I can tell you now.

The one I need to protect

is…

you.

Me?

That’s right. You.

My savior told me that

the Hall of Flames is in plight

and you’re too naïve

to protect yourself from danger.

So he asked me

to keep you safe.

That’s why you helped me out

in the Hero Assembly.

Mr. Shangguan,

who’s your savior?

Why does he need to protect me?

You’ll know one day.

Also,

please keep it as a secret,

will you?

From now on.

I will protect you

from any possible harm.

You’re back, Young Master.

Young Master,

have you found anything?

We’ve been to almost all hostels

and asked all people possible,

but still we’ve got nothing.

What about you?

What?

Chequ’s drunk.

She’s sleeping now in her room.

What about you, Young Master?

I’ve got nothing.

Then,

let’s call it a day.

Have a good rest.

We’ll continue tomorrow.

OK.

OK.

Go.

What’s in your hand, Young Master?

It’s nothing.

Show me.

It’s nothing.

Just go to sleep.

-Hurry up. Go back now. -Young Master...

-Since when you keep a secret from us? -Go back now.

Exactly.

You’re doing good.

Sugar-coated haws.

Boy,

how long have you been here?

I don’t remember.

You don’t remember?

I’ve told you on the first day you came

that you couldn’t work here without paying us.

Do you have memory problem?

I…I don’t have money.

None of your business.

Please.

You have no money?

Get rid of his stuff.

No.

Please. Leave me alone.

Stop it.

Flowers. Have a look.

Sir, come and have a look.

Nice and fragrant flowers.

Have a look.

Flowers.

Thank you.

You…you’re Shangguan Tou?

You know me?

See?

I saw you on the Hero Assembly.

Nice drawing.

What happened?

Some rascals asked me for money,

and I didn’t have money.

So they destroyed my stand.

Take it.

Thank you, sir!

Boy, where’s your parents?

Why are you selling your drawings here alone?

I don’t have parents.

I used to steal things for food.

But I don’t want to keep doing that.

I want to be a nice guy.

You draw all these?

This is Luduan Temple?

Yes.

Wang Yinya?

Boy,

why did you draw him with Luduan Temple?

He was in Luduan Temple that night.

I saw him when passing by, so I drew that like this.

Tianbao Inn

I will nose around at all passes

with Liuli today.

Zhusha,

go to the wharves with Chequ.

-Yes. -Yes.

The eagle has not returned yet.

I wonder what Chief Guardian has found,

and if he has returned to the Hall.

Hope he won’t be punished by the elders

when he got to the Hall.

Who are you?

I’m Wuming. Mr. Shangguan sent me to invite

Young Master and the guardians to his place.

Why isn’t he home yet?

Sir,

Chief Guardian went to the Sword Manor

to check

if they had stolen the manual.

But,

he’s with…

What?

The Lotus Sutra is with him.

I wanted to let him take

Chong Xuezhi’s place when she’s away.

But I didn’t expect him doing so.

The Lotus Sutra is our top treasure.

Don’t let the Sword Manor have it.

Hold him first.

Tell him…

Sword Manor

Mr. Lin,

the theft of the manual is not an accident.

It must be a well-planned action.

But I am clueless now.

I kindly ask for your advice.

We endorsed you at that time

because we didn’t want you to have

dispute with other schools anymore.

I had my agenda to be the mediator.

Your godfather, Chong Ye, is an old friend of mine.

And Lin Changran is my brother. We were very close.

So I definitely want the Hall of Flames to rise again,

and to keep the manual.

I guess the thief

is trying to provoke dissension,

turning the Hall of Flames

against the Sword Manor.

Don’t worry, Mr. Lin.

The Sword Manor has done a lot for us.

We will never forget that.

It’s just your manor’s involvement

might have hurt your reputation.

We have to apologize to you.

No need.

This is how the world works.

A drip makes a big splash.

When Mr. Chong Ye turned extreme

and became to public enemy,

I didn’t manage to save him

though I tried hard.

It was like yesterday.

What a pity.

Daddy,

we’re back.

Good day, sir.

Why are you here, Chief Guardian?

Fengzi,

don’t get cold.

Go change your clothes.

Let’s go, Fengzi.

Chief Guardian,

my disciple came straight to me

right after the manual went missing.

He told me that we were still suspects.

We are responsible to help you with the investigation.

I’ll do my best to help.

Chamber of Firewood

You’re here.

Mr. Shangguan,

why do you want us here?

There’s something we need to discuss.

Please come in.

Come out.

Here.

It’s you again?

Sorry, Miss.

I shouldn’t have cheated you.

I don’t have parents or anyone to count on.

And I was taught to steal and cheat…

I didn’t mean to…

Don’t cry.

So

you are an orphan like us.

There, there.

Everyone,

we invite you here

to tell you some

more important things.

It’s about the manual.

On the night of the Hero Assembly,

he was right outside of Luduan Temple.

What did you see?

I lived next to Luduan Temple.

That night, on my way to the toilet,

I saw someone.

Who?

Wang Yinya.

He was sneaking around,

like a thief.

I guessed he must be doing something bad,

so I hided up.

You’re sure that was him?

How could I draw this if I didn’t

see him clearly.

This is what I want to tell you.

So you think

it was Wang Yinya?

Everyone came to the Hero Assembly

with hidden agendas.

They all wanted the Nine Moves of Lotus God.

Though we don’t have evidence yet,

Wang Yinya’s visit to Luduan Temple

on the night when the manual was lost

is very suspicious.

Right.

I heard that

he left the next day

right after the Assembly finished.

He must be in a rush.

Where is he now?

He’s not returned to the Silver Whip School.

I think he’s heading northeastwards.

Northeastwards?

But the Silver Whip School is on the southwest.

Yes.

Maybe he’s seeing someone?

I heard that

he had a junior in Xiangzhou.

Xiangzhou is to the southeast of Dongdu.

Will he be there?

Then

let’s go to Xiangzhou first

to see what we can get.

Young Master,

I think we need a second thought.

Please let me report to the elders…

No.

It’ll take a long time for the eagle to deliver message.

I will use what I’ve got

to find the Nine Moves of Lotus God

and to undo the wrong.

Chequ,

send the rest of the disciples back.

Five of us will be enough for Xiangzhou.

Yes.

Qingmei.

Qingmei.

Fengzi.

I’ve come to see you.

I heard that Chief Guardian Muyuan

helped you come back.

How are you doing now?

It’s much better now.

That’s good news.

Then I’ll leave you some space.

Wait…

This is my first time to really see him,

am I nothing compared with

Shangguan Tou?

Hey,

what do you think is on Young Master’s mind?

The manual?

I don’t think so.

I bet it’s Mr. Shangguan.

See how happy she was the other night.

That must be a gift from Mr. Shangguan.

What are you thinking about?

Finish your meal and we gotta go.

We need to arrive in Xiangzhou before it’s dark.

Xiangzhou?

People say that’s a place for nice food,

I’ll stop now.

To save some space

for better food tonight.

What a foodie.

I’m a foodie,

and I’m playful.

Liuli.

Haitang.

What are you doing?

Getting some food for Young Master.

Go pack up your stuff.

We are leaving soon.

OK.

I know who you are.

Just show up.

Chief Guardian.

I’ve found you at last.

Did grandpa send you here?

It’s not Elder Yuwen.

He knows

that you want to assist Young Master

and hate to take her place.

He has long accepted the fact.

So he wants to solve all misunderstandings

before he dies.

Before he dies?

After you left the Hall of Flames,

he fell really sick.

He didn’t want to disturb you during the Hero Assembly

so we’ve been keeping this from you.

But several days ago,

he started to be lying on the bed all day,

spitting blood…

I’m afraid that…

I’m afraid that he is about to…

I see.

I’m going back to the Hall.

But Young Master...

I will inform her.

You might manage to see him for the last time

if you set off now.

You go…

Don’t worry, Chief Guardian.

You are the only family he has.

He’s been calling your name the past few days.

If you don’t hurry up,

I’m afraid you’ll regret for your whole life.

Don’t worry.

I’ll tell Young Master about this.

Please leave now.

OK.

Thank you.

Xiangzhou, Lord Lu’s Jurisdiction

I’m hungry.

There, there.

Mom, I’m hungry.

Have some water.

Careful.

Mom, I’m not feeling well.

There were some houses here previously,

Lord Lu, Xue Lie

but now they’re all destroyed by the flood.

I didn’t know

things had become this terrible.

Where are the people who lived here?

They’ve long gone

after the flood.

Where are they now?

Homeless.

Some

left for other places with families.

And some

stayed in clan halls.

Lord Lu’s Mansion

Your Highness.

Zheng.

Are Your Highness worrying

about the endless rains lately?

Yes.

You know me.

It’s been raining cats and dogs lately.

Many parts of Yinzhang’s 12 dams are broken.

People are homeless.

Princess Lu, Shangguan Zheng

That really upsets me.

If we don’t do something

as it keeps raining like this,

refugees will increase.

And there will be disease,

or plague.

Then there will be more disasters.

You Highness,

God knows how you love your people

and will help you with this.

With you as their prince,

the Xiangzhou people will live through this.

Everything will be fine.

Please don’t ponder too much on this.

Please care for your own health.

Zheng,

after I was diagnosed to have heart issues,

my father

sent me here

to the remote and tranquil Xiangzhou.

True that this is what I want,

being far away from politics

and complicated relations.

But I’m still unhappy.

I feel useless.

I can’t share the burdens with my father and brothers.

If I can’t even

deal with the troubles here in my jurisdiction,

then I’ll be a complete waste.

How should I face the people here

living in plight?

But, Your Highness,

human beings can never

manipulate natural disasters.

You’ve done well already.

Your Highness,

do you think you could

write to the crown prince for help?

We don’t know when the rain will stop.

After this,

we need to resettle the people.

Then there might be plagues to deal with.

We will need plenty of materials and human resources.

As well as people with experience of disaster relief.

Your Highness,

you are not feeling well…

I’m worried.

I don’t want you to

shoulder the burden all by yourself.

Zheng,

I do need help.

But I’m not sure if I want

to turn to my brother.

Zheng,

don’t worry about my health.

You’ve been nursing my health

in the past years.

I’m fine now.

It’s just I’m so worried these days

that I don’t feel well sometimes.

But that’s not a big deal.

It is my fortune

to have a wife like you.

How’s it going?

Fu Yiya, Wang Yinya’s junior,

will celebrate his son’s first month.

I guess Wang Yinya is coming

for this celebration.

Celebration?

There must be something else.

Why?

Rumor has it

Wang Yinya and Fu Yiya have been at odds

though they are under the same school.

When Wang got to be the chief,

Fu had no choice but resigned

and became a businessman here in Xiangzhou.

They haven’t

talked to each other for years.

How could Fu invite Wang to the celebration?

I see.

Then,

will this be about the manual?

I don’t know yet.

But let’s figure out

all questions.

What’s your plan,

Mr. Shangguan?

Let’s check in an inn first.

Lord Xin’s Mansion

Your Royal Highness.

You may rise.

Crown Prince, Xue Xin

How is His Majesty doing?

His Majesty is in good health.

Thank you for asking.

Are there any

political troubles?

Everything goes well

with administration.

Is there

any news from Xiangzhou?

Your Highness must be caring about Lord Lu.

His Highness has not sent any message lately.

But I heard that

Xiangzhou is attacked by flood.

It has been raining heavily for days.

People became homeless.

Many refugees from Xiangzhou have come to Dongdu.

And

it is said that it’s becoming worse and worse.

The productive fields might be destroyed.

I am not sure

how His Highness will handle this.

Xiangzhou

is under my brother’s jurisdiction.

Has His Majesty offered them help?

I have not heard of that yet.

My brother

didn’t like politics.

So he didn’t have experience of disaster relief.

And he’s not in good health.

The flood is too fierce for him.

I’m afraid that

he can’t cope with this.

Well,

send a message

to Xiangzhou and ask

if there’s anything

we can do.

Dongdu,

and I, as his brother,

will do our best to help.

Yes, Your Highness.

In fact,

we all witnessed Lord Lu’s gift

when he was younger.

If his health allows him,

he might…

That’s not the case.

My brother

is kind, pure,

and indifferent to power and wealth.

He’s been in leisure for years

in Xiangzhou.

What worries me is that

if flood comes again,

the people in Xiangzhou

will suffer a lot.

Your Highness treat people as your own children.

His Majesty will

see what’s been done.

Is that so?

But my care for my brother

somehow embarrasses

myself.

Go.

Write a letter

to Lord Lu.

Ask him

what we can do

to help.

Yes.

Yuelai Inn

Even our stable is better than this place.

We won’t stay here for long.

Just hold on a bit.

OK.

It’s been raining for two weeks.

The roof’s going to crush.

How can I sleep on a wet bed?

Just hold on.

Mr. Shangguan.

Miss Chong.

Why are you here?

I have a news for you.

Come in, please.

Mr. Shangguan,

please sit here.

Mr. Shangguan,

I’ll go and fetch you some water.

Thanks.

When did you arrive?

Four hours earlier than you.

You arrived earlier?

You’ve been looking around along the way.

So you were

inevitably slower than me walking alone.

I’ve found something.

Tomorrow will be the first month’s celebration

of Fu Yiya’s son.

Wang Yinya will be there.

Really?

Then we can sneak in.

Don’t bother.

I have this.

The invitation.

Mr. Shangguan, there’s nothing you can’t do,

How did you get this?

Easy-peasy.

Th…Thanks.

Why isn’t Haitang back

with water yet?

We don’t need her for water.

I have water with me.

On my way here, I happened to find a spring.

The water there was clear and sweet.

So I took a bottle of it.

Would you like to try?

Please.

Nice.

That must be a spring from deep down the earth.

It’s an old spring,

perfect for brew alcohol.

If you

keep the alcohol in a deep cellar for 3 years,

its taste of grain

will become even more mellow.

You know alcohol very well.

Just a little.

My father

loves alcohol.

I started to

taste spirits with him as a child.

But I don’t really drink much.

You taste alcohol but don’t fall victim to it.

But I bet

your father must be a heavy drinker

who drinks like a fish.

That’s what people believe.

But

that’s because he always acted normally

when he was drunk.

You won’t find out

if you don’t push him.

What if I push him?

He’d fall down.

You look pretty

when you smile.

Then

what’s your father like,

Mr. Shangguan?

My father…

I don’t really know.

Are you kidding?

Don’t you live

with you father?

My family is special.

I see.

The noble Shangguan family

must be different from ours.

I say

your father must be a nice man

just like you.

Miss,

you are simple.

I say

you’re being too complicated.

Master,

here’s the water.

Please go to bed early.

I’ll leave the spring

to you to enjoy.

Good night.

Hall of Flames

Grandpa.

Grandpa.

Grandpa.

Grandpa.

What happened?

You’re back.

I’m getting old.

I Want to see you more.

Grandpa,

don’t worry.

Things will be fine.

Muyuan.

I want to ask you for a favor.

Now

the manual is missing.

We’ve become

all sects’ target.

They might

try to give us a hard time now.

I

won’t be able to fight them.

If they do come to make trouble,

I’m afraid that the Hall…

Grandpa, don’t worry.

If I’m here,

nobody can hurt the Hall of Flames.

Muyuan.

I’m sorry about what I’ve done these years.

It’s all my fault.

I shouldn’t have done those things.

Stop,

grandpa.

I want you to be healthy.

But

Young Master and the disciples

are still looking for the manual.

I’m worried about them.

Chief Guardian.

Don’t worry.

See how your grandfather

has become?

Hall of Flames is now

headless.

We need someone to rule.

Young Master is with

four guardians.

She will be fine.

Chief Guardian,

please stay here

and take care of your grandfather.

Let’s go out first.

Let’s go.

Sir,

Chong Xuezhi

is in Xiangzhou.

Xiangzhou?

What is she doing there?

My guess is

that she thinks

Wang Yinya stole the manual,

so she follows him there.

OK.

Let her be.

The Nine Moves of Lotus God is missing now.

All sects are looking for her.

The farther she goes,

the more suspicious she becomes.

Fu’s Mansion

Thank you. Thank you.

Please enjoy yourselves.

Have more wine.

Excuse me,

friends.

Can I have your attention please?

I have some words.

Wang Yinya’s junior, Fu Yiya

Thank you, my friends,

for coming to my son’s 1 month’s old celebration.

And I…

He doesn’t

look martial at all.

He has long left the Silver Whip School.

He’s now running his business

and doesn’t care about the martial world anymore.

Where’s the main course?

Coming soon.

We are waiting for an important guest.

Here he comes.

My senior.

Come here.

Right. Come.

Allow me to introduce to you

my senior,

Chief Wang Yinya of the Silver Whip School.

He has come to congratulate me.

He saw us but

he didn’t react at all.

This is a celebration

so he left his silver whip home?

On behalf of my family,

I make a toast to my senior.

There’s something wrong with him.

Cheers.

Cheers.

There you go.

More wine.

You go.

Cheers.

Cheers.

Well.

Enjoy the food and wine.

Wang, let’s go inside.

You wait here. I’ll go inside to have a look.

Miss Chong.

Here.

Let’s go.

Strange.

Where are they?

Wang can vanish in the thin air.

Did he steal the manual and

start to practice already?

That’s possible.

Fu Yiya resigned from the martial world

for years.

Few people will notice him.

Fu’s Mansion will be a perfect place

to practice martial arts.

But I think

there must be something

we haven’t found out.

What do you mean?

Give me some time.

Lord Lu is returning home.

Make way.

Make way.

Make way, you.

Make way.

Make way.

Excuse me. Excuse me.

Zheng,

anything wrong?

Nothing.

Good.

Mr. Shangguan,

you are the son of the Imperial Advisor.

And the leader of the Moon Valley.

So are you a martial man

or do you work for the government?

I’m not working for the government.

Nor am I manipulated by the martial world.

I only

work to keep you safe.

Where do you think I belong to?

I heard that

Xiangzhou

is Lord Lu’s jurisdiction.

Then

who is Lord Lu?

The second son of the Emperor.

Your sister is a princess, right?

Is she Lord Lu’s….

She’s his wife.

Then why don’t you visit her?

What are you…

What’s that supposed to mean?

I’ll tell you.

There is different people in the imperial family.

Some are enshrined

and worshiped.

And some

are marginalized and materialized.

From the perspective of imperial family,

the Shangguan family

is more like the latter.

Your father

is the Imperial Advisor,

and has a prince

as his son-in-law.

How could he be marginalized?

His Majesty has many sons.

And the second son

was not born by the Empress.

The Empress doesn’t like him.

Therefore,

not a single official

speaks for him.

I see.

He’s just like me.

I’m the Young Master of the Hall of Flames.

But I can’t do whatever I want.

At home,

I’m controlled by the elders.

When out,

I’m controlled by the guardians.

No freedom at all.

That’s a different story.

Miss Chong,

at least you know where you’re from

and where

you’ll go.

But…

That’s profound.

What do you mean?

You’re still a kid.

Let’s go.

Back to the inn.

Yuelai Inn

Wang has come to Xiangzhou

to participate in

his junior’s celebration?

If so,

there must be something wrong.

Wang Yinya

is arrogant.

But he’s smiling today.

He looks nice and kind,

instead of a rascal.

Haitang?

I’ve got you some hot water.

Haitang.

Do you think

Wang Yinya has a twin brother?

I’ve never heard of it.

I’ll leave you alone.

Miss Chong.

Wild guess will be useless.

Would you like to visit Fu’s Mansion again with me?

Fu’s Mansion

Don’t move. Sit down.

Be my guest.

It is the pleasure

of our family

to have Mr. Shangguan and

Young Master of the Hall of Flames with us.

I’m flattered.

That’s not about flattering.

Mr. Shangguan

is the son of the Imperial Advisor,

and the leader of the Moon Valley.

And you are handsome and charming…

Mr. Fu, I’ll get down to business.

We’ve come here

for the missing Nine Moves of Lotus God.

Missing?

I know you’ve been

long resigned from the martial world.

But

you must have heard of

the Nine Moves of Lotus God being stolen

during the Hero Assembly, right?

I did hear of it.

But why did you

come to my place for this?

Do you think

it’s me who stole the manual?

Everyone

in the marital world

knows that

I have resigned

from the martial world for years.

I don’t care about their stuff anymore.

Nor do I want any fame.

You don’t want fame,

but your senior,

Wang Yinya,

will definitely want it.

Someone saw Mr. Wang wandering around

the room that kept the manual

on the night of Hero Assembly.

That is suspicious, right?
