and I knew in my bones

and I go there and tell them
it's still hurting.

They check me out,
tell me all is fine.

They ask me
about my pain index.

I say I am at a 5.

And they zip in
with a bottle of Oxy

and ask if I want a prescription
for another one,

in case I need it.

And you're both on
the same insurance plan?

Of course.
We get it through our employer.

I mean,
I never would've known

about the difference
in treatment

if I hadn't happened
to mention it to Elise at work.

But then I did
my own research,

and I found that this is a trend
all over the country.

Black people being perceived

to have a higher tolerance
for pain.

That's why I felt like
I had to bring the suit.

And the settlement?

It wasn't for much.

What I wanted was
for them to make some changes.
