have gone after Sonova

once their mine was approved.

Brian Stafford was a respected

research biologist.

Before he died, he was writing
a paper on the effects

of copper sulfate
on aquatic life.

Now, he didn't know it,
but what he was writing was

gonna make it pretty impossible
for Sonova to get approval.

Laura Blankenship worked

for the Department
of the Interior,

in charge of granting
construction permits.

Last year, she approved about

400 and denied over 1,000.

And guess who she denied
three years

The loan-out company

that Sonova is using

to build the mine.

Harold Bradshaw.

Now, this one was tricky.

We had to dig
into a century-old

family deed.

Bradshaw held the water rights
on land Sonova is digging in.

After Bradshaw's death,

water rights reverted
back to public use,

and Sonova
snapped them up.

So these four were killed

because they were
standing in the way

of Sonova building
a copper mine.

Sonova is getting into

They need the copper
to make their phones.
