This is your retribution!

(Eastern Castle)

(Eastern Castle)

Do you know how many

warriors in Gu City died because of you?

Do you know how many civilians lost their homes because of you?

Let me ask you this.

All these years,

could you sleep in peace

when their ghosts haunt you in your dreams?

I've never tried to harm them.

Ling Buyi, you're still too young.

You do not understand

the pain veterans like us had to endure after conquering the battlefield

together with His Majesty.

Back then,

feudal lords were vying for the throne, and the situation was unclear.

No one could know if His Majesty could rule the world forever.

I just wanted to save up some money

so that I could have enough to retire in peace.

I swapped the military armaments for fake ones

and sold them to other people.

I never expected

everything to go downhill because of this one act.

Ling Buyi,

General Ling,

it wasn't my wish

for Gu City to be taken over.

Lord Yong,

you can tell this to General Huo and soldiers

in person when you arrive at the underworld.

I thought

Huo Chong could hang on until the reinforcements arrived,

but I didn't expect that

no one left for saving them.

It wasn't my own fault

that Gu City was taken over, right?

Don't tell me you want to take the blame

when the reinforcements had forsaken them?

Since His Majesty wishes to pursue responsibility,

why didn't he pursue responsibility

against those who had forsaken them?

Ling Buyi,

judging from His Majesty's personality,

do you think he'll do as you wish

and investigate everything?

Ling Buyi, what do you think?

No matter if His Majesty investigates the matter or not,

you have to die.

This blow

is for General He's and Magistrate Cheng's family.

Ling Buyi, you're out of your mind!

This blow

is for the vengeful spirits of Gu City.

This blow

is for General Huo Chong!

How can you answer to His Majesty

after killing me?

I only

answer to myself.

Tell Official Ji of the Ministry of Justice

that Lord Yong had betrayed the country.

He committed suicide

as he felt guilty for betraying His Majesty.

This...

Official Ji will never believe you.

He will perform an autopsy.

Just do what I tell you.

Yes.

Lord Yong did remind me of something.

Back then, Gu City did send messengers back requesting reinforcements.

However, due to inferior armaments,

the city was taken over in just a few days.

Maybe they had survived the attack.

They might be still alive.

Two of you,

search for them immediately.

Yes.

Young Master, where are you going?

Don't follow me.

Mother,

I've discovered the mastermind

behind the embezzlement of the military armaments,

and I've ended him myself.

Don't worry.

I will never forget about

what they did to the Huo Family.

One day,

I'll find out the truth behind the massacre of Gu City.

I will slay all sinners

one by one.

None of them will escape my wrath.

Blood

will have blood.

You're injured.

Let me treat your wounds.

No!

No, Li.

Li,

you were hemophobic since young.

Did you forget?

You fell unconscious for two hours

when you saw the scratch wound on your arm in the past.

I can do it myself.

I've grown up.

Now, I'm daring enough to slay enemies on the battlefield.

Why would I fear the sight of blood?

No!

You mustn't head to the battlefield!

All those weapons are faulty.

You cannot defeat enemies.

None of them came to rescue us.

None of them!

You mustn't head to the battlefield.

I can do it myself.

You're hemophobic. I can treat my own wounds.

You mustn't head to the battlefield!

You mustn't head to the battlefield!

It's fine now.

Everything is fine now.

I've killed all of those

who were involved with the military armament embezzlement.

As for those who didn't come to aid,

I will find them one by one.

I will avenge all of us.

(Memorial Tablet of Eldest Brother, Huo Chong)

General Ling,

you should confess your fault to His Majesty.

His Majesty is heartbroken

that you're kneeling like this.

General Ling,

please listen to me.

You see, His Majesty is...

How dare you!

Do you know your fault?

Your Majesty.

I was too lenient toward you!

You even dare to kill a criminal whom we haven't put on trial!

You've deceived your emperor!

Tell me! How should I handle this?

Your Majesty, please be appeased.

General Ling has been kneeling for six hours.

Moreover, he's still seriously wounded.

Why don't we...

What?

Come inside!

General Ling,

His Majesty wants you to head inside.

Get up now.

I'll help you out.

Don't help him!

You still want to act stubborn, huh?

Fine!

Stay stubborn then. You're done for.

-Show me how stubborn you are! -Your Majesty.

Show me.

What do you mean by this?

What do you mean by this?

Are you waiting for me to kick you a third time?

Your Majesty, everything you grant to me is a reward.

I do not dare

to avoid your kick.

You interrogated Lord Yong, and you even killed him without permission.

Do you still have respect for me and the Ministry of Justice?

Such audacity!

Innocent warriors had died because of Lord Yong and his son.

General He and his entire family died because of him.

How am I guilty

for killing a sinner like him?

Even so, you do not need to commit the act yourself.

An imperial edict

is all it takes.

Why must you stain your hands with his blood?

I found out that Lord Yong and his son

were involved in other heinous deeds as well.

They deserve to die.

Even so,

you don't need to kill him yourself!

I was upholding justice for the dead.

Upholding justice for the dead?

They're already dead.

Why must you dwell on the past?

Your Majesty.

Stop.

Zisheng,

there's a bottom line to my patience.

The peace of my people

is my bottom line.

Remnants of Emperor Li's forces had caused chaos for several decades.

The peaceful days

that the people had prayed for

only just started.

But now, you're stirring up a storm within the imperial court.

Are you trying to plunge the world into chaos again?

I do not dare to do so.

Today,

due to your act of killing a heinous criminal before trial,

I shall punish you

by deducting half a year's worth of grain from you

and demoting you.

Go back and reflect upon your mistake.

Yes, Your Majesty.

Your Majesty.

That darned brat.

He has such a stubborn temper.

His body is too sturdy.

My legs hurt from kicking him.

And you, Cao Cheng!

Why didn't you stop me from kicking him?

Your Majesty, I deserve to die for that.

Your Majesty,

General Ling is still young.

He'll definitely understand

your painstaking effort one day.

I hope so.

(Grand Tutor Lou's Message)

(His Majesty's order is absolute. Please come and have a chat.)

Have a chat in his residence?

Chat about what?

It's obvious that they're rushing us

to cancel the marriage.

The Lou Family is rushing us to do so

when His Majesty hasn't issued an imperial edict yet.

It's obvious that this wasn't Grand Tutor Fu's idea.

It's First Madam Lou's idea.

This cynical hag.

She is in such a hurry

after hearing some news through the grapevine.

Doesn't she know

that the Cheng Family isn't one to be trifled with

when we're on the battlefield?

What else did the messenger from the Lou Family say?

He even said

that if Madam and Young Lady didn't cancel the marriage,

they would request His Majesty to do so.

They hope that Master and Madam

won't make things difficult for His Majesty.

Fine.

Fine then.

Let's head to the Lou residence

and find out exactly what they're up to.

Let's go.

Yuanyi,

I shall follow you.

General, you don't need to get yourself involved with women's affairs.

You just need to stay here and hold down the fort.

If both of us

did get into a fight with them,

you could come and stop us by then.

Let's go.

They will definitely get into a fight with them.

First Madam Cheng, why are you only here by now?

We will cancel the marriage

even if you are unhappy with it.

Who said we were unhappy with it?

We were just waiting for His Majesty's edict

before canceling the marriage.

We have no choice too.

We cannot leave this

to Shaoshang and Yao.

First Madam Lou, do you intend to say

that I should be benevolent

and cancel the wedding

since General He has just passed away and He Zhaojun is all alone?

Shaoshang,

mind your manners.

If you steal her words,

First Madam Lou will have nothing to say.

The Cheng Family comes from a line of generals too.

I'm sure you can understand how difficult it is

for the He Family to sacrifice for the country.

Speaking of which,

the He Family is a glorious family indeed.

I think Yao's marriage with Zhaojun

is actually a match beyond our social status.

If so, First Madam Lou, why did you leave it

to the second chamber

of your family instead?

Precisely.

Back then, Yao's parents weren't the only ones

who benefited from General He's kindness.

What's wrong?

So, Grand Tutor Lou remembered that he's the eldest son

when he received his hereditary rank.

But now, he forgets that he's the eldest son

when the family needs someone to bear responsibility?

How dare you humiliate my mother?

I'll rip your mouth to pieces.

First Madam Lou,

although

you were being unfair,

you were right about something.

The Cheng Family does come from

a line of generals.

I, Xiao Yuanyi, accompanied my husband to conquer the battlefield.

I usually prefer resolving issues

with swords and spears

to reasoning things out.

First Madam Lou,

do you wish to spar with me?

Initially, I did this

as I was trying to take pity on the He Family.

But you just had to come here and show me your unruly behavior.

Someone!

Someone!

First Madam Lou,

since you said you were taking pity on He Family,

you shouldn't just make empty talks.

Everyone can be a saint if one can boast without actions.

Show us how benevolent you are.

If that's the case,

why don't you let your son cancel his betrothal

and marry He Zhaojun instead?

By then,

you can console the He Family all you want.

I ensure you that the entire city

will praise your virtuous behavior by tomorrow.

What do you think?

You!

First Madam Cheng,

are you going to leave your daughter be

even after she insulted her elder?

I am but a lowly female warrior.

It's reasonable for me to leave her be

even after she insulted her elder.

However, Shaoshang,

you should spare a thought for First Madam Lou as well.

I have never done so.

I always want to spare a thought for my elders.

However, the Lou Family

is just asking for it.

My husband

is the grand tutor of the crown prince!

Where did you two get the guts

to display such audacity in my residence?

His Majesty

conferred the title of Marquis Quling onto my husband personally!

The Cheng Family is only able to get to where we are today

because of our efforts

on the battlefield.

Although the Cheng Family isn't a noble family,

we will not yield

to people who bully us!

Back then, you guys were the ones who requested the marriage.

We agreed to it on account of your pitiful effort.

Even if we were to cancel the marriage,

Grand Tutor Lou should be the one apologizing to us in our residence.

You have no right to bicker with me at all.

First Madam Lou, did you say I was being audacious just now?

It seems to me

that you're the one who's being audacious right now.

Mother,

instruct our servants to chase them out!

From now on, the Cheng Family

is not allowed to come here!

Why are you guys still standing there?

Chase them out immediately!

Mother!

You!

I've shown you

enough respect

on account of the marriage.

Since the marriage has been canceled,

this slap will serve to sever our ties.

From now on, the Cheng Family will never step into this residence.

I will never sully my feet in a dirty place like this.

How dare you slap my mother?

I'll fight you until the end!

Li!

My mother will deal with her.

I will

deal with you.

They're out of their minds.

They must be out of their minds.

How dare you two

slap both of us

in our territory?

I'll report you two to the Changqiu Palace tomorrow.

I'll see how the empress will punish you!

Fine with me. I'll tag along no matter what palace you'll head to.

I'll keep you company until the end.

Let's go.

Calm down.

Yao, your leg...

Shaoshang.

Did they do this to you?

No.

Yao fell from the wall by accident

when he tried to scale it

to find you.

What are you doing here?

First Young Master Lou and I are great friends.

I was here

to visit Lou Yao since I heard

that he was injured.

You're everywhere indeed.

Young Lady Cheng, you were quite sharp with your words.

It seems

that you're quite angry.

Shaoshang,

I'm really sorry about this.

I still don't dare to go against His Majesty's will

after giving it some thought.

What about...

What about this?

Both you and Zhaojun can get married to Yao together.

That way, you two will have equal ranks.

Isn't that the best of both worlds?

Yao, what do you think?

Mother!

If not,

your first uncle will never let us off.

How can we resolve this issue

without your father around?

It's fine as long as

both you and Shaoshang

show respect for Zhaojun after you marry her.

Out of the three sons of the Cheng Family,

no one had taken a concubine before.

No, they will be of equal ranks.

She won't be a concubine.

They will be of equal ranks.

Shaoshang,

did you hear that?

What do you think?

Yao, what's your opinion?

I...

I...

To hell with that!

I will never marry He Zhaojun.

Never.

Yao, just tell me this.

Will you cancel our marriage or not?

I will never cancel our marriage.

It's a deal.

You can get on my carriage.

Let me send you back.

No thanks. My family has a carriage.

Look at how angry your mother was.

Do you think she'll wait for you?

Moreover,

aren't you curious

as to why the He Family

must make Lou Yao marry He Zhaojun?

Follow me.

Mr. Yuan, you were the one

who told me that men and women shouldn't be seated together.

But now, you're asking me to get on your carriage?

Mr. Yuan, did you forget your own teachings?

I did forget something.

I forgot the fact that you were a woman.

Mr. Yuan, since you're trying to be sarcastic here,

I shall get off the carriage now.

Stop.

Since you have such a fiery temper,

why didn't you cancel the marriage outright

when the Lou Family mentioned marrying both ladies?

If Yao knew that marrying both ladies

would be a humiliation to me,

I'd surely slap him to death

if he agreed to it.

However, he didn't agree to his mother's proposal.

Why must I give up on him?

Lou Yao is ignorant and incompetent.

He's not intelligent too.

Are you not willing to cancel the marriage

because you're not willing to dispose of Lou Yao, who's easily manipulated?

Or are you not willing

to give up the chance for you to leave your parents

and explore the vast world outside?

Yuan Shanjian,

stop being jealous of me.

Besides,

even if that was my intention,

it's none of your business.

Stop being so prickly.

Do you know

why General He insisted on marrying his daughter into the Lou Family?

It's because

the descendants of the Lou Family

are scholars and civil officials.

Young Master He can only protect his inheritance

if He Zhaojun gets married to Lou Yao.

Do you mean the troops that belong to the He Family?

It's more than that.

Their manors, houses,

and tribesmen

are under the temporary command of He Zhaojun.

She'll return everything to her brother

after he turns into an adult.

This thing may look simple on the surface,

however, there will be too many changes

during the years when Young Master He

is growing up.

Lou Yao

is the best candidate for He Zhaojun.

However, Yao doesn't like He Zhaojun.

Besides,

I don't believe that there's no one else

who's not impressed with the loyalty of the He Family

and is willing

to marry He Zhaojun.

Now, the He Family is praised throughout the country.

He Zhaojun has plenty of dowries.

He Family cannot believe

those who are eyeing their assets.

However, people who don't have eyes for their assets

are not willing to marry He Zhaojun.

If so,

Mr. Yuan,

why don't you marry He Zhaojun?

You're an open and upright person.

I'm sure you won't take the troops of He Family as your own.

Besides,

you're 100 times more capable, knowledgeable,

and good-looking than Yao.

If you propose to her,

I'm sure He Zhaojun won't...

She won't do what?

I must think twice

before marrying a lady like He Zhaojun.

In the future, I have to sacrifice a lot of my wealth and manpower

to assist the He Family in making a comeback.

You think too highly of me.

It's getting late.

Farewell for now.

Halt.

See yourself off.

Please see yourself off.

Young Lady, why are you getting off?

Let's go.

Young Lady, it's raining.

We don't have any carriages.

Young Lady, be careful.

Why don't we

borrow a carriage from the Lou Family?

No way.

I'm too embarrassed to go back.

(Ruyang)

Will He Zhaojun be convinced

by our plan?

What if she refuses to do so?

She didn't fancy you in the past.

Why would she refuse us?

However,

her entire family just perished in the battle.

We should

express a mild attitude

and be gentle with our words.

We shouldn't make her think

that we're here to bully her.

He Zhaojun is already pitiful enough.

Why don't we

find her some other time?

But...

But will your uncle wait for us?

Even if your uncle was willing to wait,

would His Majesty be willing to wait?

If so,

why don't you talk to her?

This marriage is between you two.

I have no right to interfere.

You do have a point.

(Ruyang)

So, it's you two.

Lady Ancheng,

we...

We're here

to receive you today.

Receive me?

For what purpose?

We have something to tell you.

I have an emergency to attend to.

Lady Cheng, since you need to speak with me,

why don't you join me?

Shaoshang isn't close with you.

Come at me if you dare.

Yao, don't worry.

I won't harm Lady Cheng.

If you don't believe me,

I can swear a vow on my late father's name.

Lady Cheng,

you have the guts to steal my husband from me.

But now, you don't have the guts to join me in my carriage?

There's no need to provoke me.

I came here to talk it out with you anyway.

Yao,

your leg is still injured.

I'll join her.

You better come back

if anything seems suspicious.

Yao does worry about you a lot.

Your relationship of several months

is actually stronger than our relationship of more than a decade.

However, I think it's better for Yao

to be together with you than me.

You've grown up.

It's almost time.

Let us depart.

(Ministry of Justice)

(Ministry of Justice)

Lady Ancheng,

everything is ready.

Lead the way.

Why did you bring me here?

Inside

is the emergency that I had mentioned.

What?

Are you too afraid to enter?

Oh dear,

are you here to see me through my last journey?

Do not call me dear.

I'm here to take your life

to avenge my father and brothers.

I've let you down.

On account of our tie as husband and wife,

I hope you can treat the members of the Xiao Family nicely.

Our tie?

What tie?

Do you mean the tie where you pierced

the heads of my eldest brother and fourth brother with a spear?

Do you mean the tie where you challenged my father to a fight?

Do you mean the tie where you shot my fifth brother dead on the battlefield?

Or do you mean the tie where you stabbed

my pregnant sister-in-law to death?

Do you mean the tie where my nanny had her eyes gouged and her feet chopped off?

His Majesty is benevolent.

On account of the contribution your family had made to the nation,

His Majesty wanted to leave you with a complete corpse.

I was the one who submitted a proposal

to request your decapitation.

From today onward,

the Xiao Family will be known as

traitors who will be cursed upon

by people of the world.

What did you say?

We contributed to the nation.

The Xiao Family was the one

who conquered this territory for His Majesty!

Even the current emperor

remembers our noble acts!

How dare you attempt to decapitate me?

You have no right to say that the Xiao Family are traitors!

You crazy woman!

Shut up!

I rushed back to the capital

just to witness your decapitation.

Time's up.

Time for you to die.

Fine!

Even if I die,

I'll haunt you as a ghost!

Great!

If you do become a ghost,

my father and brothers will surely kill you again.

Let's see who will have it worse!

He Zhaojun,

it's time for his execution.

Let us leave.

His Majesty has permitted me to execute him personally.

Let me

send you to hell myself!

Don't be afraid.

I'm here.
