of the Panamanian jungle.

Home to the fer-de-lance,

the most dangerous snake

in all of Central
and South America.

It is here
that nine celebrities

from the worlds of fashion,
sports, television, and music

are about to go far beyond
their comfort zone.

- I feel like we're all
still a little bit terrified

of what's ahead of us.

their families...

their worlds of luxury...

this remote wilderness,

where they will live
and discover how strong

they really are.

and they're freaking me out.

of the greatest defenders

I was a bit skeptical
to go through this adventure,

but my wife and my kids
gave me that extra push

to face my fears
of wild animals.

But right now
all I'm thinking about

is how scared I am
of being in this jungle.

I am Jodie Sweeten.

A lot of people
probably know me

from "Full"
and "Fuller House."

I've never attempted
anything like this.

I am not
an outdoorsy girl.

But I want to come out here
and show myself,

show my daughters,

and show
young women everywhere

that, you know, you can do
things that are hard.

This is crazy.

It's no way I'm gonna
be able to do this.

I want to go home right now,

get my phone,
and call a Uber.

So we got pots
to boil our water in.

I am Craig Morgan.

I am a country-music singer.

But prior to being
an entertainer,

I spent 17 1/2 years
in the service,

10 1/2 years of active duty
in the United States Army.

I was actually stationed
in Panama in 1989

for the ousting
of Manuel Antonio Noriega.

I spent time
in the jungle operations

training course
in Panama,

so I may be an expert
in survival.

[laughs]

So we have some priorities.

There's two, obviously, to a...

And we need to work
on our shelter first

and get a fire going.

Some of you might know me
from the "Bachelor" franchise

and coming out
last year.

angry and upset

when they found out

a hard thing to do.

to fit in a box
your whole entire life."

When I was 15 years old,

layers to me

that I don't think
everybody necessarily knows.

I'm excited to be thrown
into this scenario

that I absolutely know
nothing about

and to show people
that I can be taken seriously.

for 17 years.

Coach Singletary
is one of my childhood heroes.

I watched him as a kid.

Then I was blessed
to have him

come coach me for two years
in Baltimore.

I'm here to make sure
this team stays together,

because together
we walk away

with a substantial
amount of money

for our foundations.

something like this?

in this whole group.

first-generation

college graduate.

I had a really incredible,
strong single mom

that made sure
that, you know,

I was always
on top of it academically,

and at 23 years old,
I started practicing law.

I am so type A.

So, yes, this is way out
of my comfort zone.

by something I can't control,

like a physical injury.

when I used to play
football professionally.

- Each adventure is divided
into three sections--

the first stage, the trek,
and the final stage.

Today's route will traverse
nearly a mile

through jungle,
open water,

and swampy mud bogs.

For the first stage
of this adventure,

you're going to be using
teamwork, brawn,

and a couple of rolling logs

to move a crate that weighs
1/4 of a ton

across this field.

Now, once the crate
touches your post,

you will then open the lid,

remove the paddles, bags,
and puzzle pieces,

and then you'll trek
to your mules.

Once you load the mules
with supplies,

you'll head to the lagoon.

You will paddle out
and collect a scroll

with a puzzle image on it

and then slog your way

through a very deep
and dangerous mud bog

back to your mule.

For the final stage,

you will use the image
you grabbed at the buoy

as a reference to solve
a very large vertical puzzle.

The first team to correctly
assemble the image wins.

What will be up for grabs

is $20,000
to be divided equally

for your charities.

I was slowing my team down

in the mud pit.

I am not a survival expert,

and I'm certainly
nobody's athlete.

What I am is a pretty savvy
critical thinker.

In addition to the image,
that gives them

an advantage on how
the puzzle will fit together.

- Yeah, I already got that.

that goes above the bottom.

The clue was
basically the schematics

of the puzzle.

- Above that, we need
one with a triangle in it.

- It was how
the puzzle pieces lined up,

which was huge
because there was

a very methodical way
that you had to build it

in order for it
to all fit together.

- This is part of it, see?

So we need
whatever goes this way

and whatever goes that way.

I do puzzles for fun
all the time.

I'm about to thrive.

So just hold it there.

- A puzzled look
on the faces of the Blue Team,

as they are befuddled.

not only did we work

- I overestimated
my skill set there,

underestimated
the leadership of Paulina,

I know they're not
smarter than us.

So I knew it had to be
a result of the clue.

- I hate losing.

But sometimes
in my greatest losses,

I've learned
some of my greatest lessons.

God has humbled me here.

It's really like a spa.

There were five little tubs
overlooking the ocean.

We had flower petals in them.

We had soaps and scrubs
and lotions.

- I'm glad we made some money
for each other's charity today.

That's really cool.
- Dude, I'm so proud of us.

- We could have gave up.

- I thought I was gonna
suck at this.

- The puzzle changed
the game for me, literally.

Gave me a confidence boost

to feel like I can have

Last year a police officer

drove me through
the neighborhoods,

and I'm looking
at the disparity.

And I went home--
I flew back home that night,

and I couldn't sleep.

I pray that being out here
will allow me

to bridge that gap
between the haves

and the have-nots.

So we're very excited
about it.

- You really don't know
how good it feels

until you actually get in.

- I brought with me
my grandfather's Bible.

It is really
a spiritual compass for me.

Because I might forget

because this is not
my comfort zone.

they are exceptional,
incredible human beings--

all here to raise
thousands of dollars

for life-changing
organizations.

I cannot hold
these people back.

And what I saw today
makes me extremely scared

that my struggles are going to
potentially hold good people

who are ready
for this adventure back.

- I'm a little bit worried
about tonight,

when it gets pitch-black.

- Yeah, that's gonna be
kind of a make--

make-or-break moment,
like, when it gets dark

and we're by ourselves
and, all of the sudden,

it's like,
"Oh, this is real."

- But just getting through it--

- You feel like
you want to leave?

- I know that this opportunity
is once in a lifetime,

but I'm also very fearful
of the jungle at night.

And even though we won,
I'm still not comfortable,

and I got to look out
for myself.

The nighttime darkness...
- Scares you?

- Yeah, just, like,
not know what's around you.

- I want him to stay.
I think he's a real asset.

Today had I not chosen Metta,
we would have been screwed!

And I couldn't have gotten
the clue.

And I know
that when he shows up,

he's all-in.

You know, none of us
have done this before, right?

- None of us has
done this before.

- So we're all gonna be
a little freaked out together.

I don't think
anybody is prepared

to be in the jungle
at night.

[tense music]

- This place is called
The Lanterns.

And every evening,

all of the celebrities
will join me here.

For some, it may be
their final night

in the jungle,

because if they feel
they can't go on any more,

they'll head back
to the camp,

pick up their things,
and ring the bell.

Their journey will be over,
and they'll head home.

It's their decision
if they want to stay

one more day.

so that makes me feel

a little more comfortable.

your useful skills

here in the jungle?

- I mean, I did grow up
in a communist country,

so I'm well acquainted
with, like,

a loo out in the yard
and no hot water

and, you know,
stuff like that.

- Jodie, how comfortable
are you after your first day?

- I have never been outdoors
like this.

I don't like bugs.
I don't like dirt.

It was hard.

But I have to say,
being out here

has been incredibly liberating.

And there's a freedom out here

that I'm finding
with this team of people

that I really didn't expect.

- Metta, what's going
through your mind?

- I know I can overcome
anything.

- Mm-hmm.
- I truly believe that.

I often don't take help

because I want to just show
people that we can do it.

Especially where we from--
I'm from Queensbridge Projects,

one of the biggest federal
housing projects in America.

So it's not that I don't
believe I can survive.

- Sure.
- But I'm missing my family,

like everyone is--
I'm not saying nobody is.

And I'm not gonna lie to you.

I don't really like
being in the jungle.

I'm definitely very skeptical,
and this is our first night.

- If I hear Metta
one more time

talk about a monkey screaming--

It's not a monkey. It's a dog.

[distant animal chatters]
- There it is!

- Oh!
On cue!

- On cue.
[laughs]

- That was a jungle dog.
[laughter]

- Metta, tell him
to cut it out.

- Eboni, I wanted to get
your sense

of what the vibe
has been like thus far

here in the jungle.

- Frankly, I was
extremely intimidated,

because it almost seemed like

all of these other
eight incredible people

knew what they were doing--
it seemed that way to me.

So I felt very responsible

for our defeat today.

- No way.
- No, wait a minute.

No, no, no, wait.

I'm about to say
how it was on my heart.

Because I erroneously mistook

what I know from that world

and tried to apply it
to this world.

And it's a good lesson
to find out on day one.

I have a lot of insecurities
in this process.

I have not felt
this level of insecurity

probably in 15, 20 years.

- I saw something
in your eye today.

We were in the mud,
and I'm watching her.

I'm watching her chest
breathe so hard,

and she's starting to panic.

And you remember,
I looked at her, I said,

"Look at me.
Give me your hand."

So what I'm telling you is,

you don't never have to be
the strongest link.

You just got to have
somebody that got your back.

- Oh.

- That's it.
That's it.

somebody who didn't necessarily

grow up with the father figure.

And to have every man here

step up with protection
is a big deal for me.

I haven't always felt safe.

I'm not used to
really being able

to trust anybody
but myself, and so...

But something about
the conviction in Ray's voice

when he said it, I was like...
"Well, damn."

And I did.

[sniffles]

- I really relate
to everything she's saying.

My therapist tells me
all the time,

I got to, like, accept help
and love from other people

as much as I'm willing
to give it.

There have been
multiple times today

where I was like,
"I'm gonna cry."

I'm just overwhelmed
with this whole journey.

I'm, like, growing
as a human being.

And it's day one.

- This is just night one.

You know where you're at.

It's going to get hotter.
It's going to get damper.

The jungle citizens might try
to get to know you

a little bit better,
so, everyone, it's that time.

What adventure one told me

was that I might not
leave here

mastering all elements
of these challenges

and adventures,
but there are gonna be places

where I can shine,

and that was
what gave me

enough evidence to conclude

that I can be a value-add
on a team here.

And that is why I'm staying.

- One more day.

in this jungle is charity.

And that's the only reason
that I'm here,

but with that being said,
I don't feel safe,

and I'm hoping
to overcome that feeling.
