On Tuesday, April 2nd, the day following Easter,
the tenants of a housing project in Clichy,
bothered by the stench filling the whole floor
and coming from a neighbor across the landing,
alert the concierge
Worried but cautious,
she calls the police.
The bodies of a young woman and her little girl are found.
The two bodies are frightfully torn apart,
brutally slashed by many stab wounds.
No motive, no clue.
The police are getting nowhere and
are getting lost in speculation.
Four days later,
on a Saturday,
at a modest studio in Vitry,
two other young women.
Danielle wakes up. It's quite late in the morning.
She's worried about Arlette,
her childhood friend who, in a rough patch with her husband,
has taken refuge at Danielle's two days ago.
We will learn later on
that the husband is a big crackpot, a bit of an anarchist,
who does his best to look like Christ.
Arlette reproaches him for his loose behavior
around the women with whom he openly cheats on her.
He's known from the start
that his wife has taken refuge at their friend Danielle's,
that she's waiting there.
He has the keys to the studio.
She had hoped, to no avail, that he'd make the first step.
Today, she's ready to wipe the slate clean,
to try a new experience.
She goes home.
The husband, that leftist crackpot,
a bit of an anarchist, was suspected,
then put in detention pending trial in Fresnes.
A month later,
The police found the bodies of six other victims
and the judge had to release the innocent husband.
We still don't know
anything about the murderers. They remain on the loose.
