there

and my grandma like pushed it to yes as

if you know the ghost was pushing it um

and then she said her sister said what's

what's your name and my grandma just

like picked a name out of thin air and

spelt out marie yeah and it turned out

that marie was the gut was the woman who

lived in the house before them and she'd

hung herself in the house

so she just you know got his name up

nowhere my mom is from south america and

they're really quite suspicious out

there she's told me loads of horror

stories about the ouija board she's

always said don't you ever ever ever do

it yeah and she told me some stories but

i i think with hindsight when i was

younger she told me when i was younger

that she was just saying that scare me

he's telling me that

there's this old well not an old lady

actually a young lady and she's got

permed hair and it's almost coffeeed in

the positions coffee almost like you

know the french way of you know doing a

that's really specific yeah absolutely

absolutely and

it just

she's having a cup of tea right yeah

she's a bit apprehensive right as she's

you know taking the cup to her mouth

right and drinking right

and

a knock at the door

right okay

it doesn't matter frank just tell me

what you see

right she's getting a note it's in her

note and the note says

it says we regret to inform you

that your husband was

killed in action today

yeah i'm not scared yet which is weird

i just i have no idea where it what to

we've had some success with you sort of

detecting things up to now what do you

feel in here anything at all

well to be honest with you uh i don't

pick up a great deal i mean a little bit

of residual energy but um no astra

beings or spirits i mean i'm quite

looking forward to get back to the

platform because i felt a really eerie

presence there and particularly at night

i think something will definitely

manifest itself tonight oh it doesn't

mean of course that something won't be

felt in here because we're we're having

a lone vigil in this tube later on this

evening

imagine you're just going to feel like

you're literally underground i guess um

lights down and everything it's going to

be quite probably intimidating

not hearing anything i love it

the real enthusiasm it's just fantastic

with

signs and signals and goodness that's

what

you're looking a bit perturbed

yes i'm getting a very

eerie feeling here you remember the

feeling i got at the platform when we

got off the train yeah it's stronger

here very strongly i like that though

scared

clear now he's an enormous man really

big big hands really thick set he's

almost like almost like a restaurant

as i say it could be a postman

i don't know and

he's saying he's saying he didn't do it

oh you've got an absolutely

and he's he's saying

and you're gonna be scared i don't make

him i don't know i can't see it i can't

yeah you never think when you're

of light

uh white light bodies screams

it has to be the story of the younger

nation master yeah there's just too many

similarities and he was um

he was wrongly accused of rigging this

train to derail and um and he's never

been seen since so this

i'm i'm convinced that you're talking

about the same same story yeah yeah

more realistic idea that's there we

could still be scared and it not have

anything to do with guys like if i'm in

a dark place and then i can't see

anything around me i'm going to be

scared not because there might be a

close picture because i feel a bit yeah

you don't really know

it doesn't mean there's anything

mysterious or ghostly it's just not

something we don't know about yeah

world i live in august yeah

i live in london but i was around close

anyways and i live like in north london

oh okay where abouts in essex did it uh

well

it's quite embarrassing where you picked

us up from

that has got a scary place hasn't it

because it's got the church that was

filmed in the omen the film

yeah yeah in the universe

cathedral really bleak looking

maybe we're going somewhere like that

maybe yeah it's a big old building and

like it's looks scary but i've

thrown down a million more times and

i've never experienced nothing

so yeah but i just i just can't i'll

just refuse right

people would never see cavemen do they

they never see like

like

dinosaurs and things like that they just

never see like it's never in the light

either it's always in the dark it's like

why would a ghost just come out in the

dark right and why is not everyone

has anything ever been caught directly

on camera there's never been nothing

there ever there has been something on

camera

but you can't say is it this or this is

that yeah that's one of it but i guess

it is

inclined to believe it you'll go oh

maybe it could be this but if you don't

believe you can go with this yeah it's

just again it's all it's like it's like

there was a really famous picture of the

loch ness monster people were like no

this is absolutely a piece of this is

absolutely true this is absolutely not

this photo hasn't been hosted on and

eventually before there was two brothers

i think and before they died they

admitted they'd hoaxed it all yeah yeah

and i was on the most famous of it

sticking his head out a piece of wood or

something like that

but most experts like no this is

absolutely true

yeah

like the ripples when it went like when

there's like a boat going along that

there's the ripples behind the boat and

i said oh it's like the humps

yeah because people can allow themselves

to believe something and change it i

think it's like what it is it is nice to

believe in stuff

i like to think that you know

people are still

well because my mom's obviously been

believing she's strong towards strong

catholics yeah so sort of brought up the

start and that's all the ouija board

i've told her everything i just said are

sort of like most haunted or something

because she likes watching all that

stuff

she's happy and she's pleased that i'm

thinks i should have brought something

with me to make sure nothing's gonna

follow me back and go in the house and

haunt the house oh my god like hold my

house on things i'm like

no you're meant

obviously i think you've been dreaming

or i don't know it's such a weird

feeling though like it's my sister she

thinks she's something as well i'm like

yeah my whole family literally i'm like

i've got a very big family there's like

probably me and like couple other

cousins like

like

in your mind it's unbelievable you can

project images just by thinking about

them like i just i've really

i think that sometimes you really want

as you said like you want to feel

comfort and stuff like that and you can

actually see things like i think that

your mind is powerful enough to be able

to create things that's why i'm not

awake

i wouldn't just believe something

because i want to i don't feel like i

know if you did see something would you

think it was your mind or would you

trust yourself no i think that i i

actually because i couldn't i feel like

i guess honestly

if i see something then i will look it

up and i won't like if you say that

everybody look right now if i want to

poke it now i'm like i'm running too

curious i'll be like why are you

i want to poke it and see if it's real

no we're not

oh my god like you have to believe me

that i saw something i'll just take it

as like oh it might have been something

or like i won't i don't think i'll kind

of preach it yeah

i think for all of us if we did the

ouija board and i said that if they told

us something that no one else none of

you know obviously we don't know each

other

but like if they said something that no

one else could know yeah then i'd

believe that

yeah has it not been found yet

oh my god i'm hoping it's me because

they say i've got a sweet steak at work

and i haven't been in for a couple of

weeks and i don't know if the other

that's another thing that mum's going on

about possession yeah possession are you

gonna get possessing like i've just got

my hands right

really my friends we're throwing holy

fears it doesn't actually mean this

because you believe in ghosts or because

you're scared of guys

when someone says to you it's haunted

here you automatically maybe

just go into a house you don't think

what happened to the to the station

master because he was convicted yeah

he'd been um he was basically there were

faults at faults on the line and they'd

been putting through sort of false

maintenance reports but they thought

that they suspected him of foul play and

um when he was in court his wife

testified against him because well

basically she was having an affair and

her lover was on the train so she

assumed that he was trying to um to kill

him and um so he was convicted but he

escaped right

and and they never found him did they

yeah he escaped um court and ran away

and they looked for him and couldn't

find him and they just they assumed

you're taking his own life what what are

you picking up simon our cameraman what

it was at this point that we decided to

take a break and wait for the sun to set

what more surprises lie in store for us

spirits

is just communicate with her try and get

her energy around us because the spirits

will try and communicate with us in

aware there's something here because it

happened earlier on and uh

i think what we should do now is

haven't into sort of new ground virgin

territory so i think for me

it's more

with your own eyes with my own eyes in a

way and to te i think i quite like to

test

myself and see

kind of how

much i can do and what scares me and

what doesn't and stuff like that yeah so

i think that's what intrigued me

um i'm just i don't really believe in

anything i just

she enjoys scaring us i enjoy scaring

the thing is if there was something that

i could see

i won't just believe if i can feel

something or i feel like weird i won't

believe that i want to see something

to make me believe it and if i don't see

it then i'll have you know be fun and

stuff but what we were saying like we

were saying in the car earlier that

wasn't me that it's one of these things

that it's unless you experience it

yourself you will never quite believe it

so

not saying you're a liar but it's the

case if you always hear a friend this

happened to a friend or someone you know

someone yeah and i've said something

go ahead a lot of stories that are the

same yeah that do make it i find it very

hard not to believe it like that's right

and i'm talking earlier there's been a

lot of sightings of the same thing here

for example but until you want to see it

or experience it don't you because it's

one thing to say obviously

yeah or not no exactly i don't know i'm

sure

yeah but i think it's when people tell

them that i always find that quite hard

not to believe people tell the same

story yeah no way of knowing each other

meeting each other and that's yeah what

we found a lot when you're such a hero

my personal feeling and i'm skeptical

is that i think you do you have to be

religious to believe something's going

to happen i don't know how you answer it

oh right okay

my feeling is that's my feeling that

you'd have to be but you said you had

this experience and you're not religious

i just think it's that thing of like

when you shut your eyes and then all of

a sudden the rest of your senses become

heightened it's like giving you that

chance to breathe yeah and like take

stuff in i think there's something in it

that spirits

um you know especially things like being

visited by around here only make

themselves appear in any way even if

it's a feeling or a sense if they feel

that you are

open to receiving it yeah

i really missed it because i think i

found people who have had that

experience of people who are quite

spiritually open not so religious but

spiritually you know yeah i guess so

we were talking to freddie in the car

and you're saying oh there's no proof in

this but then you think

well why would they want to show

themselves maybe there's a reason why

it's hidden like maybe

there's i don't know some rule in the

spirit world where you

you only show to people who need you and

yeah so yeah they've not appeared in

photographs but they're probably like

higher than that they don't need that

kind of it's so beyond us yeah like yeah

it's not like

they won't appear in your little nikon

camera

does anyone else experience anything

something like 20 years ago i i just

remember once

feeling almost like somebody put a hand

on my head i said i'm skeptical yeah i'm

the one that doesn't believe in any of

this but yes i did think that somebody

and i can't even remember what situation

i was in at the time there's definitely

nobody there yeah

yeah

and you you think is somebody playing a

joke on me that's what you think

automatically the thing is it's anything

you rationalize everything generally

don't you is it the same way like not

everything

yeah but like in my house i'm fine it's

been in my house home alone in the dark

because i know my house but if someone

went to me your house was haunted every

noise you'd go what is that what is this

so yeah i guess

i'm just coming to a place that we know

that is haunted you're automatically

kind of more susceptible to finding

something yeah it doesn't necessarily

mean that it's true it just means that

you're

kind of looking in a weird way for

something and everything will be related

to but i think dealing with it logically

almost i don't know like we try and

rationalize and logicalize yeah but i

think

as you were just saying it must be in a

completely rule book yeah like i don't

think you can spit like if you're

talking about gold or anything like that

it doesn't we can't make it if you

humanize it i don't think it makes yeah

means it's not very logical yeah it's

strange i guess you can't find excuses

for anything really yeah yeah if you

think about it

so from a history point of view i mean

you've researched stuff around here yeah

and i suppose it has changed a bit how i

felt a bit because i've only had

experiences of things like my

grandfather are feeling his energy i

don't know anything like touching or

anything like that but

um but my grandparents and my parents

were living around here and i've heard

so many stories over the years about

around here and so i started to read up

on them and

it comes back to that thing about

hearing the same story so many different

times and it's

things there's been a lot of of quite

you know tragic accidents and things

that have happened on this line um over

i mean the whole century yeah stuff as

far back as the early 1900s and

and people have had

sort of i don't know supernatural

experiences that tie in with those

factual historical stories that actually

happened you know and you

that you know have happened because

their families are still around here and

um

and i just think it's too much criticism

i mean earlier we were talking about um

uh john was getting a feeling and some

of the stuff he was describing tied in

precisely with one of the stories and

yeah i mean i've never met him and i

suppose i know he knows nothing about

around here no you know no no um some of

them so it does make something else i

don't know it makes it i know it's hard

not to think i mean we kept using the

word spooky didn't we which was sort of

a bit 21st century

but i kept saying that when they said oh

there's this time anything i was like oh

it's spooky yeah because it yeah it's

time for the lots of my research

yeah yeah because i guess that's my i've

looked into it like that when people

have told you it's because

i try and track it and see yeah okay is

there anything in there yeah um or is it

just someone making stuff up yeah i have

to say more often than not there has

been yeah

what was it here are we not allowed to

know

what in this spot yeah or just generally

well the

so you must be more freaked out than us

at the moment

if something happens i feel quite in

control about it because there's

something you've studied you know you've

like yeah

if something actually happens like a

different story yeah

but um yeah there are a couple of really

like really sad stories of things where

people have died on the line in this one

one story i don't know i don't know what

to tell these stories but of one of a

little boy who um

died on the further down the platform he

fell onto the train when it was

stationary and then when it pulled out

he was crushed and on the train this is

this is ages again like 1919

is that right 1990 i think yeah and um

he

people have heard

little boy screams and shrieks and have

images of

them being trapped yeah

you know god i know i'm poisonous

anymore that's that's enough but that's

you know you just think when i heard

someone stop telling that image yeah i

thought that's exactly that story yeah

we all hear a noise what do we do we'll
