Welcome 15th District,
Congressional debate.

Each candidate will now give a
brief opening statement.

We'll begin with Jerry Glossen.

Thank you Patricia. Ladies and
Gentleman.

I believe in this
world climate, we need a choice

free of emotion and religious
pontificating.

If you want a candidate who is
about the facts,

then make the right choice, and
vote Jerry Glossen.

Mr. Baumann. You have the floor.

Thank you Patricia. Hello
folks, I'm Franklin Baumann.

My opponent talks about a choice
free of emotion.

Make no mistake I am
passionate about you,

I am passionate about the lord.

I am passionate about this war
that we are waging to protect

us, and lead us forward.

And if you want a candidate who
is passionate, I'm your man.

Mr. Bellafiore.

When I look around, I see a lot
of people hating each other.

Somewhere along the line, we
accepted this as normal.

We have to do better.

[applause]

Ah the naivety of youth.

Look, I hate to have to be the
one to say this, but can't we

get back to having a serious
discussion about the issues?

This is a nice kid do we wanna
let him stand up here,

and embarrass himself, Patricia?

No look, I'm not being mean or
condescending

to this fantastic young man,

but can he really answer the
questions

about the economy?

Can he answer questions about
how to fix education?

I mean it's one thing to come up
with a cute slogan

for your group,

and make t-shirts and internet
videos, and even put a few

people back to work, but any
way you slice it,

that's not the way to bring
sustainable work to this

district. He can't possibly
answer these questions.

And he can't talk about
morality, simply because he

hasn't been around long enough
to hone his moral compass.

I applaud Steven for what he
has done, how he has

invigorated youth into the
political movement here,

I do, I applaud you for that,
but now it's time to let the

adults take over so that these
people can make a choice.

It's time to end the circus.

You know you're right,
Mr. Baumann.

I can't win this election
legally,

and I'm not even on the ballot,

but I didn't get in this to win.

Then why did you get into it
Steve?

At first I got in it to protect
my faith.

To protect you faith?

Yes. To protect my faith.

I saw the faith I loved

being used to hurt the people I
cared about,

and I couldn't just stand by
and do nothing.

Sir, the way you frame your
message, is the reason why

a lot of people don't hear the
true Christian message.

Your Christianity divides
people.

You preach judgment, and even
war, but that is not the

Christianity that my father
taught me.

Pete Bellafiore taught me
about inclusion, about

acceptance. You say you like to
use the Bible to back up

your arguments, but what about
Galatians 3:28.

"There'’s neither Jew nor Greek,
there is neither slave or free,

there is no male and female,

for you are all one in Christ
Jesus."

Now I'd like to just take a
moment here to...

No offense sir, you have talked
for months, let me say one

thing, and I will be out of
your hair.

What ever's left of it.

If you believe Galatians. If
you believe, ALL ONE, then that

means that God doesn't hate
anyone he created.

He doesn't hate the sexually
immoral. WE HAVE ALL SINNED!

He doesn't hate anyone.

I've heard you talk about how
we have to separate ourselves

from these people to protect
ourselves but sir,

I think separation is the exact
wrong thing.

I think we need to
stay one strong community.

A community that tries to
understand one another,

rather than trying to judge one
another.

A community that tries to work
with one another,

rather than trying to work
against one another.

Two of the best men I know are
homosexual men.

They do more for people in this
town in one day than most

people do in their lifetime.

And they do it out of
selfless love, and pure faith.

Now, I can't say if their way
of life is right or wrong,

I don't know that I'm qualified
to judge that,

but I do know that counting
them out is wrong.

I know that it's terrible that
they feel, that they can't come

out and practice their faith for
fear of being judged.

Now I'm not saying you have to
agree with their way of life,

but you have to at least be up
for the conversation.

You have to try to understand,
and show love.

That is our moral duty.

My good friend Jackie Burns
taught me that talk is cheap,

so we tried to do something.

Now, you may blow up the idea of
what we did,

and say it's not sustainable,
and maybe it's not.

But you are so caught up in
winning that you didn't even

think to acknowledge the good
in what we did.

So now it's up to the grown
ups to take what we did

and parlay it into sustainable
jobs.

So sir. I didn't get in this to
win. I got in it to be a voice

for people who couldn't speak
up for themselves.

I got in it so people could
choose something else before

they chose division, and war,
and hate.

And if you're all with me,
then write in a different

option, whether it be my name
or anyone else's.

We can not choose the moral
war.

We have to choose each
other.

My dad Pete Bellafiore always
told me,

son we are always stronger
together.

did we do to deserve this?

Do you know how proud I am of
you, of both of you.

Well thanks mom.

So how do you think it went?

You know what, I think it went

I mean I put all my cards
on the table,

did what I wanted to do, and
the rest is in God's hands.

What is remarkable,

is the amount of youth that has
come out to vote today.

This Pass the Light campaign,
or The Force,

or whatever you want to call
them will not go away.

In the weeks that have followed
the rousing debate between

Steve Bellafiore and Franklin
Baumann,

a debate that went viral on the
web and garnered upward of a

million hits worldwide.

The Force has tirelessly
campaigned, and their numbers

and influence are getting
stronger.

Even if they can not
officially win, they wanna make

sure that we know that they are
out there.

Well today is election day,
and the work of the Force has

officially made an impact,
people have turned out in

record numbers young and old
alike, and they all want

to have their say in this
historic election.

Gina can you tell us what is
the scene like down there at

the voting booths.

Well Paula, the scene down here
is truly remarkable.

As of right now, the race is too
close to call.

When do you think they will
know?

It shouldn't take too long,

they only have to count our
district.

In a shocking turn of events in
the 15th district.

Pete Bellafiore, father of Steve

has won the election on a write
in.

The Baumann campaign, which
came in a very close second,

says they will protest, but for
now.

Pete Bellafiore is the
Congressman elect.

Sir, why did you vote for Pete
Bellafiore?

Well, I watched the video of
the debate on the internet, and

I realized that the kid was
saying the things I,

you know, wanted to hear, but
I thought you know he could

never win, so it's pointless.

But then I went to the booth
this morning, and the kid and

his girlfriend were handing out
these flyers that said to vote

for Pete Bellafiore, and uh, I
thought if you know the kid's

dad gets elected, then maybe the
kid will get to

share some of his ideas, so uh
that's what I did.
