- Yeah, this one is from
a real low ranking entity
called Space Kitty.
Her suggestion is,
"Can you draw Anime characters in boring jobs?"
- Ooh! - Ohh!
- So yeah,
think of the high emotion and fantasy of Anime
mixed with the grim reality of day to day labor.
- [Caldwell] So, I think that,
there's actually a lot of Anime and Manga
that do tackle boring subjects.
- [Nathan] Yeah, and I like that,
so I think it's almost like
a lot of Anime can celebrate boring subjects,
and I think that's a good direction to take it.
- [Caldwell] Right. - [Nathan] 'Cause otherwise,
we'd end up just basically making Office Space,
but with Goku in it.
Which, now that I'm saying it
sounds pretty good.
Maybe I should just do that.
- [Nathan] I would absolutely watch that.
- [Caldwell] Yeah.
But, I was thinking it'd be fun to have
a character who is the world's greatest accountant.
- [Nathan] Oh, nice.
- [Caldwell] And I think in this show,
maybe they do work at H&R Block.
Or, whatever the copyright-free version of H&R Block
would be.
What's like a good, generic H&R Block?
Although that's a pretty generic name.
- [Nathan] Yeah, let's see.
- [Managar] Tax Hut!
(laughs)
- [Caldwell] I like the geometrical angle
of H&R Block, though.
Can we keep that in there?
- Uh, Tax Square.
(laughs)
- Tax Orb?
- Tax Orb!
- [Caldwell] He works at the Tax Orb, sure.
Okay.
And I do think that this is like a death note-style Anime.
- [Nathan] Oh, okay.
- [Caldwell] Where I think that this character gets
a magic pin or something
that lets him file taxes super fast
and efficiently.
So, like,
if you've got a 1099 or need to file an extension,
this guy's got your back.
But I think that maybe he's finding loopholes.
Or, he's made a pact with a demon
named Uncle Sam.
(laughs)
- [Nathan] Okay.
Yeah, everybody knows this person
is the world's greatest accountant.
But yeah, I think they've drawn upon
some sort of supernatural energy
- [Caldwell] The Cayman Islands.
(laughs)
- Yeah.
Just a demon named Loophole.
(laughs)
- His name is Luke Hole.
(laughs)
- [Managar] Honestly, no beating around the bush,
I say we got full homage with this thing.
It's a note for note,
we are adapting one of the greatest
supernatural mystery shows in all of Anime history.
Taxes, W2's, the SCC.
Debt Note.
- Debt Note!
- Damn!
Debt Note!
That's very good.
Yeah, I mean, it makes sense,
'cause, like,
that one covered death.

- I like that.
- Okay, I'll do that.
- [Nathan] Yeah, try a pen

- [Jacob] Yeah 'cause it also needs to be

'cause he's a professional,
you know.
He's in a professional setting, client facing.
- [Caldwell] Absolutely.
He's at the front desk every day.
- [Jacob] Yeah.
- [Caldwell] He's in the commercials,
maybe he's got a little bowtie?
- [Jacob] Oh sure.
Maybe he's got a big bowtie.
(laughs)
Okay? - [Managar] No no no no,
this is Anime.
You got to give him a dumb
that for some reason in Anime looks cool,
but in every other scenario,
it is the lamest piece of clothing
in the history of humanity. - [Jacob] Oh, yes.
Give this guy a full miles edge worth.
(laughs)
Look at this fucker.
(laughs)
- [Caldwell] And again, his name is Luke Hole.
I just need you all to remember that fact.
(laughs)
But where do we think he gets his power from,
is my question.
- [Nathan] There are death gods in Anime,
why can't there be tax gods?
- [Caldwell] Okay, so it is like a debt god.
- They're called corporations,
and they are perfectly legal,
and we will not question them.
(laughs)
- [Caldwell] I think that, yeah,
he's just gathered power from
spending time in a tax shelter
(laughs)
in the Cayman islands or something like that.
I think he had a spiritual experience there maybe.
- [Managar] As a boy,
he was shipwrecked.
- [Caldwell] Yes!
- [Managar] And lost his family and he awoke
on a Cayman Island.
(laughs)
Its ancient power imbued him.
- [Caldwell] He fell under the tax force.
- [Nathan] Later on in the series,
we do see a flashback to when he was a child,
just running around on this island,
learning the truth about the tax force
that runs through everything.
- [Jacob] Wearing a bowtie made of leaves.
- [Nathan] Yeah.
(laughs)
- All right, well, Nathan,
do you want to go next?
- I'll go next.
- Okay, cool.
- [Nathan] So, I do like the idea of
gods of debt.
- [Caldwell] Gods of debt.
- [Nathan] So, I'm going to draw the one
that is sort of bound to Luke.
- [Caldwell] Luke Hole, Mr. Hole.
Okay, so this is a debt god.
- [Nathan] Yeah.
- [Caldwell] Which is perfect.
Because, that's kind of the whole idea
behind gods anyway,
is that they're trying to get your soul.
- [Nathan] Right.
- [Caldwell] And this is just cutting out all the
metaphysical bullshit.
They're just in it for the cash.
- [Jacob] They want those fat stacks of kish my man.
And that's what they're gonna get.
I mean, I just learned from Managar that
money is apparently an issue in the afterlife.
- [Nathan] Oh yeah
- [Jacob] That really sucks.
I was actually looking forward to dying
so I wouldn't have to think about that anymore.
- [Managar] Oh no, no.
You gots to get paid,
even for eternity.
- [Jacob] Ah, God, why?
I don't have to eat!
- [Caldwell] I don't know if you're noticing,
but we rent this place.
They make us pay full rent on this
that we live in.
- [Jacob] That you're forced to stay in?
- [Caldwell] Yeah.
The hot water doesn't even work,
which is ironic.
It's all cold.
- I don't talk a lot to the Japan division,
but apparently, every time you spend
a little too much on your credit card,
'cause you're in between jobs,
a Shinto spirit is born.
(laughs)
- Wow, incredible.
- [Managar] Yeah!
- [Caldwell] Ah, look at that skull!
I love it when a skull still got all its teeth.
That's the good stuff
- [Jacob] Does he have a nice fur coat?
- [Caldwell] Yeah!
This looks like some one piece ass character design,
and I'm all for it.
Give him like a cannon for an arm.
- [Jacob] I'll take one piece of this guy,
if you know what I'm sayin'.
(laughs)
- [Managar] I love how in one piece
a character design like this
could be like an undead spirit
or a zombie or a ghost,
or it's just like,
'nah, my name's Kevin, I'm 48.'
(laughs)
- [Nathan] I'm your brother.
I ate some fruit one time.
- [Jacob] Yeah, what do debt gods love?
I know death gods love apples.
What's debt gods' fruit of choice?
- [Caldwell] Well, they're so busy,
so they would need like a hands free snack.
- Yeah, it's probably like a protein shake.
- It's like gogurt.
(laughs)
- Gogurt!
- Debt gods love gogurt.
- [Caldwell] Did they ever try to make adult gogurt?
They probably did, right?
That definitely happened.
- [Jacob] I think they did, yeah.
- [Caldwell] This is kinda where my mind's at,
I don't really care about Nathan's drawing anymore.
I do just need to find a brand name
for this adult yogurt.
(laughs)
- [Jacob] What about like, Flogurt?
And it's like all natural branded,
you know, like,
yoga yogurt.
- [Caldwell] What about, all right,
we take the Flogurt idea but
it is in a tube, and we need to emphasize that.
So maybe just Flube?
(laughs)
- Let me just crush a Flube real quick
and I'll, I'll meet you in the meeting room in five.
- [Caldwell] Finance lube,
or Flube as we call it.
- [Jacob] Finance lube.
- [Caldwell] Ah, look at that
thick paste.
- [Nathan] There's that meal paste.
(laughs)
Mmm, mmm, mmm.
So this Anime is sponsored by Flube.
(laughs)
It's a Flube branded product.
- [Caldwell] You know, hey.
Don't be a rube, get Flube,
as I always say.
- [Managar] Now with whole almonds!
(laughs)
- [Caldwell] One almond at the bottom.
That's your treat, that's your reward
for finishing your Flube.
- There's 700 unique flavors of Flube,
or Flubers as we call 'em.
(laughs)
And you absolutely must squanch them all.
- [Caldwell] Hey Jacob, before you went to your coma,
did you get to try any of the new potato flavored
Fluber tubers?
- [Jacob] That's where I was going when the dog shot me!
I was headed to the store!
- [Caldwell] Oh no!
- [Jacob] It was the last flavor I needed to try.
- [Nathan] Maybe the dog was trying to warn you.
- [Caldwell] Dogs are not allowed to have Flube
is the thing, and they're furious about it.
- [Jacob] Dogs do hate it.
- [Caldwell] It was a weird ad campaign
where they were like, 'not for dogs!'
- [Jacob] The snack that dogs don't want you to eat.
(laughs)
Flube!
- [Caldwell] I love that you've incorporated
the Uncle Sam aesthetic as well.
- [Jacob] Yeah, it's taxes!
- [Caldwell] He looks like a cross between
Beetlejuice, and Jay Leno.
(laughs)
Which I'm really into.
- [Nathan] This is, Refund.
(laughs)
- [Managar] With a 'Y'?
- [Nathan] Yeah.
- [Caldwell] I like it.
What sort of abilities does he instill Luke with?
- [Nathan] Okay, so obviously,
Luke has his special tax document that he can write on.
And when he writes down the expense,
it automatically becomes a write off.
- [Caldwell] So he can write off anything
is what you're saying?
- [Nathan] Yeah.
- [Caldwell] I guess the IRS is of course
the villain of this show, then.
- [Managar] Oh, we are gonna have the coolest
soft goth IRS investigator!
- [Jacob] If you didn't think I was gonna draw
a rad auditor rival
(laughs)
you're absolutely wrong.
- [Caldwell] Nathan, you have to finish,
I need to see this!
(laughs)
- [Nathan] What should he be holding in his other hand?
- [Caldwell] Oh, I mean,
it could be just more Flube.
(laughs)
- He's double fistin' Flube!
- Ah, you never double Flube'd!
- He's doin' the d'uble Flube!
(laughs)
The d'uble Flube challenge!
- The d'uble Flube challenge.
(laughs)
One tube of Flube does have
already double your daily caloric intake,
so to d'uble Flube is to
invite death into your home.
(laughs)
- [Managar] I think it was 1998,
we did get a lot of new entries from
just kids double Flubing.
- [Nathan] Yeah, he's got some on his face.
(laughs)
- [Caldwell] He doesn't have a ton of muscle
up in there, so he probably has to push his jaw
up and down to chew.
That's probably why he likes Flube so much.
- [Managar] Oh no, this ancient abomination
is oozing with cream at all times.
(laughs)
- [Nathan] That's what his wings are made of.
They're just - [Managar] No.
No.
- [Caldwell] He's got Fluby wings!
- [Jacob] Gross.
- [Managar] Dammit, I'm trying to
hit the automatic flames to stop you
from drawing yogurt wings.
(laughs) But they took it away
'cause of the budget cuts!
(laughs)
- [Caldwell] This is what
from Steven Universe should have been.
(laughs)
Cartoon Network is a coward.
- [Jacob] Yogurt wings were staring them
right in the face and they missed that opportunity.
- [Nathan] I'm not sorry.
I'm not sorry at all.
This is the best thing I've ever drawn.
- [Caldwell] It's so good!
(laughs)
- [Nathan] I'm done.
Jacob, do you want to draw something?
- Yes, please.
- Okay.
- [Jacob] Okay so we definitely need
a threat and a villain.
- [Caldwell] Absolutely.
- [Jacob] In this.
First thing's first,
I do have to complete these Flube wings.
- [Nathan] Can you make a tuft of hair
coming out the top?
- [Jacob] The top of the hat?
- [Nathan] Yeah.
- [Jacob] Yeah, totally.
Is it gonna be like one of these
old timey hobo hats, where it's like
popped off like this?
(laughs)
- [Caldwell] Gotta be.
(laughs)
- [Nathan] It is now!
- [Jacob] Yeah his hair goes all the way up there.
- [Nathan] Yep.
Yep yep yep.
- [Jacob] Can't be contained.
- [Caldwell] Damn,
it's like, he's equal parts death god
and pro wrestling commentator.
I love him.
(laughs)
- [Nathan] Again, so his mouth is
always full of Flube,
so he's just got real, real milk voice.
Just like,
mmhm, mhmm,

(laughs)
- [Managar] Now Jacob, for this rival,
we need to have the coolest dude.
I want to see ships, stands,
I want the fan fiction to be written
before the ink lines are done.
- [Jacob] Sure, yeah,
that's absolutely what I'm goin' for.
And I'm gonna go with kind of a
classic Anime poster aesthetic here.
- [Caldwell] Oh, very good.
- [Jacob] And make him do one of those
big in the background moves.
- [Nathan] Ah, big in the back!
- [Jacob] I love a looming threat.
- [Nathan] Yeah.
- [Caldwell] Is this a popped collar?
- [Jacob] Yeah.
Our auditor here's got a big popped collar.
No one told him that he's not a detective.
And so he kinda thinks he is.
- [Caldwell] Nice.
- [Jacob] Great, and so he acts like
a hardboiled tax detective.
- [Nathan] And he's been noticing all these loopholes
and all of these write offs.
- [Jacobs] Yeah and he's like,
it cannot be.
This many write offs, this many home offices?
Impossible!
But then, every time he goes to their house,
they do have like five or six home offices.
- [Caldwell] Yeah.
- [Jacob] And he's like, something's up.
Something supernatural's going on.
- [Nathan] Oh, when he writes down the thing,
it creates an illusory version of that
- [Caldwell] Absolutely - [Nathan] Reality for,
as long as the audit takes.
- [Jacob] Yeah it forges sort of a new reality.
- [Caldwell] Yeah, but it's borrowing that money
from somewhere, and
it's gotta break at some point, baby.
- [Jacob] And our boy here is out to figure out
what's goin' on.
- [Caldwell] Now, does the auditor have
a special technique as well,
to rival Luke Hole's techniques?
- [Managar] So like, Luke Hole has
all his magic gibbledygooks.
And he's special but the rival,
he was like, raised in the finest of
deduction academies and
(laughs)
is very worldly, and,
he's earned it.
The fact that this accountant
can get his powers from nothing
is what really sets him off.
- [Caldwell] Yeah, he went to the
(laughs)
Rainy English Countryside School
for boys who love trains and math.
(laughs)
- [Jacob] I think big eyebrows.
- [Caldwell] Absolutely.
- [Jacob] Yeah, just some real honkers.
- [Caldwell] I'm getting a real kinda almost
Constantine vibe from this fella.
- [Jacob] Ooh.
- [Caldwell] Like maybe he is English.
In the dub at least.
- [Managar] Oh you better give him
eight cigarettes.
(laughs)
- [Nathan] Yes.
But wait,
maybe when he does like a big smoke,
the cigarette smoke becomes numbers.
(laughs)
(mimics coughing)
- [Jacob] He sees them float out in front
and that's how he does all of his brilliant maths.
- [Caldwell] Yeah.
(laughs)
- [Jacob] It's like a Sherlock mine palace scenario.
- [Caldwell] Absolutely.
He's like,
'Hold on, I gotta do me maths.'
(laughs)
'Enter the smoke chamber.
'These sums don't add up, brov.
'Gonna have to hotbox the hell out of this one.'
(laughs)
And you think like, oh,
does he have magic math cigarettes?
He's like, nah, that's all in his brain.
The nicotine just helps him out.
Did we come up with a name for this character yet?
- [Jacob] No, not yet.
I'm gonna need some help figuring out
what this guy should be called.
- Well we've got Luke Hole,
we got Refund.
- F
(laughs)
- Is it just gonna be a single letter?
- [Managar] Without a proper name,
he can't be caught on tax issues.
So he's untraceable.
- [Caldwell] Is his name just W9?
(laughs)
- [Jacob] Oh, my God!
- [Managar] Ooh!
- [Jacob] It absolutely is. - [Managar] Ooh!
- [Jacob] That's correct.
(laughs)
- [Nathan] Oh, he's from the W Clan,
and so he's the ninth W.
(laughs)
- [Caldwell] The ninth son of the W Clan.
- [Nathan] Yeah.
- [Managar] Who has sworn to stop the death gods
since Memorial.
(laughs)
- Sometimes his brother, W2, shows up.
(laughs)
- Yeah and he does have a tense relationship
with his family.
- [Caldwell] Oh for sure!
- [Jacob] He's out to prove that
he's gonna be the heir to the W Clan.
He's got to have one big dangley piece of hair.
- [Man] Yeah.
- [Nathan] Look at that big dangler!
Ah, man, if I were a fish,
I would wanna swim up and bite that.
But I know that it's allure
that it's gonna mean that I get eaten
by a bigger fish.
- [Jacob] That you get eaten by a very handsome
detective auditor. (laughs)
I think that this kind of thing,
it points towards fraud.
(laughs)
- [Caldwell] It's like a dousing rod.
- [Jacob] Yeah, it's like a dousing rod.
- [Caldwell] It's the fraud rod.
- [Jacob] The fraud rod.
- [Man] That's me fraud rod.
It's hair.
- [Nathan] Yeah.
What of it?
What of it?
- [Caldwell] He would definitely not have
such a cockney accent either, but
- [Nathan] Yeah the dub isn't great.
- Now, Jacob,
please don't forget his magic math cigarette.
- Oh yeah, of course
of course. - Thank you.
- [Jacob] The cigarette does have an M.
It looks like it's just broken
but it's got an M in the middle.
- [Managar] Ah, dude!
Broken cigarettes are way cooler than other cigarettes.
- [Jacob] Yeah, absolutely.
And we're gonna get some smoke goin' up here
and it's making a five.
(laughs)
That's the number of frauds that he's seen.
I don't know what auditors do.
I don't know what accountants do.
- [Managar] He turned his toilet into
a home office.
- [Man] Impossible!
- [Man] This madman!
He wrote off his own wife!
- [Jacob] I feel like he needs more
Anime accessories for this coat.
- Ornate belt,
give him an ornate belt!
- [Jacob] Oh yeah, ornate belt, good call.
I want it to be like one of those dangly belts
that doesn't, it's not holding up anything.
- [Managar] I've never seen a belt in an Anime
hold anything up.
(laughs)
You know sometimes you just want
eight pounds of leather just hanging off ya
for some reason.
- [Caldwell] Jacob, can I make a suggestion?
- [Jacob] Yes you may.
- [Caldwell] Cigarette bandolier?
- [Jacob] That's what I was doing, Caldwell.
I read your mind.
(laughs)
- [Caldwell] Is that one of your coma powers?
- [Jacob] It's not, it's one of my normal powers.
- [Caldwell] Wow!
What are your coma powers?
- [Jacob] You know, existing in a purgatory,
where I can never truly die or live.
- [Caldwell] Oh nice!
- [Jacob] I can also hear the voices of my loved ones
when they speak to me in my head.
- [Caldwell] Oh, tight.
- [Jacob] That's horrible.
- [Managar] Yeah they're talkin' real smack.
- [Jacob] They're not nice.
I'm beginning to have doubts about my loved ones.
- [Nathan] Yeah.
Are they just ragging on how shitty
your coma beard looks?
- [Jacob] Yeah.
At least have the courtesy to comb a shave.
You knew we were coming to visit.
- They're like, this fucker can't even blink once for yes.
(laughs)
What an idiot.
- What an idiot.
(laughs)
Who gets shot by a dog?
(laughs)
- [Caldwell] Wow, look at that pouch.
- [Jacob] Yeah, he's got a belt pouch for cigarettes.
- [Managar] And a calculator.
- [Jacob] This is like his utility belt.
- [Caldwell] That's so good.
- [Managar] And a dagger.
- [Caldwell] Yeah, sure.
- [Managar] Just a legit dagger.
- [Jacob] Yeah, the ceremonial dagger of his family.
- [Caldwell] He mostly uses it to open letters.
- [Jacob] Yeah it's a letter opener.
Yeah, totally.
- [Caldwell] That's very good.
This worked out way too well.
- [Jacob] Caldwell, my brain has been so ruined by Anime
that at the very beginning,
the instant you said,
he's the greatest accountant in the world,
I was like, shit, I'd watch it!
(laughs)
I would legitimately watch it,
just based on that sentence alone.
- [Caldwell] Yeah.
- [Managar] Perpetually searching
for the strongest deductible.
(laughs)
- [Caldwell] I don't know what else to say,
I think that we gotta get this thing
into Cartoon-otron, lickety split,
right, y'all?
- [Nathan] Yeah.
- All right.
Flogurt!
Mogurt!
Gogurt!
Arise, Cartoonotron!
And grace us with your visualizations!
- What is up, my Fluby dubies?
- This guy's been flubin'!
- I am livin' that yogurt lifestyle!
I gotta get that goo, baby.
Seriously, I run on yogurt.
Do you have any yogurt?
They have reduced my yogurt intake
and I am starving.
- You know they don't give us anything
with nutritional value in here, but
this is an extra 'gurt filled drawing
we got for you to turn into a show, so
feel free to load up the animation with
as much Flube as you can.
- Perhaps I can slurp some of that sweet 'gurt.
I will do my best for you boys.
- Yeah.
(slurps)
- Yummy.
Surf's up, Flubes.
(dramatic music)
- Mmm!
You humans sure know how to make a delicious
portable yogurt
that's great for parents and kids alike.
- Pipe down, Refund.
I'm trying to concentrate.
(slurps)
- Mmm.
You seem nervous.
What?
That cute soft goth auditor got you worried?
- He's the only one who's been able to
piece together my paper trail.
But no worry.
I've got one last trick up my sleeve.
- Ugh!
Haha!
No more evading me, O!
Your time has run out!
And it's too late for you to file for an extension!
Huh?
(dramatic music)
Oh my God.
He wrote himself
off?!
Who?!
(slurps)
- Hey, you want some Flube?
(sighs)
- Can I smoke it?
- I don't see why not.
- All right, so that was Debt Note!
Wow!
Managar, what did you think?
- I have never seen responses like this!
Let's just get going here.
Gwen Delina says, 10 out of 10.
Cute boys, dark back stories,
I'm already drawing the
- Steamy.
- I can't wait to see that.
- Incredible!
And, oh no.
No no no.
No.
No you can't do this to us!
This was supposed to be the one!
No!
- We had something here!
- Guys!
The Netflix wing of Hell
just took the idea from us.
They're making a live action adaption.
- Ahh! - Ahh!
- How did they acquire the rights so fast?
- It's just gonna be this weird Westernized hodgepodge.
Ahh, God!
- I'll still watch it.
- Yeah I'm still definitely gonna watch that.
- Yeah is that out, like, now?
'Cause I actually am super into that idea.
- It's out now.
- Oh great, wow.
They're so fast.
- Jacob, I have good news.
We still have no idea what to do with you,
so just kinda
putter around forever
until someone pulls the plug on ya.
- Oh wonderful!
I mean, I could also, you know,
come back to life.
- Ehh - [Jacob] 50/50, right?
Coin flip?
- I mean that dog is still out there.
- Oh God, you're right.
(laughs)
- And he knows where you live.
- And that dog has very powerful friends.
They, he will finish the job.
- Yeah, how many Insta-followers does that dog have?
(laughs)
- It's a number more vast than you could ever imagine.
I'll tell you that much.
- Well, boys,
we're not gonna get out of this hole until
our finances are straight.
So, I'm gonna force you guys to
mine Bitcoins.
- Ahh.
- [Managar] We can't afford computers, so
here's some pen and paper.
- [Caldwell] Okay.
- [Managar] It's our only hope.
- [Caldwell] Well, thanks for watching Cartoon Hell.
We're here forever.
- [Nathan] I guess, I'm just gonna write some
ones and zeroes here.
