The Long Ballad

Episode 47

That’s a lot to ask.

I can promise you to cure Mu Jin.

As for your Father Khan,

when the Eagle Division wins the war for me,

Then I will let you reunite with your father.

You finally admit it.

It is you who got my Father Khan ill.

What’s the point

of talking about these things now?

He brought this all upon himself.

To make him the king, I killed people for him.

You mean you killed Shule Khan too?

I married to a faraway place.

I didn’t have many options.

You killed She’er’s father.

Have you ever thought about him?

When did you start to care about him?

He’s my son. You don’t need to worry.

Mother.

Mother.

You told me Father died of sudden illness.

What are you doing here?

You told me if I sincerely pray to Sirius,

he won’t take Father away.

I knelt along the river every day

to secretly pray to Sirius for his recovery,

and for him not leaving us.

Mother, answer me.

I remember when I was young,

Father always told me we’re men,

we should protect you,

and give all the best to you.

Even if you want stars,

he’ll fly to the sky and pick them for you.

Mother.

Why?

Because if your father is alive,

if Yanli Khan is alive,

I can never go back to my homeland alive,

and I will never revive Great Sui.

But the grassland is also your home.

Great Sui has gone.

Shut up!

To me, the grassland is only a cage.

I’m the daughter of Great Sui.

As long as I’m alive,

it can never perish.

After such a long time, I’ve already come so far.

Great Sui shall rise again.

It will happen soon!

You’re insane.

You’re crazy!

You’re crazy.

You’ve been lying to me

for so long.

Why?

Someone.

Yes.

Send Young Khan to his chambers and take care of him.

Are you deaf? Do it now.

Yes.

[Stand Aloof From Worldly Success]

Prince Consort Du, congratulations!

You’re welcome.

Hao Du is fine.

Okay.

Hao Du, where’s the Princess?

Brother Shuyu.

Why are you here?

I thought it’d be Changge.

I came to give you something from Changge.

Changge embroidered this fan herself around the clock.

It’s a wedding gift for you and the Prince Consort.

Where is she?

She’s gone.

She’s afraid of saying goodbye,

especially to you.

So she asked me to give it to you.

She told me

you’ll always be a little rabbit deep down her heart.

You must be happy.

The couple of mandarin ducks is my blessing.

Hao Du.

Leyan is my little sister forever.

You can’t hurt her.

If she’s not happy,

I’ll take her away.

Don’t worry.

You’ll never get the chance.

Hao Du.

I’m afraid I can’t see Changge again in my lifetime.

Don’t worry.

I’ve checked it out.

Your father asked Li Jing to go to Dingxiang with troops.

My father recommended him a lot.

Changge’s very smart.

They’ll be fine.

Leyan.

I have a little favor to ask you.

Between us, do you even have to say that?

My father is getting sicker day by day.

His biggest wish is to see our wedding.

But I’m scared that he won’t last until that day.

I understand.

We can have a small wedding ceremony at Du Manor.

No princes and nobles.

Only you, me and...

and Father.

But I don’t want you to be treated wrongly.

No, it’s not.

We can fulfill his wish.

It’s worth it.

Li Shimin has appointed Li Jing, the Minister of War,

as the military chief of Dingxiang Division,

Li Ji, governor of Bingzhou,

as military chief of Tonghan Division,

Chai Shao, governor of Huazhou,

as military chief of Jinhe Division,

Xue Wanche, the governor of Lingzhou,

as military chief of Changwu Division.

All of them follow the command of Li Jing.

They’ve arrived at Eyang Mountain yesterday.

How many people together?

More than 100,000.

Ashile Tribe has many subordinates.

If we get them together,

we’ll not necessarily lose to Li Jing.

How was the war in the west?

Yesterday Ashile Yugu was defeated by Pusa, the King of Mobei.

King of Monan, Yinan, has united forces in the desert.

They have defeated four Divisions of Ashile Tribe

and captured four generals.

Many tribes promised to dispatch, but still are no moving till now.

I guess...

Guess what?

They’ve been bought off.

How’s Mu Jin?

As you commanded,

Mu Jin has only skin traumas.

He’s fine now. He can get out of bed.

Alright.

The master can meet his servant.

Bring Ashile Sun here.

Before seeing Mu Jin,

he can see his Yanli.

Princess.

Considering Yanli’s condition now,

will it be bad for Ashile Sun to meet him?

In Dingxiang,

there’re two men Ashile Sun cares most.

One is Mu Jin,

the other one is Yanli.

If he doesn’t see them both,

how can he help me without worry?

It’s alright.

Just let him know

how his father is controlled by me.

Yes.

Father Khan, I’m late.

Father.

It’s me, A’Sun.

Father, wait for me.

That’s enough?

Don’t worry.

I won’t kill him.

Remember your word.

Otherwise,

I’ll destroy Dingxiang with Eagle Division.

Now, please write a military order and send it to Mu Jin.

You have five days.

After that,

I want to see elite troops of Eagle Division

gathering and waiting for my order

at the Chengqi Gate of the palace.

At that time, your Father Khan will be fine.

Be careful.

Sun.

I know it’s you.

Mu Jin.

I’m late.

How can they treat you like this?

It’s not important now.

You’re alive. That’s all.

He asked Lei Meng to supervise you.

You’ve suffered a lot for me.

We’re brothers, don’t say that.

Sun, why did you come here?

You and Father Khan are in Dingxiang,

how can I stay in Great Tang alone?

Where’s Mimi?

She came here, too.

But she can’t see us now.

I’ve met Buzhen.

Ashile Sun.

Khatun sends you here not for greeting.

Mu Jin.

I wrote this military order.

Take it.

Gather the Eagle Division.

What?

She’er.

It’s late now.

Why come here for me?

Am I the stupidest idiot in this world?

You drank a lot. I’ll send you back.

You...

Tell me.

Am I the most stupid person in the world?

My mother killed my father.

Uncle Khan killed my wolf on purpose

to drive a wedge between me and Sun.

Now she poisoned Uncle Khan.

And I only found out everything now—

What?

They dared to do those things

and I can’t talk about them?

They’re all liars. They all lied to me.

Everyone lied to me.

[Dingxiang]

Take care.

Just go.

[Dingxiang]

Go.

Go.

You woke up?

Why am I here?

You drunk a lot last night.

Drink some water.

Thank you.

Why are you looking at me?

You...

You’re so kind.

She’er.

I know you treat me as a friend.

But we’re different.

If Khatun knows you slept here last night,

I’ll get scolded.

Sorry. I’ll go now.

I don’t know why I came to you last night.

Maybe I think it’s safe here. So...

If you’re ever in a bad mood in the future,

just come to me.

Thank you.

Do you remember when I said that when I become the Great Khan,

I’ll make you my Khatun?

She’er.

But now I don’t want to be Great Khan anymore.

[Du Manor]

Are you afraid of my death?

No.

You’ll have a peaceful life with good fortune.

You’re getting more and more ridiculous.

You’re acting on your own.

You’re hastily holding the wedding in advance,

won’t the Princess be aggrieved?

She said she won’t.

I’ve already asked His Majesty to punish me.

His Majesty approved to make it simple.

She doesn’t want to give you a hard time.

You’re so blessed to have

such a considerate wife.

Yes.

I’ll treat her well and be loyal to His Majesty.

Father.

How many relatives and friends do you want to invite?

You want a simple one.

Our family is enough.

I’m sick now.

Don’t let them worry about me.

Forget it.

Father.

You’ll be fine.

I know my condition.

I worry about you.

It’s a great chance to make contribution

if you follow Li Jing to attack Dingxiang.

But you gave it up for me.

Don’t think that I don’t know.

I only have one father.

There will be opportunities for me to accomplish merits.

I don’t want to have any regrets.

And you said that you’re not afraid that I’ll die.

I heard Li Changge went to Dingxiang too.

Yes.

Once the ceremony ends,

set out to Dingxiang.

If Li Changge dies,

how will you answer to the Princess?

But your condition...

Don’t care about me.

You’ve fulfilled your filial piety to me with an advanced wedding.

It’s a critical moment.

You should be loyal to His Majesty,

and also protect the person the Princess cares about.

That’s what a husband should do.

I understand.

Father.

You have to wait for me.

I won’t leave you before the battle of Dingxiang ends.

You never thought of me leading the army out.

You just use me to assemble the Eagle Division.

Good tactics, Khatun.

Nothing is too deceitful in war.

You’ve been in many battles before.

I guess you know it well.

When the war ends,

I’ll allow you to greet your Eagle Division.

If you were a man,

people should fear you.

Listen.

Eagle Division is coming.

They’re gathering at the gate.

Guess who will issue the order?

Because of you, Father Khan’s too sick to talk.

How can he issue the order?

It’s fine as long as he’s around.

I’ll be your Father Khan’s mouth.

[Dingxiang]

Why is Tegin Sun not here?

[Dingxiang]

What happened to the Great Khan?

Only Khatun knows.

You stick with the plan later.

Grill it on fire.

[Gather Eagle Division’s elite warriors]

[and gather in front of the palace in five days.]

[There can be no delays.]

Rescue Khan and work with Li Jing.

Don’t worry about me.

Where do we go after going outside the city?

Go meet the Tang Army.

Go.

Go.

Go.

Go. Go.

Go.

Princess.

Why is it so noisy outside?

What happened?

The Eagle Division betrayed us and rescued Great Khan.

They have already left the city.

What?

Ashile Sun.

It’s you.

Nothing is too deceitful in war.

You’ve calculated everything,

but you’ve been blinded by an eagle.

You pretended to be fooled,

so you can rescue Yanli.

You’re a woman.

You can’t issue the order.

You won’t allow She’er to do that, me neither.

So the Great Khan is your only choice.

Ashile Sun, you’re great.

You aren’t afraid of dying, are you?

Even if I don’t do these things,

will you spare my life?

Lei Meng.

Yes.

My order to all divisions in the grassland.

The Eagle Division turned betrayed us and kidnapped Great Khan.

Dingxiang’s cavalry failed to catch them.

The Great Khan has been killed by the Eagle Division.

I have his token and exercise the military command on his behalf.

Yes.

Not enough.

Inform commanders of Ashile Tribe.

Set off to Dingxiang right now.

Three days later, at noon,

I’ll execute someone as a warning to others.

As you command.

Execute someone as a warning to others.

But I’ve never thought I can leave here alive

after I came to Dingxiang.

Even if you frame me and capture me,

it’s better than being your slave.

Don’t worry.

Your death wouldn’t be in vain.

Every division will know clearly what happens when you betray me!

Changge.

If possible,

I really want to be with you forever.

However,

I must break my promise.

[Dingxiang]

Xibi Division is here.

Shixin Division is here too.

Young Master.

Why are you hitting me the moment we meet?

Why are you here?

I informed him.

Don’t scold me.

If you didn’t leave without a notice,

I wouldn’t do that.

I thought of it,

I still worry about you.

So I tell him to come.

Princess Tujia was right.

Young Master, why come here alone? It’s dangerous.

I was worried about you when I knew it.

My men in Yanxing Sect have taken the lead.

Shiba and Situ Langlang are going to be here soon.

Shuyu.

General Li and I pleaded to help you.

We met your friends and knew you’re here.

This is great.

We can share the same destiny again and go through thick and thin together.

He’s right.

Friends should share the good and the bad.

Don’t worry.

We’re all standing by your side.

We’ll definitely help you save the one you love.

Thank you.

What should we do now?

Enter the gate first.

There are so many of us.

We must find a better way to go inside.

[Dingxiang]

Get into the city?

I can do that.

[Ashile]

Look. [Ashile]

[Ashile]

All tribes controlled by Ashile Tribe have this token.

It’s a sign of loyalty.

You can even go into Khan’s Tent with it.

You stole your father’s token?

We can’t get inside without it.

Anyway, I took it from my father.

It’s not stealing it.

I just borrowed it for a while.

It’ll be useless in the future.

It’s just a piece of scrap.

Let’s go, everyone.
