[Episode 17]

Huo Yan.

Does Yan Lan

have problems with her lungs?

I always see her gasping for breath

after running a few steps.

She doesn't have great stamina.

I don't know if she has problems with her lungs.

The daughter of one of my old classmates

inhaled thick smoke when she was younger,

and had problems with her cardiopulmonary function later on.

She's the same as Yan Lan,

gasping for breath after a few steps.

How did she inhale smoke?

There was a fire in her house.

You should know as a firefighter.

Besides a fire,

where else would have so much thick smoke?

Do you think Yan Lan was also

in a fire when she was younger?

Maybe she inhaled smoke too,

and it affected her cardiopulmonary function.

She hasn't mentioned it before.

I think you should ask her.

You should both understand

each other's health conditions

before marriage.

Right.

In case

it affects your marriage later on.

I'll ask her when I get a chance.

But I don't think it's a big deal.

I'm helping build her stamina now,

and she's already a lot better.

It's not a problem.

Last time, Yan Lan said

that she moved when she was seven.

That means she left here

in 2000.

Did you ask why she left Nanjing?

Right.

She didn't tell me.

Maybe because

of her parents' jobs.

It really sounds like fate.

In 2000,

Huo Yan's father died

while on duty.

My future daughter-in-law

also left Nanjing

during 2000.

That year was really all about farewells.

Wait a minute, Sister Xian.

Why are you acting so strange today?

Why are you getting all emotional?

When one gets older,

one would like to reminisce about the past.

The year 2000.

The year 2000 is full of farewells.

Oh right, Sister Xian.

I remember

when you were pregnant with Huo Yan,

Huo really wanted to have a daughter.

Who knew that Huo Yan turned out

to be a boy?

He even regretted it just a bit.

Huo wanted a daughter so much.

After Yan Lan marries into the family,

he'll finally have a daughter.

That's right.

Huo really liked daughters.

If he had a daughter,

he'd spoil her like no other.

He'd even give his life to her.

That's right.

If Huo was still here,

he would treat Yan Lan like his actual daughter.

I really can't imagine my dad

spoiling a daughter.

After all,

he always yelled at me when I was little.

That's because you're a boy.

You were so playful.

How about this?

Treat Yan Lan as your daughter,

so that your dream can come true.

Oh,

Huo Yan.

I want... I want to tell you...

If I had a sister when I was younger,

we would've fought all the time.

Why?

Did you forget?

Our neighbors had a little girl

that you and my dad both really liked.

Back then,

I was so jealous of her.

I was scared that you would give some of your love for me

to her.

Back then,

I almost got depressed because of it.

Right, that did happen.

But don't worry.

Having you is enough for me.

Sister Xian.

What were you going to say earlier?

I wanted you to eat a crab.

Look.

I don't like crab,

you know that.

Then peel it for me.

I'll eat it.

(I have some words for you,)

(but I'm not sure whether it's proper.)

(Sister-in-law.)

(Every generation needs to live their own life.)

(We have to let go of certain things.)

(But whenever I see Yan Lan,)

(I think of Huo Yan's dad.)

(I don't know how I should face her.)

[Nanjing Fire and Rescue]

[Be loyal to the party, be disciplined. Dash ahead wholeheartedly for the people.]

All the ingredients are prepared.

[Hot pan cannot be left unattended] You just need

to cook it in the pan.

That's right.

Here.

Oh my gosh.

Didn't you practice a lot lately?

Aren't you already a cooking master now?

I... Did I say that?

Didn't you just say that?

I... You heard wrong.

Sister Xian.

You look beautiful today.

It changed so much.

That's right.

You haven't been here for many years,

right?

Right.

What food did you prepare for me?

All of your favorites.

I can smell it from here.

I'm going to take a look.

[Oath of firefighters]

It's not ready yet,

why are you in a rush?

It's been so many years since you last came.

Let me show you around.

There's a surprise.

Let's go.

What surprise?

A big surprise.

Okay.

The color looks good!

Bright and shiny.

You haven't added seasoning yet, right?

Salt.

Sugar.

What else am I missing?

Soy sauce.

Do...

Do you need soy sauce for tomato with egg?

Is this your creative spin on it?

Let's try it.

This...

Interesting.

Yan Lan, don't rush. Take your time.

I'm going to stall Sister Xian.

You have a lot of people helping you.

You got this!

No problem!

Doctor Yan is really good.

So good.

Give me a bowl.

It's done, right?

It's done.

Looks pretty good.

This is some dark cuisine.

Let me help you plate it.

Thank you.

No problem.

Smells good, right?

How old is Sister Xian?

Can she handle it?

Interesting.

Next dish.

Alright.

Here, you do...

I'll do it.

Okay.

My present?

Give it to me.

Give it to me.

What?

Give it to me.

Hold this.

How about it?

Sister Xian.

Stop, stop.

I love it.

A lot!

Yan Lan's mom found out it was your birthday,

and specially prepared it.

What?

Do you...

Do you like it or not?

Is it nice or not?

Why are you crying?

It's nice.

Then why are you crying?

You don't understand.

I'm crying because

Comrades.

Today is a day for us to remember.

Twenty years ago,

in order to protect

the safety of the people, Huo Qing Song

gave up his life

to save a child.

Today, we are here

in memory of your old captain.

In memory

of a husband

and a father.

Next,

Comrade Chen Pin Geng will give

his condolences.

On that day,

how I hoped you would take us back

like normal.

Your wife was waiting for you.

Your son was about to get out of school.

But at that moment,

you ran into the fire without hesitation.

The fire and smoke

covered your figure,

and blocked my sight.

That was the last time I saw you.

From that day onward,

I could only see you in my dreams.

I believe

you're not only in my dreams,

but you're also in the dreams

of your wife, your son, and the child

you gave your life

to rescue.

This dream

has lasted twenty years.

Today, we are here

to tell you

that we haven't forgotten you.

This fire station hasn't forgotten you.

Your comrades in arms haven't forgotten you.

The people you gave your life for

haven't forgotten you.

Since we chose to be a firefighter,

we need to carry out the responsibility

of a firefighter.

The sea of fire hasn't scared us away

because generations of firefighters

have upheld their responsibilities.

Captain Huo.

You passed your spirit onto us,

and many other night watchers

and heroes in harm's way.

Now, I can bravely tell you

that I'm not afraid of sacrifice.

I know

that if I died in duty one day,

my tombstone will always

be filled with fresh flowers.

Our stories will always be told by others.

Death didn't defeat us.

We haven't been forgotten.

Our names

and actions

will always be remembered.

Dear Comrade Huo Qing Song,

the Captain Huo I dearly miss,

please rest in peace in space and time.

Let us continue to protect this beautiful world

on behalf of you.

Comrades.

After Huo passed away,

his number

was never used by anyone else.

[CHINA FIRE AND RESCUE]

Today, the badge

I am awarding

has the same serial number that Comrade Huo Qing Song

had previously.

Today, I am officially

awarding this badge

to our former captain's son.

I hope that you

could always remember

a firefighter's duty and responsibility,

and that you could continue

passing on the spirit

of this badge.

Huo Yan!

Here.

Out!

Yes, sir!

[Tips for Fire Safety]

Traffic accidents often happen within seconds.

Keeping calm is very important.

After a car accident,

pull out of the street and other traffic as quickly as possible,

and move to a safe zone.

If the car is heavily damaged

or people are stuck inside,

call the police for help at 119

as soon as possible.

After escaping or being rescued,

you must go to the hospital as soon as possible,

and not dismiss the matter.
