on March 10, 1911.

Dante's Divine Comedy was inspired

for a girl of only nine years old,

when the poet was
impressed by her beauty.

Beatriz died at
twenty-four years of age.

And his immortalization became

in one of the most amazing achievements

of human ingenuity - El Infierno

Dante imagines himself
lost in a dark forest.

It glimpses the top of a mountain,
resplendent in the sun.

It is the hill of salvation,
to which he aspires to ascend.

Three wild beasts stand
in the way of Dante:

A panther, which symbolizes greed,

A lion, symbolizing pride, and
a she-wolf, symbolizing lust.

Beatriz, perfection according
to Dante, descends to limbo

and he asks Virgil, a devout
poet, to rescue and guide Dante.

Virgilio appears before Dante,
and frees him from all danger.

He begs him to follow him
to the gates of hell.

Through me, you enter the
city of misfortunes.

Through me, you cross the eternal pain.

You will err among the
abandoned forever.

Here there is no place for hope.

The river Acheron, on which Caron
drags the souls of the dead.

As he approaches the
condemned souls

on the river bank, threatens them.

"May misfortune pursue
you, evil spirits,

Do not get excited about seeing
the light of day again."

Dante is overwhelmed
to see the sorry show

of the condemned souls, on the
way to their fatal destiny.

Dante refuses to continue, Virgilio
reassures him. Dante observes.

Those who during the great rebellion

expelled by heaven.

Hell rejects them

so that the accursed tribe
does not enjoy glory.

Homero, Horacio, Ovidio and
Lucano welcome Virgilio.

He explains to them the nature
of Dante's mission in Hell.

The lasting place of innocent lives

who died before Christ.

Virgilio points to Poets, Philosophers,

Men of State, Men of
Science, all confined.

Its only punishment is to live without hope.

Every guilty soul appears
before Judge Minos

who assigns the punishment.

Allow poets to follow their path.

Francesca De Rimin and her lover,
Paulo, demonstrate before Dante.

The story of Francesca de Rimini.

"One day we read the story of Lanceloto,"

a passionate lover.

Alone we were, no
suspicion nearby.

Trembling, he kissed my lips.

That day we did not read more of the book.

Dante is overwhelmed with
the sad story of Francesca.

And falls to the ground, passed out.

"I passed out of
pity, I felt faint,

and I fell, like a dead body falls."

The circle of the Gluttons, guarded by.

Brain, the monster of the three heads.

He is appeased by Virgil, who throws
a handful of earth in his mouth.

The Gluttons Tortured
by the Eternal Rain

To get to the inner city of Dis,

the inner circle of Hell,

Flegias, under the orders of Virgilio,
transfers them to the other side.

Felipe Argenti recognizes
Dante and tries to hit him.

Virgilio prevents it. "Get away,
go down with the other dogs."

The access of poets to the city

is obstructed by evil spirits.

They impede access to poets

and the three furies appear
on the walls of the city.

Dante holds his hands to his eyes to prevent
them from turning him into granite.

An angel appears ordering
to open the doors.

In the swamp, Virgil explains to Dante.

"Here they are buried in the limo

the souls that were carried away by anger."

The Heroes buried in fire pits.

Farinato rises from the burning tomb

to talk to Dante.

Cavalcanti asks Dante about his son.

Dante replies that he is still alive.

Farinato predicts Dante his exile

and the bitter ingratitude
of his compatriots.

The blasphemers are struck down
by the eternal rain of fire.

Virgilio denounces Capaneo, the proud and

arrogant spirit of antiquity.

The poets descend to the next circle
on the back of the Geryon monster.

"His face, the face
of a righteous man."

His body, snake.

The tomb of a renowned Heretic.

Suicides turned into
shrunken and knotty trees.

Dante asks Virgilio for
some voices he hears.

He tells him to tear a twig
from one of the trees.

Dante obeys and the blood flows,

and the imprisoned spirit turns
out to be that of Pedro de Vigna.

Pedro de Vigna tells the story
of how he was accused of treason

and they punished by stealing his sight

under the orders of the
Emperor Frederick II.

After the torture, he
tears off the blindfolds.

Hoping to see the
light one more time.

In desperation, his brains crash
on the floor of the dungeon.

The harpies, filthy and
obscene, pepper the trees,

inflicting pain on the souls
confined within them.

Those who have wasted their resources,
persecuted by black mastiffs.

Others, whipped by demons
with huge black belts.

"With the first whip, how they jump,"

none stays for the second,
and less for the third.

The river of scum in which the
sycophants and perverts are submerged,

where in vain they try
to cleanse themselves.

Tricksters who have
sold Church property

buried upside down, legs up,

tortured with an intense fire
in the sole of his feet.

One who had been the
Head of the Church,

is denounced by Dante.

Virgil placates the demons
on guard in his circle,

where those who appropriated the
money or the property of others

they are submerged in a
river of boiling fish.

Ciampollo de Navarra falls
into the power of the demons

that they are going to dismember it.

It manages to distract them,
and escapes when jumping

in the lake of boiling fish where
the demons can not capture him.

Poets enter flying
in the next circle

where the demons can
not reach them,

for the Divine Power
that gives them control

on their own circle prevents
them from leaving it.

The Hypocrites wear
huge and heavy layers,

that on the outside they shine
very golden, being of lead inside.

Dante repairs Caifas, the great hypocrite,

that he condemned Christ to death,

nailed and crucified on the ground.

Dante wants to rest, but
Virgilio urges him to continue.

They will continue thanks to Divine help.

Horrible snakes bite thieves.

One of the thieves goes
to Dante and blasphemes.

A snake coils, saying,
"Be silent, tongue."

Corrupt and custodians of public funds

turned into vile and disgusting
animal and reptile forms.

Fraudulent councilors,
twisted counselors,

wrapped in flaming clothes.

Dante spots Ulysses and Diomedes.

Sowers of discord and
promoters of dissension

dismembered by demons.
Mohammed with his chest torn.

Counterfeiters,
fraudsters, alchemists,

Become lepers, crazy and sick.

Dante starts a violent discussion
with some he met in the world.

Virgilio reprimands him saying.

"To hear such a quarrel is the
delight of vulgar minds."

The three giants: Nimrod,
punished for participating

in the confusion of the human
voice in the tower of Babel,

Ephialtes, punished for his
rebellion against Jove,

and Antaeus, whom Virgil orders
to lead them to the next circle.

The giant Antaeus picks up the two
poets in the palm of their hands

and deposit them in the circle.

Traitors of all kinds,
submerged in an ice lake.

Two relatives guilty of
deadly betrayal between them,

nodding.

Traitors from their own country.

Dante, enraged to see
the traitor Abbati,

a lock is pulled from the head.

Count Ugolino gnawing the
skull of Archbishop Ruggieri.

"Lift the jaw of your
disgusting dinner."

Count Ugolino tells Dante
how after a dispute

with his friend the Archbishop,

he, his children and his grandchildren
were condemned to die of hunger

in the tower of Piza under the
orders of the Archbishop.

The count is witness to
the death of his family

and on the sixth day, he
is the only survivor.

On the ninth day, he embarks
on a journey to the afterlife.

Dante sees Friar Albengo, who had
argued with his own brother.

Simulating a reconciliation,
he invited him to a banquet.

Where he ordered his cruel murder.

Lucifer, the great traitor, with
his three mouths in the center,

supports the bodies of Brutus and Cassius.

The poets descend through the hairy
ends of Lucifer, the monster,

to reach the underground passage.

The poets leave hell. They
return to contemplate the stars.
