At a young age, I used to sneak into the State Theater,

and I knew that when I saw those curtains open,

that's what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

Growing up, my parents would be like,

"Yo, you can't watch TV," so I would have to find

sneaky ways to watch comedy every chance I got.

My parents are both doctors,

so there's a lot of pressure to become a doctor as well.

But performing is all I wanted to do.

- Growing up, it was very-- - if you're a man, you're man.

Boys don't twirl.

I was always hiding, but this is my life.

This is what I want to do.

I really just want to be a twirler full-time,

so that's why I'm here on this stage,

and I hope that "America's Got Talent"

can make my dreams come true.

I was born and raised in Puerto Rico.

But nowadays, I live in North Carolina.

My sister was a majorette in a local group,

and I was in the drumline,

but I've always been fascinated about dancing and performing,

and I don't know why,

from the moment I saw the metal sticks,

they were like-- that's really cool.

And one day, I picked it up, and from that moment then,

I've never let them go. [cheers and applause]

It's been a dream since I've watched this show.

Seeing the first winner, Bianca Ryan,

was truly an amazing experience.

And honestly, I can't sing.

And this is the stage that gives all these variety acts

the chance to show our talent.

"Your vibrato sounds like a goat."

Yeah. That's an actual comment.

"Eww, you don't wear any makeup."

"You have a lisp." "You have a crooked tooth."

"You look awful. You have acne."

I mean, I could go on.

I am going to be singing a song that I wrote

using only hate comments from my YouTube channel.

I grew up with music all around me in my childhood.

My dad played guitar.

When I was eight years old,

my dad actually sat me down and taught me how to write a song.

Before January 26th, me and Christina

lived this dreamy kind of life.

She came and saw me playing at this dive bar,

and I asked her out, and we sat in my car,

and we talked about music.

Would you say she was your greatest supporter?

She was just this very humble, powerful,

beautiful human being.

My mom said, "If you don't marry that girl,

you're--you're stupid." [laughs]

We were married for 15 years.

We had three beautiful children.

It was filled with love.

When she left that day, she kissed me,

and she said, "I love you."

And that was the last thing my wife ever said to me.

Your whole life changes in a second.

There was pain.

My focus immediately went to my children.

You start to say, "All right,

she would want me to carry on."

She would want our kids to have happy lives,

And how did you get into that?

When I was a kid, I would stay up

I actually just turned 27.

I celebrated my birthday a couple weeks ago.

Yeah, it's weird turning 27,

'cause I feel like I'm getting older, but my face isn't.

'cause, like, all I wanted to do for my birthday

was to celebrate by getting a nice bottle of wine,

you know, like an adult.

But when I went to the store, I picked out the bottle

I wanted, I went to the counter,

I put it on the counter as you do for purchases, right?

And the lady looked at me, she looked at the bottle,

she looked back at me, and she went,

"Ha! No, mm-mm."

That was it.

That was the whole transaction. That's not protocol.

You don't just get to go, "No!"

Right? I was upset.

I wasn't mad that she thought I was underaged.

I get it. I look 17 at best.

I wasn't mad she thought I was young.

But I was upset that she thought

an underaged person would be buying wine.

[laughter]

Like, I just-- I don't understand.

In what world do you live in, Rebecca,

where some 17-year-old dude

is showing up to this house party, like...
