I do remember that when my mom would take us to go buy,

you know, cars and toys,

that my brother would pick out a Rolls-Royce.

I remember I would be sitting in the living room floor

playing with my toys,

and my brother would come over and we'd sit down playing.

He would bring out his Rolls-Royce

and if I had one of my police cars,

he would tell me to put the police car

in front of his car and be his escort.

He knew what a Mercedes-Benz was,

he knew what a Rolls-Royce was.

My mom had no idea what that stuff was.

I had no idea what that was.

But he knew what that was.

And those are the only toys that he would play with.

My name is Dan, and I'm the proud brother of

Khalid Al-Saud, who's also known by as Anthony Gignac.

You guys aren't the first ones that have tried

to reach out to me.

I have been just

constantly, constantly contacted by writers, journalists --

that want to do a story,

and I've never wanted to talk about it.

But I'm sick and tired of people thinking that

my brother is this weirdo, crazy con man.

They don't see the Khalid that I know,

they don't see what he's gone through,

they don't see the history.

I've always believed that you can't judge somebody

unless you know their back story.

This is one of my favorite pictures of him.

It was when he was overseas right before he got arrested.

But I always look at this picture

because it tells me a lot.

It just tells me that he has finally reached the top --

where he's always wanted to be.

But when I look at it, he's alone.

You can kind of look in the face

and just see that he's just not happy.

I just think it just really sums up a lot about him.

I'm looking where? There?

Just make me look good! Nah, I'm kidding!

I've been doing interior design for about 38 years,

and my specialty is luxury interior design.

Excess is the word.

I have designed 16 palaces worldwide,

mostly in the Middle East, such as Dubai,

Abu Dhabi, Saudi Arabia, for big families with names

I shall not mention, because I cannot.

"That's a Perla Lichi."

It became like a household name.

You know, I don't mind it, I mean it's good.

I was sitting in my office, and I get a phone call:

Khalid Bin Sultan Al-Saud.

And he's talking to me, "Hi!

I heard about you from my friend...

and I'm buying a penthouse in Fisher Island,

and I need to see you now

because I need to put an offer,

and you need to look at it before I buy it

because before I buy it I need to hear your opinion,

and you need to come and look at it!"

Who am I to say no?

This is a royalty -- Al-Saud Family.

I've worked with them before.

So we set up the appointment for three o'clock the next day.

♪♪

Fisher Island is a private island,

so you can't just go there.

I'm all excited, because I'm going to get to meet

another member of the Al-Saud family.

[ Angelic harp strings ]

He came over and my first impression was,

"Oh! He looks like a cool guy."

A young guy, all decked out with jewelry.

He was wearing furry slippers.

He had an entourage with him.

But what really got my attention was the dog.

He had this Chihuahua.

Foxy the dog, and she was wearing this

Burberry plaid shirt, with a Tiffany necklace.

I mean, a guy that dresses up a dog with designer fashion...

I just felt like he was into detail.

The first thing he did was offer his hand to shake my hand.

So my first reaction was, "Oh, wow!" --

cause culturally speaking,

the men and the women don't touch hands.

Also I noticed that he really sounds more American.

So I figured, "Oh, he's very Americanized, great..."

He said, "Let's go look at the penthouse."

A raw, empty, two-story penthouse.

Immediately, he says, "You know what I like!"

I'm like "No, give me an idea."

"Well you know the Burj Al Arab.

I want gold doors, and I want the staircase with gold leaf.

I want you to do it the way you do everything.

The way you do the Dubai style."

And me -- I can't help it.

I can't help it! This is my thing.

I got all excited, and I start going crazy with ideas,

about "What we going to do the ceiling?

The ceiling is the icing on the cake!

And we're going to do this, and then the walls,

we're going to give it dimension!"

And then as soon as he sees me do my thing, he goes,

"Oh, my God, there she goes...

There she goes! She's doing her thing.

There goes Perla!"

He was very quick to talk, very quick to act,

very quick to expect you to jump.

And I think that's why I got along with him,

because I'm also very quick.

After all of that, he's telling me the budget.

He's thinking five million dollars,

six million dollar budget to fit it all out.

He's all excited.

I'm ready to make this penthouse,

like, magnificent.

So two days later we had another meeting,

at the Fontainebleau Hotel.

The Fontainebleau is a huge resort in Miami Beach,

and it's a famous hotel.

They called from London.

Might've known M wouldn't book me into the best hotel

in Miami Beach out of pure gratitude.

It was 11:01,

I'm a block away from The Fontainebleau Hotel.

He's calling me, "Where are you? Where are you? You're late!

You're costing me a fortune!"

"Oh, I'm sorry, I'm three minutes away.

I'm almost there."

"Well you're costing me $100,000 dollars, you're late!

Okay, when you get there, just tell them

you're going to park next to my Rolls Royce,

and you're going to know my Rolls Royce when you see it,

'cause you're going to know the license plate.

And it's very easy to know. It says..."

"Oh, I'm sorry I'm late, I apologize."

"It's okay, come on, now I need your opinion."

Takes me to the jewelry store

of the Fontainebleau Hotel.

"What do you think? This one or this one?"

So I'm looking at the two... "For you?"

"Yeah which one should I get?"

"If you can't decide, take 'em both, I don't -- "

"Oh, she's right! I'll take 'em both.

They hold them aside, "I'll have my assistant

pick them up -- alright, see, you cost me all this money!

Let's go!"

The whole time, I'm trying to figure out

what kind of style is this guy going to want.

But Khalid is a very fast talker.

You can ask him questions,

but he will answer you with another question.

He orders a lot of food.

Nachos, sushi, champagne -- I don't drink Champagne.

He didn't eat anything.

He says, "I'm taking it home for Foxy."

I didn't get that many notes on the condo,

on the style, from that meeting

My feeling was, love the guy, fun guy to be with,

but maybe he was a little, maybe ADD.

So as we're leaving, he says to me,

"What do you think about this hotel?"

"It's fabulous! Why?"

"Well, I'm thinking about buying it.

What do you think? Should I buy it?"

I'm like, "Go for it! Get it!

I'll redesign it for you. Go for it."

That was my first meeting with Khalid.

[ Laughs ] Fun!

I cost him a lot!

Man: Fontainebleau. You know what it is.

Living life.

Celebrating life.

Doing me.

And fuck all the haters.

Get on my level.

Man: I've never seen anything like this before.

That can't possibly be what is happening.

There's just no way that's true.

One day I was sitting in my office and saw one

of the State Department agents walking down the hall.

He says he's there to present this case to our office.

We've got this guy driving around Miami

in a Ferrari with diplomatic license plates on,

claiming to be a prince from Saudi Arabia.

I said to him like, "Man, I'd love to be the prosecutor

on this case."

I didn't realize when I said that,

that it wasn't just a guy driving around

Miami in a Ferrari with diplomatic license plates.

Khalid Bin Al-Saud was trying to purchase,

like, a 30% interest in the Fontainebleau Hotel

at the tune of $400 million.

So back in March of 2017 the prince approached the owner,

Jeffrey Soffer.

Jeffrey Soffer is a billionaire that lives in South Florida,

is kind of the celebrity of South Florida.

He's been married to supermodels...

So he's very well known.

The prince then starts to build a relationship

with Jeffrey Soffer, Jeffrey Soffer's management team.

He buys them gifts.

They buy him gifts in return.

But Jeffrey Soffer's a very sophisticated businessman.

So he does his due diligence,

and he orders a background check on the prince.

And while this is going on, Jeffrey takes the prince

and his entourage to Aspen on his plane.

Gignac: You know what it is. We're taking off.

Getting ready to board.

You know how we do it.

Jordan: But while they're there,

there's a couple of interesting things that take place.

First the Prince gets a call from his place on Fisher Island,

it's about Soffer's background check.

"People are asking questions about you.

They're asking if you own this building that you live in."

The prince loses his cool.

"You've insulted my honor!

You've disgraced me!

This is not how we do business.

This business deal is off.

I'm going to sue you.

I'm going to sue everybody!"

One of the prince's associates approaches

Jeffery Soffer's associates in tears:

"You've insulted his honor. This deal is off.

The only way you guys can get this deal back on

is if you get him a gift."

I think in that moment, they wonder,

"What if he really is a prince?"

Gignac: You know what it is.

Jordan: The Soffer family presents the prince

with a $50,000 Cartier bracelet.

And everyone kind of like kisses and makes up.

But the next day, the prince, in the middle of this meal

was said to be seen eating prosciutto.

Not just, like, eating a little bit,

like, eating a lot of, to the point where

people on Jeffrey Soffer's team

noticed that the dietary restrictions of a Muslim

were being broken by the prince.

And so they kind of come back from this trip

thinking this is not what we would normally expect

how a prince should act.

Lichi: Khalid was texting me a lot.

He liked name dropping.

"I want to see you again and we need to meet."

So I said sure!

I hop in his Ferrari,

he puts the top down,

says, "We're going for sushi."

So I said, "Let me take some video."

So I took a video.

Here, aren't we the fabulous eva'?

Whoo!

I figured he's a cool guy.

I'm having fun.

It's Miss Perla!

There's my Khalid!

There we go, there it goes, let it blow, let it blow, whoo!

Still don't know what color scheme

he wants in his penthouse.

Bravo, bravissimo!

My feeling with Khalid was that he really needed a friend,

and I got close to him because I liked the guy.

My fabulous Khalid!

Say hello, Khalid!

Here we are, on the boat!

Wait, wait, wait, let me see the smile.

That's better!

Khalid always said, "Let's go on the boat,"

but it's really a yacht.

It had a living room, it had a bar,

it had an outside deck,

he had the jet skis there.

Gignac: Yeah, this is boss shit.

My new Yacht.

The crew of the yacht had their polo shirt

with embroidered logo with the name Bin Sultan.

He had other people that he introduced to me.

The CEO, Carl.

He seemed like a very polished man.

Of course I remember his British accent.

My opinion about Carl was,

"Maybe he's more of a business man,

and Khalid is more of the outgoing type."

Because they were very contrasting personalities.

And then he decided to go on FaceTime, and he says,

"Let me introduce you to my designer Perla Lichi.

Say hello to my friend Jeffrey Soffer."

So I'm like, "Hi, Jeffrey!"

It's at this point

that they've gotten so far into this business deal,

and things aren't happening the way

a business deal should happen.

It's just not normal, it's abnormal.

So this is when DC Page and his team come into this story.

So I'll never forget, it was late on a Friday afternoon,

and I got a call from the ownership group

of the Fontainebleau Hotel.

They asked me to look into somebody they were dealing with

claiming to be a Saudi Prince.

They went through all the different encounters

they had with this subject, and one of them was that

he invites somebody along in his Ferrari,

and drives him home from the airport.

He's driving like a maniac, and he's bragging

that he doesn't worry about getting pulled over

because he has diplomatic plates,

and he has diplomatic immunity.

That really caught my attention.

Having worked in the federal government

I know a lot about diplomats and how that system works,

and just because you're a Saudi prince

doesn't mean you're a diplomat

from Saudi Arabia here in the United States.

And the end of the conversation was, "Can you tell me,

you know, who this person is,

and if they're not who they say they are,

what are they up to?"

So, we send somebody out to Fisher Island,

get a picture of some of the cars,

and a clear shot of his diplomatic license plate.

So I started to Google "diplomatic plates."

As I'm getting my hit list and that, I get a pop up

from eBay with the prince's license plate,

the exact license plate, and it says,

"Buy a diplomatic plate."

For $79.

So now we're very confident that this guy is not a prince

and he's not who he says he is.

So the next step is to figure out who he really is.

You always come up with the prince

and the prince's identity, because there is a real prince,

and our prince has taken his name.

Our first break was when our head research analyst

finds a court case where the prince's name is mentioned,

and the Prince is really Anthony Gignac.

Jordan: He had a pretty extensive rap sheet.

Anthony Gignac has been

pretending to be Khalid Bin Al-Saud

since he was basically 19-years-old.

You couldn't make up this story in your wildest dreams.

♪♪

In 1991,

the Los Angeles Times called him the Prince of Fraud.

You know, when I saw that article,

it was just like, oh, my gosh, 1991?

He's been doing this for 30 years!

He didn't just create the persona in one chapter,

He did one chapter after another,

after another, after another.

Even when he was caught and in some cases jailed,

he would just keep going.

In 1991, he went on a joy ride with a limousine company.

he never paid for $7,500.

After a short stint in jail,

he checked into the Ritz-Carlton in San Francisco

under the name of the Saudi prince

and did not pay the bill.

On the Big Island of Hawaii

he was actually successful in convincing a couple

to write a check for $8,500 for an interest in an oil field

in Saudi Arabia that didn't exist.

You have to give this to him, he's incredibly bright.

He knew how to act the part.

He surfaces again where he charged $27,000 to a hotel

and spent $51,000 at a Saks Fifth Avenue

using an American Express card with the name of a Saudi prince.

Again he gets caught and he is sentenced to 616 days.

He kept ratcheting up the stakes.

He knew the bigger, the brasher, the better.

What happened next has become a part of the legend

of Anthony Gignac.

While in jail he started contacting attorneys,

and he contacted one attorney

and he convinced this attorney

that his father, the king, would pay,

and the attorney began representing him.

So the attorney gets him out on bail.

Two bail bondsmen pick him up

and take him to the bail bonds office,

to wait for the money.

But the money never comes, and so they said,

"Prince, we have to take you back to jail."

And on the way to jail they pass an American Express office.

He says, "Let me go in there for a minute."

He walked inside, he said he'd been mugged,

that he had lost his credit cards,

and that his father, the king, would be most upset.

He was asked,

"What were the last two purchases that you made?"

And he was somehow able to answer those questions.

And he walked out with a credit card

that supposedly had a $200 million credit limit.

Now it's 2003, and he's right back at it.

He got caught because he had charged

$11,000 to Saks Fifth Avenue

and $18,000 to Neiman Marcus,

where he allegedly chastised the staff

for not showing proper respect to a Saudi royal.

Once again he was apprehended,

and he ended up in an interrogation room.

Man: It says Khalid Bin Al-Saud.

It's not in Anthony Gignac's name.

Anthony Gignac is not my name,

I actually legally changed my name to Khalid Bin Al-Saud.

My Social Security number is Khalid Bin Al-Saud.

My college transcript is Khalid Bin Al-Saud.

My naturalization and immigration records,

Khalid Bin Al-Saud.

That narrows it down to who?

Khalid Bin Al-Saud.

That's why your scam's so good.

It's not a scam

Seal: He officially changed his name

to the name of an actual prince.

He also was able to get documents

in the name of the prince as well.

First of all I come into Neiman Marcus,

I have almost half a million dollars in jewelry,

I have $4,000 in cash.

I had a Citibank Platinum Visa

and a Citibank Platinum Mastercard.

If you're so pristine, if you're --

See, there you go, playing into --

I have very low ego, I -- I only like jewelry.

My jewelry speaks for itself. Cars? And cars?

Your brother says you like cars.

And my Ferraris.

I'm gonna show [unintelligible] for a Ferrari.

I know it's hard to believe, everybody,

I know it's like, you know, "This kid, is super good."

And I give my credit -- myself credit for being

intelligent enough -- I'll tell you right now,

I'm not willing to do anything until you cut the crap.

Okay, well let me call the embassy,

and just show you how I can get

a hold of the ambassador from Saudi Arabia.

If I can get on the phone right now

and say this is Khalid Bin Al-Saud --

[ Speaking gibberish ]

Seal: His Arabic may sound amazing to the untrained ear

but he's not saying anything at all.

It's hard to fathom how he could do this, right?

Even when he's jailed, that doesn't stop him.

And then after a brief stint in jail,

eventually he comes out and heads to the big time --

Miami Beach -- and from there on,

that's when the story really begins.

So this is the part of the story where I come in.

After we learned all this,

we're left kind of wondering what the con is.

He just got off of federal probation, you know,

less than a year ago --

what is going on?

Page: When we look at his past criminal acts,

he appears to be somewhat of a low-level con --

defrauding hotels and credit card companies,

and so, what's the con in Miami?

Gignac: You know what the fuck it is.

Page: He's living much more larger

than he has with his other cons,

Gignac: Some real boss shit.

You know how we do it, Louis Vuitton.

Page: He's living in a nice place in Fisher Island.

Gignac: Everything is Louis.

Jordan: All of the clothing is top of the line.

The guy had a lot of jewelry.

He's got two Rolls-Royce,

a black one and a white one.

He's got a Mercedes.

He's got the Ferrari.

He's out to dinner all the time.

Gignac: Nothing but the best for Foxy.

When our agents went out to ask questions,

everybody seemed to know who Khalid Bin Al-Saud was.

Gignac: Appetizers.

Jordan: The odd part was, everywhere he went,

when he would buy food, or champagne,

if it wasn't consumed, he would always doggy bag it

or take the bottles with him.

Which was very odd for these high end restaurants

because normally if people don't consume it all,

they just leave it.

Page: Also the interesting thing was he's paying his bills.

So he actually has money.

Gignac: You know what it is.

You know what it is.

As we started uncovering more of his past,

it actually became more complex to us

as to what was really going on in Miami.

Gignac: Tell them, Foxy, what a new bathroom look like.

A new remodel in the bathroom.

$300,000 bathroom.

Jordan: Obviously we know he's impersonating a diplomat.

So we felt like it was smarter at that point

to actually have him arrested.

But we don't know where Anthony Gignac's at.

We have no clue where he is, because he's not in Miami.

Lichi: He told me that he was going away on a trip,

called by his family,

where the whole family had to get together.

And he did keep me updated on the trip with photos and videos.

Showing me Hong Kong, showing me Dubai.

He did send me a video of him on a camel in Dubai.

Gignac: I had to ride a camel. I'm in Dubai.

It's what you do.

Traded in my Ferrari.

Yeah, you know what we do.

But I did get a few texts a few times

where he was not so thrilled, where he says "I'm not happy."

"Sometimes I feel so lonely."

So I said, spend time with my family.

Let's do Thanksgiving together.

So that was the plan --

to do Thanksgiving at my house in November.

Jordan: We had to do an investigation to figure out

that he was actually overseas

and he was on an international trip.

So now it becomes kind of a waiting game

of when's he coming back to the country,

how do we not spook him, because we don't want him to run

and become an international fugitive.

So now we start to track him,

figure out he's coming back into the United States.

Lichi: Right before Thanksgiving,

I hear from one of the realtors that was working with Khalid

in Fisher Island.

"Did you hear what happened to him?"

I said, "No."

"I'm gonna send you the links."

♪♪

And I started reading, I'm like, "Wow!"

[ Siren wailing ]

He's not from Saudi Arabia!

He's from Colombia!

It was a shock.

I definitely had mixed emotions

because I grew to like the person.

I developed feelings, trust...

But yet, this is serious.

Then my mind goes.

Rewind.

All these little red flags

when I rewinded our relationship, came to me.

Holding the hand up to me.

Accent -- not once did I hear him speak

or say anything in Arabic.

And it dawned on me, and I was like, "Wow!"

I can tell he's good.

He's good, to -- to pull it off.

I mean, all I could think of was that movie,

"Catch Me If You Can."

Page: It's at this point that I'm wondering, who is this guy?

Where does all this fixation on wealth come from?

Dan: Everything goes back to our days of being street children,

trying to survive at three and four years old.

We were born in Bogota, Colombia.

It was very poor.

I've always used the expression

that I was weaned by the streets.

It was basically, survive, at whatever will you can,

or you're just gonna die,

and nobody will ever know who you were.

I think it's because my brother is a little over a year older

than me that he's had to be my father, be my protector.

We lived in the streets for a while,

and then we were picked up and placed into the orphanage.

The last memory that I have of Colombia

is when our American adopted parents

came and picked us up.

So we end up coming to Plymouth, Michigan.

Everything was just so new and so different.

When we lived in Colombia,

we didn't know where our next food was coming from.

The first time that our mom did laundry,

she found food in our pockets.

She realized that what Khalid and I would do

is we would hide food around the house

so that if there was no food,

we would always know where there was food.

To go from living on the streets, eating on the streets,

to being able to eat anything you want at any time you want,

you know, that's huge.

But there was so many things going on in our lives

that our parents couldn't really see.

We lived in a predominantly white area,

where I would say it was 99% white people.

My brother and I would be the subjects of

racial discrimination,

and taunting and bullying by the kids

because we were quite different.

This is about the time

that a lot of problems started to develop.

My brother did have some issues, behavioral issues.

He was considered to be a little different.

And then slowly you would just see this fascination

manifesting in my brother.

Welcome to television's unchallenged authority

on wealth, prestige, and success.

It's another dazzling

"Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous"!

When lifestyles of the rich and famous was on TV,

that was his world.

He loved that show.

Everything about it.

I mean, he knew about champagne,

he knew about caviar.

How does a kid from the streets of Colombia

even know what caviar is?

But as soon as he saw it on that show he knew what it was.

Khalid took that imagination that kid's have,

and concentrated it on something luxurious.

Rich stuff.

In the sixth grade I started noticing that

he would embellish the truth.

My friends would come up to me and ask me,

"Is your mom a doctor?"

And I would say no, and I'd be like, "Why?"

And they'd be like, "Well, your brother

is saying that she's a doctor."

And I'd be like, "No, she's a nurse."

And then other times he would tell people

that we were owners of the Mackinaw Hotel.

And that wasn't the truth.

But we did own it, according to him.

"Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" showed him

that it was material things that meant stuff.

You know, and in order to be somebody

you had to have material stuff.

Because everything we were exposed to

was really the American dream.

Material, material, material.

Gignac: You choose.

2016 Maserati.

2016 Ferrari California T.

It was a vehicle for him to get to what he wanted.

And that was being accepted.

Khalid wants the world to love him

because that's how he feels loved,

it's the love that he's never had,

the acceptance that he's never had.

And I think that that was just something that

he fixated himself on,

and, "That's me, and that's how I'm gonna be."

And food is a huge thing in his life.

And the thousand dollar plates,

the bottles of Dom P.

Food was that to my brother, was a status,

that he's made it.

So being the prince gave him a sense of security,

it gave him a sense of self-worth --

something that we've never had.

Gignac: You know what it is, we shut the pools down

so that a boss can swim in private.

There's Foxy chilling.

Foxy!

Her Louis Vuitton bag.

This is what bosses do.

We shut the entire pool down.

Jordan: The prince is living the life

that an A-list celebrity would live.

He's blowing through millions of dollars in just a year,

and it's just all going to living.

The old idiom, right, is: "Follow the money."

That's what we did, just follow the money.

And so, by the time he kinda enters into my sphere,

the con game has dramatically increased.

He comes up with the con of all cons.

We find out that all the money that is supporting

this lifestyle is coming from his company

called Marden Williamson International.

We start looking into "What does this corporation do?"

And we realize that it doesn't actually do anything.

But it's got all this money that's coming into it.

We find that it comes from individuals,

we find it comes from other corporations.

And these other individuals

and these other corporations tell us,

"No, I'm giving money to this investment

for the pre-IPO of Saudi Aramco."

Saudi Arabia's oil giant Aramco

is looking for new business opportunities

and is eyeing the U.S.

Aramco is ready to launch an initial public offering

and is considering listing it's shares in New York.

Page: The largest oil company in the world is Saudi Aramco.

And we're talking about having a public offering,

selling stock to the public.

This is a group that is often called

the crown jewel of the kingdom.

Gignac played off of that,

and since his persona was this Saudi prince,

he could offer a "friends and family" offering

to investors.

When the giant oil producer does come to market,

the share sale could become the biggest that's ever been seen.

Man: A record $2 trillion evaluation...

Page: The prince starts talking to investors,

saying, "Hey, listen, invest your money

in Marden Williams International,

and you're basically buying the pre-IPO.

So that when it goes public, you are going to benefit

just like anybody else in the Saudi royal family.

Investors are now one step closer to the opportunity

of owning a piece of the world's most profitable company.

And the reason why he was able to really kind of pull this...

this con off, is 'cause he's not just

the only person talking to anybody.

Seal: To move his game to the next level

he needed someone with access to real money and real wealth

and he found him in Carl Marden Williamson.

He had a British accent

and he had a wealth of international connections.

Jordan: If you look Carl Williamson up,

you'll find he's gone to law school,

he's got a business history behind him.

So Carl was able to gain people's confidence,

and once they're ready to close the deal

he would bring these victims to the prince.

Jordan: Anthony Gignac would make them feel like

they're investing with a prince,

and then the money starts coming in.

26 investors from around the world

ended up investing

close to $8 million

in this friends and family offering.

Gignac: Foxy and Sultan.

Jordan: The prince was brilliant.

He would read The Wall Street Journal

everyday, he understood what was going on in business.

With every good character, you have to have props

and you have to have costumes.

Page: He had no intent in buying the Fontainebleau Hotel,

his intent was, was to get proximity to somebody important,

hence, the Fontainebleau and the icon of Miami.

And you go, "Oh, yeah, I know the owner,

and I know the manager,"

so that gave him credibility

in the rest of his scams.

Jordan: He treated everybody in a different way

based on what they needed to be treated

so he could get what he wanted.

He knew how to play that,

he knew how to be mild and meek,

and he understood when he needed to be

the loudest voice in the room.

He was a chameleon.

Lichi: He played it so right.

He lived the part -- with the cars,

with the entourage,

with the interior designer that did palaces.

Gignac: With Perla Lichi.

He's putting me together with all those name brands,

Ferrari, Rolls-Royce.

My designer.

Wow!

That was how he played it.

And he's good at it.

Jordan: This is the real sad part, though --

people were duped.

People believed in this man.

They weren't just high net worth individuals who lost something.

These were average, everyday individuals

that worked their 9-to-5 jobs,

and had worked in their industry for 20, 30 years,

and they gave everything they had,

with the hopes that they could double this or triple it,

or whatever the promise was.

When you read the victim statements,

you do get a sense of their pain, the suffering,

and the embarrassment that this man caused.

Jordan: The first time I see him in court

I'm unimpressed because there's nothing about him

physically that draws your attention

to command like respect,

he doesn't have the body guards around him,

he doesn't have the entourage,

he doesn't have the fancy clothes and the watches,

and the fake diplomatic license plate.

You know, he's in prison garb.

He's just a short little pudgy guy.

Seal: By the time that I saw him in the courtroom,

I had of course seen his Instagram page.

It was just an endless display of just wealth.

Dan: He's a Christmas tree,

all these things are his ornaments.

And whoever has the most beautiful Christmas tree,

it's usually filled with gifts, and family, those are --

that's a beautiful Christmas tree.

And he'll do anything he can to have that Christmas tree

and be that Christmas tree.

But the motivating factor,

the engine behind his actions,

is his mental health issues,

which control him.

When he was young my brother started having a lot,

a lot of mental health problems.

He started having severe breakdowns,

where the ambulance would have to come

to try to calm him down,

to try to do something to help him.

He was diagnosed as a bipolar manic depressive,

my mom couldn't afford to pay for his help and the treatment.

So the state stepped in, said we'll take care of him

and we'll put him in a facility.

But I think my brother was treated as a prisoner

even though he had never committed a crime.

He was never treated for anything that he suffered.

I think all of that to this day

plays a huge role in his actions.

With as much time as my brother has done in prison,

he's never received any mental health counseling.

If he would have been properly treated

he wouldn't have had this problem,

we wouldn't be talking about him today.

They just put him in prison,

and allow him to get deeper, and deeper

into this mental health state that he's in.

This was a saveable life.

This was a saveable human being.

But no one took that step to save him.

Jordan: I think Anthony was after a couple of things,

I think the money aspect of this helped him

to live this kind fantasy life he always wishes that he had,

and that was the finer things.

But I also think within that

is he wanted people to believe that he was special.

And what better way can anyone think that you're special

than to think that you're royalty?

This becomes like the fairytale story, right?

An orphan on the streets of Colombia

who rises to be prince.

Out of nothing to something.

It's a tragic story really, in the end, though,

because of where it led him.

How do I feel about it?

Did he -- did he do to me what --

what he has done to others?

Can I judge him? I cannot.

I can only judge by what has happened to me.

I'm disappointed.

But I can also feel he was somebody maybe in pain,

and somebody that suffered a lot

when he was the orphan in Colombia.

I don't believe that the money is what made Khalid happy,

it was the show,

it was the attention people gave him

for being the prince,

for being somebody on top of the world,

rather than at the bottom of the world.

So, I believe he lived the American dream,

the Saudi prince dream,

the "Catch Me If You Can" movie dream.

What do I think Khalid is gonna want to do

when he gets out of prison?

He's gonna want to be the king!
