So, when we had enough dough,
the husband and I bought one.

Ford Fleetwood Jamboree.

We named it Harvey.

And then,
the cosmic punch line.

My husband found out

he did have
a terminal disease

and three months later,
he was dead.

the girls and I must have

put a whoppin' 50 miles
on Harvey's odometer.

have health insurance

and you get
something like cancer,

But, to get treatment,

you have to spend
all the money you have,

prove you are
completely broke,

and then you can be
part of a clinic.

That's really where
medical students practice,

doctors try out
new techniques,

and the hospital picks up

the tab in the name
of research.

Clinics save lives.

They're just
a little messier.

We did not
have health insurance.

So, by the time we had
completed all the tests,

done the surgery,

followed up with the results,
and begun treatment,

a month had passed and every
dollar we had was gone.

Certifiably broke, my husband
