All language subtitles for 25. Motion tracking

So we are reaching the end of the course now.

Now there was one particular area for Mora that I wanted to leave until right at the end.

And that would be the motion tracking feature within for Mora.

And the reason why I wanted to sort of just leave this to last is because it's not that good.

I'll be honest with you, it's really shaky.

And if you haven't got the perfect footage, then the motion tracker will struggle to track.

So I've got an example here of what motion tracking is.

So I've actually use key frames to do this particular motion tracking, which is something we'll will

do first.

And you've probably already know how to do this because we've already covered key frames, but basically

you would.

But basically, you'd have your text.

You can also use images and other videos if you want, but in this case, you can't use text.

You can have text.

Follow some type of subjects within your video.

Some scrubbing along like this.

And as you can see, we have this text following this lady.

And it's also shrinking down as in size as she gets further along this path.

So that's pretty good.

Now the thing is, with this motion tracking, even when I use key frames, which is a better option

to use rather than the motion tracking feature itself is that the text is actually shaky.

You can see the text is shaky here, and I've already tried rendering the clip to see if it makes a

difference.

But it doesn't actually make a difference.

In fact, let me try this just in case.

Let me just set this to fool that I have a feeling or probably still to stay the same.

Yeah, the text is still shaky.

So that's the thing with motion tracking now, and all in all honesty, when it comes to motion tracking,

it is relatively advanced.

And Phil Mora is an entry level to semi advanced video editing software.

So to be honest with you, does it belong in Phil Mora?

I suppose it does.

But like I said, the the video needs to be perfect in a way to avoid the shaking.

And I've noticed that when you just add very simple motion tracking where the text just moved from left

to right or right to left it up and down and you don't bring in scale into it, then it seems to work

much more smoothly.

But when you start to do more advanced motion tracking, like what I've what I've done here, just with

the key frames themselves, then the tech starts to shake and it starts to struggle a little bit.

But anyway, that's my opinion of it.

What I'll do now is I will show you how to apply motion tracking using key frames.

And as you can see, we've only used two key frames here, and then I'll show you how to use the motion

tracking feature itself.

So anyway, I'm just going to click OK on this and I'm going to delete this here so I can start again.

So that would just be the title.

And of course, if you want to follow along, you can get this downloadable resource from the film or

a project.

So just come to media and come to import and then click on Import Media folder.

And come down to the Fillmore project, click on motion tracking and then click OK, and you should

end up with these four clips here, and you can choose any clip that you want.

But for this example, I'm just going to stick with this lady in the field.

So first of all, I'm going to come to my title and I'm just going to use the default title, which

is one of the more simple titles.

And you will find if you start to use some of these more complex titles it does.

It does become a little bit more jittery, a little bit more shaky and just a little bit more hard to

manage.

Okay, so what I'll do now is I will just click and drag and pull this out for the whole duration of

my video clip.

And straightaway I'm going to click on the title and I'm going to resize it to the size I initially

want.

So let's go for something like that.

And I'm going to double click in this.

I'll type something sentimental and now.

While this is already available here because I used it just a moment ago.

So what I'm going to do is I'm just going to click Reset and click OK.

Remember to add key frames you right click on the clip or in this case, the title comes animation,

then click on Add Animation and I'm going to add a key frame.

And a way to scrub along all the way to the end.

I didn't want that, that's assuming in and out, I'll get the timeline indicator and I'll come all

the way to the end of the clip.

So somewhere here and I'm going to add a keyframe.

And I'm going to shrink down the text and I'm going to just position it using these settings here.

I don't want it too high as to be right up there, and we're all done.

So now if I scrub through this example here, you can see the text is following the lady, which is

exactly what I want.

So that's pretty good.

Now it is a little bit temperamental.

Once you do this, you shouldn't move the key frames around or anything like that.

You should just leave it as it is.

So yeah, that's just a top tip.

OK, so we'll move on to the actual motion tracker now, so I'll just click OK, and what I'm going

to do is I'm going to just delete this text to start again and I'll bring in the default title.

Drag it out for the full duration of the clip.

And now what we need to do is we need to apply the motion tracker to the clip itself, so not the text

will be sinking the text in a moment.

In fact, just before we get started, I think it would be a good idea just to to shrink this down to

the to the the size I want.

I'm not going to bother putting in a message this time.

So what you need to do is you need to click on the clip itself now.

One thing to be aware of is where your timeline indicator is, if I put it here at around 13 second

mark.

This is where the motion tracker will take effect.

So you need to be aware of where the time line indicator is.

So I want this to take effect right from the beginning.

So right there and what you need to do is double click on the clip.

Then come to motion tracking and check this box and you'll end up with this tool here and we need to

as you need to just move it around and resize it how you wish.

Now, with regard to tracking this lady, I've only practiced this because sometimes there's a bit of

trial and error that needs to take place until you get it to work properly.

When I did this early, I found that the best place to track on this lady was actually her hat and her

and her hair.

I thought maybe the orange dress would make a big difference, but yeah, this just worked out the best.

So once this is done, you can now click Start Track and will analyze the clip.

And as you can see, as it's tracking, it's already moving to the left a little bit and kind of starting

to lose focus on the lady.

So like I said, it's not really the best.

But I will say this is a bit of a complex clip for it to do.

OK, so that's done now.

What we can do is we can come back to the beginning of the the video.

And.

We will have this drop down now, if you've lost this man, you just remember to double click on the

the clip itself.

Come to motion tracking here, click on the dropdown, then come to this dropdown and then click on

default title.

Now you can see how it's kind of just jumped over to the right and notes it's like in the wrong position

now.

The thing is, I can click on this here on the title itself, and I can move it to the movie, to the

to the left, and it's really jump in it.

It doesn't like what I'm doing, and that's the thing with this.

And you can see I have just moved and is jumping all over the place now, and it's shaking a lot.

And this is just the problem with it, to be honest with you, I.

What can you do about it, you know?

And I don't know why this popped up, we don't need it.

Let's just do that one more time.

It's.

OK, so the tracking is already done, I'll double click on the clip itself.

Comeback to motion tracking, and I'll click on default title, and it should I'll click OK.

It's just so temperamental and, you know, maybe somebody if somebody from film or when they watch

me do this, that they they may be able to pinpoint a mistake that I'm making.

But I suppose, you know, it shouldn't be this complex.

And so it's it's one of my few criticisms I have with regard to Phil Morrow.

But you know what?

I'm quite happy just using the key frames because they're just so much smoother and you have a lot more

control over them.

So if you wanted to try and practice more with the motion tracker, then you can go ahead.

What I've shown you is basically how it works.

So that's how it works, and you can get it to work properly, then that would be perfect.

But basically that is motion tracking within Fillmore.
