The Ideal City

This is a work of fiction

Ep09

Sir, turn left then right

at the next crossroad.

Okay.

Su Xiao.

The bid we won for JS River Project this time.

You should take credit for it.

Our quotations

were based on your theory.

Mr. Chen...

He probably just thought

you don't have the cost engineer certificate.

It's all good.

We are all colleagues,

working together.

It doesn't matter who takes the credit.

Right. We're all colleagues.

Well, if you need any help in the future,

just let me know.

Alright?

Alright.

Xu Feng, you've let me down.

I thought you were different.

Su Xiao.

The bid we won for JS River Project this time.

You should take credit.

Our quotations were

based on your theory.

The credit of this successful bid belongs to you.

But you don't have the cost engineer certificate.

I can't back you for promotions.

We have to first promote

people with the certificates.

Cost engineer certificates

are the stepping stone

in our industry.

Without this,

nobody would give you a chance

no matter how hard you try.

The HR dept of the group

disapproved of your employment.

But then the president

read a tender you made,

and he told Mr. Wang

that you're talented.

What do you want me to do?

To figure out where the money went.

I will help you get back your certificate,

if you help me with it.

Without the certificate,

you can only work as a shadow cost engineer

for the rest of your life.

You can never sign

the tenders you make.

Do you want that?

Su Xiao

Hello.

No worries, Mr. Xu.

I can help you.

At the same time, can you get my certificate back?

My cost engineer certificate.

Du.

Tell me,

why am I such a natural

when it comes to situations like this?

Du.

Du.

Du. Du.

I'm here!

I'm a natural

at handling tricky situations, ain't I?

Yeah, a door handle.

Sorry,

I really don't know what to do.

Helen, this is Xia Ming.

Sorry to call you so late.

I wan to transfer Su Xiao

to our firm, TK.

You've been working hard

for the past days.

We've achieved initial success in JS River Project.

Mr. Wang is very pleased.

He told me to express his gratitude

on behalf of the group.

But you can't be self-complacent

because of it.

The Art Gallery Project

was almost shut down last night.

Although we fixed it in time,

it should still ring

an alarm for all of us.

In construction,

we run against time

every minute.

Every detail affects the schedule,

profits

and sometimes, human lives.

You! Take a look at yourself!

Looking so drowsy in the morning.

Where's the vigor of the youth?

Look at Lu.

He drank a lot last night too.

But he's still looking

very sharp today.

You know what this it?

This is a responsible attitude towards work.

All of you,

should learn from Lu.

He's been with us for five years,

and never once arrived late or left early.

He works on every project

with dedication and determination.

Did we win the bid for JS River

by chance?

No.

We deserved it.

Lu's hard work

paid off.

Mr. Xu told me yesterday,

the group will put out an outsourcing project

worth 70 million yuan to tender.

I know you're tired.

But you need to keep working hard.

The building area of the project

is 100,000 square meters.

Worth 70 million yuan.

TK didn't take the other two projects seriously

'cause they were small.

But this is different.

Don't underestimate TK

because we've beat them twice.

Lu will be in charge of this.

Dong Lin, you assist him.

Good luck, you two.

Go get me a three-peat!

Yes, sir.

Let's go.

We need to start discussing our project.

I'll arrange people to make the reports.

Hongmei.

Xiao.

Why are you here?

I'm running an errand,

so I dropped by.

Sit here.

It's almost lunch time.

Let's go grab some food.

Alright.

Let's go.

What do you wannna have?

Everything will do.

Hongmei, I can get through this.

Do you remember, in one summer vacation,

a bunch of us were working on site as interns?

One night, the team leader

wanted us to drink with the clients.

No one wanted to go,

but we didn't say anything

'cause we wanted good marks.

But you stood up for everyone,

and argued for us.

Ever since then, I've always

considered you as fearless and brave.

Now things are different.

But I'm still me.

If there's one thing I learned

from my time at ZJ Construction,

it's that I should change my ways of doing things.

I'm not scared of any one.

I'm not.

I just don't want

to waste my energy on meaningless fights.

If I really stand up against something,

it needs to be important

and the timing should be perfect.

I'm sure you'll be alright.

I just feel bad

about your situation now.

You know?

I really miss college.

Free and carefree.

Nobody bullied you,

or gave you a hard time.

Let's have noddles.

Hello, table for two.

No.23.

Thanks.

Never mind. Let's not talk about sad things.

I have something to tell you.

Xia Ming called and said,

he wants you to work at TK as his assistant.

Seriously.

I was stunned too

when he told me.

But it's true.

He also said,

if you take the deal,

your pay will be the same as

the manager of their business dept.

What do you say?

Remember I told you that

Xu wants me to help him audit TK's accounts?

Maybe Xia Ming

found out about it.

He wants to get you on his side

and avoid trouble?

Possibly.

I didn't know about it.

I thought he was very genuine

yesterday on the phone.

I bought it anyways.

How about this.

I'll call him and say you refused.

No.22.

No.22, your table is ready.

Table for four, please.

Hello.

Hello, Mr. Xia.

I'm Wu Hongmei,

from HR.

I talked to Su Xiao,

and she said...

She's satisfied with her current job,

and doesn't want a transfer.

Satisfied?

Satisfied with what?

Eh...

I didn't ask about the details.

But I'm sure her answer is no.

She said thank you.

Alright, then I'll talk to her myself.

Helen, give her the phone.

OK.

Call.

What?

Take the call.

I take the call?

Hello, Mr. Xia.

Let's talk in person.

Seven o'clock tonight,

at the cafe next to your firm.

What's wrong?

I haven't said a word

and he hung up on me.

He really thinks

he's this alpha male!

No.23.

That's us.

Hello, Chief Li.

Hello. You're...

I'm Xu Feng,

assistant to Yinghai's president.

We've met before

at the hospital.

What brings you here?

Well.

I checked with the delivery company,

and found out that

you mailed this to our president.

I don't know what you're talking about.

Don't get me wrong.

I'm not here to cause trouble.

I'm here to thank you

on behalf of our president.

Also, we'd like to

ask you a favor.

Go ahead.

Su Xiao is working

at our group now.

Our president values her a lot.

We want you to help us

get her cost engineer certificate back.

Don't you think

it's a ridiculous request?

Chief Li. Chief Li.

Helping others is a great joy in life.

A cost engineer needs

to have professional skills

and work ethics.

Such a big accident

happened with the Public Housing Project.

She was in charge of it.

No way she'll get the certificate.

Xiao,

he knew that

we were together.

He seems to know a lot about

your social relations.

I think you should be careful.

I know.

Here. Here.

Thanks.

Assistant Xu, you're back!

Time for afternoon tea.

Coffee for you.

Assistant Xu.

Don't blame them.

It's all my fault.

I just thought

they looked exhausted...

He doesn't know a thing about exhaustion.

Don't say that.

It's his first major audit.

It's understandable that

he doesn't know how hard it is.

I'll take them.

Get out!

Alright, alright. I'll leave.

Mr. Xu,

please don't be angry at them.

Be angry at me!

OK. OK.

Talk it out nicely.

Don't get angry, please.

The heck?

What do you want?

Sir, they got into a fight!

They got into a fight!

Well done.

Keep watching them. Be careful!

I know how you all think of me.

Incompetent.

Inexperienced.

And I don't appreciate how hard you work.

I only got where I am today

'cause I'm close to the president

and I pulled strings.

I know that you're all working hard.

All these files,

you have to sort them out one by one,

and work around the clock.

We put so much hard work,

if we couldn't find anything,

it'd all be in vain.

It'd be a laughingstock!

Do you know

how many people are waiting

for us to make a fool of ourselves?

Yeah.

I'd be humiliated if we couldn't find anything.

It'd look bad on all of you too!

That's it.

No more working overtime today.

Go home.

Goodbye, Xu.

Seven o'clock sharp. So punctual.

I'll take it that

you're very sincere?

I just don't wanna waste time.

I need to go back to work later.

You have any work to do?

Excuse me.

What do you wanna drink?

I'm good.

You're scared

I'll use a coffee against you?

A hot latte for her.

And your specialty,

Tiramisu.

Got it.

I just think

I don't have that much

to say to you.

Every time we meet,

you remind me of myself

when I was fresh out of college.

I was like you,

sharp like a newly-forged sword.

Always trying to

blaze a new trial.

Did you manage to do it?

My first boss

was just like Mr. Yu.

There're so many people like Mr. Yu in the workplace.

And your uncle.

Are you still holding a grudge?

Yeah.

I am small-minded.

Have you watched Animal World?

On the prairie, there are agile cheetahs,

scheming foxes,

strong lions,

and fierce wolf packs.

They plot against each other

and go after each other.

But there is no good or bad

in this situation.

They all just want to survive.

In fact, I am grateful

to my first superior.

It was he who taught me

how to handle people like him.

So, you mean

I should be thanking you?

Yeah.

One day you will.

Anyway.

We are trying to win

a landmark project.

The chance of winning is quite high.

But if we can get it,

we'll be extremely busy this year.

So,

I need a professional

to share the load.

Do you seriously want me

to be your assistant?

Of course.

You have strong professional skills.

The only thing you lack

is the wisdom of work politics.

But rest assured.

If you are my assistant,

I will give you ample room.

I won't be like Chen Simin,

placing restrictions on you.

Mr. Chen is actually good to me.

It was he who saw

my resume online

and recruited me to TC.

Let me ask you one question.

Do you think

your work philosophy matches

with Chen's?

It's okay.

Take your time to think.

Does my philosophy match with yours?

At work,

two types of people get each other the most.

One is business partners.

The other is rivals.

I just want to change

our relationship

from rivals to partners.

This is the answer you need.

I gotta go.

Pull me up?

Lift me up?

Lift me?

So lift Su?

Sounds like Tiramisu.

Tiramisu.

Dear audience.

Today we have come to

the first solo photography show

of Miss He Yao after she came back to China.

Will Miss He Yao

show us something different

at her solo show?

As you can see,

there are already

visitors entering the gallery.

Look at the picture.

It's probably the Mediterranean.

So romantic.

The layout is great.

I like the blue.

Amazing.

This one as well.

I feel like the water

will flow outside the picture.

I know, right?

It's probably Switzerland.

A picture like this

must worth a lot.

Miss He.

Your works are known

for their complexity and variability.

I saw that many visitors

were talking with you.

Everyone has

their own interpretation.

I want to know

what is the question that people

ask you most often?

They ask if my dad is here.

This is your first solo show.

Most of your works have been sold.

You must feel

very fulfilled now.

It's good that you think like that.

Sir.

I can see that

you are deeply attracted to this work.

What did you see

in this work?

Sadness.

Why?

This is a gorgeous piece of work.

Why does it make you sad?

This is the Penrose stairs.

The stairs form a continuous loop.

The girl in this work

can never get out.

Miss He.

Is this gentleman right?

Congratulations, Miss He.

Your show is a success.

What are you looking at?

Why didn't Mr. Chen

ask Su Xiao to work on this?

Why should he ask her?

She is the cost manager.

She reviews bids.

We enter

biddings.

To be honest,

as the cost manager,

she doing a bidder's work

with us

doesn't look good on us.

Keep it down.

We must work hard this time.

For sure.

Exhaust Xia Ming.

Su Xiao, I hurt my hand!

Look!

What happened?

Don't move.

Come on.

What happened to you?

I was cut by a paper shredder.

Nothing serious. A piece of paper got stuck.

Don't toss it.

Du Juan.

How's it going?

Is it fixed?

Yes, it is.

When did you give it to me?

This is what

you should give

Mr. Wu directly.

How can I pass it on for you?

So stress relieving.

Oh yeah?

Hongmei.

Try it.

Me? Forget it.

Think about your superior.

Maria.

Xiao, are you okay?

I'm fine!

Xiao, there's something

that I haven't told you.

Zhou Jun

helped you get this job.

At that time,

you kept doing work in others' names.

I felt sorry for you and was worried.

I thought

Zhou Jun must take responsibility for this.

So...

Don't be mad.

That explains it.

Chen Simin recruited me

but let me sit next to the toilet.

I don't know what to do every day.

Why didn't you tell me earlier?

If I told you earlier,

I worry you'd quit again

cuz you'd be mad.

Aren't you worried now?

You have a choice now.

Should we keep going?

Yes.

Xia Ming wants Su Xiao

to be his assistant?

Yes.

I have told

Su Xiao about it.

She didn't say no.

You already contacted her

before telling me.

I'm sorry, Maria.

I didn't think it through.

Have you thought about this?

Two subsidiaries are involved in this.

What to do if there is

a dispute?

According to the group's personnel rules,

the group has the power over personnel.

The group has the right

to make proper adjustments.

It happens that TK needs

a capable assistant

to the chief.

Su Xiao is suitable for that.

It's a promotion for her.

So it's a win-win.

Did Wang Yang agree to this?

He had a huge fight with me

over Su Xiao

at the president's office.

Helen.

You always become irrational

when Su Xiao is involved.

Work and friendship

should be separated.

Then what should we do now?

What else can we do?

It has already come this far.

Just go with it.

If Wang Yang agrees to it,

transfer Su Xiao to TK.

Then...

Hello.

You nasty man!

You just like to make life difficult for me,

right?

You took my projects and my employee!

Who did I take?

Stop acting!

You asked Maria for my employee.

Who could do that?

You're shameless!

That's it. Talking to you is hard.

Let me tell you this.

She is mine. Don't you think about it!

Hello?

Come in.

Mr. Wang, did you ask for me?

Do you know that Xia Ming

wants Su Xiao

to work at his company

as his assistant?

I don't.

Didn't I tell you

to keep an eye on the company?

Keep a close eye.

How can you know nothing?

Isn't she your subordinate?

Shouldn't you know something

about what she thinks

and does at any time?

I think this is

kind of strange.

How?

Su Xiao used to work at ZJ.

She worked on the Public Housing Project.

So she already knew Xia Ming.

But why didn't

Xia Ming hire her right away

when she first left ZJ?

That's because

she's been doing a fantastic job lately.

After she came to our firm,

Huang, who always wins,

lost twice in a roll.

If it were me,

I'd also try all means

to let her work for me.

It's easy to have an army but hard to have a general.

Who doesn't know it?

Before, that Fat Huang wes already

doing better than me.

After Xia Ming started to work for him,

they have been thriving.

And they got the Public Housing Project.

In our business,

everyone knows it's all about the projects.

The bigger the project,

the more famous and powerful you are.

The group always prioritizes other companies

when allocating talents.

We always get

second-rate employees.

We finally got a talent like her,

but you didn't take her seriously.

Mr. Wang.

I did take her seriously.

I've always been training her.

Xia Ming is afraid of losing again.

So he desperately wants to let Su Xiao

work for him.

About the Global Lead Project,

let Su Xiao be in charge.

Mr. Wang.

This arrangement doesn't make sense.

She is the cost manager, after all.

Bidding has always been Lu Zhengming

and Dong Lin's work.

Besides,

Lu Zhengming is gaining momentum.

The last tender was done by him.

Lu is good. Very attentive.

I know this.

I also appreciate him.

But right now,

we have to play hardball.

We need a trailblazer.

I know.

It's hard to manage all this.

Sometimes you need to balance things.

But do it moderately, okay?

Know what's our top priority.

That's settled.

Xia Ming.

No problem.

Did you ask the group for Su Xiao?

Did Wang Yang call you?

He called and shouted at me badly.

Surely,

I shouted back.

What do you have in mind?

Didn't you ask me to help her

in another way?

I didn't mean anything.

What do you mean?

She is a talent.

It's that simple.

DIdn't you say

she's gonna have more setbacks

in this cruel world?

She changed her mind this fast?

She already had

multiple setbacks.

Is this really your only intention?

What are you thinking?

How is Miss He?

Good.

What do you

mean by good?

You always say, "Good."

Then that's it.

Miss He's studio.

You brat.

Drop the act!

Su Xiao

He Yao.

Are you sure you want to

make it your studio?

Yeah. Is there a problem?

Poor concrete pouring.

There are pores.

And a wall is tilted.

Tilted?

Which one?

This wall?

This wall.

I don't see it.

Can't you see?

So?

Have you noticed?

No. I can't see it.

You still can't see it?
