Story of Yanxi Palace

Episode 25

7

If not because His Majesty kept suppressing it,

8

I don't know how huge this matter could have escalated.

9

Empress Dowager...

10

Empress Dowager, I beg you to save Hongzhou.

11

I beg you to save Hongzhou.

12

Rise quickly.

13

Hongzhou was sickly since he was little,

14

but he's especially close to his royal brother.

15

Every time he had some delicious food or fun games,

16

he would remember to share them with him.

17

In his heart, the words "royal brother"

18

are more important than I am.

19

Even if Hongzhou indeed did something very bad,

20

may Empress Dowager and His Majesty consider the past

21

and spare him!

22

Hurry and assist your mistress up first.

23

It's not that I don't want to help you.

24

The public is now watching closely and there are rumors spreading everywhere.

25

Even His Majesty is being pressured by the Imperial relatives.

26

He's really in a difficult spot.

27

Your Majesty, you usually are very resolute.

28

How come only towards Prince He of the First Rank...

29

Forgive me for being talkative. I know that you have a benevolent heart.

30

But this matter of Prince He of the First Rank has incited public rage. If he doesn't get severely punished,

31

I fear that we won't be able to silence the critics.

32

It's all his fault for being usually too arrogant.

33

He has offended so many people.

34

Even if I want to save him,

35

I must rethink it many times.

36

Your Majesty, I actually have an idea.

37

What idea?

38

No one personally saw

39

Prince He of the First Rank committing this absurd act.

40

If...we secretly....

41

handle Wei Yingluo,

42

you then delay this matter for three to five years,

43

once the scandal has passed, no one will remember this case.

44

Would Prince He of the First Rank not be fine then?

45

You're asking me to execute Wei Yingluo?

46

Your Majesty, this idea is indeed a bit sinister but effective.

47

Get lost!

48

Yes.

49

Yingluo!

50

Imperial Consort Dowager Yu wants to see you.

51

Imperial Consort Dowager Yu, what are you doing?

52

Miss Yingluo, I went to the Prince He of the First Rank Manor earlier.

53

I already know all the story behind this case.

54

It was Hongzhou who did wrong.

55

As his mother,

56

I apologize in his behalf.

57

A person should take responsibility for his own actions. This has nothing to do with Your Highness.

58

Hongzhou is my biological son.

59

He makes mistakes because I didn't discipline him strictly.

60

Now, he's unconscious from shock

61

and is gravely ill. The Imperial physician said

62

that this illness will reduce ten years from his lifespan.

63

I know that these ten years of life won't be able to pay for A'Man's life.

64

Even more so, it's not enough to eliminate your hatred towards him.

65

But I beg you, whatever hatred or grudges,

66

just let me pay for it. I beg you to let him go.

67

As long as you're willing to forgive him,

68

I can agree to any conditions of yours.

69

No!

70

Her Highness the Empress guaranteed my testimony in front of His Majesty.

71

If I retract it now,

72

what kind of person will I make Her Highness the Empress look like then?

73

Wei Yingluo, you're just a lowly palace maid.

74

With the status of Imperial Consort Dowager, she still is kneeling before you now.

75

Don't push it too much.

76

All mistakes in the world can be forgiven,

77

only a human life can't be repaid. If you want me to forgive Hongzhou,

78

resurrect my sister first.

79

You...

80

Enough. Bailing, don't blame her.

81

I came this time

82

just to exert whatever effort I can and leave the rest to heaven.

83

For Hongzhou to end up in this state

84

is not someone else's fault.

85

Miss Yingluo, sorry to have disturbed you.

86

Respectfully sending off Imperial Consort Dowager Yu.

87

Doctor Ye!

88

Doctor Ye!

89

Doctor Ye!

90

Doctor Ye!

91

I came to return you the medicine pestle.

92

Doctor Ye!

93

Stop right there!

94

It's me.

95

Hateful!

96

I already told you not act recklessly.

97

You just won't listen. Do you know that you almost died earlier?

98

I...

99

You're worried that Hongzhou will silence me, so you stopped me from investigating the real culprit?

100

Hongzhou is severely ill and currently unconscious. How can he have you killed?

101

The person trying to kill me today

102

isn't Hongzhou?

103

I've already told you many times that Hongzhou is indeed absurd,

104

but he never killed anyone. Your sister's death

105

was really not his doing.

106

Could it be His Majesty is trying to silence me

107

to protect his biological brother?

108

Before, I'd also guessed that possibility.

109

Just to preserve the reputation of Hongzhou,

110

he might have eliminated the victim A'Man.

111

For His Majesty, this doesn't count as murder.

112

It's just lightly brushing away some dirt.

113

If it's really His Majesty, you will never be able to seek vengeance.

114

I'd rather that you don't know anything, so you can be safe.

115

If the Empress didn't come that day, His Majesty would indeed have killed me to vent his anger!

116

No. The matter today proves that everything has nothing to do with His Majesty.

117

He's the Emperor of the Qing Empire.

118

If he wants your life, he could just give instructions

119

to secretly execute you. Why would he still resort to such a huge ruckus?

120

If it's not the Emperor,

121

then there's only one person left.

122

Let's quickly save Doctor Ye!

123

Your Majesty, Imperial Consort Dowager Yu sent her servant to deliver some water lily snacks.

124

I heard that Imperial Consort Dowager went to Jinshui River early this morning to pick some water lilies.

125

She then sent them to the Imperial Kitchen to make this snack.

126

Empress Dowager said that this is your favorite snack when you're little.

127

Imperial Consort Dowager Yu then sent her servant to bring some here.

128

I think...she has an ulterior motive.

129

Hongli, you and Hongzhou entered the palace to accompany Royal Grandfather.

130

Although you're able to earn his favor, you got separated from your family.

131

Second Madam misses you a lot. Hence,

132

she especially asked me to bring you your favorite water lily snack.

133

This...my mother made me these?

134

Third Brother, thank you.

135

Have a taste. It's still hot.

136

Give me one! I want to eat one!

137

Hongzhou!

138

Third Brother was petty, thus Royal Father didn't like him.

139

He feared that the biased love of Royal Father toward me would affect the fight for the future Crown Prince position,

140

so he thought of making the first move of eliminating the obstacle, which was me, to gain the upper hand.

141

If not because Hongzhou was naughty, I'm afraid I would have eaten that water lily snack.

142

Afterwards, although Hongzhou was able to be revived,

143

his health drastically deteriorated.

144

This move by Imperial Consort Dowager Yu...is to remind me to never forget

145

that I owe Hongzhou a life.

146

[ Ice ]

147

- What is this?

- Ice delivered by the Imperial Household Department.

148

It indeed feels a bit cooler.

149

Summer came quite early this year. Your Highness has also been afraid of heat.

150

I was even worried that the Imperial Household Department would drag in their work.

151

Never thought that this time, they were quite fast.

152

Later, once we open and fan it,

153

the cool wind produced will surely be more comfortable.

154

Oh, right. Have you delivered the snacks to Yangxin Palace as I instructed you?

155

Imperial Consort Dowager, don't worry. I sent them early this morning.

156

This is so delicious!

157

Wei Yingluo, you are getting bolder.

158

You're now meddling with my affairs.

159

Your Highness, although watermelon juice is good,

160

it's a cold item.

161

You really can't drink another cup.

162

I'm ordering you to pour me one more cup.

163

I'm just following the instructions of Doctor Ye.

164

As long as it's for your good, I'm willing to get punished.

165

- Wei Yingluo!

- Your Highness, please calm down.

166

- So lively.

- You're getting more and more—

167

Greetings, Your Majesty.

168

The weather is really too hot.

169

Oh, right. I remember that you're afraid of extreme heat the most.

170

I especially asked them to deliver you some ice. Do you feel better?

171

Thank you for your care, Your Majesty.

172

But this year, Yingluo came up with a good idea.

173

It's very useful.

174

What is this thing? What's new about it?

175

Your Majesty, this is an ice mirror. Yingluo.

176

Yes.

177

What's wrong?

178

What is that?

179

What should we do!

180

What's the lead paint for?

181

Replying to Your Majesty, it can block off the external heat and preserve the temperature inside the box.

182

Because of this, if you want to eat a cool fruit or drink, it will be much easier.

183

Li Yu! Tell the Imperial Household Department to make two of these and send to Yangxin Palace.

184

And then send another one to Empress Dowager.

185

Yes.

186

Oh, right, Empress, I still want to tell you one thing.

187

What is it?

188

After two Imperial physicians have examined Prince He of First Rank, they concluded that he's severely ill

189

and needs to recuperate in peace.

190

I can only wait for him to fully recover before dealing with him.

191

His Majesty, by doing this, you will need to endure the pressure from your Imperial relatives,

192

and suppress the different criticisms against him.

193

You are so magnanimous towards Prince He of the First Rank.

194

Hope that he can mend his ways and cherish your grace.

195

Prince He of the First Rank is my biological brother.

196

No matter what mistake he commits, I must be the one to personally sentence him.

197

I also will not allow anyone to do it...on my behalf.

198

Mingyu. Have you prepared the ice bowl that Her Highness the Empress keeps asking for?

199

Soon. Soon. I'll be done soon.

200

Why didn't you use honeyed peach or melon in this bowl?

201

What do you know? His Majesty loves to have iced grape bowl every peak summer.

202

This is just my first year in the palace. Of course, I don't know that.

203

If you don't know, then move aside. Don't block my way.

204

How would I know that it must be grape?

205

Chief Steward Li!

206

Miss Yingluo, why are you running in such a hurry?

207

Does Her Highness the Empress have any instructions?

208

No. It's because I had two ice containers made.

209

One is being used by Changchun Palace now. Yangxin Palace doesn't need to have another one made.

210

He can just have a ready-made one. I've even cooled the fruits already.

211

Okay... Thank you...

212

- Quickly carry it here.

- Miss Yingluo, you really do things so thoroughly.

213

No wonder Her Highness the Empress dotes on you so much.

214

Slowly.

215

Lift it well!

216

Your Majesty, what's wrong?

217

The commode...the commode!

218

Send in the commode!

219

Send in the commode!

220

Coming.

221

Li Yu! The commode! The commode!

222

Commode! Commode!

223

Desheng! Desheng!

224

Chief Steward Li, what's going on with His Majesty? He has called for the commode five times just this afternoon.

225

Quickly call the Imperial physician!

226

Li Yu! Li Yu!

227

The commode! The commode!

228

Is it calling for the commode or the Imperial physician?

229

Send in the commode! Wrong... Send for them both!

230

Okay...

231

- You...

- Sorry...

- Move! Move!

232

[ Imperial Medical Academy ]

233

Say, Doctor Ye, how could you complain to His Majesty about us?

234

- I didn't say anything.

- You still say you didn't.

235

His Majesty harshly scolded the Imperial physicians of the Imperial Medical Academy.

236

Saying that they are envious of other capable people, unable to bear important responsibilities.

237

He ordered me to discipline them well.

238

Tell me, if it wasn't you who told him things, who did?

239

Hey, Medical Investigator Zhang, don't falsely accuse me.

240

There are so many people coming in and out of the palace.

241

Maybe it's someone who wasn't able to control his tongue and got heard by His Majesty.

242

- I swear that I didn't tell His Majesty even a word.

- Then...

243

Forget it. Starting tomorrow, you can have a regular duty shift like other Imperial physicians.

244

- Really?

-It's true. It's more real than a pearl.

245

Thank you then, Medical Investigator Zhang.

246

Quickly come with me! His Majesty...

247

If there's any problem, say it slowly. What's going on?

248

- His Majesty is having a stomach upset. Why do you have say so much crap? Quickly come with me!

- Okay...

249

Out of nothing, why would His Majesty suddenly have abdominal pain?

250

Doctor Ye.

251

Miss Yingluo, you are so full of ideas.

252

I didn't say anything, but His Majesty was able to guess it and the matter has been settled.

253

- I came today to see you for an important matter.

- Say it then.

254

Her Highness the Empress has became healthier by following your nourishing method.

255

But during the summer, Her Highness lusts for cold things, and loves to eat cold fruits.

256

She must not. Didn't I already tell you

257

not to allow Her Highness to take in too many cold fruits? Especially cold grapes.

258

In this palace, everyone loves to drink tea.

259

Grapes help in defecating and proper bowel movement.

260

If you drink a lot of tea afterward with those two mixing together, one would have diarrhea.

261

Doctor Ye, don't worry. I followed your order and kept hindering her.

262

But Her Highness keeps saying that it's hot.

263

Is there any other method to relieve the heat?

264

Why don't I get you some tangerine peel?

265

Make a tea for Her Highness to take.

266

It nurses one's energy and stomach, and even avoids the heat. It's the best remedy.

267

- Thank you, Doctor Ye.

- You're welcome.

268

What's wrong?

269

Yangxin Palace also must have tea every day.

270

Maybe His Majesty also got afflicted by that.

271

No, I must remind Eunuch Li about it next time.

272

No, why are you laughing?

273

Did I say anything wrong?

274

Nothing! Doctor Ye, Her Highness is still waiting for me to get back.

275

Quickly hand me the tangerine peel.

276

Okay... Wait for me. I'll get it for you.

277

You're really not going to Changchun Garden Park anymore?

278

They say that when illness comes, it's like a collapsing mountain. When illness goes, it's like spinning silk.

279

After Hongzhou had this illness, he seems to have lost half his life.

280

I really am very worried. Hence, I should just stay behind and keep him company.

281

Hope Hongzhou can remember this benevolent maternal heart of yours.

282

Empress Dowager, Hongzhou already regretted his actions a lot.

283

If not because he couldn't get up from his bed, he would have entered the palace and asked for punishment.

284

His Majesty has repeatedly defended Hongzhou

285

in consideration of their sibling relationship.

286

His relationship with the Imperial relatives right now is quite strained.

287

While this scandal hasn't passed, just let Hongzhou recuperate in peace at home.

288

He shouldn't come into the palace for now.

289

Empress Dowager, Hongzhou, he...

290

His Majesty is so filial.

291

He ordered the Imperial Household Department to make an ice mirror and had it delivered here.

292

It was quite convenient.

293

If you are interested, let's go have a look.

294

Empress Dowager, I...

295

Imperial Consort Dowager Yu, His Majesty already shown extreme benevolence and utmost duty towards Hongzhou.

296

Empress Dowager, don't get mad. Don't harm your health.

297

From now on, I surely will strictly keep watch over Hongzhou.

298

I won't let him commit any more mistakes.

299

Okay already. I'm tired. You go back first.

300

I...

301

It's all that bitch's fault, causing Hongzhou to get so sick.

302

Now, even Empress Dowager has rejected us with disdain.

303

Imperial Consort Dowager, Wei Yingluo is very good at flattery.

304

She was able to amuse Her Highness the Empress to be so kind to her and even personally vouched for her words.

305

I heard that ice mirror was improved by her to earn the favor of her mistress.

306

It even became a trend here in the Forbidden City.

307

Now, all palaces have instructed the Imperial Household Department to quickly make them one.

308

She's really smart and quick-witted.

309

Bailing, let's go to Changchun Palace.

310

What Your Highness means to do is...

311

Bitch.

312

What did you say? Shoukang Palace sent a servant to call Yingluo?

313

Yes.

314

You clearly know that Imperial Consort Dowager Yu is blaming Yingluo for the incident with Prince He of the First Rank.

315

Why did you still let her go?

316

Imperial Consort Dowager Yu already gave instructions beforehand

317

that she's asking Yingluo to go there and guide the palace maids on how to use the ice mirror.

318

This request is very reasonable. How could I refuse it?

319

Your Highness, if you really go, Yingluo will then indeed be unable to return.

320

Why do you say so?

321

Imperial Consort Dowager Yu has been accompanying Empress Dowager in Shoukang Palace for so many years,

322

and is the birth mother of Prince He of the First Rank.

323

She's very respected here in the palace.

324

If you go, isn't that openly slapping her face?

325

Initially she just wanted to vent her anger.

326

She didn't want the scandal committed by Prince He of the First Rank to get exposed.

327

If you pressure her too much, she might not care about anything anymore.

328

By then, Empress Dowager will surely vent her anger on Yingluo.

329

Your Highness, Yingluo is smart and quick-witted. She surely have a plan.

330

She will come back safely.

331

I hope so.

332

There is a small hole below

333

where the melted ice water can successfully flow out.

334

Place a basin on the side. The ice water can decrease the temperature of the whole room.

335

Just to earn the favor of your mistress, you really have exerted a lot of efforts.

336

Imperial Consort Dowager Yu, I'm done explaining the use of the ice mirror.

337

I'll take my leave now.

338

Imperial Consort Dowager...

339

Imperial Consort Dowager Yu, what are you doing?

340

I instead want to ask you what's the meaning of that hand?

341

Everyone knows that you are a devout Buddhist.

342

You don't even go to the Imperial Garden during the summer

343

because you're afraid to step on an ant.

344

But who knew that behind this benevolent face of yours

345

hides a jackal-like heart.

346

Not only did you kill my sister,

347

you even want to kill me to vent your anger.

348

I only sent the gift you gave me back to its owner!

349

A bunch of rubbish. You dare slander Imperial Consort Dowager Yu!

350

Whether it's just a bunch of rubbish, only Imperial Consort Dowager Yu knows it in her heart.

351

This servant is muddled. Wake her up.

352

What are you doing?

353

Imperial Consort Dowager Yu!

354

Let me go!

355

Correct. I was indeed the one who killed your sister.

356

She wanted to seduce Hongzhou. She was a bitch!

357

She deserved to die.

358

It's Hongzhou who was a pervert!

359

You instead blamed it on my sister and even killed her.

360

It's you people who are turning the truth upside down!

361

There are so many women wanting to climb up a tree to become a phoenix. (T/N climb up the social ladder)

362

Are we going to blame the Chinese parasol tree for having high branches?

363

It's all because of baoyi bitches like you

364

who climb into a man's bed that caused Hongzhou to be in his current pitiful state.

365

Let me tell you...that I had you come today just to tell you one thing.

366

Listen well.

367

You're currently a favored servant of the Empress.

368

Also a loyal servant that attended to His Majesty when he was sick.

369

I won't openly kill you.

370

But don't forget, Wei Qingtai is currently a manager in the Imperial Household Department.

371

Just one word from me and he'll leave Forbidden City horizontally! (T/N dead, carried out)

372

From now on, you had better keep your tail between your legs.

373

Don't offend me again.

374

If you dare to offend me again,

375

not only will your head fall,

376

your whole Wei family must die with you!

377

Get lost!

378

Even if she has firm bones,

379

I will pull them off, one by one.

380

Be careful!

381

Those are top grade materials for awnings. Don't damage them.

382

Quickly go!

383

The window screen! Where are the window screens?

384

Chief Steward Wu, I've already went to the Embroidery House to rush it.

385

The embroidery maids are too busy and couldn't finish them.

386

Then do it overnight. Quickly go and rush them again.

387

Miss Yingluo.

388

- Chief Steward Wu.

- What happened to your face?

389

Excuse me, Chief Steward Wu. I'm rushing to go back to Changchun Palace.

390

Hey, Chief Steward Wu, by the way she looks, she must be aggrieved.

391

Don't they say that Imperial Consort Dowager Yu is the most benevolent mistress?

392

She also knows to make things hard on the servants?

393

When working in the palace, it's like a chicken eating fireflies.

394

Make your heart bright and your mouth tightly shut.

395

- I understand.

- Go back to work.

396

- Just a bit more.

- Indeed.

397

One more time.

398

Don't rush.

399

- You all try it.

- You do it.

400

Yingluo! You're back.

401

Yingluo.

402

- Come.

- Here.

403

What are you all playing?

404

Have you forgotten? Today is the seventh day of the seventh month, the Daughter's Day. (T/N Qixi Festival)

405

We're playing "begging for skills".

406

That's right. Placing a needle on the water.

407

If the sun can pass through its eye, the Weaver Girl will then bless you with clever hands.

408

Let me try.

409

Annoying.

410

See? Even the Weaver Girl is laughing at you for being poor at women's crafts.

411

Saying that you're a little wooden club.

412

You're the little wooden club. I'm just careless.

413

I won't tease you anymore.

414

Hey, Yingluo. You have the most clever hands among us. You give it a try.

415

That's right, Yingluo. Quickly try it!

416

It was indeed I who killed your sister.

417

She wanted to seduce Hongzhou. She's a bitch.

418

She deserved to die.

419

She even was from the Embroidery House.

420

- I think she's worse than I am.

- That's right!

421

Let me give it one more try.

422

It's fine. Give it another try.

423

Yingluo, do it slowly.

424

You surely will succeed.

425

Wei QIngtai is currently a manager of the Imperial Household Department.

426

You must know that just one word from me, he'll leave this place horizontally.

427

Your hand...keeps trembling.

428

I'm fine. Let me try it one more time.

429

Yingluo, this is just a game. We all didn't succeed.

430

- She just has to be the best at everything. She won't even let a game off.

- Mingyu.

431

Let me try again.

432

Enough... You go play by yourself.

433

We're walking, we're walking. Let's go...

434

From now on, don't offend me again.

435

You had better put your tail behind your legs.

436

If you dare offend me again,

437

not only will your head fall,

438

your whole Wei Clan must die with you!

439

She's been like this since she came back from Shoukang Palace?

440

Yes. Don't know what trauma she encountered.

441

It's just a game. It's fine to fail.

442

But she keeps practicing. It's been six or eight hours already.

443

The sun is about to set.

444

Yingluo has a strong personality. She never shows any weakness.

445

For her to be this anxious,

446

she must have encountered a huge problem.

447

How come the killer gets to escape punishment,

448

while the victim gets trampled upon?

449

They are really bullying people intolerably.

450

Yingluo!

451

Your Highness the Empress.

452

If you give too much importance on your gains and losses, how can you win?

453

Sometimes a man's determination in conquering nature is the right course.

454

If on the path you're walking

455

you encounter a huge hindrance

456

making you unable to continue forward,

457

don't just keep thinking of your goal.

458

Try calming yourself down.

459

Focus your attention and do your task well.

460

Maybe there will be a moment when the willow tree gives shade, the flower gives light.

461

Yingluo, I know that you are a very competitive person.

462

But I want you to remember

463

that not everything will go one's way.

464

As long as you're human, you will have failures.

465

Hence, you must learn to wait patiently.

466

Up to when must I wait?

467

Wait until your heart is strong enough.

468

Wait until one day, you're not anymore being restricted by anyone.

469

Wait for the right time, topography, and people connection.

470

What are you doing?

471

A fragrance pouch given by the girl you like. You don't want it?

472

This wasn't from her.

473

How did you know?

474

She's one of the best embroidery maids of the Embroidery House.

475

How could she sew an orchid into a chive?

476

No way. Her handwork is quite unique.

477

Also, it's very fragrant. You really don't want it?

478

There hasn't been anyone who gave me a fragrance pouch. I'll accept this then.

479

Hailancha! Quickly remove that.

480

Why?

481

If this fragrance pouch was really given to me by someone,

482

I can refuse her feelings,

483

but I can't give it to others.

484

That is belittling her.

485

I don't care.

486

Once it reaches my hand, there's no more return.

487

Hailancha!

488

Will Imperial Guard Fuca like it?

489

How come that fragrance pouch is with you?

490

Someone gifted it.

491

Just with your looks, who would gift you a fragrance pouch? Stop daydreaming!

492

Wow! How come you talk like that?

493

I'm tall, handsome, and fight well. It's just normal for me to have an adoring fan.

494

Who adores you? Return the fragrance pouch to me!

495

You're so unreasonable.

496

This was given to me, so it's mine. Why must I give it to you?

497

- That's a fragrance pouch that I sewed! Give it back to me!

- Don't get physical!

498

- Return it to me!

- I'm not touching you, but you got physical first.

499

Don't go overboard!

500

What's wrong?

501

My hand...

502

I have such thick skin. Hitting me would only feel like tickling for me.

503

Look at you, why must you exert so much effort? You harmed your wrist instead.

504

Why did you steal my fragrance pouch?

505

How is this stealing?

506

Fuheng didn't want it so he gave it to me. I then put it on.

507

So unreasonable. You just charged toward me and started hitting me.

508

Hey, don't cry. You mustn't cry.

509

Why are you like this? You were very fierce earlier.

510

Now, you just suddenly changed. I didn't do anything.

511

It's your bone that was too weak, so you hurt yourself.

512

The fragrance pouch! You don't want the fragrance pouch anymore?

513

Your bones are so soft. Remember to have it look at by a doctor!

514

Wei Yingluo, I clearly liked Imperial Guard Fuca first.

515

What right do you have to climb up first?

516

If you saw a piece of jewelry you liked in a jewelry store

517

but didn't reserve it and it got bought by someone else,

518

can you then go to that person's house and ask for it?

519

You're being unreasonable. He clearly is a person,

520

not an item.

521

You also know that he's a person.

522

That is he has his own likes.

523

If he likes me, what can I do?

524

If not because you were shameless and actively seduced him,

525

would he still like you?
