Chevelle's, '55 Chevy's.

It's got a 421 in it.

and these are the things

he's got left to show for what
he's done in his life.

I want to smell it but I
don't want to touch it.

I have never taken
one of my dad's cars.

just thought "this guy

makes some bad ass stuff!"

I wanted to come meet you
out here about the

deal on that car.

It's a '28 Buick.

It's rusted to all hell.

The wood's been eaten
out by termites.

It's in dismal condition.

So 1928 was a big
year for Buicks.

Mobsters loved these cars.

They used them during
prohibition to run alcohol

from city to city.

The problem with the
Buick's is they got wood.

When you find an old
Buick, often times they're

just collapsed.

Quarter panels, roofs,
everything fall apart.

That's because of
the wooden structure.

I bought that car three
years ago and it's just

been sitting
out there and

- There's a lot of things

about them that are
rough, but you know what?

Bring it on.

I mean, that's
why I'm here, man.

bringing this '20's car

back to life.

This Buick is really

I've never built an
electric car before.

This is my first time.

My father-in-law, Larry
Goodman, and I developed

an electronic parking
brake and I thought that

was the perfect
opportunity to build an

electric car.

The next question is,
how much do you think

it's gonna cost?

Budget wise, I think
you're gonna be up around

35 grand to get the car
completely done up,

you know what I mean?

The right way.

I'd be happy...15, 16.

I don't want to break your
balls or anything because

I know there's a lot
that has to go into this.

The problem is with a 15
or 16 thousand dollar car

that's exactly what
you're going to get.

I mean, you are
representing your

business, I want to
give you a good product.

Of course.

And when you roll it in to
SEMA or some of these big

shows that you're going
to represent your company

with, you're going to be
damn proud of this car and

it's gonna make you money.

Believe me.

SEMA's the biggest car
show basically in the world.

That's where I'm going to
take this thing first and

be able to show everybody
in the hot rod community

exactly what we built
here and showcase the

electronic parking
brake in the coolest

way possible.

I'll do it for 29 grand.

That's the
cheapest I can go.

You got to think there's
thousands of parts.

That 12 to 15 is just
electric motor and batteries.

I mean there's 4 thousand
dollars in batteries.

at the rail yard,

These old cars,
the GM cars,

had a lot of internal wood.

The doors, the door
frames, everything was

based on wood.

These cars, back in the
20s, came with wooden

spoke wheels, so that
tells you how close to a

wagon they were.

This car has a lot
of termite damage.

So this is the wood that
came out of the interior

of the car.

You can see this
is fully rotted.

Structurally, it's no
good, and you can see by

this - This is actually
part of the floor.

The E-stop is an
electronic emergency brake.

So this is our
parking brake.

So here's the
mechanical part of it.

Put her in park.

Boop!

Press the button.

These guys, you guys
smashed a lot of them.

But I think that we got
enough males

and females in here that

stripping the body.

The doors, the metal looks
really good and it comes

down to bare metal really
quickly, but the rest of

the car, the metal's
in really poor shape.

So this is taking way
longer than we thought.

working cause it's

clogging up every
sander that there is.

You know, it's got a good
scale on there,

it just will not come off.

So now we've ruined a
hundred dollar worth of

f�cking grinding disks
trying to fix it.

Normally I don't take rust
off sh�t but because the

doors were already
primered on this thing

I had to make it
all look the same.

It's just too expensive.

It's taking too much time.

Well this is going to take
forever and we're already

a day into this sh�t and
we got this much done.

I'm a painter by trade and
typically what we'd do on

this car is we'd sand it
down, do the body work,

put some high billed
primer on there.

This car's a little
bit different.

We realized after a couple
hours of sanding, doing

different parts that it
wasn't going to go any

further so we ended
up painting the car.

What we're gonna do now is
come back with a bunch of

highlights and details.

You know, it's not
gonna be perfect.

We don't want it
to look perfect.

We want the car
to look aged.

I'm gonna highlight some
of the body lines now,

so it more or less looks,
makes it look like it's

older than what it is.

We looked around for
batteries,

electric motors, controllers.

How much?

Are you kidding me?

For a battery?

Damn, dude.

It was gonna be so much
money, it was actually

cheaper to go out
and buy a donor car.

Okay, so let's get going
on this electric car today.

I wanna get uh, start
getting some measurements

for the interior.

We need to get that
electric car here right

away, so can start
tearing into it.

They have an electric car
club here, so they have

several people here in
town that have electric cars.

I got a lead on a car.

It's a whole moving,
working, full-blown

electric car, and it's
already, you know,

it's conversion.

It's the same kit
we were gonna buy.

components that we need to

I put in this fantastic
blue mould builder to form

a hand that is
see-through and awesome.

it's ripped out where the key
way actually turns the

wheel to make the car
drive and it's just a

really bad spot
for it to break.

we've given this thing a
creepy cool paint job,

but with just a day left

we've run into all

It's a major problem.

basically was broken.

I'm going to make a piece
that fits down in there

and then I'm going to go
in there and back it up

with a bunch of mig-weld
and wire and feed it in

there, pre-heat it
so it goes in good.
