So when I first met Lily,

it was pretty much
through Facebook

where I had posted something

in the girls roommate
finder chat,

and she was the first one
to comment

so then I ended up messaging her

about being roommates

and we ended up just talking
about our hobbies

and then I was talking
about art, and she said,

"Oh, yeah, like,
I'm into art and stuff too,

like, I love domino art."

And I was like, "Wait, what?"

[Tatum] Basically they were...
they were telling us

at this orientation all, like,

amazing talents we had
in our incoming class

and they apparently
had mentioned

that we had a famous
domino artist

in our incoming class
and I didn't know that

but, like, at that point,
like, we all kind of like

looked at each other, like,
"Oh, look at that,

we have a famous person
in our class."

Not knowing that Lily,
sitting next to me,

was that person.

I was in my room and I was
editing one of my videos

and my roommate actually,
she's like,

"Oh, what are you
working on?" I was like,

"Oh, I'm just editing a video.

I just do it for fun."
And she was like,

"Oh, are you domino girl?"

And I was like, "What?"

She's like, "Yeah, there's
a freshman in our class
this year

and she's like
famous on YouTube."

And I was like, "What?"

Eventually I guess one day

I was scrolling
through my Facebook feed

and I saw that Wolverine
had shared a video

and the person had the same
last name as Lily.

And I was like, "Oh, like, whoa,

they have the same last name
as my roommate."

And then I clicked on
the profile and I was like,

"Wait, this looks like
my roommate.

Is this my roommate?"

So I look her up on YouTube

and I see
all these incredible videos,

like, 50,000 dominos
and I'm just like,

"Whoa. What is this?

Am I rooming with just

this low key famous person

who just didn't even
tell me about it

before we agreed
to room together?"

[upbeat music playing]

[birds chirping]

Awesome, okay.
I think we are all set to go,

let me just pull up
the questions.

All right. We are rolling.

So let's talk about
what you're doing on YouTube

first of all and how many
followers do you have?

[Lily] Yeah. So I have a
YouTube Channel called Hevesh5

and I post
all of my dominos there,

I've been doing it since,
uh, 2009, in January.

That's when I posted
my first video

and now my channel has over
1.9 million subscribers

and it's the most subscribed
domino channel on the web.

But I'm gonna try that, like,

couple of times
because that's...

- Okay.
- Obviously very important.

I just wanna have a few
different versions of it.

So, let's try it again.

All right.

My name is Lily Hevesh
and I'm a domino artist.

[interviewer]
Why do you do this?

I love building,
that's just, you know,

that's something I've always
loved even as a kid,

I'd play with Legos
and building blocks,

and when I found dominos,

it kind of combined
my interests with, um, like,

engineering
and the creative side.

[upbeat music playing]

[Lily]
Dominos are very artistic

but it's also something
that you have to engineer.

So it's a balance
between engineering

and how do you build it

in a way that it'll be reliable

and then it's also
you have to make it

look aesthetically pleasing.

You can build tall structures,

uh, you can build flat
on the ground,

you can spell out words,
use accessories like bridges,

and fall walls, and staircases,

I mean, with dominos,
if you have an idea

it's likely that you can do it.

[upbeat music playing]

[Lily]
It teaches you patience,

it teaches you geometry,
it teaches you physics,

it teaches you how
to be precise with things,

and all of these benefits

come from just these
little pieces of plastic.

[upbeat music playing]

[Lily] I've always been
kind of someone that, like,

once I start something,
I like, give it my all

and I perfect it
and I keep practicing

no matter what
until I get it right.

It's like when I'm building,

it's like I'm almost in a trance

and I like get into the zone
of where I could just

focus on the dominos
and create something

that I think of
and make it come to life.

[upbeat music playing]

[Lily] I've always been
very persistent with things,

very determined, and I think
that translates a lot

to what I do now and yeah.

[upbeat music playing]

[indistinct chatter]

[Lily] Hello everyone,

my name is Lily Hevesh

and we are domino artists,

does anyone
wanna knock this down?

- Yeah?
- Yeah.

- [Lily] All right.

[Lily] Three, two, one, go.

[Lily] Little bit about
how I first got into dominos,

I was like nine, ten years old,

my grandparents had this set
of 28 dominos with them

with the dots
and I was just bored one day,

so I decided to set them up,
knock them down,

and I, for some reason, really
liked watching them fall.

So you see this edge.

And then this edge,
that should all be parallel.

Oh, okay.

And then that'll make sure
it's an even curve.

I would push these two
together a little bit closer.

So I can...
Like in the middle?

[Lily] Yup. Perfect.

If you're building,

a trick you can do
is make a safety gap

by taking out five dominos
in a row.

So if I do accidentally
knock it down, like that,

it only knocks down
a section of the build

instead of the entire thing.

You could start it here,
and then both will go

at the same time,
that'll look pretty cool.

- Maybe even a little
bit closer if you can.
- Closer? Okay.

[Lily] I started... Well,
I made my channel in 2008,

I was nine at the time
which I wasn't supposed

to have a YouTube Channel
but I did.

Move this domino
a little bit more that way

so that it's in line
with that one.

But then just angle it
slightly inward.

The thing that kept me going
was just learning

from all of my failures
so if something didn't work,

I had to figure out,

"Okay, why exactly
didn't this work?"

- No!
- Whoa, I saved it.

Maybe get rid of this one

and then have it
trigger right here.

- Oh, okay. Okay.
- From the top.

- Yeah. Ah, geez.
- That's okay.

- You didn't need that
section anyways.
- All right.

Do you need any help?

[Lily] Just stay calm, know that

it's all a learning process

and with practice,
you'll get better

and have fun because dominos
are awesome.

a project for

the Washington State Lottery

and the idea for this is

whenever you buy a ticket
for them,

it's not just supporting
the lottery itself

but a portion of the money
goes to

all these other things too.
It looks like

it's one set up
but they're filming it

with each trick individually

and then they'll edit it
together in a screen length

to make it look like
it's one big set up.

[dramatic music playing]

How do you come up with
the complex domino displays?

[Lily] A lot of the time,
I like, don't plan anything,

it... I just like
start building

and then I think of an idea
and I'm like,

"Oh, how can I,
like, make it even better?"

But ideas just come out
when I'm sleeping

or in the middle of the day,
they just pop-up.

[dramatic music playing]

[Malia] Your assistants,
how'd you find them,

- where did they come...
- [Lily] Oh, the other
builders?

- [Malia] Yeah.
- [Lily] Well, we've worked at
other domino events before.

- So we know each other.
- [Malia] That's like
a random job?

- [Lily] Yeah.
- [Malia] Not many people
could have that job.

- [Lily] Yeah, there's probably
like 15 of us in America.
- That's pretty cool.

Who, like, do this
professionally.

- Pretty niche.
- [Malia] Pretty cool
and you built

the whole business
around it, right?

- [Lily] Yeah. Yeah.
- [Malia] Where do you live?

I'm from New Hampshire
originally.

[Malia] And then you're here
in Seattle?

-[Lily]
This is my spring break.
-[Malia] Gosh.

[Lily] Yeah.

All right.
We can clean this up now.

[announcer] It all
begins with a dollar.

When you play
Washington's Lottery,

the benefits

being in college, I feel like

it's actually
like the happiest I've been

because, like, I've met
so many amazing people

that I actually feel
like we're real friends.

In high school,
like, I didn't really

have like a super close
best friend, I guess,

I was just like with people.
But now,

I found people
that I can truly connect to.

It's sort of like a break
from dominos

being in college, in a sense,

I can sort of forget
about dominos

because I can't build here,

but I kind of realized
why am I actually here,

I built up this huge thing
with dominos

and getting a degree
is not gonna help me

in what I want to do.

I know that just being here,
I'm not going

to be able to do dominos
or even make videos.

So if I stay here,
everything that I've built up

in the last nine years
would just die out.

My mom wants me to stay
in college

because she's nervous
that not being in college,

you won't get a full education

but I'm getting so much
experience just being out

and doing projects,
and travelling,

that in a sense
is an entirely different

kind of education.

Honestly I'm not sure
but I don't think

I'm gonna come back to college,

that's my gut feeling.

I called my dad and I was like,

"Dad, I wanna do dominos."

And we had a whole
conversation about

dropping out and...

But I was like outside
on a bench

and I remember
I, like, started crying,

oh, man, I'm tearing up now,
[chuckles]

and also like, just like,

missing all my friends here,

it's definitely gonna be hard

but I know great things
are ahead of me.

[dramatic music playing]

[giggling]

[Lily] We are in Brattleboro,
Vermont

and we're setting up
about 30,000 dominos

at the Brattleboro Museum
and Art Center.

We didn't really plan
this set-up at all

except a couple of field plans.

I think that's what
makes this event different,

is that we don't plan anything

and we can make everything
very free form

and more exciting in a way

because it's not planned
to the exact domino.

And that's what makes this
event so cool.

[Shane] I think, a big reason
why I was into dominos

as a, you know, a young kid
and still today

is just there's
so much creativity behind it,

um, and I think
there's just something magical

about getting,
you know, thousands

or, you know, tens of
thousands of, you know,

small pieces and
then putting them together

to do something that they
couldn't do on their own.

[Chris] Most art is a very
static form

whereas when we build
with dominos,

before you topple it,
there could be structures

and pictures,
and after it all falls,

it just looks like
a big mass of colors.

[Nathan] For me, like,
when I first got into it,

I pretty much would do this
just nonstop,

I would set them up
and knock them down.

I think the obsession part
comes in

with just the organization

that dominos has, like,
there's just a certain...

a certain kind of
concentration that you have

to have,
you have to really understand

like how things work.

[Shane]
And then on top of that,
obviously you gotta...

There has to be a ton
of patience.

You know, there are exciting
parts of domino toppling

but you know 99.9%
of the work

is gonna be quiet,
it's gonna be by yourself,

you're just gonna be
with your own thoughts.

I would say at first,
I didn't really share

my domino building hobby,

because I did think
it was very strange,

I didn't know anyone else
that had built dominos,

I didn't wanna tell people
because they...

I didn't want people to know
that I spent so much time

by myself in my basement.

[dramatic music playing]

[Chris] So to my knowledge,
Lily is the only professional

domino artist who is a girl.

[all] Three, two, one, go.

[dramatic music playing]

[Shane] I first met Lily
in 2012.

It was the first time that,
like, a group

of domino builders
in the United States

had ever met up.
We didn't really know

each other,
at least I hadn't, like, seen

anybody
who I was gonna work with.

So I didn't know what
anyone looked like,

I didn't really know a whole lot

of personal details
about anyone.

[Chris] Prior to this
first event in 2012,

no one knew
each other very well.

No domino builders in America
had really met up before.

So we all just assumed
that we were all,

like, teenage guys.

Like, I saw someone in their car

with a trunk full of dominos

and I saw a girl
in the passenger seat

and I thought,
"Well, who could this be?"

I know Shane
is definitely not a girl.

I know XX Domino Master,
he was a guy.

And I was sort of like going
through my head thinking,

"Okay. Well who could it be?"
And then, I realize,

oh, like when she introduced
herself as Lily

I was like, "Oh,
you're Lily Hevesh."

So it was so surprising to us

just because I felt like,
I had planned stuff

with these people,
I had talked to them online

and it just never
really registered to me,

as like, something
that would happen. [laughs]

We did not like think
of this at all

before we got in here.

[Lily] It's been six
and a half years

of me posting videos
anonymously.

And well,
it's time to change that.

So first of all,
hi, um, I'm Hevesh5.

And yes, I am a girl.

Uh, you might have seen
in my videos

people comment things, like,

"How come you don't show
your face in your videos?

Like who are you?"

Well, um,

I am Hevesh5.

[whimsical music playing]

[Shane] You know, if you're
gonna be the only female

in the professional
or like in a group

then unfortunately you have
to prove it sometimes.

And so, I think she took that

and she like proved it times 10.

[Chris]
Lily's attention to detail

is completely unparalleled

among any other domino builder

that currently is active today.

[Nathan] She does a great job

of taking tricks

and just making them look
so breathtaking.

And not only just the dominos

but, like,
she's great with the camera

and great with video editing
and there's so many builders,

uh, myself included
that have learned

from her style of videos.

Like her video that blew up

started getting us
corporate jobs

and so we started meeting
each other more through that,

we got funding to do projects.

And now, there's this dream

of being able to do
dominos professionally

and to be like famous almost.

[Lily]

Whether that's streaming,

or it's people
sending Snapchat videos,

or creating Instagram videos,

or posting on YouTube,

a million hours of videos
is being made every day.

anyone can have access

to the tools to make this stuff.

Almost everyone has
a camera in their pocket

and the camera's networks.

So the generation
that's growing up right now,

Gen Z, or whatever
it's being called right now

understands moving image
completely differently,

they grew up with literally tens

of millions of videos
at their...
at their fingertips.

Being able to decide
what they wanna watch,

skip, to try something else.

- [Lily] Hello.

- [Lily] Yes.
- but I didn't know
who you were.

- And I'm a huge...
- [Lily] Oh, John.

- fan of your stuff.
- [Lily] Thank you so much.

You are overwhelmingly
my favorite dominos

creator on YouTube.

And they're not beholden

to sort of these structures
that it existed before.

The distribution models
and all that sort of stuff,

and that changes
what video means.

They learn something
very different

about what video is.

[interviewer] Has anybody
told you that they...

That you've inspired them
to do their domino videos

- of their own?
- [Lily] Yeah, totally.

A lot of people comment like,

"Hey, I saw your videos

and I decided
to get dominos myself

because of you."
And that's so cool

because I started by watching
other people's videos

and now I'm like doing
that back to them.

And the other distinction
it's just that the speed

at which it's produced,
it's much faster.

Hollywood film
takes a year and a half,

you know, minimum.

YouTube videos
can be turned around

the same day
and it's accessible,

they don't have
to go to a theater,

they don't have
to like sit through,

you know, exposition. [laughs]

I mean, what you're looking at

is significant cultural
products.

This is what media means

to the whole generation

of kids growing up

and we would ignore
at our own peril.

[dramatic music playing]

[Lucy] So I grew up since
like middle school through...

All through high school
watching people posting videos

about their life
and other topics on YouTube.

I think some
of my biggest role models

growing up
were some of the YouTubers

that I watch. I grew up
and I didn't have

any icons that I really
looked up to as a woman.

And then you go on YouTube
and there's all

these people's talking
about their experiences

and it's so much more
of a personal connection

than like a TV celebrity.

Who seem so fake
and like manufactured,

but on YouTube
it's just one person

with a camera and it's so real.

You as a creator,
you're trying to...

you're trying to focus
on creating content

that you're into,
stuff that motivates

- and inspires you.
- [Lucy] One of my favorite
YouTubers,

he's like the biggest
inspiration to me

is Casey Neistat.
And he always says

filmmaking is a sport

and it's like this new wave

of social media where before

it was just this big
production to make a video,

to make a movie.
But now anyone

can just pull out
their phone, film a video

and put their ideas out
into the world

and I think that's, like,

that's what's so great
about YouTube,

it's like literally anyone
can do it.

It really is just like
a unique platform.

And I think Lily
has definitely used it

to its fullest extent
about her dominos

to share something that,

without YouTube,

I don't think anyone
would know about,

or care about,
or be interested in.

But there are other people
around the world

that care about it too
and by being able to put it

online and being able to
share it to all these people,

I think it's all there.

And I think it's...

it's definitely
like one of a kind, yeah.

[Lily] People always ask me,
"How do you do all of this?"

This should be in line.
This should be in line.

- Simple, right?
- Yes, I got this.

Now if you need to make
the dominos turn and cross,

add another domino
and then angle it 45 degrees.

So I'm starting out
by planning the project

on my computer using Photoshop.

I've made a rectangle
that's the size of a domino

and duplicated that many
times to make a speed wall.

I can fill in
using the paint bucket tool

so I can trace out which colors

will make up the dominos
in the background.

[upbeat music playing]

This is a new trick
that I invented

called soniverse which combines

the trick sonimod
and reverminos.

I have another domino deep dive

where I react
to your domino videos

and give you tips and tricks

and just ways that you can
improve your set-up.

Do a little example right here.

So we got...
This is the base

this is the domino
that goes on top of it.

The best...
Waa! It fell.

I'm trying to figure out

why this trick failed
on the corners.

Okay. I think I know why.

So when you're building
this trick,

what you're gonna do
is just lean this

and then very carefully lean
this one.

And now all you have to do

is go like that

to make it go back
to a single line like this.

We're at the New York Toy Fair

and we're trying to find

the right manufacturing partner

to make H5 dominos

which is the domino
that I've envisioned

for years and it's the perfect
toppling domino.

And we're just gonna see
how it goes,

I mean, we've had
a few failed attempts

in the past, um,
but I'm optimistic

and we're gonna keep trying.

The feel of it shouldn't
be too slippery or...

But it also can't be too rough,

so we have to get that down.

And then color consistency
is very important.

So we wanna standardize that

because it's not just building,

it's like, the aesthetics
and how it sounds.

Those are the main points.

We're looking to actually

have my own branded H5 dominos.

[Mark] Um, so we're looking
to partner with somebody...

- [man] Yeah.
- [Mark] ...to help get it
to market.

Lily has been talking
about her own line

of dominos for years.

And, uh, on a certain
it's unlikely

but we're, you know, we tag
team it, we work together.

We have a little media deck
we show them

and, um, get them to understand

what the opportunity is.

[Lily] First up

You know, we'd come here

of failed attempts.

You build something
that I would consider

not a mass appeal-type product.

You know,
people aren't clamoring

to go do dominoes
but you've taken something

that's kind of stale
and boring and made it fun.

People wanna watch it.

Here's a little bit about us,

people might've told you this.

Our focus is really Walmart
and Target.

It's really all we do.

And so it's back to my fear
and concern that this...

Just being honest between us,

I just don't know if there's
a play to Walmart-level

or a Target-level
for this kind of product.

[Lily] So this collaboration
is between me,

Kaplamino, and Benjamin Crouzier

and we're setting up
Kapla projects

which are basically
wooden planks

that are about this high,
the same width

and, uh, and thickness
of the domino

but they're just
a little bit longer.

And it allows you to build
giant structures

and almost like architectural
bridges with them.

And they collapse
in the same way

kind of similar as dominoes.

In the YouTube world,

there's a whole domino
and chain reaction community,

so we've been watching
each other's videos online

for years and we thought
it would be cool

to come together
and build a project

and then post it on YouTube.

[sighs]

I hate myself.

Yeah, it's, uh, it's incorrect.

Yeah, it's missing one,
uh, over there,

well it's not here.

[Lily] Oh.

We all have
our own different styles.

But when we're all able
to come together,

we're able to bounce ideas
off of each other

and really make a setup

that we might not think
of on our own

but together we can make
something that's even more

innovative and more interesting.

[Lily] We saw
the Eiffel Tower yesterday.

Which is beautiful.

Uh, it's all lit up.

So we do have time to do
a little bit of sightseeing

and that's pretty cool.

I think this might
actually be my favorite place

that I visited.

Well, it all fell.

Um, but we have two hours left
so we're gonna clean up

and then build
some random things over here

connected to the dominoes.

When I was growing up,

I live next door
to my grandmother.

And she took in foster children

throughout my whole life.

In fact, she took over 50 kids

during her lifetime
and fostered them.

So I was always very used
to children coming in

from other families
who needed homes.

[Mark] I was perfectly happy
with Matthew and Alyssa.

I mean, we had our hands full
but she always wanted

to give a home to a kid
who needs a family.

And then we learned
about these little girls

who need to be adopted
from China.

[somber music playing]

[Mark]
The Chinese government limits

the number of children
you can have

in most provinces in China.

But there is, uh, a really
strong cultural element

because the parents have a kid

they want it to be male.

And that is really what's behind

a lot of the bringing
the baby girls

to the orphanages,
keeping the son.

[Catherine] So there were...

a lot of little girls in China

who are only there
because they were girls.

And they were healthy,
they were smart,

they were capable,
they were regular kids

who just needed a chance.

And so that's why
we signed up, um,

to adopt a little girl
from China.

Lily was abandoned as a...
as a newborn.

Uh, she was left

at the doorstep of an orphanage.

There was nothing left
with her to identify her

in any way.

So we don't know anything
about her biological family.

They told us her birthday
was October 2nd.

That was their best guess.

Nobody really knows for sure

but that's the birthday
that we celebrate.

She was very, very thin,

and exceedingly anemic.

[Mark] She was tired
and she was hungry

and her clothes
weren't particularly clean.

[Catherine] She was scared
more than anything.

[Mark] And she was...
she was scared.

In fact, you travel
with a pediatrician

and he said that Lily
might be special needs.

[Catherine] So they said,
"There she is.

Do you accept her?"

And I was freaked, like,
"What are you talking about?

Of course, I accept her."

I accepted her a long time ago.

It was a little different
with Lily in that

she was very insecure
for quite a while.

I hadn't really considered

that a child that young
could be impacted

by being abandoned as a newborn.

And even though
she couldn't articulate

those words to me at that time,

she was very afraid that
she would be abandoned again.

And so she stuck to us
like glue.

If we went to social gatherings,

she stayed with us.

She'd be in our lap,
she'd be right next to us

and not really venturing
very far away.

Once she learned how to speak,

she was about eighteen months,

two-years-old and she was
talking in sentences,

and we were home alone here
and I was doing something

and she was sitting on the floor

and doing a puzzle next to me.

And she looked up at me
and she said,

"Mama, I don't want anyone
to take me away."

[Mark] Lily, love you.

- I love you.
- [Mark] Okay.

[Catherine] So I didn't feel
any difference at all,

being a mother to Lily.

Some of my friends had asked,
you know,

"Isn't it gonna be weird
for you to adopt

and how are you ever
gonna love this child

the same as your other ones?"

And that just sounded like
the most ludicrous question

that anybody could ask.

You can love anyone.

There's no requirement for blood

to be in the equation.

[Lily] So growing up,
my entire elementary school,

I was the only Asian-American.

Like everyone else was...

It's like a very White town
or area that I grew up in,

so I was the only one
who is Asian

and, like, I knew
from a very early age

that I was adopted.

I told people openly like,
"Yeah, I'm adopted."

But I don't think,
like, being adopted

really bothered me that much,

like, I grew up
in an American family.

So in some ways,
like, I didn't really know

what it meant to be Asian
or Chinese.

I have thought about

if my parents didn't adopt me,

and I have no idea
where my life would be.

I'd probably be a completely
different person.

I don't know.

I think about what are the odds

that I'm sitting right here
with you filming me

in this position at this time
asking me these questions.

The number is so low.

I was like,

You are considered
a domino artist.

Um, the world's best,
from my understanding.

Because you make
some crazy stuff,

like, totally sick.

So anyways, let's start
from the beginning,

like, you were adopted, right?

[Lily] I was.

I was adopted
when I was one years old

and my parents got me
from China.

My parents are not Asian,
they're White.

But it's just interesting
because, like,

whenever I see
another Asian person,

it, like, catches me off-guard.

- [YoungWa chuckles]
- Because I grew up literally

not seeing any Asian people.

[YoungWa] Yeah,
because I'm adopted too

and we had talked
about this before,

but I think, like,
I kinda saw myself

as being a White person.

And so when you do see
that other Asian person,

it's like...

it's like a stark reminder
about, "Oh, I'm Asian too."

Yeah, I can relate to that too.

- You know what I mean?
- Yeah.

[YoungWa] So I guess, like,
what are some other things

that, um, most people

like your audience
wouldn't know about you?

[Lily] Hmm. I'm like
kind of a workaholic.

It's like when I take a break,

like I don't know
what to do with myself.

I don't know,
I get like antsy, it's weird.

- [YoungWa] Really?
- [Lily] I started the channel

when I was literally,
like, nine or ten years old.

- [YoungWa] Oh, my goodness.
- [Lily] I was so young.

Um, but I think I...
In a weird kinda way,

I, like, sacrificed a lot
of my childhood.

- Mmm-hmm.
- Like, to do this.

But, like, I was okay with that.

- Like...

- Why were you okay with that?
- [Lily] I don't know.

I feel like I didn't have a,
"Oh, my high school,

middle school experience
was so fun,"

kinda time,
you know what I mean?

was not your best years?

I mean, that's gotta be like

an insurmountable amount
of, like, pressure

in regards to, like, your status

in the domino world.

[Lily] Yeah, I mean, I always
get hate comments and trolls.

Um, at this point now,

they're not gonna stop me
from building dominoes.

I don't know.

What are some qualities
that you probably

don't show in your videos?

[Lily] I'd say
I'm very optimistic

and I think having
this kind of outlook on life

has really helped me be happy.

There's so much good in life.

Like, we have so many more
rights and freedoms and...

- [Lily] ...technologies

and the power
of the internet now.

You can literally do anything.

so we won't have to worry

about getting the pyramid
too much.

And then we have another
string system

that's gonna go from the carpet

up onto the couch,
so keep that all in one shot.

And then I'll be moving

It's gonna fall off the table,

hit the white dominoes
on the ground,

trigger the blue,

and then the spiral is gonna go.

It goes in with black,

and then it goes back in

and scared

I was just like lonely, yeah.

I think it just took me a while

to find the right
group of friends

and I was with people

that I maybe didn't connect
with super well.

Sometimes like back then,

I'd wear something
that I maybe didn't like

but maybe other people
would like or whatever.

But then I think I kind
of like turned to dominoes

because that's what
I had time for

and I don't know,

I didn't...

didn't feel like I had
a lot of people

that like really
connected with me.

- Does that make sense?

I don't know.

I just didn't know how to be me

because I didn't know who I was.

Like I feel like
a lot of kids that age

they just kind of do things
to fit in.

If you do anything different

from the standard social norm,

it's considered weird.

And I feel like a lot people
kind of conform themselves

to what they think
people will like

so that people like them

when really that's not
who they are.

Because I didn't have a lot
of close friends,

I had dominoes and I had
this community online

that share this passion of mine.

And I found friends
through that.

what do you think all that
like taught you something

about, you know,
having a unique interest

or being a domino artist?

Hmm. Yeah.

I mean,
if you have an odd interest,

keep doing it.

If you like it,
and it brings you joy,

then it doesn't matter
what anyone else thinks

because it's just you

and whatever you're doing,
you know.

It could be the thing
that you do

for the rest of your life.

But if you listen
to other people

who say it's dumb,
then you never know

what could happen
and what you could turn into.

so it's quite a large setup.

projects you've had to tackle?

Hmm. No.

So how do you manage balancing
what you wanna do

that out myself.

because now I feel like
I can really connect

with my audience more
and talk to them

which is something that
I've been wanting to do
for a while.

I mean, I could technically
do domino work anywhere

as long as I have a space.

saying like, "Oh, hey,

I saw that you're in the city,

It's sometimes really nice
to be around other people

You're in a process
of expanding, right?

I mean, are you ready to,
like, hire people.

but also it's like scary

because I really have no idea
what I'm doing

like, never been
to business school,

haven't taken a business class,

I'm just figuring it out
on the spot.

I describe it
as like coming here,

it's like very validating
about what you do

because here, we're creators

and it's definitely
really motivating.

uh, I'd probably be
in college right now.

most about New York City

they all have these goals

and they're working towards it.

just thinking about it,

to be a little more rough

than the slipperiness

for what you're looking for,

it's actually fairly
precision manufacturing.

a cheap quality manufacturer.

We need a good quality
manufacturer,
