[Legend of Fuyao]

[Episode 52]

Wintry Hall...

It's the most important place in the Royal Court of Tiansha.

If blood must be offered in consolation to the ancestors of those warriors

you're not fit for it.

Yes, that's true!

My blood would only stain this place!

It's not good enough to be spilled!

Today...

I'm only standing here...

because of the countless comrades who sacrificed their lives for me.

So many innocent lives were taken!

If you were to walk out of Wintry Hall unscathed...

how am I to offer consolation to our siblings, who you murdered?

How am I to appease the people?

You can't kill me!

You can't kill me! You can't!

We're brothers, after all!

Brothers?

Brothers?

If you had even an iota of compassion or morals in you

Tiansha wouldn't have ended up in this state!

Wintry Hall--

wouldn't be haunted by innocent souls.

Look! Isn't Grand Consort Jing alive and well?

I've always seen her as my own mother.

Even if it's for that, you can't kill me!

Shut up!

From Mount Changhan to Pan City

from Geya Desert to the ice field

which inch of our land hasn't suffered because of your tyranny and cruelty?

Which city haven't you extorted from?

Yet today, you have the gall to say that!

Don't you dare dream of making excuses for your crimes!

Rumors! They're just rumors!

Don't kill me!

Don't kill me!

Don't kill me...

Leave.

Thank you! Thank you!

Thank you!

My good brother!

Thank you...

Old Master Zhou...

You can finally rest in peace!

I'm here.

Fifth Brother!

Did you kill Zhan Nan Cheng?

I knew you could do it.

Fifth Brother, listen.

The secret army is remarkable.

Just now, a large troop of reinforcements arrived.

But they wiped them all out in no time.

I'll definitely keep my promise.

Tiansha is your home too.

Now...

Come home.

Tiansha Kingdom's National Remembrance Day!

Wine is offered in jade cups so the fallen may drink their fill!

All shall pay their respects!

The fallen shall return in spirit and soul.

Offer the incense to pay our respects.

May the souls of the fallen ascend to Heaven!

Offer the wine and fill the cups!

Offer three rounds of wine!

The Gold of Tiansha, brave and righteous!

Great virtues come with heavy responsibilities.

Thousands of lives are blessed with a better life.

Heaven and Earth can't be fooled.

A ruler is chosen by reason.

He disciplines himself to be upright.

He comforts his people with benevolence.

The golden box shall be sealed!

May the souls of the fallen rest in peace six feet under!

May all souls find peace!

The ritual of libation is concluded!

The new king shall take the throne!

Upon the gods and Heaven above

in the name of gods and the earth we stand upon

they offer their blessings and bestow a heavenly decree!

They have chosen Prince Lie for the people!

From this day forth

Tiansha Kingdom's new reign shall commence!

It's the first year of the Yongji Reign!

Announcements are to be sent out across the nation!

The five kingdoms shall be notified!

May the ice field, rivers, and mountains remain forever unchanged!

May the people be blessed for all of eternity!

May the ice field, rivers, and mountains remain forever unchanged!

May the people be blessed for all of eternity!

All generals and soldiers who participated in the conquest

endured great hardships and toiled in extreme weather!

It is with the many sacrifices that a great achievement is attained!

With reasonable discretion, according to contributions made

rewards and titles will be bestowed!

Today, the capital's official, Qiu Cheng Dong

is conferred as Grand Military Marshal.

He is to be a first-rank honorary official.

He's also the Right Pillar-of-State and Marquis Tongding.

His wages will be 2,500 bushels of grain.

His descendants shall inherit his titles!

The official of the capital, Sun Feng Guo

is conferred as Grand Military Marshal.

He's also Marquis Baocheng with wages of 2,500 bushels of grain.

His descendants shall inherit his titles!

All other generals and soldiers will be rewarded accordingly!

My King, thank you for your graciousness!

Thank you, My King!

Today, the new king is crowned.

He understands the weight of responsibility

and performs his duties with conscientiousness.

He shall improve through reforms.

To govern well, amnesty is bestowed to all in the nation!

It shall be a fresh start for the people!

All the treasures in Singing Frost Tower shall be returned to their owners!

This royal decree shall be made known across Heaven and Earth.

It shall be announced to the public and known to all.

March 9th of the first year of Tiansha's Yongji Reign.

Long live the king!

- Rise. - Thank you, My King!

My King, you're closing down Singing Frost Tower, aren't you?

Tiansha won't need Singing Frost Tower anymore.

I was listening to the decree for the rewards.

Something seems amiss.

My King, did you forget to list someone?

For the sake of a new reign, Fu Yao took such a huge risk alone

to infiltrate and approach Zhan Nan Cheng.

In less than a month

she took out Prince Huan's influence in the palace without any bloodshed

and took over the Gold of Tiansha.

She managed to save the most elite soldiers of Tiansha.

When you rose in rebellion

she helped by creating a diversion in the Royal Court.

She also won some influential officials over.

I believe that... when it comes to her contributions

no one in this Royal Court is a match for her.

Crown Prince is right.

Fu Yao is indeed the most meritorious figure

in the founding of the new Yongji Reign.

Then...

I beseech you, the new king, to bestow her with a special reward.

Fu Yao once saved my life in Mount Changhan.

She also infiltrated the Royal Court in Pan City.

She saved thousands of my people in Tiansha.

Her valiance is unrivaled.

She's an unparalleled stateswoman.

I definitely won't let her down.

However, this is Tiansha's domestic affair, after all.

Crown Prince, you needn't worry about it.

I have no right or intention to interfere with Tiansha's domestic affairs.

I believe you won't forget Fu Yao's unrivaled merit.

But as the new king is crowned and rewards are bestowed across Tiansha

the balance of powers is essential.

I'm concerned that you'll have no choice but to keep powers in check.

So it might be hard for you to decide on Fu Yao's reward.

Your Highness, you're overthinking.

- I-- - I have a presumptuous request.

Please consent to it.

Your Highness contributed much to my new reign.

Tiansha Kingdom is very grateful.

Please speak your mind.

As Fu Yao has contributed immensely

I hope that you'll make an exception by conferring her as a vassal king.

Should you be concerned that the Royal Court will oppose to it

or that the people will criticize you

I, Zhangsun Wu Ji, am willing to offer any compensation

as the Crown Prince of the five kingdoms.

As for the trivial assistance I offered, it doesn't mean much at all.

But if you take my effort to heart

you might as well count it as Fu Yao's merit.

Reward her for it as well.

The former General of True Valiance, the commander of the Gold of Tiansha...

Fu Yao is hereby conferred as the Vassal King of Han.

Her title shall be inherited by her descendants.

Mount Changhan and the neighboring six counties shall be her fiefdom.

Full governance in military, politics, iron mining, and customs.

I've never heard of anything like this.

Who has?

I'm just concerned this may have a serious drawback.

Crown Prince Wu Ji made that request.

Who would dare to turn him down?

It isn't as simple as it seems.

The title of Vassal King of Han and the fiefdom of Mount Changhan...

I'll thank you in advance on behalf of Fu Yao.

I wouldn't hold back from rewarding the best to Fu Yao.

I just didn't expect you to step forward to ask for a reward on her behalf.

You made it seem like I cast her aside after using her.

Who would think that?

I was just offering her a present through you.

I have a question.

You snatched all of Mount Changhan from me discreetly.

Your Highness, are you taking precautions against me?

You've been to Mount Changhan.

That place is actually linked to Qiongcang in various ways.

As Crown Prince of Tianquan

I hope that no one and no force ruins the political balance

in the five kingdoms, of course.

Certainly, after going through so much together

I have great trust in your temper and disposition.

But across the five kingdoms, there's no lack of schemers.

I can't trust those people.

There isn't much I can do now.

Separating Mount Changhan from Tiansha Kingdom

is just a way to prevent any possible conflict and war.

Of course, Mount Changhan is where you and Fu Yao shared weal and woe.

It has a special significance to her.

It does to me too.

I'm really glad...

that you aren't my opponent.

Likewise.

General--

My King.

What did you call me?

I still prefer that you address me as General.

Yes, General!

General.

What brings him here?

What should I do?

Everyone in the palace is to stay alert.

Enhance palace security by 2,000 soldiers.

Anyone without a decree or badge must be held back.

Carry this task out personally.

Make sure that no one lets their guard down.

Yes!

Pull over.

What's the matter, Miss?

Do I look pretty?

You do. You look like you walked out of a painting.

You've usually dressed in Qiongye Tribe's outfit.

We were worried that Tiansha's outfit might not fit you.

After all, our colors are a bit plain.

Who knew it would suit you so well?

You look even prettier than any of the consorts in the palace.

Why don't we keep going towards Wintry Hall?

No, I'd like to go there by myself.

But your eyes...

It's precisely because I'm blind that I should walk on my own.

I don't wish to rely on someone all my life just to get around.

Even if I trip and fall, and get all bruised up

I have to walk on my own.

You won't be able to help me.

Besides, I've walked down this path many times before.

Don't worry.

General.

General.

Everything is ready.

We'll send more soldiers over to Xihua Palace.

The Queen Dowager is attended to by those we can trust.

You needn't worry.

Don't make this known to everyone.

Otherwise, my mother may worry.

Bei Ye!

Mother.

Have you seen Ya Lan Zhu these past few days?

I didn't get to see her yet.

What's the matter?

You want to see her?

She would often visit me before.

But I haven't seen her lately.

She's lively, she must be with Fu Yao.

Let her be then.

It's been so hard on her lately.

However...

she has become a lot more mature.

I've grown to like her even more.

It's good that Mother likes her.

Bei Ye, there's something I wish to remind you of.

Mother, do tell.

Now that everything is settled and Tiansha Kingdom is doing well

your father can finally rest in peace.

But I know there's still much left for you to do.

The first is to reward those who contributed

and appease the people.

I know you've already done so.

The second is... you should consider your marriage now.

You're not so young anymore.

You can't be single forever.

As for this matter, I have yet to give it any thought.

There's much to be done after a new king is crowned.

Tiansha just suffered a battle.

You shouldn't just think of yourself in terms of the actions you take.

The nation and our people need a joyous occasion to celebrate.

You're King of Tiansha.

You mustn't be as hesitant as you once were.

I'll keep this in mind.

Someone suddenly came to mind.

Some time ago, when you snuck into the palace to see me

there was a girl who came with you.

Her name is Fu Yao.

So it was her.

She is such a courageous child.

She's also loyal to her friends.

She's a lovely lady indeed.

Indeed.

If it weren't for her, I couldn't have made it out of Mount Changhan alive.

You're fond of her.

I can tell even if you don't tell me.

Yes.

When we were in Taiyuan Kingdom

I even pledged to myself that I'd marry no one but her.

But things have changed.

Fu Yao's loyalty and righteousness are unparalleled.

She is my close friend and comrade.

We shared weal and woe.

She's a comrade I'd never betray.

I'm grateful that the gods are so kind to me.

They sent me another lovely girl.

Are you referring to... Ya Lan Zhu?

Although she isn't considered clever and she's sometimes a bit of a fool

during the time we spent together

she never once left my side, however frightened she was

or however difficult things were. She followed my lead.

She's done too much for me.

Who knew that a stubborn mule like you would finally give in to her affection?

She loves me so deeply.

I'll never let her down.

Mother, please consent to my marriage with Ya Lan Zhu.

Get up quickly.

Bei Ye, I'm so happy to hear you say that.

But... she has lost her eyesight.

Will the Royal Court accept such a queen?

How will you face the officials should they object to her?

She lost her eyesight in order to save my life.

Without her, there wouldn't be a new Yongji Reign.

If anyone picks on her for not looking presentable

or says she's unfit to be queen

I, Zhan Bei Ye, am unfit to be a king.

That's a true son of the Zhan family.

Why did you just get here now?

Almost all of the guests have arrived.

You're the last ones.

Where's Zhu Zhu?

Isn't she with you?

No, I haven't seen her all day.

What? I'll keep looking for her then.

Head in, quickly.

This...

This is the palace of Tiansha.

What could possibly go wrong?

Who would lay a finger on Zhan Bei Ye's woman?

He's not to be trifled with.

Who's not to be trifled with?

It's nothing.

What are you chatting about?

Have you seen Ya Lan Zhu?

Isn't she with you?

General!

Both Yixiu Gate and Huadi Gate were broken into.

- He's here. - Didn't I tell you to enhance security?

- Why can't you keep him out? - He didn't want to fight with us.

He vanished with a few stances.

Find him immediately.

Report to me if there's any news.

Yes!

General, this letter was just received.

Who is it?

I know where Ya Lan Zhu is.

Keep an eye on the palace for me.

I'll return shortly.

I'll go with you!

You can't meddle in this matter.

Why?

Who exactly are you? Put me down!

Just come at me if you want!

What kind of man are you to sneak up on me?

Who sent you?

Are you going to harm Fifth Brother?

Listen up! When he finds you, he'll feed you to the hawks!

You'll cry for help and no one will come!

You got one thing right.

I did come for that nasty chap, Zhan Bei Ye.

Now that I have you, this nasty lass with me

I won't have to worry that Zhan Bei Ye will disobey me!

Are you going to threaten Fifth Brother?

Don't you dare dream of it! I'll kill myself now so you can't do it!

You mustn't!

Stop it!

How can you behave like this?

I'm Zhan Bei Ye's mentor!

Stop biting! Stop it!

His mentor?

Are you saying that Zhan Bei Ye's mentor took Ya Lan Zhu away?

It must be.

Wasn't there an emblem on the envelope?

The emblem of Tiansha's royal family?

Yes.

But it also isn't.

Whoever uses that emblem is closely related to the royal family.

I think that person must be born of a prestigious family

and is highly skilled in martial arts.

You could figure out that it was Zhan Bei Ye's mentor with just that?

Zhan Bei Ye ordered Ji Yu to enhance security in the palace.

But he only fortified the palace gates.

That means he just wanted to keep this person out.

Judging by the abrasions on Ji Yu's face

it indicates that whoever barged in never intended to hurt anyone.

Zhan Bei Ye, Ji Yu, and Eunuch Hua all seem to think alike

and know what is going on.

Then there's only one possibility.

They're all acquainted with that highly skilled warrior.

So it's Zhan Bei Ye's mentor.

Zhan Bei Ye's mentor is really weird.

He insisted on breaking in instead of entering through the main gate.

Why has he taken Ya Lan Zhu away?

Do you remember the Ten Saints of the five kingdoms I told you about?

I do.

Zhangsun Ping Rong's mentor was one of them.

He's called...

Xing Hui Sacred Fist?

Among the Ten Saints, Xing Hui Sacred Fist is a small fry.

As for Zhan Bei Ye's mentor, he's ranked in the top three.

You seem like quite a dainty young lady.

So why are you so heavy?

You almost wore me out.

Speak.

How exactly are you related to Fifth Brother?

I'm warning you.

If you dare to play any tricks, Fifth Brother is ferocious!

Is your Fifth Brother ferocious?

Listen.

Your Fifth Brother is ferocious, my ass!

Let go.

No.

- Let go. - No, I won't!

Let go and we'll talk nicely, all right?

Go ahead.

Were you born in the year of the dog?

You gave me such a bad bite.

The story has to start from Old Master Zhou's death.

Before Old Master Zhou passed away

he kept asking me to train Zhan Bei Ye as my disciple

and teach him martial arts.

It was a moment of folly, but I actually agreed to it.

But I have to say that Zhan Bei Ye didn't disappoint me.

He was born to be trained in martial arts.

He could also endure hardship well.

But I...

I just don't like him.

He is such a bore!

He doesn't even say a word all day!

As his mentor, I almost died of boredom!

He didn't even try to come up with something to cheer me up.

That's why he's no fun at all!

Oh...

You're saying that you're Fifth Brother's mentor.

Am I right?

Fifth Brother told me that his mentor is remarkably skilled in martial arts

good-looking, and charming!

That is quite true.

It's true?

Could I get a feel of that handsome face of yours then?

I can't see.

This...

- Just once then? - Just once.

All right.

Let go! Let go of my ear!

All right, I'm sorry.

Mentor, I didn't mean it.

You know that I can't see.

If you weren't blind, I'd surely hold it against you!

You're right.

Since you say that you're Fifth Brother's mentor...

why do you want to harm him?

What?

"Harm him?"

I'm just trying to help him.

I'm helping him, understand?

That little rascal, Zhan Bei Ye, is such a bore.

He's going to get married soon.

If he marries a woman who's also a bore, how will that do?

As his mentor, I have to filter the candidates for him.

What do you mean?

You want to know what that means?

We'll talk about it when you wake up tomorrow!

Lei Dong has been spending the past few years in the mountains.

He's naturally unsociable.

He's unrestrained by convention.

He never plays by the book.

Although Zhan Bei Ye is his disciple, they differ greatly in temperament.

So Lei Dong really is a wild card.

This is bad.

Zhan Bei Ye surely can't defeat him.

He can't suppress him either, as the King of Tiansha.

What should he do?

I think... Lei Dong doesn't intend to harm anyone.

It might be good for Ya Lan Zhu and Zhan Bei Ye that he's so unreasonable.

I hope so.

Ever since Ya Lan Zhu became blind, she's a completely different person.

Although she doesn't admit it

I can tell that she has started to look down on herself.

She has followed Zhan Bei Ye all along.

Even the dangers and threats to her life didn't hold her back

but now...

she has begun to flinch.

Are you worried that Ya Lan Zhu finds herself unworthy of Zhan Bei Ye?

After going through so much, Zhan Bei Ye is longer who he used to be.

Now he knows what he should do and what he really wants.

I understand that.

But does Ya Lan Zhu understand?

That's why I say that it may be a good opportunity

for Ya Lan Zhu since Lei Dong has abducted her.

All right now.

Stop thinking about it.

You said that Lei Dong ranks third.

Who are the top two Ten Saints?

Sheng Ling ranks second.

But for some unknown reason

he retired from the five kingdoms long ago.

When I was in Qiongcang, I looked up scrolls on the Ten Saints.

But there isn't much written about him.

Hardly anyone has met him.

What about the best of the Ten Saints?

Judging by that reaction... are you going to say that it's you?

The best of the Ten Saints is my...

my Supreme Master in Qiongcang.

I don't think being the best or the toughest warrior in the world matters.

What matters is that we can all get together.

Drink when there's wine.

That's the greatest joy in life.

Honestly...

I really hope that Ya Lan Zhu and Zhan Bei Ye...

can be happy together.

So do I.

I hope that all those in love don't have to suffer much hardship

and can be together happily.

When did you become so sentimental?

Find her.

Otherwise, the five kingdoms will be cast into eternal doom because of her!

What's on your mind?

Such quiet times are always too short.

Young Master! Young Master!

Young Master!

Someone left you a letter in your room.

The emblem looks so familiar.

The official emblem of Xuanji Kingdom.

It's a variation of the royal emblem.

All letters from Xuanji Kingdom are stamped with this emblem.

It's hard to tell who sent it.

A coded letter from Xuanji?

Look at you, you're a young lady.

All you do is lie in bed all day.

Look at how chubby you are!

If I put a tail on you, you'll turn into a pig.

Although that little rascal, Zhan Bei Ye, isn't very lovable

he is at least a klutz.

No, I mean king.

As his woman, you should at least be gentle and virtuous.

You should assist your husband and raise children.

You should obey your husband and act according to morals.

Look at you.

This won't do.

So I'll have to teach you properly.

You... you're going to teach me?

Exactly!

We'll start with sewing and embroidery.

Embroider something today.

When I have the time, I'll hire a seamstress to instruct you.

What's this? I won't learn this!

How can you not learn this?

When you become Bei Ye's wife

what if you can't even patch his clothes up when they're torn?

Won't he be laughed at?

I can't see anything!

You're making a blind person learn embroidery?

You... you're obviously making fun of me!

So what if you're blind?

Who said that you can't learn embroidery if you're blind?

You can learn it slowly!

I won't!

I have already drafted your itinerary.

Day one, learn embroidery.

Day two, learn culinary skills.

Day three, learn musical instruments. Memorize "Admonitions for Women."

Day four, learn etiquette.

I don't want to!

Your opinion doesn't count!

My opinion counts!

If you don't do needlework today, I--

Don't you dream... don't you dare dream of leaving this place!

Fine, I won't leave then!

- Let go of me! - You won't leave the room?

Leave the room!

I won't learn it!

You-- You...

Nasty lass!

Did you kill the man who sells salt?

You can't play it like that!

Wake up.

We have to memorize some texts today.

I'll read one sentence and you'll repeat after me.

Do you understand?

Do you understand?

Louder!

I understand!

Repeat after me.

"Let a woman retire late to bed, but rise early to duties."

"Let her nor dread tasks by day or by night."

"Let a woman retire early to bed, but rise late to duties."

"Let her nor dread tasks by day or by night."

"Let her not refuse to perform domestic duties, easy or difficult."

"That which must be done tidily and systematically."

Mentor, I'm so sleepy.

I'll take a nap.

Hey!

What do you mean by this?

You're just a nasty lass that nasty chap brought home!

You're both just as bad!

You taught him well.

You're so childish.

You just quit whenever you want.

You even cry all day long.

You're just like some spiteful woman!

Simply judging by your attitude, you're not good enough for Zhan Bei Ye.

Not to mention, you're even blind!

So what if I'm blind!
