that I would get stage fright,

was inspired by my culture.

Every third weekend in April,
the Haliwa-Saponi Tribe

has its powwow,
which is a festival

celebrating our tribe
with dancing and singing.

Growing up,
it was super special,

and it still is very special.

So often, we are erased

from the conversation.

and the life of performing
is rough.

So I wound up making money
in accounting.

People need a bookkeeper,
always.

But over the years,
I've never lost

my passion for performing.

And to wind up here
