Sanada Ninja Clan Training Facility ...this time filled with greed.

Her name is Kasumi.

They were ninjas worked for Yukimura Sanada.

This facility was used to train those ninjas...

...and Kasumi was training herself there as well.

LADY NlNJA KASUMl

At least tell me where Kotaro is.

I can't do that.

I cant do that. Sanada Ninja - Mufuu

Sanada Ninja - Mufuu

Why?

You think I'll revolt against Lord Yukimura?

Master!

I won't do anything stupid.

Master!

Ueda Castle

At this rate, it will be dangerous.

At this rate, it will be dangerous. Yukimura Sanada

Yukimura Sanada

And what did you tell her, Mufuu? Yukimura Sanada

And what did you tell her, Mufuu?

that I will allow her to see you when she accomplishes her...

...task as a Shinobi, so that she will be able to ask for your permission.

Ask me? You got away with it this time.

But after she becomes a Shinobi, she could die at any time.

And Kasumi still agreed?

She said she's not going to die.

I'm not surprised.

Kasumi...

Time has come for you to work under the Sanada.

Kotaro?

Kotaro?

Kotaro?

Yo!

Kagezaru.

Sanada Ninja - Kagezaru What's with the sad look?

Sanada Ninja - Kagezaru

Sanada Ninja - Kagezaru Everyone was looking for you.

Everyone was looking for you.

Are you that sad to see me leave this place?

What? You too?

What do you mean, you too?

Yeah.

Master Mufuu gave me a task.

Damn! We get to go near Maeda castle?

Master Mufuu...

Unfortunately, I'm not...

You're not?

That's right.

Master Mufuu.

Kasumi will go inside the territory of Sengoku in Komoro.

But why is she going there?

Showdown between Tokugawa and Mitsunari lshida can not be avoided.

We, the Sanada clan must worry about...

...our neighboring clan, Sengoku clan of Komoro.

We had a Shinobi named Rokuzo spying on them, but we've lost...

...contact with him for over a month now.

So I want Kasumi to find out what the situation is in Komoro.

Do you understand, Kasumi?

But be careful.

There are many strong warriors named...

...the Hakuga Squad in the Sengoku territory.

Ones you have to watch out for are the ltagaki Brothers.

Second brother Komukai uses a sickle and chain.

Third brother Gennai is a giant who uses a cudgel.

Fourth brother Heisuke uses a whip.

And the first brother Juzo ltagaki is good with the sword.

He's the leader of the Hakuga Squad.

He's very sharp as well.

Stay on guard at all times.

Komuro territory-Garden of Sengoku clan They killed Rokuzo.

Komuro territory-Garden of Sengoku clan

But if he was a Shinobi for the Sanada...

The Sengoku clan joined the Tokugawas.

Secretly planning something within our territory.

We, the Hakuga Squad won't allow it.

Hakuga Squad's second in command has been killed...

What's wrong, Brother? What's wrong?

Shut up!

The Shinobi is bleeding a lot. He couldn't have gone far.

Shinobi from Sanada. I'll hunt you down!

Hagoromo Falls

Lodge - Tsubakiya

Hey. Looks like you're awake.

Shingo Hey. Looks like you're awake.

Shingo

Where am l?

Tsubakiya, my home. It's a lodge.

I went to get some water for tea. That's when I found you lying.

I thought you were a celestial maiden.

Celestial maiden? You must be kidding.

Those falls are called the Hagoromo Falls.

Oh, I see.

Tsubakiya.

We're coming in.

So you're the girl who was found lying near the falls?

Yes.

People from Hakuga Squad. Thank you for coming.

Where did you come from? What is your name?

Our big brother will be mad if we don't get your name.

I'm from Ecchu. We have a pharmacy in Toyama.

My name is Kasumi.

I hear you hurt your leg.

You hurt your leg?

Yes, I tripped and fell, then I cut myself on sharp bamboo.

I see. I'm sorry to hear that.

By the way, did you see a suspicious man near the road?

He's probably injured somewhere on his body.

Injured man?

No.

I didn't see him.

I can tell that they completely surrounded the borders by now.

I'm glad to see that they're looking for a male Shinobi from Sanada.

But if they start combing the area, then they'll eventually get to me.

You don't have to be afraid.

What?

Okay.

Tokugawa and Mitsunari lshida of Osaka might start a war.

The Hakuga Squad is getting edgy about it.

But it doesn't concern you, Kasumi.

Go ahead and lie down.

According to the doctor, your wound festered.

So you shouldn't walk for 3-4 days.

That long?

Don't worry about paying me. It was my idea to bring you here.

But I have money.

To tell you the truth, I want you to stay as long as possible.

Chief!

You have another guest!

Coming!

I have to go.

3-4 days, huh?

What do you think about Kasumi?

It seems like she's taking a long time to return. I'm worried.

Here.

At times...

I wish Kasumi would just die.

She's not like you orphans who lost their parents during the war.

She's the daughter of Soemon Hane...

...who was a feudal lord killed by Lord Yukimura.

Find him! Search the area!

We got Soemon!

Find the rest!

Find them! 5 years ago - Village of Hane

5 years ago - Village of Hane

Lord.

Find the rest!

Lord!

Open it.

Yes, Lord.

I'll risk my life to protect him. He's the successor of Soemon Hane!

Why you...

Wait!

My little brother Kotaro... I'll protect him even if...

...I have to turn into a demon or a corpse!

I like that.

I'll spare your lives.

By the way, what is your name?

Kasumi.

Kasumi.

Come, Kasumi.

Come to Yukimura Sanada!

But Lord Yukimura...

Come.

This was 5 years ago.

Lord Yukimura thought killing Kasumi would be a waste.

After he saw her great spirit...

...and her will to live.

But who knows when she might turn against Lord Yukimura.

Kasumi is not stupid. She knows that if she turns against Yukimura...

...then her little brother's life might be in danger.

You think too much, Master.

Kasumi risked her life to protect her little brother, right?

What's so funny?

You don't want her to die, do you?

Your face does look like a monkey.

I wonder who came up with an odd name like Kagezaru.

Stop laughing!

Engetsu

He's no ordinary man.

Kagezaru.

Yes?

Are you familiar with the animal trail?

Yes.

Sweet dumplings Akane

Thank you for coming. Come again!

Welcome!

Those looks that make any man fall for you.

It's still the same Akane.

Akane

You still can't forget about your child?

You're still good.

I'm sure you can satisfy any man...

I'll come back again.

I only rested for 3 days, but my body feels dull.

It must be Shingo.

Kasumi, I got something rare.

Look.

What is this?

What is this? Raspberries.

They look delicious.

These raspberries are delicious.

There's this shortcut through the mountains that only the locals know

That's where they have plenty of raspberries.

Shortcut?

Yeah, there's a shrine right outside the posting station.

If you descend the path at the back of the shrine, you'll come to it.

And if you go down there, you'll see the falls where I found you.

I see.

Oh yeah, that path might be useful for peddlers like you.

Thank you, Shingo.

Umm...

What?

If you can...

Can you stay here forever?

I...

I like you, Kasumi.

You know l...

I...

Kasumi!

I'm serious!

So...

You understand me, right?

Kasumi.

Kasumi.

Kasumi.

We're husband and wife now.

We'll be together forever.

Maybe this Shinobi is not a man.

You said there's an injured girl staying at Tsubakiya...

...who is a medicine peddler, right?

You're right, Brother.

She must be the one.

What?

But she was just an ordinary girl.

I know it's her.

I can tell if it's the blood of a female especially if it's from a female ninja.

Just as I thought. She fled.

There's this shortcut to the mountains that only the locals know

There are plenty of them there.

Shortcut?

Yeah.

You're very perceptive, Lady ninja of Sanada.

But we could tell which paths you would take.

We won't let you escape! Get her!

I'll kill her!

Brother! Brother!

Second Hakuga Squad! Go!

Move aside.

Leave them to me, Kasumi!

I won't let you kill me!

I promised my dying father that I would protect Kotaro.

So I locked away the embarrassment and hatred...

...inside my heart and became a Shinobi for Sanada.

I can't die here!

You're talking a bunch of nonsense!

Ninpo Kawasemi!

Brother!

Brother!

I'm glad I made it in time.

How come you haven't contacted us for days?

Kasumi.

Get out of here!

Wait! Get out of here!

Kasumi.

Why are you dressed like that?

You're a nice girl, aren't you, Kasumi?

The Kasumi you know is dead.

Goodbye!

Kasumi.

We're husband and wife now.

We'll be together forever.

Bottom of Ueda Castle

Stab wound to the heart from a downward angle by a narrow blade.

And the throat is slit as well.

This is the same way the last two were killed.

Within a month, three have been killed.

They were all important for the Sanada clan.

They were also prominent and brave as well.

Which means that an assassin has infiltrated Ueda Castle with ease.

I would say there are at least two people.

Could they be from the Tokugawa?

Indeed.

You will help us, won't you?

If you succeed, I will let you see your brother Kotaro.

Thank you very much.

And another thing, come to me if you're feeling uneasy.

Understand?

Kasumi!

Don't worry about it.

I'm counting on you.

Yes, Lord!

He was acting so friendly. I would never go to him for support!

Kasumi!

Kagezaru.

What's wrong? You look sullen.

No, it's nothing.

I know! Let's eat something sweet!

Okay.

You're going dressed like that?

You're going dressed like that? What?

There it is.

I...

I... Welcome.

Oh, you brought your daughter today?

Well...

He's no ordinary man.

Hey, Kasumi, I want you to stop blaming Lord Yukimura.

Your father betrayed him, he was forced to attack the Hane clan.

How come you know all this?

I'm a Shinobi too, you know. I actually investigated all this.

You're lying.

You're lying. I'm not lying.

My father would never betray anyone.

But that's the truth.

It's a lie.

It's a lie.

It's a lie! It's a lie! You're an idiot, Kagezaru!

Master Watanabe always goes to Kourin temple...

...to play a game of go with a priest on the nights when he's off-duty.

Ota sneaks off to Kitazawa once every four days to see a widow.

You two.

Be careful when you keep an eye on them.

Yes!

I hope you die.

Kasumi! Life and death should be taken more seriously!

Yes.

To live as a Shinobi means...

...having no feelings at all.

If you encounter Buddha, then you must kill Buddha.

When I encounter Buddha, then I must kill Buddha?

You have nothing to worry about. I'm not going to die that easily.

You idiot!

I heard that a widow is tough, but she's really something.

In the middle of the night...

A child? Why?

Marionette Oren

What's the matter? Are you crying?

I would never cry for this guy.

Mufuu! I can't sacrifice any more men like this!

Yes, Lord.

I'll risk my life to hunt down the killers!

This is your share.

Indeed.

One more man...

I want you to take out Yutaro Watanabe of the Monomishuu.

No way.

Ninja clan from Sanada is moving in full force.

I'll give you 10 ryos more.

I'm just a freelance ninja.

I'm not a pet dog for the Tokugawa like you.

This is just business for me, you know.

I just don't want to put my life on the line for 10 ryos.

How much more do you want then?

20 ryos.

I'm taking out one of the important members of the Sanada clan.

What's wrong?

You don't look too happy.

Are you here by yourself today?

If my daughter were still alive, she'd probably be the same age as you.

If she were alive?

She died.

By the way, I heard that you left your little brother...

...at some village in order to serve your master?

How did you know?

That priest Kagezaru told me about it.

He said you're a great girl.

He would've married you if he wasn't a priest.

Do you want me to teach you how to make origami?

You might want to make a warrior's helmet for your brother.

Great...

Now you're making me cry.

What's your brother's name?

Kotaro.

Kotaro.

That's a good name.

I'll bring some origami papers.

Okay.

Lady...

You smell nice.

It's a sachet.

You should carry it around when you get older.

That's right. I have Kotaro.

I just love the sound of money.

What excites a woman...

...are money and that thing called...

There's one other thing you like. The smell of blood.

Come here, my little boy.

You're such a cute little boy. I want to eat you up.

Feels good...

Kagezaru and the others who were killed all had...

...stab wounds from the abdomen to the heart.

They were from a downward angle. It could be a person of small stature

Plus the letter that Kagezaru left behind spells child.

Child?

Child? But a small child killed them?

But a small child killed them?

He's about Kotaro's age.

He's all by himself in the middle of the night.

Hey boy, what are you doing at a time like this?

Come here.

Come here.

Kasumi!

He's no child!

I look exactly like your brother, right?

I have the ability to transform into a kid!

Honey!

You wouldn't have died if you kept hiding.

She's my woman!

He used his tiny body to disguise himself as a child.

He took advantage of people's heart. That's how he killed them.

Kasumi?

Come to me if you're feeling uneasy.

Understand?

Where are you going?

To see my lord.

Kasumi...

Is that you, Kasumi?

My body won't stop shaking.

Yukimura.

Can you do something about it?

Come here, Kasumi.

What are you doing?

You're the one who wanted me to help you stop shaking.

Aren't you scared of me?

If you turn against me...

...then I'll be generous and give up on you.

But you can't turn against me.

I like you.

Lord Yukimura...

Lord! It's an emergency!

Secret documents of Sanada have been stolen.

If they end up in the enemy's hands, the Sanada clan is finished.

Mufuu. Mobilize all the Shinobis.

Yes, Lord.

This scent...

You smell nice.

Kasumi...

You...

So you're a lady ninja for the Sanada?

I want you to return the secret documents.

What if I say no?

It's not easy being a Shinobi.

If you encounter Buddha, then you must kill Buddha!

Die!

It was my mistake to use the lady ninja Akane.

I want you to hand over those documents.

Why should I give them to you?

Very well then.

I'll have to take it from you by force!

Hold it!

Kasumi!

Looks like we have some unexpected guests.

We'll meet again.

After him!

If she was planning to flee...

...then she would've gone back to Edo instead of staying here.

By the way Kasumi, I found this.

"Dear Kasumi... I'm heading out on a long journey..."

"l won't be needing this hairpin, so I want you to use it, Kasumi.

"The helmet is for your Kotaro... from Akane"

And where's Kasumi?

I gave her 3 days off.

I see.

Kasumi...she's one of a kind.

Yes.

I feel the same way you do.

She's one of a kind.

Really?

You think so?

Kotaro?

Kotaro?

Kotaro!

Kotaro!

Kotaro!

It's been five years since they last saw each other.

Kasumi knew what she had to protect.

In order to keep protecting this child...

...Lady ninja Kasumi must travel a path that is long and steep.
