[Rebel Princess]

[Episode 21]

Back in the day, it was because of marrying me that he

was able to depend on the power and influence of my Wang Clan and eventually ascend the throne.

If he wishes to appoint another heir apparent,

he must first ask for the Wang family’s approval.

What tyranny.

How tyrannical you are!

You and your elder brother are exactly the same!

What’s wrong with Zilong becoming the emperor?

Take a look at the current emperor.

He’s half crazy, half stupid.

Is he still able to wield power over the nation and control his subjects?

The emperor was harmed... by your Wang family.

Don’t say anything else.

Even if I, Wen Zongshen, were to die,

I would not betray the emperor and cooperate with you.

Wen Zongshen, since you mistake my good intentions for evil,

don’t blame me for being merciless.

Zilong is my son.

As long as he can become the emperor,

even if the opponent is you, I will never become soft-hearted.

Prince, there’s good news.

What good news is there?

A sentinel from the rearguard has arrived with a report.

He says Duke Huan has sent a transport of some army provisions over here.

Duke Huan?

He’s apparently following Prime Minister’s orders. That actually makes sense to me.

Duke Huan and Prime Minister are also in-laws.

In the crucial moments, you still have to rely on your own people.

When can we expect the rations and fodder?

We should be receiving them over the next few days.

Your Highness, then tomorrow...

What about tomorrow?

W-We don’t have to withdraw our forces, do we?

Your Majesty.

I’m not eating it.

Your Majesty, Her Majesty the Empress ordered me to make you eat it.

- After eating it, you’ll recover from your sickness. - I am tired today.

Your Majesty. Your Majesty, please get up!

Your Majesty. Your Majesty.

- I won’t eat it! - You have no say in the matter anymore, Your Majesty.

Your Majesty.

Your Majesty, here.

Be good. Your Majesty, it’ll get better once you eat it.

- Hurry up and eat it! - What are you doing!

Princess Consort, I was ordered by Her Majesty the Empress to assist the emperor in taking his medicine.

Did the empress order you to force His Majesty like this?

I don’t have any other choice.

Leave.

Princess Consort, His Majesty still hasn’t eaten his medicine.

Leave!

Uncle, only a year has passed.

How have you become like this?

It’s all my fault.

I shouldn’t have left the imperial city.

I shouldn’t have left you.

If I had been here,

you wouldn’t have had to endure this kind of mistreatment.

Uncle, I’m A’Wu.

A’Wu is here.

Can you recognize me?

I’m A’Wu.

It’s good that you’re here.

You’ve suffered greatly.

A’Wu.

I heard you contracted...

Hysteria, am I right?

I am not hysterical.

My mind is clear.

What does that mean?

If I had not pretended, I would’ve ceased to live already.

I can deceive everyone else,

but you.

What in the world is going on?

A’Wu...

There’s something... I must tell you.

Back then, what Xie Yuan, Xu Shou, and Du Meng did...

I consented to it all.

It was you...

who planned to kill Xiao Qi and me?

This is a power struggle.

Your father is a powerful minister.

Your husband is a powerful general.

They are both threats to the imperial throne.

Whoever sits on the throne,

will find a way to eliminate them.

Xie Yuan,

Xu Shou, and Du Meng.

They were all arrows you implemented to shoot at Xiao Qi?

A’Wu, the emperor is the emperor. Your uncle is your uncle.

What an emperor must do, I am unwilling to do as your uncle.

Can you forgive your uncle?

♫ The winds and clouds have not dissipated ♫

Princess Consort, what’s the matter?

It’s nothing.

No, there must be something on your mind. I can tell.

What can you see through?

I am a servant, I shouldn’t have asked.

It’s just that you’ve been downcast ever since you left Shiqian Hall.

What’s wrong? I’m worried.

I never would’ve thought the emperor...

Emperor Uncle’s sickness was so serious.

I feel so upset about it.

Princess Consort, don’t be too worried.

The palace has so many imperial physicians,

I’m sure they will cure the emperor.

Greetings, Little Princess.

You—

I am Xue Dao’an.

Eunuch Xue?

What has... happened to you?

Princess, I have been wronged.

Quickly get up.

What’s happened?

Little Princess, all you have to do is meet with Her Majesty the Empress,

and all will become clear.

Empress!

Your Majesty the Empress, Princess Consort Yuzhang has arrived.

Her facial expression doesn’t look too good.

A’Wu is here?

Greetings, Princess Consort.

Imperial Aunt.

Quickly get up.

A’Wu, I missed you so much.

It’s been so long, you haven’t come to see me.

I’ve missed you constantly as well, Auntie.

Come.

- He has a knife! - Demon Empress!

Empress, be careful!

Senior Maidservant Liao!

Demon Empress! I must kill you today!

A’Wu. A’Wu!

Yu Xiu!

A’Wu. A’Wu!

Princess, move away!

You are harming your nation by shielding her!

Your Majesty, I...

A’Wu!

- A’Wu. - Don’t cry.

- It’s over. - A’Wu.

Don’t be frightened, Auntie.

- Why isn’t the imperial doctor here? - I’ll go see.

Princess Consort, Imperial Physician Shen has arrived.

Quickly come in.

Greetings Princess Consort.

How is Senior Maidservant Liao?

Already passed away.

Quickly look at Yu Xiu.

All right.

Princess Consort, it’s better if you go.

All right.

Give me the powdered medicine to staunch the bleeding.

How is it, Imperial Physician?

Princess Consort, please wait a while.

Replying to Princess Consort.

The assassin was extremely ruthless.

Her wound is very deep and it is very close to the arteries near her heart.

Also, she has been bleeding excessively.

I’m afraid...

I’m afraid her chances of survival are very slim.

Please, Imperial Physician Shen, you must do your utmost to save her.

You can rest assured, Princess Consort.

This old subject will definitely spare no effort!

You lost your life because of me.

You’ve been so loyal and devoted to me.

Now that you’re gone, I’ll be next.

Your Majesty, this is a medicinal soup the imperial physician concocted to help soothe your nerves.

Get lost! All of you, get lost!

You craven and cowardly servants.

All of you were hoping I would die!

All of you hate me!

Get lost! Get lost, all of you!

Auntie...

What’s the matter?

Everything’s fine now. It’s all in the past now.

Don’t be frightened, Auntie.

I’ll keep you company.

- Everything’s fine. - A’Wu...

If you had not saved me,

I would have lost my life today.

All of them hate me.

A’Wu, do you hate me?

Auntie, stop overthinking matters.

Auntie, see,

when Elder Brother, our crown prince, ascends the throne,

you will become the most respected mother in the entire world.

No one will dare to harm you.

Elder Brother, our crown prince, will protect you.

That’s right.

My princely son will ascend the throne soon.

I will watch as he sits upon the Dragon’s Seat

and see him become a good emperor who will garner praise throughout the ages.

But... he hates me.

All of them hate me!

He’d rather die than beg me for help or help me in return.

And there’s him, too...

He’s turned his back on me my whole life

and now he wants to depose me.

He wants to depose both me and his son!

I don’t know where I’ve gone wrong,

I, who has been concerned for him my whole life.

I’ve been so patient and accommodating toward him,

but... what did he make me do?

What else can I do?

Auntie!

Your Majesty.

- What’s the matter with the empress? - Her Majesty has been behaving like this only recently.

The imperial physicians cannot cure her and the Buddhist monks and Taoist priests do not have any other alternatives either.

The palace servants say the vengeful spirit of Noble Consort Xie is tormenting the empress.

- What absolute drivel! - This servant deserves death!

- Quickly go and fetch some medicine for Auntie! - Yes, Your Highness!

Anyone who hinders Zilong from ascending the throne must be killed!

Must be killed... Must be killed...

She treated me like one of her pawns.

She pushed me out with her own hands.

She lied to me and abandoned me.

Perhaps I resented her before.

I don’t really know if I should treat her as the empress,

or as my paternal aunt.

But at that moment, when the tip of the blade flew toward her,

I voluntarily shielded her body from it.

I did not even hesitate for one second.

“I will set your zither before you; all shall be peaceful and good.” (Poem “The Lady Says” from “The Book of Songs • Airs of Zheng”)

“The youthful Wen and Huanxi must shoot the wild-ducks and wild-geese.” (The scriptwriters have altered the poem slightly)

A’Wu!

Father.

A’Wu!

A’Wu, don’t be afraid, Father is here. Don’t be afraid.

As long as you’re safe. As long as you’re safe.

Please let my imperial mother get better soon.

Please make pass all these terrible things happening.

It’s good that the empress did not get hurt.

Let her have a good rest.

A’Wu, you say the assassin was the emperor’s Eunuch Xue.

Is it because she demoted him to the Prayer Hall

and he still held a grudge?

It’s not that simple.

Xue Dao’an was in the palace for so many years.

He’s been loyal to the emperor.

Why would he suddenly do something that he’d certainly lose his life over?

That day I was also at Shiqian Hall.

Eunuch Xue secretly swapped the elixir pill that Imperial Father takes every day.

Imperial Mother considered his merits serving the emperor over the years and only punished him with hard labor.

But this bastard was so spiteful.

Excessive tendency leads to clemency. This type of servant has been spoiled too much.

He should have been immediately beaten to death.

Zhaoyang Palace is usually heavily guarded.

He wouldn’t normally have had a chance.

He must’ve planned this for a long time, using your return to the palace as an opportunity.

He made you into a distraction in order to go into the back palace.

It’s too kind to even throw him into the burial mound.

If I had known of this before, I would’ve cut him up into pieces.

Long’er? Time to ascend the throne.

Imperial Mother

Imperial Mother.

I’m here.

Auntie’s mind is muddled.

After being startled, she keeps saying nonsense things.

Saying nonsense things?

What kind of nonsense things?

Did other people hear?

Only me.

She mumbled, so I didn’t hear right.

The Empress worked hard every day...

Losing her mind after a scare... that’s all right.

It was all thanks to Yu Xiu today.

Otherwise, I wouldn’t have seen you.

Yes, lucky.

Greetings, Emperor. Greetings, Second Prince.

Prime Minister.

Zitan, it’s your turn.

Come sit, it’s your turn.

Imperial Father, I am Zilu.

It’s your turn.

Prime Minister, Imperial Father’s delusions are becoming more serious.

I am slow and don’t know what else to do

except to play chess with him and make him happy.

Second Prince is so filial.

His Majesty must certainly feel it.

Prime Minister, is there something you need to report to Imperial Father?

- I will withdraw first if that is the case. - It’s all right.

This subject is here today to report an incident to Your Majesty.

Just now, an assassin tried to murder

the empress and Princess Consort Yuzhang at Zhaoyang Hall.

Are the empress and Princess Consort all right?

They are both safe, thanks to His Majesty’s great blessing.

Who is the assassin? How could he be so daring!

The assassin is someone we know.

He is Xue Dao’an, the eunuch who used to serve His Imperial Majesty.

Xue Dao’an?

Prime Minister, where is he now?

He was already stabbed to death by spears and his corpse has been tossed into a random burial mound outside the city.

Is it... my turn? Or is it...

your turn?

This servant actually tried to assassinate his mistress.

He was let off too lightly, dying the way he did.

It’s your turn.

Your Majesty, it’s time for you to take the elixir.

Eunuch Jin, leave it here

and I will feed it to His Majesty later.

This...

Your Highness the Second Prince, His Majesty’s imperial health is of great importance.

I dare not delay his dosage.

It’s your turn.

I’m going to win.

Imperial Father, we have to stop playing chess now.

It’s time for you to take the elixir.

Zitan,

carry on playing. It’s your turn.

I need to answer the call of nature.

I need to answer the call of nature.

Leave it to me, Eunuch Jin.

Come! Imperial Father, be careful.

Imperial Father, are you all right?

A’Wu.

- Zitan? - A’Wu.

I heard there was a commotion at the palace so I rushed over to see you.

Thank you for your concern, Your Highness the Third Prince.

Are you hurt? Let me take a look.

I’m fine.

A’Wu!

Prince Yuzhang is unavailable today and is not at home.

It would be inconvenient to invite you inside as a guest.

I beg your pardon.

Third Prince, let’s return to the manor.

- Eunuch Jin. - Your Highness.

I will serve my imperial father here.

Then I will have to thank you for your trouble, Your Highness the Second Prince.

Imperial Father.

Imperial Father.

Kneel down.

Kneel down for me now.

Imperial Father.

That year on the first day of the Spring Festival, the assassination attempt on Zitan,

Gu Yong was killed by Zilong,

and Xie Wanru was humiliated in Guanghau Hall.

It was all planned by you, right?

Imperial Father!

How dare you!

If it wasn’t for Xie Yuan’s final report,

I’m afraid I would have been deceived by you, too.

I am so ashamed. I was a scoundrel.

But everything that I did was to fight against the Wang Clan.

If it wasn’t for this recent action, I can spare you.

Get up.

Thank you, Imperial Father.

Xue Dao’an had served me for more than 30 years.

He was always loyal to me,

then he had to die so tragically.

I am determined to take revenge on the Wang Clan for this.

Imperial Father.

If you really want to avenge him,

you must be patient at this time.

Take action later when Wang Lin is unprepared.

I will secretly help you regain power.

Princess Consort!

No need for ceremony.

Why did you go out alone today?

Where is Miss Yu Xiu? She is always by your side.

Yu Xiu was seriously injured trying to save me today.

I left her in the palace for medical treatment.

Your Highness was in danger in the palace?

Are you all right?

I’m fine.

But Yu Xiu is seriously injured.

The imperial doctor said it will be hard for her to survive.

If she...

I hope the heavens will bless her and keep her safe.

Your Highness, don’t worry.

Yu Xiu has a strong will, she will get through this.

Your Highness must be hungry.

Go and prepare the meal for Her Highness.

Yes.

Your Highness, someone from the palace said that Yu Xiu is not doing well.

What?

It’s unexpected that among the three sons,

you are the most courageous and resourceful.

Zilong and Zitan,

since childhood, they both had their mothers by their side.

But I had no mother.

So I can only...

It’s my fault that I caused grievances for you.

I’m the one who knows best about my own health.

It’s the end of the crossbow.

I just want to use the last of my strength

to remove the Wang siblings.

It’s a pity, the Xie family fell.

Wen Zongzhen is in prison,

Wang Lin holds all the power in the court.

In addition,

he also has a son-in-law who has great military power.

The Ma family’s empire

will be the Wang family’s soon.

No!

Imperial Father, don’t give up yet.

The current situation is that we are in the shadows and the enemy is not.

If Imperial Father is willing to write a secret missive to seize the traitors and thieves,

I am willing to send people to take it to all the imperial relatives and clansmen.

I’m sure they will all respond to destroy the traitors and solve your woes.

Be careful, Imperial Father.

Thank you, Second Prince.

Your Majesty, it’s time to rest.

Allow me to bring you to bed.

Go.

Zitan.

I am here.

I am tired, I need to rest now.

Come back tomorrow.

Yes.

I take my leave.

Second Prince,

your filial heart includes Third Prince?

It’s my duty to Imperial Father.

It’s nothing.

Imperial Physician Shen, what is wrong?

Your Highness, Miss Yu Xiu has a continuous high fever.

Suddenly, she also had trouble breathing.

I am afraid she might not make it to the morning.

So I asked someone to tell Prince Yuzhang’s Manor.

It’s also for Your Highness to prepare.

I don’t want to prepare. I want her to live!

That...

Stone needle technique!

The stone needle technique might save her life.

But this technique is too savage.

I’m afraid her body can’t take it.

If you don’t use this technique, then nothing will save her?

Yes.

Then use it.

Yes.

Your Highness, if within two days Miss Yu Xiu’s fever still hasn’t receded,

then even if Hua Tuo were here, (T/N: Hua Tuo - famous ancient physician)

he wouldn’t be able to do anything more.
