this was somehow different i ran

straight outside as soon as i'd wrapped

up warm

the snow was so thick but i was alone

so i threw a couple of snowballs dived

and rolled around

but it's no fun when you're on your own

i think it must have been around about

12 at the time

nothing was ever the same when you left

my life just felt empty and i'd lost my

best friend

i mean don't get me wrong i had plenty

of other friends but

quite a few actually but no one ever

replaced you brother

it was around about the same time that

my dad was having problems with his job

after

the closure of triumph he'd been

unemployed for quite a while and it was

really hard on him i know that now

but to be honest i knew that then but

there wasn't much that i could say

or do to make it any better i know i was

i just remember lying back in the snow

staring at the black sky

it was a dual carriageway but it was

my clothes

and my face started to freeze over

i lay there just like a dead kid like

gosh she was a goddess probably the

first woman i ever

noticed to be honest beautiful

elegant yet funny and a great actress

perfect choice of a woman to having your

key fob in all honesty for anyone who's

an aspiring fan of film

now that was 25 years ago

let's still think about those keys

so this is uh

my last entry i wanted to make a

document

a recording of what happened as a

as a word of warning um

and to explain to my friends and family

why i acted in such a manner

it's um it's difficult for me to express

my feelings at the moment

it's um well my mind's um only one place

it's difficult to

to get out my head

i'll start at the beginning where all

good stories begin

it was stuart who uh who introduced me

to

to her i've been visiting my old friend

stuart and

in the past he'd always been stable safe

solid in his relationship

but he had some problems at home

recently recently split up with his

girlfriend and

on top of this he lost his um his job

his office job

anyway he'd had a few drinks been

chatting for some time

and he said uh toby i need to show you

something

i smiled he was serious

but i've never seen this expression

before it was um

a look of guilt of terror

and well frankly it scared me

anyway we went into a study in this

large room with a little lamp in here

and the light from his computer and he

showed me video

um he told me good stop thinking about

it couldn't get the image out it was

dead

it was obsession i took the chair

and sat at the desk and watched

as the film began to play

it was a park beautiful sunny day beams

of light flashing through the branches

openings of leafy trees it was a young

child

in a white victorian dress holding

balloons in one handed

and the other hand held the hand of an

old

man dressed in a black suit with this

huge

massive moustache and there's a child

reading a red chopper bite wearing a six

million dollar mantissa and these two

girls

threw a frisbee to each other hot pants

and permed hair

and a band played brass instruments

dressed in military attire

it was colorful and beautiful and

i it was almost binding and i could

almost feel the warmth

from the sun

and then the film showed a woman on a

bench

she sat watching the world

with this smile love

and contentment she was beautiful she

had dark hair like

chocolate shaving curls hanging around

the shoulders

and her olive skin just sulking up the

sun's rays

[Music]

full lips cheeks

big dark eyes making her beautiful face

perfect as it could be

the film focused on this woman getting

closer and closer

and she seemed oblivious to the camera

instead watching people go by

enjoying the weather with joy

and happiness people on roller boots

a little dog like in his tail a child on

a penny farthing a girl jogging

listening to a walkman

and in the sky a hot air balloon passed

by with a man in a wicker basket

raising a glass of champagne as a toast

and they're all there for her and she

just watched

soaked them all in

got closer and closer until all that

could be seen

was their eye

i couldn't take my eyes from the screen

it was

this incredible collection of magical

images

people from a different time and place

brought together for this one

moment realizing my mouth was open my

eyes were as wide as they'd ever been i

looked over at

and he said was in his hands

crying in despair

but the screen pulled me away from my

friend and once again i was with her

watching her face feeling her sunny

emotion

and then it ended the screen went blank

and it was over

i gasped and immediately went to hit the

play button again

stuart grabbed my wrist i'm sorry i need

to know if this would have the same

effect on you as it said on me i can't

think straight she's all i can think

about

she's a closed auto but she won't let

you in toby

i held him in my arms as he sold my

t-shirt wet with tears

i put this um outpouring of emotion

down to the gin the drink and cleaned

him up with

tissue and a coffee before

bidding him farewell although

not before sneakily copying the media

file to my smartphone

that was the worst thing i could have

done on the bus home i watched the file

again on my little three inch screen

earpiece

firmly in place i could hear the birds

chirping like i was there

in the park i could hear the chain of

the bicycle and the swoosh as the child

rode past i clear the laughter i could

hear the joyful cries as people play

that the sound of happiness but the fire

changed

were now on the far side of the park

replaced

replaced by a young boy in grey shorts

with the blue sky

as she took each breath her heart

pounding in my ears

and i was aligned and my heart beat to

the same tempo

and rhythm and we became one and i could

feel the warmth on my own skin

as it shone down to hers

suddenly i was jolted to hold his hand

and grabbed my shoulder these two police

officers

lifted me from the empty bus the driver

he was polish i think was pointing and

shouting at me from behind them and

they explained it was the end of the

route and wanted to know why i had

refused to leave the bus

i was confused

they searched my pockets for drugs

nothing and

they sent me on my way with the shelf

i watched the file later that night

the following morning and every

opportunity from that moment on

my girlfriend had left numerous

voicemail messages for me after i'd done

forgotten to turn up for our anniversary

each time i listened the words passed me

by my thoughts were in the park

with her

spent several weeks walking through the

parks all over the city looking for a

bench or a sign to find the exact

and the child with the balloons and the

woman on the bench

i'll take a seat and we'd talk her

charmer and she'd love me

and we would spend every day together

enjoying life

happiness and the part

and then i'd wake up to the reality i'd

lost my job

neglected to turn up for weeks you see

money was running out

i'd become hungry and lonely and

the file didn't seem to glow like it did

before

that's strange the park seemed less busy

fewer people playing ball stray dogs

running across the grass

desecrating barking at the child with

deflated balloons it seemed cold

the few people left were wrapped up

scarves and

woolen hats bitter cold winds frosty

even

she was still on the bench a smile

her eyes and her beauty still pulled me

in

and kept me captivated and alive

it's only now that i can see that

i can't go on like this i can't go on

like this because it's

destroying my life i can't go on with

people ringing and pestering me on the

phone frown knocking on my door all the

time

and the hunger in my belly it's

unbearable

my skin itches and i have this pain in

my head i just need

i need to be with her be safe

and free from the world

and this pain

when you mention ghosts people always

recount their own experiences of the

supernatural

usually mentioning shadows or figures

happenings around their home

it's a feeling of comfort

it's a heavy feeling that soaks up every

part of my vicinity
