Ancient Love Poetry

Episode 23

Hongri!

That is not Hongri.

But... How come?

It’s Hongri’s spiritual aura.

It’s just his remaining soul.

How dare you humble beings

intrude into the cultivation place of True God

and offend him!

Leave immediately!

Your Lordship,

it’s not our intention to offend True God Bai Jue.

The Taicang Spear’s reappearance

is crucial for all beings of the Three Realms.

I’m here to take the Spear for the Heavenly Palace.

Please do not stand in my way.

Imbecile!

The Taicang Spear is the Weapon of True Gods,

which chooses its own master.

Hearing rumors

that the Kylin reappeared,

I thought he was really alive.

The Fire Kylin and the Taicang Spear

will give me an answer to

whether Qingmu is Bai Jue or not.

Master,

you’re not here for the Spear,

but to...

They’re so foolish.

The Weapon of True Gods

is too much for the mediocre to handle.

Weapon of True Gods?

The Shanggu God Realm has been closed for years.

All realms bow to the Heavenly Palace.

Fire Kylin,

if you hand over the Taicang Spear,

I may spare your life,

so that you can live out your last years here.

The daughter of a Gold Dragon and a Phoenix,

mind your tongue!

You are by no means

the master of the Taicang Spear!

Have you found anything?

He’s not Boxuan.

It is you.

Sixty thousand years have passed.

The God Realm has gone,

while you’re still alive.

Oh no!

The Taicang Spear’s power is too much

for Qingmu’s spiritual veins.

He’ll be...

Houchi!

Are you all right?

Fengran,

we need to find a way

to separate him and the Spear,

or Qingmu’s body will explode.

But no one is more powerful

than that Spear.

How could we break them up?

Jingjian,

do something and help Qingmu.

If he dies,

I’ll not live alone in this world.

Qingmu is a close friend of mine.

I don’t want him to hurt, either.

But how can we suppress

such immense power?

Houchi, look.

Qingmu looks a little better.

The Spear is True God Bai Jue’s weapon.

The Kylin has been guarding it.

No one can come close to him

except True God Bai Jue himself.

Is Qingmu...?

The view remains the same,

but where are you,

Shanggu?

Hongri,

the God Realm is closed now.

I brought a piece of your soul here.

From now on,

please guard the Spear

and Mount Lookout for me.

I’m going to get her back.

Whether it’ll take tens

or hundreds of millions of years,

one day,

the God Realm will be restored.

And I

will find her.

Shanggu.

Master Bai Jue.

What’s going on?

Houchi,

what is he murmuring?

Something about the God Realm, I think.

Master,

why doesn’t this man

have Master Bai Jue’s memory?

The four of us were born with Heaven.

Even after death,

we’ll be reborn at the Heaven and Earth Platform.

Were it waking up from a long nap,

he’d have the spiritual root inside.

There must be something else.

When the God Realm was closed,

how did he manage

to find himself an immortal lord’s body?

Look.

That cheeky man’s power darkens.

Is the Spear going to choose him?

Fellows,

if the Spear chooses a master,

we’ll have no chance to get it.

My lords,

we cannot allow

the demons to get the Spear.

Yes.

Jingzhao!

Then what should do now?

To fish in troubled water,

we must churn the pond first.

Only when Qingmu gets the Taicang Spear

can we have our answer.

Feather Umbrella!

Foolish beast!

Qingmu’s energy is restless in his body.

It must be

fusing with Taicang Spear’s power now.

He’s out of danger.

Fengran,

we need to protect Qingmu.

When he gets the Taicang Spear

and wakes up,

let’s get him away as fast as we can.

Whoever is your concern,

I won’t let any harm get near him.

I’m not concerned about him.

He did me a favor.

I just want to help.

But if we help him,

our Qingchi Palace

will be unable to stay neutral anymore.

No time to worry about that.

Let’s just protect him.

It’s time

to remind them what we can do.

Jingzhao!

You dare hurt me, beast?

I’ll knock your soul out.

Jingzhao,

the Kylin is tough.

We’re no match for it.

Don’t worry, Jingjian.

I have Mother’s Feather Umbrella.

It’s invincible.

Jingzhao!

Jingjian.

Master, this is the end for me.

I failed you.

Forgive me.

Who did it?

Demons and immortals

made a tremor fighting for the Spear.

It’s not them.

Your Majesty?

True God’s power can rock the earth.

That was True God’s power.

Houchi, why don’t you feel the impact?

You’re powerful, Goddess!

Please protect me.

Qingmu,

the Spear has chosen you as its master.

Soon, you’ll become a God.

It took me a lot of effort

to deal with the Fire Kylin for you.

Jingzhao, stop!

You intruded into my retreat

and killed my guarding beast.

Unpardonable.

Jingzhao!

He must be a piece of soul

to converse with Qingmu subconsciously.

But he’s still too strong

to be provoked.

I have to risk it.

Greetings, Master Bai Jue.

Greetings, Master Bai Jue.

Shanggu.

Houchi!

I’m back.

Master Bai Jue.

Are you hurt?

Do you know me?

Do I know you?

Well,

the Taicang Spear has chosen its master.

This is over.

Go back to your retreat, my lords.

As for the demons,

you cannot stay in the Immortal Realm.

Yes.

Jingjian, take Jingzhao back.

Yes, Father.

Your Majesty,

is Lord Qingmu...?

He doesn’t have

Master Bai Jue’s spiritual root.

Just someone who looks like him.

The last time we met,

you were still a little girl.

I can’t believe you’re already a lady.

When your father comes back,

he’ll be delighted.

I got gifts from the Heavenly Palace

on each ten-thousand-year birthday.

It’s not that hard to believe.

What Your Majesty said is pointless.

And,

my father’s reaction

has nothing to do with the Heavenly Palace.

Houchi.

It’s your mother’s birthday in a few days.

Now that you’re out of the Qingchi Palace,

why not come to

her birthday party at the Heavenly Palace?

No, thanks.

I don’t have a mother.

All right.

When your father comes back,

I’ll pay a visit to the Qingchi Palace.

My father is nowhere to find.

He won’t stay long even if he is back.

I’m afraid you won’t see him.

The conflict with demons has lasted for sixty thousand years.

Now all I want is a truce.

If only I listened to your father then.

Now it’s almost impossible

to restore peace between us.

I’ll tell my father you said that.

Let’s go, Fengran.

Master,

now that we’re sure

Qingmu is Master Bai Jue,

shall we remove him from existence

for what he did?

When did I ever say

I want him dead?

It has been a pet phrase

since you woke up.

You said it days ago

and wrote it down.

I have the note with me.

All right, stop.

I do hate Bai Jue,

for not trusting me back then

and drawing his spear against me.

For that,

I will make him pay sooner or later.

Generous and kind?

I’m all that.

Surely to meet Houchi

at the Qingchi Palace

and make her fall in love with me again.

Master, what are you looking at?

I’m admiring Mount Lookout.

In the past,

Master Bai Jue chose to guide immortals

at Mount Lookout

for its picturesque view.

Breeze rising from the valley

disperses all your sorrow.

It’s a shame

that such tranquility won’t last long.

Master,

Master Bai Jue’s soul is dispersed.

But Mount Lookout is intact,

and full of power and energy.

Why the deep concern?

Fengran, I don’t understand.

Why is his breath so weak?

His wound was not healed before.

Fusing with the Taicang Spear damages his spiritual sense.

I’m not curious about his condition.

This is North Sea Lord, Qingmu?

Chang Que,

go fetch some medicine

that strengthens souls.

It has to be vintage.

It’s a god’s wound.

Ordinary medicine won’t work.

What are you waiting for? Go!

Your Grace,

Qingmu is from the Heavenly Palace.

Let’s leave him be.

Besides, God Gu Jun would be

unhappy if he found out.

Chang Que,

you’re so noisy.

Don’t you listen to Her Grace now?

Houchi,

keep an eye on him.

I’ll fetch the medicine for you.

Come, Chang Que.

A thousand years ago,

I woke up at the North Sea,

with no idea who I am.

All I found with me is a bracelet.

Nothing else.

I began to travel around,

trying to find out who I am.

But I hate to be in others’ debt.

I’m used to those condemnations.

In the future, don’t bother...

But I care.

It hurts me when you’re condemned

and bullied by others.

It hurts me you pretend nothing happens

when you’re obviously upset.

As long as I’m by your side,

I will make it right for you.

Because I...

I have lost my heart to someone.

You were wounded because of me,

so I won’t sit by.

Rest assured.

The Qingchi Palace will keep you safe.

Lady Fengran.

He claimed the Taicang Spear.

Trouble around him is yet to come.

If we keep him here at the Qingchi Palace,

we’ll undoubtedly get involved.

All right, Chang Que,

you know Houchi’s personality.

Would someone as cautious as her

neglect that?

And she insists to save him.

You know what it means?

What?

It means

soon

Lord Qingmu will probably

become a family.

But he’s tens of thousands of years younger than her.

The most beautiful love

is always regarded as impossible at first.

You see how Houchi is worried about him.

Anyone who has a brain can see it.

She just hasn’t found out herself.

But it’s still up in the air.

Lady Fengran,

how can you be so sure?

We’ll see.

So much sweat.

Looks like Chang Que’s medicine is working.

It’s stuffy in the room.

I should open the windows.

Do I know you?

We’re friends as old

I’ve never forgotten you for a second.

Master Bai Jue possessed Qingmu

for the Taicang Spear.

But he said he knew me.

I don’t understand.

Boxuan has a lot of bamboo slips missing from the God Realm.

I should skim through.

I came by sunrise. Now the moon is up.

What took you so long?

Demon Lord Ziyue?

What are you doing here?

I miss you.

So I came by.

Father set God’s barriers around the Qingchi Palace.

He can get through with ease.

So he must be more powerful than Father.

What’s in your mind?

Wait.

Let me guess.

You saw so much at Mount Lookout today

and heard Bai Jue call you Shanggu.

So right now,

you must be confused.

How do you...?

How do I know he called you Shanggu?

Think about it.

What did I call you that day

by the Purple Moon Spring?

Shanggu,

I finally found you!

Shanggu.

Exactly.

I came today

to tell you everything.

Good for you, Houchi.

Even Demon Lord Ziyue falls for you.

Sadly, he’s one of the demons,

and has a connection with the Demon King,

unlike Qingmu

who’s neither a demon nor an immortal, clean and clear.

What’s wrong with Demon Lord Ziyue?

He’s powerful

and has all demons on his back.

Lord Qingmu is nothing for him.

Who are you?

When did you get in?

I’m Zihan.

I came with Demon Lord Ziyue

and ran into

His Lordship woos the young Goddess.

I can’t miss this.

Likewise. I’m Fengran.

Hold on.

You’re on the Demon Lord’s side.

We’ll not be allies.

I don’t know a gossiping girl

can be so faithful to principles.

That’s for sure.

Your Majesty,

it was so imprudent of North Sea Lord

to have hurt Jingzhao so severely.

Why did you let him go unpunished

and take refuge in the Qingchi Palace?

What do you suggest we do about him?

The one who hurt Jingzhao

is Master Bai Jue,

not Qingmu.

Moreover,

the Taicang Spear has chosen Qingmu as its master.

We can’t punish him.

Master Bai Jue?

No one has heard from him

since the God Realm was closed.

Qingmu has no parents

and no root.

Is Master Bai Jue

somehow related to Qingmu?

I supposed so.

But I tried to find his spiritual sense today.

No sign of the Master’s spirit or original being.

Just a piece of soul attached to the Taicang Spear,

I guess.

You should have taken him back here.

If he pledges allegiance to the Qingchi Palace,

we’ll lose the upper hand.

Your worry is unnecessary.

Qingmu has been used to the solitary life.

He won’t be drawn in easily.

Your Majesty.

All right.

Whether Qingmu is Master Bai Jue or not,

I’ll treat him with respect.

I found Jingzhao is unusually good to him.

It’s a good thing.

Let’s keep our hands off it.

Right, Your Majesty.

Don’t go.

What are you doing?

Shanggu!

Don’t go!

Don’t.

Shanggu, don’t, please!

Don’t go.

Don’t go!

Shanggu!

I forced you to become the Chief God

and led you to the abyss of hell.

Bai Jue,

the Three Realms

are your responsibility now.

Shanggu.

Shanggu!

This is the Qingchi Palace.

Houchi.

Your Lordship,

are you saying

that I was...?

Yes.

You were the Chief Goddess of Gods,

Master Shanggu.

Well, her maid actually.

I know

it sounds absurd to you.

But every word I said is true.

Houchi,

you’re the love bird I’ve been searching over the years.

And that rascal, Qingmu,

is the one

who separated us in the last life.

No wonder.

I was wondering

why we were tangled up.

That is the reason.

As a result,

you cannot be with him.

You don’t remember.

In the last life,

he was far more hideous.

His love to you was unrequited,

so he turned evil

and set me up.

And you,

deeply in love with me,

killed yourself.

So in this life,

I swore I’d find you whatever it takes

and revenge the harm he did to me.

Your Lordship, stop.

I must be crazily bored

to have listened to your story.

Your Lordship should go.

Our Qingchi Palace is too humble

to host an honorable guest like you.

You don’t believe me?

Come on, try it.

What do you mean?

Kiss me.

Trust me.

When you kiss me,

you’ll feel the same heartbeat

you had in the previous life.

Maybe you’ll remember more.

Your Lordship!

Don’t call me lord.

It’s Jingyuan to you.

This is the Qingchi Palace.

Mind your manners.

Are you feeling shy?

All right.

Then a hug.

I’m a handsome man.

I don’t mind you take advantage of me.

You...!

Qingmu, you’re awake.

It’s cold at night. Don’t catch a cold.

It’s ill-mannered to visit at night

without invitation.

Please go.

Who is this?

It’s Lord Qingmu

who was wounded during the day.

If I’m right,

you have nothing to do with the Qingchi Palace.

I can come and go whenever I want.

It’s not your place to interfere.

A demon intruded the immortals’ domain.

Sure it is my place to step in.

Since you know who I am,

leave immediately.

If you harass Houchi again,

we will exchange more than words.

Show me

what you’re going to do.

Are you sure you want to fight me?

Good.

I just got the Taicang Spear.

Let me try it.

A worthless spear.

I also have a weapon.

Let’s fight.

Save your nonsense.

Are you done?

One of you is a gate-crasher,

and the other a wounded man.

This is the Qingchi Palace,

where your recklessness is not allowed.

As for you

who just survived death,

stop making a scene.

Did you hear her?

Without her protection at Mt. Lookout,

your life would have been gone.

Grow up, boy.

To be my rival in love,

you need tens of thousands of cultivation to fill up.

Your Lordship, will you be quiet?

Look,

my lord is marvelous.

Lord Qingmu is sulky.

I can’t agree with you.

He’s like an obedient servant

in front of Houchi.

I think he has a long way to go

to defeat Qingmu.

Your Lordship,

I have to ask you to leave.

We’re occupied at the Qingchi Palace.

Excuse me.

All right.

I’ll drop by in a few days.

Let’s go out for some liquor and views.

Since my birth at the Heaven and Earth Platform,

I’ve never taken an upper hand over him.

His sulky face makes me feel

amused.

Good.

Why did you get away so fast?

Whatever I do for you is worthless

compared with sweet talks.

Why should I get in your way?

He’s a demon

and a powerful one.

I have to treat him with respect.

Why did you start a fight with him?

Do you think I want that?

I was just...

What?

Worried that you’re unwary

and would fall into his trap.

We didn’t meet for long,

but I can tell if he’s honest with me.

He’s nothing like that.

Yes.

You’re grateful to anyone else but me.

It’s so hard for me to get close to you.

If you don’t like what I did,

I should go.

You...

You’re wounded badly.

Where are you going?

To the North Sea.

To the Heavenly Palace.

Did I owe you in the previous life?

Do you think I want that?

I was just...

What?

Worried that you’re unwary

and would fall into his trap.

You’re grateful to anyone else but me.

It’s so hard for me to get close to you.

Where are you going?

It’s not a good day.

No training for today.

Your Grace, you’re working hard.

It’s not like that.

I understand.

These are...?

These are the finest dresses I can find for you.

Pick your favorite.

As a Goddess,

you have no style at all.

That’s unacceptable.

You should know both demons and immortals

care about females’ appearance.

Look if you like any.

Take them.

I don’t mind.

Am I ugly?

I won’t say ugly,

just a little sloppy.

Compared with Jingzhao?

You and she are two different types.

But there’s one thing in you

she doesn’t have.

Your tolerance and generosity.

She’s nothing of that.

Don’t compare me with her.

You asked about it.

Did you have to answer?

As the chief of Qingchi Palace,

you put so much effort

in shallow stuff instead of cultivation.

How could you make any progress?

These dresses are forfeited.

Reflect on your behaviors.

I...

Unbelievable woman.

Wait for me.

Always Acquire New Knowledge Will it work?

All right. By your words.

Do it.

It’s my fault.

I’m sorry.

I shouldn’t have made Houchi angry.

I shouldn’t have been jealous.

My fault.

Stop slapping me.

Even if... you didn’t punish me,

I’d punish myself.

It’s my fault.

I’ve learned the lesson

and won’t make the same mistakes again.

Forgive me.

You don’t have to do that. I’ll...

Punish yourself to win my sympathy?

Will you try harder?

Does the wound pain again?

No.

Houchi,

I’m here to apologize to you.

I accept your apology.

You forgive me?

I am not angry with you at all.

You’re gorgeous today.

Where are you going?

I invited Her Grace to go out for liquor

in this spring day.

You again?

That’s impossible.

Houchi wouldn’t go on a spring outing with you.

You don’t believe it?

Ask her.

It’s such a good day.

I’d like to go out with you two.

You can’t.

Why not?

Your body is weak.

And you can’t drink.

You’re dazzling today, Your Grace.

You remind me of an old friend.

Houchi,

don’t go out with this despicable man.

What’s that smell? The sour of jealousy.

How annoying!

The Qingchi Palace has always been neutral.

As a demon, Lord Ziyue,

you should keep your distance from us.

If we’re found out together,

it’ll be regarded as colluding with demons.

It’s well known that the Qingchi Palace is independent of the Heavenly Palace.

And you were conferred by the Heavenly Palace.

So you’re no better than me.

You...!

What are you doing?

Let go of me!

- Your Lordship, - Let go...

the feast is ready.

Please.

After you.

Houchi.

Houchi, you can’t go with him.

Houchi!

Jingyuan, let me go!

Jingyuan!

You’re happy

that he’s jealous?

I’m not.

The fruit and snacks are all delicious.

Try some.

You dressed up like this

to impress him, right?

You’ve seen a lot of men.

Do you know a man called Boxuan?

Is that why you agreed

to come out with me?

Boxuan?

You asked about him at the Purple Moon Spring.

You went to Mount Lookout

and found my fan there?

Yes.

What does Boxuan have to do with the bamboo hut?

When I was little,

he often took me there for fun.

Thousands of years ago,

I went there for I missed a friend.

I was drunk

and spent the night over there,

where I lost my fan.

That led you to me.

But I don’t know

a man called Boxuan.

I’d been retreating in the palace for years

and know little about the new lords

of demons or immortals

over the years.

Did anyone live

in the bamboo hut thousands of years ago?

It’s messy.

It probably has been deserted for tens of thousands of years.

Who is Boxuan to you?

Family.

What about Qingmu?

Please do not make such jokes.

That fool

is still locked in the barrier.

Please set him free.

Let’s split up.

The Taicang Spear is a weapon from the Shanggu Realm.

And it chose Qingmu as its master.

I don’t think

it’s simply a coincidence.

I don’t want to hear

or talk about that man.

Houchi,

I didn’t ask you out

to hear these things from you.

Have you thought about being with me?

If you are with me,

I’ll make you the master of Demon Realm.

Why did you say that all of a sudden?

I wanted to tell you long ago.

Haven’t you ever

noticed my feelings for you?

Your Lordship...

Call me Jingyuan.

Your Lordship,

I’ll take that

as your joke with me.

I’m nothing special,

not powerful,

not pretty,

and bad-tempered.

Except for the undeserved title of Goddess,

I’m not special at all.

Yet you keep making advances to me.

Why?

Who said you were not special?

Instead of asking about this,

why don’t you ask

who doesn’t say that about me

in the Three Realms?

Allow me to remind you that

both immortals and demons value strength.

I’m not good enough for you.

Please do not bring it up again.
