[Dave sighing]

Well, the butterfly never flies in a straight line.

-[Dr. Flutter] Oh. Mmm-mmm. -The trail it makes,

it's twisted all over the place...

-[Dr. Flutter sighs] -...like spaghetti.

All right. Well, look, let's recharge our batteries.

Now that we've had our drink-and-think, let's get back to problem solving.

We're trying to help Dr. Flutter catch a big orange butterfly

that she can use in her new exhibit at the museum.

A Banded Orange Heliconian, to be exact.

But the butterfly keeps getting away. It's too fast.

[Movers] Or maybe we're too slow.

Yeah. It's a big conundrum.

-[mouthing] -[Rich] Big word.

You know, when those runners wanted a drink,

they came to Scott.

[Scott chuckling]

It's not like you can just turn on a faucet and get water, Dave.

-Oh, well, you can do that. -Yeah.

You can turn it on, and water comes out.

What I mean is, you had something that they wanted.

So, maybe instead of chasing Big Orange, we can make it come to us.

Yeah. All we need is something butterflies like.

-That's right! Like lemonade... -Yep.

Butterflies do like a sugary liquid like lemonade.

Yeah, but we drank it all.

Well, there has to be other things that butterflies like.

-There's a lot of butterflies. -Yeah, you know,

in certain parts of the world, millions of butterflies travel together

from one place to another.

-It's called migration. -Migration!

I guess butterflies really do like each other.

So, maybe if we had... another butterfly.

Or somebody dressed as a butterfly.

I know. My butterfly opening is very soon.

And I don't think Big Orange is gonna fall

for the old "mouse dressed as a butterfly" trick again.

Isn't there something else that butterflies are attracted to?

-Apples. -Gravy.

Just be careful when you pick them because I found some caterpillars on them.

Yep. There's a cute little orange one somewhere over here.

-What? -...what we've been waiting for!

Dr. Flutter, that's a caterpillar, not a butterfly.

Yes. But, you see, a butterfly begins its life as a caterpillar.

Oh! Bingo! We're in luck. This one's a Dryadula phaetusa.

-Hey, that's a Big Orange. -Yeah.

They love these big, bright, orange-colored flowers, too.

And you know what?

Where there is a caterpillar,

there's very often a chrysalis!

-Yes! -Huh?

Oh, uh, you see,

um, butterflies begin their lives as caterpillars like this,

and then they change into a chrysalis like this,

and then they finally emerge into a big,

bright, beautiful butterfly like Big Orange.

Does that caterpillar in the chrysalis look like it's ready to change?

Oh, I think so. Uh, a jar, quickly.

Oh, okay, okay, okay, okay.

See? They call this process metamorphosis.

Meta-wha-what? Big word.

-Oh! -Look!

-Wow! -It's coming out.

-[Movers gasping] -[Dr. Flutter chuckling]

-It's beautiful. -It's Big Orange!
