Reporting to Your Highness. A pigeon brought news from Ningshuo.

Prince Yuzhang has already sent troops to fight Jianning.

Princess Consort Yuzhang is on her way back to the capital.

Guards!

Master.

Send this to Huizhou.

Hand this to Governor Wu Qian.

Send this one as fast as possible to the Prince of Jianning.

Yes, Master.

Your Highness, why are you constantly sighing?

At first, it was unbearable to recall leaving Huizhou.

Ever since then I’ve been apart from Jin’er.

Now I don’t even know where she is.

Even though I never met Elder Sister Jin’er,

I’ve heard Your Highness often talk about her. The heavens will protect her.

Governor Wu of Huizhou welcomes Your Highness to the city.

Governor Wu has worked hard.

Before, I didn’t do my best at protecting Your Highness,

which caused Your Highness to be kidnapped by villains.

I... I...

It happened unexpectedly.

The villains’ plan was thorough. Don’t blame yourself too much.

Your Highness is generous. I’m extremely grateful!

Your Highness welcome back to the city!

[Huizhou]

This does not seem like the road to the regional manor.

General Song, this way, please!

Please go this way!

Stop!

Governor Wu! Where are you taking Her Highness?

Your Highness.

Why are we not heading toward the city center?

General Song and the soldiers must be tired after such a long way.

I’ve already prepared some wine and food

at the post station to entertain you.

I will personally escort Her Highness to the regional manor.

I don’t dare separate from Her Highness wherever she goes.

General Song, you may not know but the regional manor is Her Highness’s living quarters.

I’m afraid it’s improper for strangers to bother her.

How can General Song and Governor Wu be considered strangers?

I want to invite you both to the regional manor to taste from a secret stash of my hometown’s wine.

This...

My thanks to Your Highness for your hospitality.

It’s just that there are many escort soldiers and that may cause too much noise.

I’m afraid they may disturb Your Highness’s peace.

Governor Wu made a good joke.

Her Highness understands our hard work and will host a banquet for us.

As to how that is arranged, we will naturally follow her wishes.

The wine and entertainment are already prepared at the post station.

When did Governor Wu become so stubborn?

General Song worked hard throughout the journey.

Why can he not enjoy a meal with us?

This... Don’t be angry, Your Highness.

Your Highness was previously kidnapped,

this lowly official has to be more cautious now.

I have arranged for more people to protect Your Highness.

Your Highness, please.

Turn back!

General Song! General Song!

General Song! General Song!

Let’s go.

Quickly! Quickly!

[Esteemed Virtuous Humane Gathering]

We have been traveling all day. I have a bit of a headache.

Stop! Stop! Stop!

General Song, why are we stopping again?

Princess Consort!

Governor, in the past few days, Her Highness has traveled too quickly and suddenly feels ill.

She is feeling nauseous and needs to send General Song to the city to get medicine.

This... We’re almost there.

General Song, Wu Qian is plotting something. You have to find a way to get us out of here.

But if we are surrounded, don’t try to force our way through.

Take this to the Lanyue Manor on the city’s southern outskirts.

My uncle has stationed the Wang clan’s soldiers there.

Tell them to request backup from the capital.

And also send people to let the prince know.

- You must be careful. - Yes!

General Song! General Song!

Governor Wu Qian of Huizhou is revolting. Take him away!

Close the gate! Shut the gate quickly!

Capture all of them! Don’t let a single one escape!

Princess Consort, do not be afraid.

Absolutely do not harm Princess Consort Yuzhang! Keep her alive!

Protect Princess Consort!

Brothers, charge!

Capture Wang Xuan! Do not let her escape!

Step aside.

Princess Consort, get out of the carriage.

Prince, I took some people to take inventory of the remaining traces left by Prince Jianning’s army.

There are about 15,000 camp stoves.

They must have been in a rush to get ahead of us and didn’t clean up completely.

Even if it’s 10 soldiers to a stove,

that’s still only 150,000 of the men in the Jianning Army.

The military reports say that they have 200,000 men.

That is the problem.

There are still 50 thousand men that split off from the main army.

Why did Prince Jianning split them up?

We’ve long heard that Prince Jianning is a brilliant general.

He only left the capital because he failed to ascend to the throne during the last succession.

Now, it looks like he can be quite calculating.

In my opinion, who cares how many ways he split up his army.

The most important thing is to understand his intentions.

Prince Jianning has only one goal...

the capital.

Because our Ningshuo army is here, he doesn’t dare to hastily attack the capital.

It doesn’t matter what tricks he is up to,

what he wants is to delay us here.

Prince is talking about Linliang Pass.

That place is supported by the Yangtze River, so it’s easy to defend but difficult to attack.

Isn’t Governor Wu Qian of Huizhou a disciple of the prime minister?

If he’s there, crossing the Yangtze River would be easy as pie. Right?

Great Prince, I think we should travel through the night.

As long as Prince Jianning hasn’t passed Guanzhou,

we can catch up to him.

At that time, he’ll be facing enemies on both sides and it would solve the problem of Linliang Pass.

Usually, if we traveled through the night,

we would have caught up to Prince Jianning last night.

But from the looks of the remaining stoves today,

he’s ahead of us by at least 2 days.

Urgent report! Prince!

- Urgent reports from Guanzhou. - Read it.

“Governor of Guanzhou is colluding with Prince Jianning. They’ve opened up the city gates.

Prince Jianning has already passed through Guanzhou and is heading toward Linliang Pass.”

- Let me go! - Song Huai’en!

We have the Princess Consort here! Put down your arms.

General Song, quickly leave!

We can’t leave! Brothers, we have to rescue Princess Consort even if we die doing it!

Song Huai’en, get away now!

Princess Consort!

Song Huai’en, I command you to retreat immediately.

Retreat!

Quickly!

Quick! Don’t let them get away!

General Song, there are a few more people!

General Song, we saw the signal and killed our way here immediately.

Two of us died on the way.

Brothers!

You must all deeply remember the names of those who died.

Prince will definitely treat their remaining families well!

Yes!

How many of you have gathered?

About 300. One hundred are already on the way.

We’ll send three people with messages to the prince and to the capital.

Tell them that Wu Qian revolted and Princess Consort is in danger.

Yes.

I have to temporarily leave.

If I am not back by noonday tomorrow,

everyone is to do whatever it takes to protect Princess Consort.

Understand?

- Yes! - Yes!

Given our past friendship,

I can let you temporarily stay here.

But you cannot leave here at will

and cause a disturbance.

You studied under my father for many years. He treated you well.

Now, you’ve betrayed him and confined me here.

It’s all because you were in danger in Huizhou.

I personally went to the capital to seek punishment.

But your father not only humiliated me,

but he also wanted to remove me from my post.

He crossed over the line.

What has happened to you today is all due to your domineering and overbearing father!

With my help, Prince Jianning will kill his way into the capital in a few days!

At that time, the power of your Wang family will collapse.

Do you think working with Prince Jianning can overcome Prince Yuzhang’s Ningshuo army?

Prince Jianning was leading a northern army

before your Prince Yuzhang even joined the army.

Even if Prince Yuzhang’s army is not here yet,

don’t even think you will succeed.

Does Princess Consort not know that Guanzhou has also already defected?

If you don’t believe me, you can wait for a few more days.

Once Prince Jianning crosses the river and enters the city,

he can direct his army straight through the Linliang Pass and enter the capital.

At that time, a new emperor will be enthroned.

I’d like to see how your father will die then.

Come.

Arrogant and overbearing Princess Consort Yuzhang,

famous Princess Shangyang of a noble clan,

this humble official will serve you tea.

Please.

You!

You! You crazy wench!

Scram.

Crazy wench!

Princess Consort, what do we do?

Crazy wench.

Crazy wench. What a crazy wench!

If it wasn’t for Prince Jianning...

If Prince Jianning hadn’t told me to keep you alive, I would have already...

All people of the Wang Clan should be murdered!

- Master! - Madame!

What are you doing?

Marquis Xie!

Marquis Xie, if I have done anything improperly,

please tell me!

Please don’t hurt my wife!

I didn’t imagine Governor Wu to be a sentimental person.

My wife is the treasure of my home. She shouldn’t be killed.

If you want to kill, please kill me as wel—

Patriarch!

All right. Get up.

I thank you!

Where’s Wang Xuan?

Oh, Wang Xuan?

You don’t know. This Wang Xuan is so wily.

Thank the gods she didn’t get away.

Now, she is being confined to the estate.

I have already arranged a fool-proof plan.

No one can rescue her.

You used the 10,000 soldiers in Huizhou,

yet you let 500 Ningshuo soldiers get away in the chaos.

Those Ningshuo soldiers have scattered.

But this humble official has ordered this city sealed off

and also sent the best of the army to search for them.

Even if we have to turn the entire city upside down,

we will catch them all.

- I hope you accomplish what you say. - I will. I will.

As for that woman...

Keeping her will cause big problems.

Kill her.

The people in your manor are all my allies now.

If you play any tricks, don’t blame me for being merciless.

[Lanyue Country Manor]

Hold on!

General Mou.

Dismissed.

Yes.

Princess Consort, Madam Wu has come.

Who?

Madam Wu.

I deserve to die. I have betrayed you, Princess Consort.

I have betrayed you, Princess Consort. I—

Madam Wu... go back.

I have no right to meet with Your Highness.

My husband made a big mistake.

I am ashamed in front of Your Highness.

It was your husband. What can you do?

Yu Xiu, escort her out.

Princess Consort! Princess Consort! Princess Consort, I will leave immediately.

But please listen and let me finish.

Someone asked my husband to kill you.

They plan to do it in the next day or two.

Princess Consort, you must be very careful.

Where did you get this information?

I heard it with my own ears.

Ever since you were kidnapped the last time,

I have been feeling guilty all this time.

Now, my husband has confined Your Highness here.

I feel deeply guilty in my heart, so I especially came to tell you this.

So I came to warn you even though you might not believe me. Please be careful.

If what you say is true,

you will be rewarded sooner or later.

Auntie, it’s getting late. Uncle will be back very soon. [Mou Lian - Senior Military Officer of Huizhou]

Princess Consort, I must leave now.

Who is outside?

Don’t worry, Princess Consort. He’s my nephew from my maiden home.

He’s a general amongst the garrison guards under my husband.

This child is kind and admires the prince.

He won’t make your life difficult.

Your nephew is Mou...

Mou Lian.

Princess Consort, do you still remember this child?

- Lian’er - Auntie.

Take care of Princess Consort Yuzhang.

Don’t worry, Auntie.

Farewell, Auntie.

General Mou, please stay a minute.

Do you mind coming in for a chat?

Please, Princess Consort.

Princess Consort.

Your living quarters are inside.

It is inappropriate for me to enter.

You still see me as the princess consort.

So I will come straight out and say a few words.

Please, Princess Consort.

General Mou, do you know your crime?

You are a general of the nation.

You do not serve the nation, yet you defected to the rebels.

This is disloyal.

Although you sided with the rebels, you’re disobeying your orders and secretly helping me.

This is insincere.

You are a talented man.

Why are you acting disloyally and insincerely?

Princess Consort is not wrong. My uncle has already committed a grave crime.

I also followed his orders and I’m also involved.

My goal was to protect the country.

My actions are disloyal and insincere.

Everyone will consider them despicable.

General, it is not easy to sharpen a sword for ten years.

You haven’t even entered the battlefield.

Why are you working against righteousness?

Prince Yuzhang will arrive in the city in a few days.

From what your auntie said, you admire Prince Yuzhang.

Do you want to be on the opposite side from him?

Think carefully. You have worked under Wu Qian for many years.

Yet you still haven’t accomplished anything.

General Mou, I want to tell you

that Prince Yuzhang is a man who loves talent.

If you change sides now and follow the prince,

it’s not too late.

The difference between success and failure depends on a single thought.

You cannot keep on making mistakes.

General Mou,

I know you are conflicted.

Don’t worry.

I will let the prince know

that you were forced to do what you did before.

You and your auntie have switched sides.

I promise that you won’t be affected by your uncle’s actions.

I have said all I wanted to say.

If you still want to continue on your current path, I will not stop you.

But...

I hope you will think carefully.

I will leave.

Princess Consort, you scared me to death!

How are you this brave?

What if he tells that Governor Wu?

I am not at peace either,

but my instincts tell me that person is trustworthy.

He can be of use to us.

Besides, we still don’t have any news from General Song.

I can only try this.

Master, there’s a big problem!

Governor Wu Qian of Huizhou defected.

Princess Consort passed by Huizhou on her way back to the capital.

She was... taken hostage by Wu Qian.

- Wu Qian? - Yes, My Lord.

Wu Qian studied under me for many years.

He is a coward.

If he doesn’t have someone backing him...

Go send someone to investigate who else Wu Qian met with that time he came to the capital.

Based on the military reports from the front line,

Prince Jianning is not far from Huizhou.

Once they take Huizhou,

the capital will be defenseless.

Hurry and ask the General of Wuwei to come to discuss this matter with me.

Yes.

What... What about Princess Consort?

Do as I say.

Yes.

Your Highness, the Prince of Jianning has mobilized his army.

He will arrive at the capital shortly.

We must get the tiger emblem to meet him.

I will try to get the tiger emblem from my father.

However, Duke Huan, are you really sure

that this Prince of Jianning will make me the emperor, and not himself?

After all, he also has royal blood.

I can bet my life on this.

Duke Huan, you trust the Prince of Jianning that much?

It’s not that I trust him, it’s that he trusts you.

I have not had many interactions with the Prince of Jianning,

so why does he?

What father wouldn’t trust his own son?

What do you mean?

Your Highness, the Prince of Jianning is your biological father.

[Prince Jianning]

Prince, the army has been rushing for days.

You also haven’t rested.

Today, Huizhou is already ours.

There are no other concerns. Please rest before you keep on traveling.

No.

Back then, I lost the throne because I was careless.

My guard cannot be lax now.

Spread word to the army. We must arrive at Huizhou before dawn tomorrow.

Yes. Pick up the pace!

Duke Huan.

Watch your words.

I, Ma Zilu, am the second prince.

How did I become the son of Prince Jianning?

Your Highness, do you remember as a child in the palace, you were never doted on?

I’m the one who looked for you.

Back then, I wanted to marry my daughter to you.

It’s all because Wang Lin interfered;

or else, we would already be in-laws.

Back then, your birth father, Prince Jianning,

had a very good chance of ascending to the throne,

but he just missed one opportunity.

The current emperor thus took his place.

I was Prince Jianning’s strategist.

Prince Jianning was exiled to a vassal province.

But he never admitted defeat.

Thus, he put together a 20-some year plan.

You are the key to his plan.

So...

my imperial mother... was Prince Jianning’s woman?

That’s correct. Your mother was already pregnant before entering the palace.

To avoid the body examination of concubines,

she began service as a maid in the palace.

Then she schemed to be doted on by the emperor.

After she became pregnant, she had to tell the managers of the court.

I, under Prince Jianning’s orders, helped you from the dark.

Helping you to reclaim the throne.

So...

while my imperial mother was humiliated to death in the palace,

while I, as a child, was bullied and ignored

and looked down on by everyone,

my birth father just watched quietly from the side, all for his plan!

Your Highness, those who want to accomplish big things do not fuss over small details.

Prince Jianning did all of this so that you will not be labeled as a usurper.

So you will legitimately ascend to the throne!

Not to say sacrificing your imperial mother,

even if he had to sacrifice himself, he would be happily willing.

Say, what tricks do you think Prince Jianning is up to?

When we chase him, he retreats and does not fight us head-on.

With all this chasing, when will it come to an end?

In my opinion, we should directly attack his base of operations.

Fight heartily.

Why are you so hot-headed like my brother?

We can’t go wrong if we listen to the prince.

This is called action through inaction. ( To prepare for anything through observing all and not moving.)

- New reports from Huizhou! - What happened?

Huizhou is changing sides.

Who is this person?

You are a soldier under Song Huai’en?

What happened?

Get him some water! Quick, quick!

- Spit it out! - Huizhou switched sides.

Princess Consort Yuzhang is in danger!

Quickly, send him to the medical tent!

His Majesty’s orders are to defend Huizhou?

Keep Prince Jianning and Xiao Qi outside the gates,

so that both sides will be heavily wounded.

But Wu Qian is spineless.

I’m afraid that this person will use Wang Xuan as protection.

If things start looking bad,

then he will switch to Xiao Qi’s side.

Fine. If he doesn’t make a move, we will do it ourselves.

Immediately go cut off Wang Xuan’s head and bring it to me. [Huizhou]

Yes.

If this fails,

I will not let His Majesty get dragged into this.

Who is it?

- What do you want to do? - Out of the way.

Yu Xiu.

I will protect Princess Consort with my life!

I thank you, General Mou.

Brothers, rescue Princess Consort!

[Chaomei Regional Manor]

Stop right there! Who are you? How dare you enter here?

I am a covert guard of the Wang clan sent here to protect the Princess Consort. [Pang Gui - Covert Guard of the Wang Clan]

Covert guard of the Wang Clan?

Princess Consort.

I, Pang Gui, am at your service.

What’s the situation outside?

Replying to Your Highness. The courtyard is filled with Wu Qian’s rebels.

General Song is leading his people to kill off the guards.

Please leave with me, Your Highness.

[Chaomei Regional Manor]

Charge!

Princess Consort, we cannot dally. We will help you escape the estate.

More rebels are coming. General Song has already left the estate.

Pang Gui, go help General Song.

General Mou cannot show his face right now. I will be safe with him here.

Yes, Princess Consort.

Go!

Stop!
