[Rebel Princess]

[Episode 27]

Even if you don’t tell me, I know.

You are Prince Yuzhang’s people.

Although Prince Yuzhang is outside suppressing the rebellion,

Princess Yuzhang is in the capital.

You must know that all these years, the prime minister deliberately made misrepresentations to meddle in state affairs.

Everyone knew his rebellious heart.

Fortunately, Second Prince assisted His Majesty in ruling the country and regaining his dignity.

As the daughter of the prime minister, Princess Consort Yuzhang

still sat and would do nothing about it.

So she ordered you to commit such unfilial acts!

Second Prince...

What are you saying?

Second Prince.

Second Prince is the real usurper!

Your Majesty, today Zilu

especially prepared a bowl of fortifying congee for you

to help you regain strength.

Your Majesty, you really aren’t afraid that Zilu might poison you to death?

You still haven’t gotten the imperial edict.

You wouldn’t kill me just yet.

Since Your Majesty understands,

then you should give it to me sooner.

We could then avoid more suffering here, isn’t that right?

Yesterday, I didn’t sleep all night.

I tossed around while trying to sleep.

I was still puzzled after pondering a question over a hundred times.

Your Majesty, let me hear it.

I carefully thought, amongst my three sons,

you are the one in appearance and natural disposition the wisest

and who looks the most like me.

Your Majesty.

You want to use the tender feelings between father and son,

those very old lures

to move me and make me waver.

I just want to know...

How can you be so sure

that I’m not your birth father

and the very far away Prince Jianing is?

Princess Consort, you’re awake?

How long have I slept?

It’s the Shen hour. Your Highness slept for at least five hours. (Shen hour - 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.)

Princess Consort.

On the emperor’s side, has anyone come by?

To reply to Your Highness, not yet.

But...

What is it?

Just now, Third Prince went to see His Majesty.

The imperial guard went to announce him first.

Second Prince allowed it.

Zitan went to Shiqian Hall.

- How long has he been gone? - He just left.

Third Prince wouldn’t allow us to disturb you.

So we didn’t tell you.

Princess, Fengchi Palace has been closed.

So only the imperial guards outside can bring water to wash your face.

We can’t set one foot out. I’ll tidy your hair.

- The water will be there soon. - No need.

Is there any news from outside?

I heard the guards who brought food say that there will be a wedding in three days in the palace.

Whose wedding?

It seems Second Prince is getting married.

Wait a minute.

Third Prince, why don’t you thank me?

Thank you?

Thank you for imprisoning us and Father?

Or thank you for plunging the palace into an abyss of suffering?

As expected, nobody knows to be thankful.

Just like His Majesty, why don’t you think?

Even the empress and the crown prince are in prison.

You still have a chance to live with the one you love.

I’m letting you see Imperial Father based on our childhood friendship.

Letting you see him and to say your farewell.

What are you still unsatisfied with?

It seems that no matter how lenient I am,

Third Prince won’t feel grateful.

Since it’s like this, when you send Third Prince back, don’t go to Fengchi Palace,

just take him to the prison.

Let him reunite with the others.

As you wish.

Third Royal Brother, don’t say I didn’t warn you.

If you have anything to say, you only have this one time to tell your imperial father.

I can promise you, this is the last time you’ll see him.

After this, there won’t be any other opportunities.

Greetings Imperial Father.

I heard that...

for A’Wu, you came back to the palace.

- Yes. - I don’t have a son like you.

Get out! I don’t want to ever see you again!

A’Wu blames me.

Imperial Father also blames me.

But, Imperial Father, even if I’m outside the palace

planning a counterattack, what use is there to that?

The Xie clan will still decline.

Even the vigorous Wang Clan can’t defeat Zilu.

What more can I do?

Imperial Father knows that I never coveted the throne.

I just wanted, during times of trouble,

to be by Imperial Father and A’Wu’s side.

Completely innocent meeting death with dignity and pride.

Completely innocent?

Meeting death with dignity and pride?

That A’Wu didn’t marry you... is her good fortune.

You don’t fear death.

But you didn’t think whether she wanted to die or not!

Not even fearing death, but not even trying to put up a fight for the one you love.

I was a fool.

To think I was going to give everything to you.

It’s both lamentable and regrettable.

Imperial Father, you’re not me.

How could you know that I didn’t want it

when everyone in the palace tries to outwit the other?

The struggle for power in the court is so vile and despicable.

I just wanted to go far away.

I didn’t wish to have any part in this.

But you’ve already lost that power you loathe so much.

You’ve also lost A’Wu.

You will never get either of them back in this lifetime.

Imperial Father, please tell me explicitly.

What should I do now?

What...

else can I do?

The world.

Your Highness the Third Prince, you’ll have to be inconvenienced for a while.

To the imperial prison!

How long has His Highness the Third Prince been gone?

Replying to Princess Consort. He has been gone for several hours now.

Do not worry, Princess Consort.

Perhaps His Majesty required Third Prince’s assistance by his sickbed.

Will you only be willing to return to my side

once I’ve gained control of the world?

Mi’er, in a few days, this harem will be yours.

Zilu.

I’m just worried that

I will drag you down.

If it wasn’t for you,

this world is what use to me?

The world and its people do not concern me.

Let’s just us go crazy, then.

You only want me.

I only want you.

That’s enough.

Second Prince.

What is it?

Reporting to Second Prince. I’ve just received a messenger pigeon from Prince Jianning.

The message says that Prince Yuzhang is trapped in Guiwu Valley.

He and Duke Huan met inside while attacking each other outside. They plan to launch a large-scale attack in three days’ time.

According to my calculations, it takes around 2-3 days for a messenger to reach us here.

Prince Jianning and Duke Huan will launch the attack either today or tomorrow.

Good. Very good.

- You’re dismissed. - Yes.

Wait!

Let them prepare that in two days from now,

I want a grand wedding.

His Highness the Second Prince told this insignificant one to bring you this divorce letter.

Mistress Huan drafted it.

Heir Apparent Wang, please kindly accept it.

Two days from now, it will be Second Prince and Mistress Huan’s grand wedding.

His Highness is giving his special favor

and has invited Prime Minister and Heir Apparent to the wedding.

Divorce paper?

I don’t agree.

Huan Mi is my wife.

She wants to marry Zilu?

Tell them to dream on.

This... Prime Minister.

This insignificant one is simply the messenger.

You tell Second Prince that I will most certainly be there to congratulate him.

Open the gates.

General Song, all you have to do is sign and make your mark on this document.

Testify to this act of treason.

Say that this was all due to Prince and Princess Consort Yuzhang

conspiring with Prime Minister against the state.

Then I will put in a few good words for you

when I meet His Highness the Second Prince.

This way, not only will you be exempt from punishment,

you might even be promoted three ranks higher.

Glory, splendor, wealth, and a high rank! A delicate wife and beautiful concubines!

General! Take the letter!

General, General! It all sounds very tempting!

Let me take a look at it. Let me take a look at it!

Good. That’s good.

General Song, please have a look.

My hands... are bound.

How... am I going to sign it?

- All right. Guards. - Here.

Loosen General Song’s bonds.

Yes.

General Song, sign it.

Guards! Quickly! Guards! Don’t let him escape.

Don’t move!

I gave you face but you refused to accept it. You’re refusing a toast only to be forced to drink a forfeit.

Since you’ve made your decision, don’t blame me for what I’m about to do.

Guards! Assist General Song in signing his name.

Yes.

Princess Consort, in the end, I still failed to live up to the trust you put in me.

I might have even ended up harming you.

Who is it?

Replying to Princess Consort.

Please do not be afraid, Princess Consort. This subordinate of yours is Shen Wei.

I have come here on Prime Minister’s orders.

You’re a Covert Guard who serves the Wang Clan?

Taoist Priest Qingyun?

Why is it you?

Princess Consort, you may not be aware of this.

This subordinate of yours was installed in the palace

by Prime Minister when the valiant emperor ascended the throne.

I have always been by the emperor’s side, hidden in the shadows.

I have come to you today on Prime Minister’s orders.

Father isn’t in prison?

How can you see him?

This subordinate sent someone to devise ways and means

so I could communicate with Prime Minister.

Prime Minister ordered us to quickly meet with you, Princess Consort,

and listen to your orders.

How many people are on the inside?

Replying to Princess. Wang Covert Guards in the palace are divided into enormously complex branches.

All of the troops of the Covert Guard are under the Prime Minister’s personal command.

As for how many other people, I don’t know.

All I know is, there are 26 people in my area.

Princess Consort, did you call for me?

Do you have any instructions for me?

There’s nothing.

You should go and rest as well.

Yes, Princess Consort.

Princess Consort, if you need anything, just call for me.

- Princess Consort. - Do you have a way to communicate with others outside the palace?

I think there is only one method we can try.

It’s just... If I say it, I might defile your ears.

You might as well be direct.

One of my people is among those who transport the night-waste out of the palace. (Note: Term used here is “nocturnal fragrance”)

It just so happens this person will be put to good use today.

Good.

Tomorrow, you will tell this person to sneak into Prince Yuzhang’s manor and look for General Song Huai’en.

Tell him to mobilize his troops in three days’ time.

If General Song is not there, then this person must think of a way to get to General Wei Han.

This person might be able to help as well.

Yes, Princess Consort.

This subordinate will definitely do his utmost.

Your Highness, Linliang Pass is just 30 li ahead of us.

The problem is, I don’t know if the guards at Linliang Pass are our friends or foes.

We’ll know once we get there.

Imperial Bodyguard Pang, you’ve only just come out of danger.

The physician said you have to remain in bed and recuperate.

These minor wounds are nothing. Help me leave the prince’s manor.

No!

General Song already left me instructions before he left.

He told me you must be kept safe and that absolutely nothing must happen to you.

I am to take good care of you and I must not make any mistakes.

How about this?

I won’t leave, but you’ll have to run an errand for me. Is that all right?

What is it?

I need you to go to the side entrance and blow this whistle repeatedly until someone comes to find you.

Then bring that person to me.

This... But where’s the sound part?

Naturally, you will not be able to hear it. Go, quickly.

You must not delay our great plans.

Did Imperial Bodyguard Pang hurt his head?

How can anyone come looking for me if they can’t hear the sound of this whistle?

I’ve been blowing on that whistle all day long. Not even a bird has made an appearance.

Take me to the person who gave you that whistle.

Follow me.

- My name is Zi Yi. - I am Pang Gui.

I have come from the palace under Princess Consort Yuzhang’s orders

and I’m looking for General Song Huai’en.

The servants told me General Song left the manor a few nights ago.

He still has not returned. How is Princess Consort?

If there is any news, my Covert Guards will think of a way to transmit it out of the city.

The Princess Consort is fine, although she has been confined inside Fengchi Palace.

But she is not in any real danger at the moment.

Right now, His Highness the Second Prince has gained control of the Imperial Court.

The prime minister, the empress, and the crown prince have all been imprisoned.

In two days’ time, His Highness the Second Prince will marry Heir Apparent’s consort.

A grand banquet will be held in the palace on that day.

Once the banquet is over, a foul wind and a rain of blood will descend upon the palace.

Report! Report!

Report!

Reporting to you, General. Someone entrusted by your younger sister wishes to meet you.

- My younger sister? - Yes, Sir.

- Invite him over, quickly! - Yes, Sir!

General Wei.

Garrison guards of Linliang, listen up!

Prince Yuzhang has greatly defeated Prince Jianning’s rebel forces!

We are returning back to the Imperial Court in triumph! Open the city gates immediately!

Wasn’t Prince Jianning the one who was supposed to come?

- Why is Prince Yuzhang here instead? - How am I supposed to know?

Quick! Report this to the general!

Yes.

General!

Why are you shouting?

This is an urgent matter. This subordinate dares not withhold a report.

Prince Yuzhang and his troops have arrived at the pass.

They have triumphed and are now returning to the capital. They are requesting to clear the pass.

What? Prince Yuzhang?

Didn’t that messenger from the capital say Prince Jianning was the one who was going to enter the pass?

General, look down there if you don’t believe me.

Open the city gates immediately!

Bring me my armor.

I have orders from above to only allow Prince Jianning to pass through.

Prince Yuzhang must not be allowed to pass!

Yes.

You should consider this once more.

Even tens of thousands of Prince Jianning’s own troops could not hold him back.

But you think your old, weak, and disabled men can stop him?

Don’t you think you’re being foolish?

Wouldn’t it be like throwing an egg at a boulder? (Idiom: Futile to attack another much stronger than oneself)

You are right, My Lady.

Prince Yuzhang is our nation’s God of War.

Even Prince Jianning was not worthy of being his opponent.

How can this smattering of troops at Linliang Pass stop him?

One more thing. You need to quickly send a messenger to the capital

and report this to His Highness the Second Prince.

That way, if His Highness the Second Prince emerges victorious,

we’ll still have an alternative route out of this predicament.

If they don’t open the gates in an hour, we will attack the city.

General...

Open the city gates!

Isn’t he supposed to have tens of thousands of cavalry?

Why does he only have these few troops under his command?

We’ve been deceived.

This servant is deserving of death! This servant is deserving of death!

- Guards! Take her away! - Wait a moment.

What are you doing?

His Highness the Second Prince gave us instructions.

Anyone who gets too close to you must die. Drag her away and behead her!

- Please spare me, Princess Consort! - Stop.

General, His Highness the Second Prince is getting married in two days.

I’m sure you wouldn’t wish him to be tainted by bad luck, would you?

And besides, she only bumped into me accidentally.

Yes, Princess Consort.

I thank you very much, Your Highness! I thank you very much, Your Highness!

Go away, quickly!

- Princess Consort. - Princess Consort.

You may all be dismissed first. I wish to be alone for a while.

- Yes, Your Highness. - Yes, Your Highness.

[Prepared]

General, someone is coming.

It’s people from the outside western fringes of the city.

[West Gate]

Are you the ones from the city?

I am Lu Feng from the Western Outlying Garrison.

I have an urgent message.

General Lu, why did you come here instead of protecting the camp?

I must enter. I have an urgent message for His Royal Highness, the Second Prince.

General Wei, please don’t make this difficult. Open the gates.

General Lu, please wait. I will open the gates for you.

I thank You, General Wei.

[West Gate]

What do you want to do?

General Wei, I have an urgent message for the Second Prince! Why are you stopping me?

Is it to rebel?

I, General Wei, am loyal to the country

and will protect the emperor!

Take them!

Greetings Your Royal Highness.

Your Highness, you can’t go in.

According to tradition, you may only see her in the bridal chamber tonight.

Otherwise, it is considered unlucky.

Tradition? Unlucky?

Zilu, don’t come in.

Mi’er, do you believe in such superstitions?

Believe in the goodness of all things even if we can’t see each other for a short while.

We will be together forever.

Don’t be so anxious.

All right, I will listen to you.

Please, slow down

Mistress, we are going to see his Royal Highness.

Mistress, please sit down.

Older Sister A’Feng.

Let’s go.

Come on! Let’s go.

Princess Consort! Princess Consort! Princess Consort!

Princess Consort...

By order of His Royal Highness the Second Prince, Princess Consort Yuzhang must attend his wedding ceremony.

It’s a happy occasion, I will be happy to attend.

Your Highness, please.

You are here. I have been waiting for you for a long time.

You’re all dressed up.

Your Majesty is splendidly dressed today.

Very good!

This is what an emperor looks like in my mind.

What a pity.

This is your last time as such.

Your Majesty, where is the imperial edict.

[Imperial Edict]

Your Majesty, I thank you!

I wonder if Your Majesty wrote the decree yourself.

How do you feel about giving it to your adopted son?

Hold on.

Why? Is there anything else?

Don’t you think it will be

more believable if I read this imperial decree?

His Royal Highness is going to marry Duke Huan’s daughter.

What is going on?

How scandalous!

Princess Consort Yuzhang is here.

[Taiji Hall]

It is said that this time

the Second Prince is going to marry Wang Su’s consort.
