(Katherine) Six weeks ago, eight up and coming jewelers

entered the "All That Glitters" workshop.'

I'm gonna crack on and smash it.

Each week, they took on two tough challenges.

Jewelry is so tense.

I thought you are just buying jewelry.

(Katherine) Using some of the world's most precious materials..

It looks like a slice of watermelon.

'...to make pieces that could last centuries.'

This is gonna be treasured, handed down generations.

Aw.

(Katherine) Judged by two of the biggest names in the business.

Jewelry maker to the stars, Shaun Leane..

What would you be excited to see from the jewelers?

Sexiness.

...and world renowned jewelry designer

Solange Azagury-Partridge

I don't think it's very original.

(Katherine) One by one, the jewelers were sent home.

If you gonna go out, go out in flames.

Now, just three are left to battle it out.

You can be very brutal, you know?

Facing two final challenges to create a best seller..

This is so nerve-racking!

(Katherine) And of the spokes piece for a special client.

I want them all.

But who will truly sparkle

and become "All That Glitters" Champion?

Keep going. Don't give up.

And the winner is..

(Katherine) For the past six weeks

Birmingham's historic jewelry quarter

has been our home and battle ground.

Now, the finalists face two last tests.

You know, I don't think it has quite sunk in

uh, that this is the final.

I think all of us wanted that. We will win that

st.. uh, title.

There is nothing to lose and I have to go for it.

(Tamara) I've got to give it my best shot.

[Hugo sighs] Here we go again.

(Katherine) This is the last opportunity the finalists have

to show the judges that they can create jewelry

with mass appeal.

This is the best seller.

Good morning, three finalists.

Ah!

It's deeply emotional because when you came in

you were young, innocent

'naive to the ways of the "All that glitters" workshop.'

And now I see your battered fingers

'wizened hands and broken finger nails'

but a glint in each of your eyes that says

I'm going to take this.

'Your first challenge is The Best Seller challenge.'

And we are giving you one of the most ancient

natural and beautiful materials in the whole world.

Pearls!

'And we'd like you to make some stunning'

Pearl drop earrings.

Shaun and Solange, over to you.

Your earrings must feature at least one pearl.

They can be made of yellow, rose or white gold.

You can use additional stones and pearls for your earrings.

But I'd like to see something fresh and innovative

and for you to take tradition and subvert it.

(Shaun) Now this is the final. Only perfection will do.

I'll be looking for technical excellence and beauty.

We wanna see something beautiful

that reflects the light and grabs attention.

Think my cheek bones.

We want you to make your authentic voice shine through

but remember this is The Best Seller challenge.

So, your pearl drop earrings must sell, sell, sell.

You have five hours and that time starts now.

- Good luck. - Good luck.

- Good luck. - Thank you.

Okay, let's make some earrings.

[instrumental music]

Where are the butterflies? I left them at the door?

Now, yeah, I'm in game mood right now.

(Katherine) Pearl drop earrings are designed to catch the light

showing off the pearl's sheen

known as it's luster.

(Tamara) 'I just got to really stay focused.'

Stay true myself with the design as well.

(Katherine) Made from nacre the substance molluscs use

to protect themselves against irritants like sand

the average size pearl takes about a year to form.

(Daniel) I'm really excited t-to get on

with this challenge, but I'm also little bit apprehensive

what if the judges don't like it?

I'm really putting everything

I can into this, I'm really hoping

it goes down well.

What exactly is a pearl drop earring?

A pearl drop earring is just exactly what it says.

It's a, it's a, it's a pearl that drops from the ear.

But it's the way they hang it from the ear.

What're they gonna do to make it interesting

'and modern and not traditional?'

What could go wrong?

(Solange) 'Well, the setting of a pearl'

'is quite tricky.'

You know, gravity is not pearl's friend

because, you know, it needs to be really held securely.

Most gem stones are meant to be seen from the surface.

Whereas pearl needs to be seen all the way around.

'So, what're they gonna do to make it interesting?'

That's why it's such a good challenge.

How're you and Shaun going to decide

who's walking away with the "All That Glitters" trophy?

By this point, they need to be technically proficient.

Which they are.

But now, it needs to go beyond that.

We need to see some stand out designs from them.

Where's me pearls?

(Katherine) For their earrings, the jewelers have been given

12 grams of gold, a selection of gem stones

and the choice of round or flat pearls.

I believe a good jeweler should use pearls.

Because it's the test of their design capability.

They are the softest gem stone in our industry.

So, one has to be really clever and careful

about how you attach a pearl to a piece of jewelry.

(Katherine) For his final best seller, Hugo has decided

to catch the eye of the judges with some color.

These are the pearls I've decided to go for. Pink pearls.

(Katherine) These pink pearls will be suspended

in between two mirrored and textured peaks

that will be bezel set with two white

and two cognac colored diamonds.'

[instrumental music]

From Hayward's Heath, Hugo has always stood out

for his technical skill.

But he has often struggled to hit the brief.

Particularly in The Best Seller.

It looks decorative But it's not chain color.

(Katherine) But his bold and intricate designs

have won him the accolade of Jeweler of the Week twice.

Hugo!

Hugo is very very outgoing

very loving, very caring

But when it comes to work

you can't talk to him, you can't disturb him.

He's very serious.

I'm unbelievably proud of Hugo.

'Cause he's worked so hard. He always works hard.

He maybe be the youngest, but he deserves it, I think.

- Mr. Hugo. - Hello.

So, tell me about your idea.

This design sort of evolved around

'like a natural sort of form.'

'So, mountains, jagged edges'

'and I wanna sort of like texture it'

and have like a sound fit edge.

So, that would be polished and I then wanna texture the top

with diamond scattered over the top

like, as if it was like sort of snow.

So, you've got the contrast

for the smooth round pearl

'and the very jagged mountains.'

Yes, it's gonna hang almost as if it was in like a frame.

Like a picture frame kind of thing.

And how do you feel that you've developed?

I feel like, I've definitely sort of developed

my designing skills, I've tried to take everything

you guys have sort of thrown at me on board.

Um, and I must say like

y-you do remind me a lot of my mother.

You can be very brutal, you know?

You're a hard working and a dedicated boy.

- So, that's credit to her. - Yes. Thank you.

- Thanks for the comparison. - No, no.

It just made me laugh a little bit.

[laughs] I was trying to get flashbacks.

[laugh]

(Katherine) Like Hugo, Dan has chosen a more

traditional shaped pearl.

(Daniel) I'm just gonna use two sort of a classic

round pearls for each, uh, for each earring.

But I'm gonna sort of encapsulate them in my fluid

sort of, uh, water style, uh, water, pearls.

Hey, that goes together, doesn't it?

(Katherine) Dan is using white and yellow gold

to form his fluid pieces

before texturizing them and setting them

with small diamonds.

Dan is from Frome

and has been making other people's designs

for over 20 years.

The judges have always been impressed

with his technical skills, but pushed him

to discover his own style.

Do you feel you're expressing yourself?

Um...I think so. I think so.

Yeah. I've been thinking about that loads.

And I think I'm over thinking it.

(Katherine) But his designs have proved

popular with the bespoke clients.

He is the only jeweler whose pieces have chosen twice.

Dan.

I definitely had faith that Dan will get this far up.

I don't know if he had faith in himself getting this far.

He's pretty laid back really.

He doesn't really take himself too seriously.

I think Dan's work is brilliant, and actually, I'm very lucky

that I get to try out some pieces

before he makes them for anybody else.

So.. I'm wearing a few.

So, one is my wedding and engagement ring.

Aw, it'll amazing if he won. I don't know quite how I'd react.

[chuckling]

- Dan. - Hello.

Hi, made it to the final.

I'm in the final. Very exciting.

Are you excited to get back to your regular schedule?

I'm kind of looking forward to getting back

to a bit of normality, actually.

Have you worked with pearls before?

'It's not something I work with very often.'

But actually, designing this I-I've got quite excited

with t-the fluid lines and the pearls

seems to work really well together.

Well, Dan, I would love to see you excel in this final.

I think, the one thing that judges

are sometimes not sure about your authentic voice.

I want to impress them this time I really want to impress them.

- Come on, Dan, dig deep. - Dig deep.

Show them Dan. Take your shirt off, you know?

(Katherine) Tamara is the only jeweler using baroque

or irregular shaped pearls.

I've gotten these very natural

keshi pearls.

Which is just a type of pearl.

As you can see

they're all very, very different and unique from one another.

(Shaun) 'Good morning, Tamara.'

- 'Hello, Shaun.' - So, tell me about your piece.

(Tamara) 'I'm drilling through the pearls'

and their all going to be linked together with fine wire.

So, again I'm seeing a fearless move here

from you Tamara.

- You're drilling into the pearl - Yeah.

Because it's part of the structure.

They're quite flat pearls

so, I'm going to use them almost like a canvas

'and decorate each pearl'

with very fine detailed gold and sapphire elements.

So you're actually going to embellish the pearl

with gold and stones.

(Katherine) Tamara lives in London.

And has always been true to her signature organic style.

Often taking risks to prove herself.

But regularly being beaten by the clock.

You haven't done what you set out to do.

'Which is why perhaps the finish is not as great as it could be.'

(Katherine) But her gambles more often than not paid off.

And the judges awarded her Jeweler of the Week twice.

- Tamara! - Yeah, yeah!

Thank you, thank you.

I love Tamara's designs, I see things in them

that I don't see other people doing.

They just seem perfect. She's not following any trends.

She is setting her own agenda.

And what she come out with it i-is astonishing, I think.

I think, Tamara wins "All That Glitters"

it's gonna be a really big boost for her.

I'll try not to cry, I think.

[chuckling]

(Katherine) To create her best selling earrings

Tamara's whole design rests

on taking yet another big risk.

First job of the day is drilling my pearls.

to make sure I can get the wire through.

(Katherine) The heat from the drill could burn the pearl's luster.

And if Tamara doesn't have a steady hand

she could scratch or even shatter

the only pearl she has.

This is so nerve-racking!

[intense music]

I'm dipping the drill bit in water

to keep the drill bit cool.

[drill whirring]

'You do have to be a bit gentle with them.'

[drill whirrs]

[sighs]

Oh, that's done!

[instrumental music]

(Katherine) Dan and Hugo's pearls already have

a small hole drilled into them.

But to hold them securely in place requires the jewelers

to make a cup for them to sit in.

So, I'm gonna be careful with that.

The casing is exactly in line w-with the pearls

so that once I put the pearl on

it doesn't scratch the side or anything.

Because there'll be no kinda hiding that once the pearl's on.

(Katherine) But it's not just the cup that keeps the pearl in place.

(Dan) I just need to put a little pin in the middle of that

so not only is it glued into its cap

it's also got a pin inside

which is glued as well. Which makes it really firm.

(Katherine) Unless the pin is perfectly soldered

at best the pearl will be off center.

At worst, the pearl could fall off.

(Dan) Oh, you rotten little toad!

So hard with shaky hands.

[intense music]

That was tricky.

Each little bit could go so wrong.

And you just get a little sigh of relief when it goes okay.

- Hugo, my friend. - Yes.

Tell me this. Are you going to win the final?

In this cross, t-t-that's the aim, that's the goal.

You know, um, I just hope it's, uh

it's what it takes to, for my piece to win.

What's your plan after the competition?

I've got some plans after the competition, you know.

I've got some projects that I'm working on.

Um, it's not gonna be a case of you know

sit back and relax, you know.

I think there's a nice solitude to what you jewelers do.

And we've come and disrupted it so..

When you get back to workshop, I'll need to video chat you

and ask you loads of questions about your life.

- You are more than welcome. - 'You know?'

Just video chat, "Hugo, how's your mom?"

"Hugo, how will your mother feel if you win?"

I look forward to it. I look forward to it.

(Katherine) To prove they deserve the title

of the "All That Glitters" champion

the judges are expecting the jewelers to show

as many skills as possible.

(Tamara) I'm gonna make a piece of gold.

that's going to kinda echo the shape of the pearl.

And I'm sort of melting it and forging it.

That is the theory.

It's whether it works. Who knows?

(Katherine) Hammering malleable metal like gold

requires the utmost precision.

[hammering]

[gasps]

[hammering]

Ah!

Um, I was hammering a piece of gold

and it just pinged out.

- Yeah, we've got loads of time. - Yeah, right. Pfft.

Did you not listen for it?

I had my ear defenders on, didn't I.

- I know, it could be anywhere. - How big is it?

About as big as that.

- Pow, pow! - Wow.

'How can I ever thank you?'

- By losing? - Yeah, try losing.

[laughing]

[sighs] Calm down.

Sort it out.

(Katherine) To build on the setting skills, they showed in previous

all three finalists are setting gem stones.

You wanna make sure the table

which is the top surface of the stone

is running level with the metal.

Last thing I wanna do is like rush

when it comes to like setting stones

'Cause I know that's one thing, like, for sure

Shaun's gonna be looking at with a loupe

you know, he's always got that loupe.

So, I'm gotta make sure the settings

'gonna be on point.'

(Tamara) I've got to force the metal over this tiny sapphires

and I don't want to damage the metal.

They're so tiny.

[instrumental music]

(Katherine) In a previous challenge

Dan struggled to set his gem stones

to the judges' exacting standards.

So, I'm just setting five one millimeter diamonds

down the inside, j-just for a little splash of diamond

you know, it's nice to have it in there.

- Hi, Shaun. - How you doing?

I'm okay. Gonna try again with the diamonds.

Uh, I've got my microscope.

to try and do a little bit.

- Brilliant. - I just couldn't see last time.

So, hopefully that will.. Now I've got no excuses.

Well, we're at that age, aren't we?

We're of that age now we need a microscope.

- You know? - I'm sorry. Yep, yep, yep.

And as a course man in a designer

have you learned anything on the journey?

I've learned that I wanna spend a lot more time

making my own stuff, a-and stop, you know..

Just devote a lot more time to makin' my own pieces.

I have high expectations and real hopes for you, Dan.

Cheers, Shaun. Yeah.

I am determined to do a much better

quality finish this time.

It's so bloody fiddly.

For the next ten minutes the world is your oyster.

[instrumental music]

Starting to shake a lil' bit.

These are not gonna be finished. I know they're not.

Keep going. Don't give up.

Little super glue.

Right, how long does it take to dry?

Oh, sweet.

Rapid!

All I need to do is glue just the pearls.

Bang them on.

[instrumental music]

Mixin' up my glue.

Um, and then I'm just gonna put a little bit

on each of my pins, stick those pearls on.

I'm hoping it will be stuck pretty tight, really quick.

'Cause we don't have long.

(Katherine) To complete her design Tamara needs to solder

the ear wire to her piece.

But exposing a pearl to naked flame

could burn it's luster.

This is a very tricky, tricky, tricky bit.

Because I'm soldering with pearls in place.

And this blue stuff is called thermogel.

Which means, it absorbs the heat.

Prevents the heat getting to the pearl.

See that bit of wire poking out?

I'm gonna solder the ear wire on that.

[intense music]

Ugh! Come on.

Everything..

So last minute. I hate it!

[sighs] For God sakes, Tam!

[sighs]

Let's try it again.

Is it not taking properly?

Well, I'm just panicking.

- Obviously. - 'Don't panic.'

But that actually worked just then

while I was talking to you.

Good. Do you want me to stay then?

Stay and be my lucky mascot, Katherine?

Okay. That one's on. Perfect, perfect.

I think, I may actually, maybe

just maybe, get them finished.

Two minutes remaining, jewelers.

This is your two-minute call.

Alright, quick.

Don't panic.

[machine whirring]

Prayed to every God..

...that there ever was in the whole wide world

'that I get these finished.'

Right there, right there is tight art.

Do you feel like making them as an aphrodisiac.

- No. - No.

Quick final clean.

I want to get these sides all polished up.

[instrumental music]

Needs to be a bit shorter.

How wicked, I'm really.. I'm blown away by

how beautiful these are, and I made them myself.

This doesn't happen very often, by the way.

I hope they like them though.

- Yeah. - It's gonna be fine.

Three! Two! One!

'That is your final'

best seller challenge complete.

[applauding]

(Katherine) 'Congratulations.'

God, another one done.

Glad that's over.

[chuckling]

[sighs] Honestly, it was..

- Did you set diamonds in yours? - Yeah.

Oh, my lord, Dan. Those are amazing.

Hugo!

Oh, those are good! What a design.

You show off.

[laughs]

(Katherine) After five hours the finalists have finished

their last ever Best Seller Challenge.

But who's created desirable, wearable pearl drop earrings

subverting tradition and in their own unique style?

Hugo, it's really beautiful

the way you've made the pearl dangle.

There's something so special about earrings that move.

And not only will the pearl bring luster to your face

but so will this movement.

And you've assembled it really well.

I would say, y-your hook is a bit short.

So, t-they feel a bit precarious

they feel like they might fall out.

Anyway, I think you've done a really lovely job.

Thank you, thank you.

(Shaun) I really liked the concept of the mountain

'and then it mirroring on the bottom.'

I haven't seen a design like this before.

Yeah. And I've been in the industry 35 years.

So, that's quite nice. It's quite refreshing for me.

Those two stones down there are different color.

- They're cognac and diamonds. - And diamonds. Yeah, yeah.

Yet nice.

So, under closer inspection..

Very well executed.

That is.. That's made my day.

That's great to hear. Thank you.

(Katherine) 'Oh, this is gonna be stunning.'

I mean, that's a good weight.

Movement's nice.

And actually every element of it is easy to reproduce.

So, you could take each part

and cast it, and then assemble it

'So, it would be most definitely a best seller.'

- Well done. - 'Thank you very much.'

- 'Thank you. Thank you.' - Well done, Hugo.

[instrumental music]

(Shaun) I love the delicacy which is so very you.

And you set a little blue sapphire in there.

On a technical...level

I think what's exceptional actually is..

...you've taken quite a large drill to one these pearls

and that's a risk, that whole top

could've come off of that pearl.

- So, that was brave. - You know me.

So, they have a real dreamy quality

They're like little clouds in the sky.

That's a lovely detail with a little bit of gold moving.

The hook.. I quite like the pearl

to hang directly from the ear lobe

but because you've made a detail of that, that works.

They look really Bohemian and very feminine, and very light.

- 'And very easy to wear.' - It feels nice.

(Solange) 'You look like an Elizabethan gentleman.'

Why thank you very much, Solange.

[laughs]

Anyway, well done there. Lovely.

Thank you.

Well done, Tamara. Are you happy with them?

They're not quite the finesse that I was hoping for in myself.

Just keep that little voice to yourself.

[laughs]

You asked me.

I asked you and I expected you to lie.

We can definitely see

your signature design coming through here.

Not only are they swinging there's movement

in the actual structure of the piece, which is beautiful.

The setting, you set these very well.

'They're very well made.'

The way you've set the diamonds there

half way out and then patinated it.

So, it looks like there are more diamonds.

You have to look a bit closer.

They're very refined and they're very lady-like.

They are a classic best seller.

And, yeah. The movement feels really nice.

- Let's see. - The weight is good.

- What do we think? - 'Hmm.'

The boy with the pearl earring?

Yeah, not bad actually. Works.

Anyway, they're beautifully made and they look lovely.

- Really well done. - Thank you.

Excellent work today, jewelers.

But I'm no expert.

I'm just a humble fitness model.

So, you'll have to come back tomorrow

and see what the judges say.

(Katherine) With the workshop to themselves for the last time'

the judges must decide which finalists have impressed

and whose lights will remain on

but also agree whose light should be switched off.

I must admit, Hugo's design is..

I've never really seen anything like that before.

He is 23 years old

and he's got that passion, that ambition

and he really shone through today, do you not think?

(Solange) He's made them really beautifully

and t-they're quite dramatic.

It's been a bit of a love-hate with the best sellers you know

but, hey, today, I feel I smashed it.

(Solange) They're really lovely. Dan's very elegant and very wearable.

And very sailable.

I'm gonna do everything I can.

I'm gonna do the best work that I can.

There's a little bit of I think, "Oh, my God

I've got to do again."

Tamara's they were really Bohemian

and refined, and very much her style.

(Shaun) She's melting gold, she's drilling pearls

she's really got that confidence

If my light was off tomorrow I would think

"Okay, I can do this. I can turn this around, again."

Of course, I definitely would love to win

"All That Glitters," I can't allow myself

to just say "Oh, I'm okay being second."

I've still got something more to prove

in the next challenge, definitely.

And they better watch out.

It's gonna be a tough decision.

(Katherine) It's the final day

and the jewelers are about to receive

a brief of huge significance.

Not only for their final client

but for their own hopes of becoming

"All That Glitters" Champion.

It's the Bespoke.

(Katherine) As a doctor in A&E

Akash has spent the last few months on the front line.

Despite his grueling experience

he wants to thank his sister Nikki

for the support she's given him behind the scenes

by commissioning something special for her wedding.

- Good morning. - Good morning.

Hello.

Welcome to the "All that Glitters" workshop.

Nikki, you have an unjust amount of hair.

[chuckles]

It's the final. A huge day for the jewelers.

What can we do for you?

So we've got bi-big Indian wedding coming up.

Um, it's was actually meant to be in a couple of weeks time.

But w-with corona virus, sort of being postponed

and at this moment of time, we don't even know

exactly when it's going to be.

Akash, tell me all about your sister.

Why does Nikki deserve this amazing wedding?

She always puts everyone else first.

And so, when I've been going through all of this, um

with hospital and just with all my colleagues around me

being really upset and all of us being really stressed

um, she's been there like talking to me

through all of this like, basically being my kind of rock

in all of this.

I just want that one moment where

like people respect how help giving she is

and how much she's been putting forward for everybody else.

That's the nicest thing you ever said to me.

So how can we help you to make this wedding outstanding?

Front and center o-o-of an Indian wedding

is the head piece, um, it's called, Maang Tikka.

I love a head piece!

Like a piece which comes comes down

your hairline and it.. sometimes it stops about here.

(Katherine) Oh, I see, so, it's supposed to bring light and focus

to your beautiful face.

And my husband will move it aside

and put a little bit of sindoor.

- Which is like a red powder. - Yeah.

And then that signifies that I'm married.

What should the jewelers be thinking about

when designing this Maang Tikka for you?

A lot of sparkle, a lot of glitter.

Where do you live?

- Essex. - Got it.

- You're sparkly, you're kind. - Oh, thank you.

Akash, your a great brother.

I know the jewelers are going to be so excited

to have you both for the final.

This is gonna be the most amazing piece.

(Katherine) But before the jewelers receive their final Bespoke brief

whose pearl earrings failed to meet the judges expectations?

If their plinth lights turned off

they'll have to raise their game

if they're to be crowned

"All that Glitters" champion.

For the first time

the judges are turning the lights off

of no one.

[sighs]

Feels good to not have the light off.

About time.

I'm really pleased that everybody's lights are on

you know, w-we're all startin' on an even keel today.

- It's gonna be really good. - Wasn't expecting it at all.

(Tamara) It's l-like some weird trick they're playing on us.

Messing with our heads on the final day.

Uh, or is it because we've all done really well?

Goes to show you how tough the competition is, you know

and it's just a case of maintaining

that standard today, and, uh, yeah

hopefully everything goes smoothly.

Jewelers, well done.

All of your plinth lights are on.

That means, we're at a level playing field for the final

and boy, do I have a very exciting bespoke challenge.

Please say hello to Nikki and Akash.

'Nikki is getting married.'

'It's going to be the biggest day of her life, so far.'

'We would like you to create'

an Indian bridal headpiece called the Maang Tikka.

It has to be stunning.

It's got to compete with this face.

(Katherine) 'Solange, tell us more.'

So we're asking you to make a lavish, opulent and grand

'piece of Indian wedding jeweler.'

It needs to be comfortable and light

as Nikki will be wearing it all day long.

You have nine karat gold to make the ornament

but the other part of the headpiece

can be made from other materials.

That's up to you.

The piece must be elegant, elaborate and emotional.

This is your final piece.

So, go for it!

(Solange) 'Good luck, all of you.'

You have five hours to complete this final challenge.

Make this one count. Good luck.

(Hugo) I've never made anything like this before.

It's gotta be classy

it's gotta be elegant, it's gotta be delicate.

(Dan) It's to go right on your forehead

so it's gonna be quite kinda showy.

A chance to go a little bit sort of

you know, bold and big.

(Katherine) For inspiration, Akash has given

the jewelers a moodboard covered in family photos

and one of the dresses Nikki will be wearing

for her upcoming wedding.

(Tamara) Akash wants to give something to his sister

that will aid her, protect her.

And he also wants to show his love, um, to her.

I'm super close to my brother.

I would imagine that he would so the same for me

if he could, um, so I get that meaning behind it, totally.

Shaun, it's the big one.

The finals.

Why is today's bespoke challenge the perfect way to end?

Here we have a Maang Tikka.

This decorates the head of the bride.

'It must compliment her'

and not be too heavy or too light.

Throughout all of their challenges

we've seen them make chains

we've seen them make pendants.

We've seen them set

forge, polish, texture.

This piece can incorporate all of those things.

It is a couture piece of jeweler.

It needs to be elaborate

it needs to be detailed, it needs to be beautiful.

They have a challenge ahead of them today

but hand on heart

I know they can all achieve this.

(Katherine) The final challenge

combines all the skills the jewelers

have been tested on so far.

They've been allowed to pre-make their chains

and for the crowning glory

they've been given 12 grams of 9 karat gold

and any precious gemstones they would like.

(Hugo) I'm gonna start with the centerpiece of mine.

It's gonna be the part of the headpiece

that's gonna be resting on the forehead.

It's almost like a little diamond-type shape.

So I'm gonna work my way from the inside-out.

(Katherine) Suspended above Hugo's ruby and diamond

gold flower centerpiece

will be a kite-shaped, rutilated quartz.

And the whole thing will hang from a pearl

studded infinity chain.

- Hugo. - Shaun, hello.

- How're you feeling? - I'm feeling good.

A little bit anxious, but excited.

- Well, it's the finals. - It is.

- You would be. - Yeah, yeah, yeah.

- Got the butterflies. - Finale.

So are we gonna see you using

all your amazing techniques into this piece?

You're gonna see, you're gonna see a few little bits in there.

- For sure, without a doubt. - Yeah?

It's gonna scream "opulence".

You know, it's gonna be elegant, delicate.

It's gonna really l-look beautiful.

This is a really beautiful, ornate couture piece.

- So, Hugo, good luck. - Yeah.

I'm really looking forward to seeing your piece later.

- Good luck. - Cheers.

(Katherine) Like Hugo, Tamara's also starting

with her Maang Tikka centerpiece

and after drilling into her pearl in the bestseller

she's not showing any signs of playing it safe.

The mother of pearl, is the most central part of the ornament.

There is a possibility, that as I'm cutting

it could chip or snap.

So, I have to sort of do this quite slowly

and take my time.

It went really well, actually.

Um, relief that now this bit's done. Yeah, huge relief.

(Katherine) Like pearls, mother of pearl is made from nacre.

But forms on the inner lining of the mollusk's shell.

And Tamara is making a claw setting to keep hers secure.

She's also bezel setting a white sapphire

before suspending both

from a pearl-studded gold chain.

(Solange) 'Tamara.'

What're you gonna do for us? What're you showing us?

The central part of the ornament is a piece of mother of pearl

but I've cut it into a very wide teardrop shape.

- That is a lovely shape. - Yeah.

And I'm using mother of pearl

because it's the symbol of protection

and also wealth, and prosperity, and luck.

And because Akash is giving this to his sister

the idea is that

he is passing on some protective energy to her.

- Brotherly love. - Brotherly love, yes.

Are you gonna stand out today, are you gonna show us

what you can do, all your skills?

I think I will stand out today.

[beeping]

Oh, you've finally got your clock on. That's good.

[laughs]

(Katherine) While Hugo and Tamara's central ornament

are being made from one piece of material..

...Dan's is made from a number of pieces.

(Dan) Oh, does that look good like that? It does!

Oh, no, it doesn't.

(Katherine) Dan is taking his love of undulating lines

to the next level.

His teardrop pearl and diamond Maang Tikka

is made up of over 20 pieces of gold waves

that will be connected by a series of gold chains.

- Hi, Dan. - Hello.

Have you made something like this before?

I made a headpiece when my wife and me got married

but it's quite a long, kind of..

...almost elven style sort of thing.

- Oh. - Hm, it was very pretty.

I'm not surprised by that.

- A frum, elven wedding. - Yeah.

(Katherine) 'Are you confident that you can win.'

because here's why I ask.

You made your wife's engagement ring.

Won that challenge.

Made your wife's headpiece.

This is another wedding-based challenge.

You know, t-there's lots going on

I'm trying to do it, I want it to be quite complicated

but kind of intricate, beautiful and delicate.

I'm trying to get lots in.

How are you aiming

to bring the emotion of this

beautiful sibling relationship

into Nikki's headpiece?

I don't really know.

- You can just blag it. - I can't-I can't blag it.

Show me what stones you're using.

- I'll do it for you. - I'm using pearls.

'But there are two central pearls.'

- Two central pearls, yeah. - Perfect.

So you say, "Judges..

"...you know, a pearl is a symbol of virtue and purity

"and when I saw Nikki, I just thought

"this is the most beautiful bride.

"And then I put another pearl next to it

"to symbolize her close relationship with her family

"Her grandmother, the brother

because family is never far from your thoughts."

- That's beautiful. - Do that.

Get invited to ten Indian weddings this year.

- Eat like a king. - Excellent.

(Katherine) There are just two and a half hours

of the final challenge remaining.

What I'm doing right now, I'm just cutting out the details

in sort of like rounded, um, scalloped shape.

I want to make sure this bit is really beautiful

so, it just needs a bit of, uh, refining with pliers.

It's gonna look really good, yeah.

(Dan) My fingers are really, really hurtin' now.

So much bending tiny things.

Ow.

(Katherine) But which jeweler's Maang Tikka

could help them claim the "All that Glitters" title.

(Katherine) Solange, no disasters so far.

Everyone seems to be very quiet.

Are they hitting the brief in there?

They're all doing something very different.

(Solange) Hugo's seems like a very traditional look

but it's gonna be very refined

he's got some lovely stones.

How about Dan?

(Solange) 'It's probably like'

a Maang Tikka I've never seen before.

He's used his fluid shapes.

It's gonna be very highly polished.

I think h-he's included some texture.

And Tamara's seems very Tamara.

Very bohemian, very ethereal.

She's really thought about the deeper meaning behind the stones

and the relationship between Nikki and her brother.

So they're all taking very different

approaches to this challenge.

(Solange) Well, I think they're trying to bring

as many of the skills that they've worked on.

And also, you know, if you don't wanna do something

that's generic or boring

you've really got to think about it.

[instrumental music]

(Katherine) To make their Maang Tikka stand out from the others

each finalist is setting gemstones

and all are trying to improve

on techniques they've used before.

Despite splitting her setting

in the engagement ring challenge

Tamara is once again about to set her gemstone

directly into molten metal.

(Tamara) 'I think it's worked.'

(Katherine) Dan is yet again attempting

to perfectly set small diamonds.

(Dan) Hoping the client will like my sparkles in there

and, uh, yeah, it might draw her eyes towards my piece.

Without them looking too closely at my stone setting.

But Shaun will be getting his loupe out, no doubt.

Have I gone like a thespian all of a sudden?

Ahh. Welcome to my room.

(Katherine) And Hugo has chosen to try and perfect a bezel setting.

I'm gonna have a stone hanging at the top here.

Like that. Just work perfectly with this, uh, design.

Uh, it complimented the shape a lot.

That's one of the main reasons why I went for it.

(Katherine) Using a bezel pusher

Hugo has to carefully press the gold

over the delicate edges

of his only rutilated quartz.

[instrumental music]

(Hugo) 'So I haven't actually worked with a stone like this before.'

Ooh.

[bleep]

(Hugo) 'I just took the corner off.'

So upsetting! That would've looked beautiful, you know.

I'm not putting that stone on there, no.

Hell no.

Yeah, I'm not letting them pick up on that.

The stone's done out here. It's finished.

(Katherine) Without a spare stone

Hugo is going to have to rethink his design.

[instrumental music]

(Katherine) The last task that the jewelers face

is the fiddliest.

Connecting all the parts of the Maang Tikka together.

If they're not held together securely

the Maang Tikka could fall apart when worn.

Oh, I've got all the other parts to do.

So many things to do, but..

(Dan) 'So I've cut all the, all the little pieces now.'

Now it's just a matter of..

...desperately trying to get them all to fit together.

I dropped one on the floor and I can't find it.

So, I'm gonna have to make another one.

And I don't know where it's gone

and I've got loads of diamonds to set.

And w-we've got very little time left.

Loads to do.

Do you know, yeah, I'm not even happy with that.

There's a little bit more solder on one side

than there was on the other.

You see, a lot of people would

just let that go out, but..

...I prefer it to be like, spot on, you know?

(Tamara) That way..

...and one that way.

Oh, a little bit over.

Mmmh.

Get off.

Fifteen minutes left, jewelers.

Fifteen minutes is better than five minutes.

So, I'm alright, I'm alright.

It's tight, but...yeah.

This is the ruby.

This is the main part, so I'm just gotta make sure

this is looking crisp, this setting.

If this isn't looking right, then it's gonna throw

the whole thing off.

Fifteen minutes. How you feeling, Dan?

Alright. Sort of.

- Dan, are you gonna finish? - I hope so.

I don't think I will.

Oh, I'm not gonna finish.

Okay.

Alright [bleep] that's a big old tangled mess, isn't it?

Oh, my lord.

This is an emotional time.

Five minutes and please get your Maang Tikkas on the plinths.

I have to cut a bit off now.

I'll do it, I'll do it.

It's tight, ugh.

Starting to shake a little bit.

- Come on. - One minute.

I've got no time.

(Dan) Oh, come on!

(Katherine) 'Ten, nine'

'eight, seven'

six, five

'four, three'

'two, one!'

I will never ask you to do anything again, congratulations!

That's your final, final, final challenge!

How'd you feel?

I d-d-don't know how to feel, mate.

(Hugo) 'What about you?'

- It's on there! - Yeah.

It's done now, do you know what I mean?

(Katherine) After five hours the jewelers have all presented

their last ever "All that Glitters" bespoke piece.

But who's met the brief by making a Maang Tikka

that's ornate and opulent

but also light and elegant enough

for Nikki to wear on her wedding day?

Hugo's done a beautiful job here.

I loved the fact he used a geometric shape

and put this really soft, curvaceous shape within sides.

'He's used diamonds and rubies, he has actually set a diamond'

north, east, south and west, which to get that straight

is quite a task and this really delicate lovely pearl

just hanging, just swinging beautifully on top of the brow.

'Really, really nice!'

It's a lovely diamond shape that he's reflected in the cap

of the pearl which I think is lovely.

He's made a beautiful piece, I think.

So, Dan's Maang Tikka is the most opulent and lavish.

'It's a piece of occasion jewelery'

'which is what we asked for'

and it's very elaborate, very striking.

For a jeweler who didn't know his signature

he's really making a stamp here, we definitely see Dan's style

'running through this, his organic fluid lines.'

Looking closer..

...there's a lot of components to this piece

'every piece has been soldered together'

knife-edged, filed, it is refined, nice setting

and then he has textured the piece further up

to give it an optical illusion that diamonds go further up.

This is a bridal piece of jewelery for sure.

This piece is very pretty, the simplicity in the setting

'that's holding that mother of pearl'

'it's actually quite pure and then the contrast'

of the sapphire set below and I think

she used her melting technique for that setting.

She likes putting mountain metals on stones, doesn't she?

'And its a really lovely round and soft affect'

on the setting edge, so there's a real delicacy to this piece.

She's a put a lot of thought behind the reasons why

she's making this piece

and she's got a lovely detail at the back

the cross over, maybe of the two souls meeting, hmm..

...I don't know if she meant that, but possibly..

'She did, she did, but very modern'

elegant, feminine, refined piece.

- Wonderful! - 'Really lovely!'

I have one criticism, couldn't we've gotten

these girls some wigs?

I got three wigs in the van, I can get them right now.

(Katherine) Before the judges decide their winner

Akash and Nikki have an equally important decision to make.

Which Maang Tikka will Nikki wear on her wedding day?

[gasps] Welcome back. You both look stunning!

- Thank you so much! - You can start on your side.

With Hugo's creation.

- 'It's really lovely.' - I know, I love it!

(Akash) 'It's like a flower in the middle.'

'This is Dan's Maang Tikka.'

(Nikki) 'It's so different from the first one.'

(Akash) 'So intricate and like, really like the detail-.'

Very delicate, I love it.

I'm so excited!

And the last one, that I have to show you.

This was created by Tamara.

'Tamara's central piece is a mother of pearl'

and that's for protection, also it offer wealth and luck.

It's so pretty and I love

what it symbolizes, that's just so sweet.

- It's really like, elegant. - Yeah!

- 'It's gonna be so difficult--' - I want them all!

Well, you'll need two additional husbands for that.

- I sure you won't mind! - Are you considering doing it?

- 'So what're you thinking?' - You know.

Each one is different and all uniquely designed.

Nikki, can you please reveal

whose bespoke creation you've chosen and why?

The piece I have chosen, as soon as I put it on

I automatically felt like a bride and I didn't realize

that this is the feeling I was gonna get, so, it made me

really emotional and I absolutely love it.

So, the piece I've chosen is..

(Hugo) 'Oh, my God!'

Looks amazing!

Fact that you're gonna wear that on your wedding day

the day you're gonna remember for the rest of your life

means so much.

- 'That's beautiful!' - Thank you so much!

God you're gonna make me tear up, you know, that's mad.

I don't want my mascara to run.

Jewelers, I hate to break a party up but there's still

the very important business of awarding

the "All that Glitters" title.

So, the judges are gonna need some time to decide

and I'll send you now for a well deserved break.

I can't describe how I'm feeling right now, honestly.

It was crazy, emotional, happy, yeah, it's beautiful.

Do you know if I was, if I was to win

that's, that' would just be amazing

I mean all those years grinding

working hard, the late nights, the missed parties

lots of missed holidays would all pay off, you know!

I think I've still got good chance definitely.

I stuck to my guns with both challenges this week

so that in itself could be a reason why

they might pick me as a winner.

it would be just be a wonderful end

to a crazy, long adventure.

Obviously, I'd love to go home with the title

but you know what, it could be anybody, it's such good work'

you know, every time I look at Hugo's work I am almost annoyed

at how good he is, Tamara is so delicate

and precise, you know, t-this, this could be anybody's.

(Katherine) To help the judges make their big decision

every piece the finalists have designed and made

over the past few weeks has been put on display.

But who will they choose?

[sighs] Six weeks of challenges

12 pieces

and it all comes down to this.

Let's just talk about today.

Did they meet your expectations?

For me they did, throughout this competition

we've seen them grow, we've had ups and downs

but today it all came to fruition.

It was the design, their signature, their technique

and everything came together in these two beautiful pieces.

I think they have done extremely well.

Solange, did anyone stand out for you?

I think they have really

come on a very long journey.

Tamara with her lack of confidence

right at the beginning and she has a very strong

style when you see it all together and Hugo whose style

is evolving constantly and whose, whose jewelery

prowess is getting better and better and better

and Dan who's always been great at making jewelery

and he is developing his own style.

They've all had good weeks, bad weeks

and that's what makes it so exciting, right at the very end.

Well, the question on everyone's lips is..

...have you chosen a jewel in the crown?

(Shaun) I think I have!

- You have a winner Solange? - I think I do.

(Solange) And I hope it's the same as Shaun's!

Otherwise, we might have to have a fight.

(Katherine) But before the winner is revealed

Of the finalists, I think I would chose Tamara.

I really admire her focus and her unique design.

But they're all amazing jewelers.

Well, we have come so far, we started with eight of you

there are now only three and I have to tell you

what a genuine privilege it has been to watch you

flourish and sometimes melt things accidentally

'here in the "All that Glitters" workshop.'

We really tested your skills and pushed your boundaries

and you impressed the judges

'with your ambition, flare and originality.'

All the clients who came looking for bespoke pieces

walked away with jewelery they will treasure for life.

But only one can walk away with the "All that Glitters" crown.

Which is actually a trophy and cruise

but it's not included.

The judges have made their decision

and the winner is..

Yeah, the f-fact Hugo is 24, uh, I am 40 and he's that good.

He came with ambition, energy, that drive and that passion!

I can just see him blossoming and becoming a great jeweler.

Yeah, so many ups and downs throughout this whole thing.

At times when you think, "Ah, you know, I am definitely

getting sent back!" and just by a skin in your teeth

you stay in, but, thank God, I stayed in.

The real celebration is gonna happen

when I get back home but, to my people, yeah
