The Long Ballad

Episode 09

Gentleman, are you okay?

Water.

- Water? - Water.

Done.

[Governor Manor]

Stop.

You killed the Prince of Lujiang?

I’ve killed the Prince of Lujiang, Li Yuan,

for betrayal and causing turbulence.

How could you kill your own master to save yourself?

Junkuo is Prince of Lujiang’s subordinate,

so followed his order of betrayal.

But this is against my will.

Now I’ve killed the traitor in person.

I hope...

I hope I could redeem myself.

Where is Shuyu?

Envoy Wei

was hurt by the subordinates of the Prince of Lujiang.

I asked someone to take good care of him.

You...

Now he is receiving treatment in the room.

Envoy Wei?

General Shen.

I’ve got a contribution to our court.

Do you know the identity of the person who’s just left?

She’s the daughter of the traitor Li Jiancheng.

- Take control of Wang Junkuo! - Yes.

Shen Gu!

You...

The Prince of Lujiang rose in rebellion, now arrest all of his men for investigation.

Shen Gu,

I did this for you out of kindness. I can’t believe you’re this ungrateful.

Shut his mouth!

I won’t let you go!

Changge, why are you here?

Luckily you are okay.

Leyan is waiting for you in the post house.

I didn’t know why

but Wang Junkuo suddenly let me go

and found a doctor for me.

Hao Du lighted the beacon.

Meanwhile, in your name, and asked the general at the defense station outside the city for help.

Wang Jun Kuo knew that he is at a disadvantage, so he killed his master to save himself.

What?

I’ve done all I should.

Take good care of Leyan.

Promise me you’ll send her back safely.

Changge.

As long as you’re holding Crown Prince’s seal, Hao Du would...

It doesn’t belong to Li Shimin anyway.

I just took something that belongs to me.

Master, how was it?

Go.

Remember to be careful!

Yes!

[Governor Manor]

[Heaven to Protect the Township]

According to the command as the aide of the Crown Prince,

I’m here to capture the betrayers.

I’m the general of the city wall of Youzhou,

Shen Gu.

Envoy Wei has already reported.

We are dealing with the aftermath.

Envoy Wei?

If Envoy Wei didn’t arrive in time,

I can’t even imagine the consequences.

But sadly,

Prince of Lujiang has been killed by Wang Junkuo.

The best statement was vanished.

[Governor Manor]

[Pure Sand Teaches Silent]

Master,

the one who wants to capture you from the court comes again.

Come here, all of you.

Wait a minute.

What are you going to do with Wang Junkuo?

Please allow me to report to our court and follow the instruction.

In case of any accident,

I’ve locked him up in my camp.

Wang Junkuo is quite shrewd with many subordinates.

We must stop him from escaping.

Thank you, General.

[Pure Sand Teaches Silent]

Who are you?

Why are you arresting me?

Why is it a kid?

Who are you?

Why do you push me?

I’m a great benefactor!

I brought help from the camp during the night.

Don’t forget to tell this to the court.

I’m waiting for the reward!

I led the rest of the rebels and eliminated the rebellion in Youzhou!

Search!

Yes!

Go.

Where is Changge?

You’re asking me?

No.

I need to chase her back.

- She still keeps the seal. - Good, you know that!

If it can’t be found,

neither of us can go back to Chang’an.

Stand up now!

Catch her back with me!

Is it okay that your friend is still in the city?

I’ve confirmed with him

that I’ll make marks along my way.

He will find me once he gets rid of the danger.

Thank you, General Shen, for saving my life.

I can’t accept your salut, Princess.

How do you know?

The temperament brought up among the palace from the childhood

is hard to simulated by others.

Rumors have it that Princess Yongning is still missing.

Besides, I was the subordinate of the crown prince.

How can I fail to recognize you?

Just now, Wang Junkuo wanted to expose your identity,

which further proved my speculation.

Therefore, why don’t you go with me?

Now the entire Youzhou has been under Li Shimin’s control.

He will never let go of my father’s old fellows like you.

You should leave with me for the next plan instead of waiting for the consequences.

I’m a soldier, so I can’t take action before the command.

General Shen,

Youzhou is totally controlled by Du Ruhui.

We can’t get even a corner of Youzhou back.

Are you waiting for death here?

What’s more, I’ve got the Crown Prince’s seal.

Do you really think that an item can call up the army?

I’m helping you as payback to the crown prince

for his recognition of my capability.

This is my private thought.

Before I was the crown prince’s previous subordinate,

I’m a general of the Great Tang.

Now the Ashile Tribe Army is ready to move to the north.

Youzhou is a crucial town in the north with millions of people.

My duty is keeping the land of Youzhou safe and sound.

If you can’t understand this, Princess,

whatever you’ve got is useless.

Although I disagree with your words,

everyone has their own ambitions.

I’ve learned something anyway.

Princess, quickly go!

Or else, their army will catch up to us,

I can’t protect you at that time!

I can’t stay in Youzhou anymore.

Can’t believe that I have nowhere to stay in such a big world.

Toward northwest.

Go to Shuozhou.

It’s a separate place between Great Tang and the grasslands.

It’s beyond the court’s control.

Thank you, General Shen.

Princess, take care of yourself.

I shall bid you farewell.

Go!

Go.

Run!

Stop!

Young Khan, enough!

The horses will die of tiredness if you keep riding it.

Did you say the bastard has gone?

Why did he come back again?

I can’t let it go so easily.

I’ve observed

that there is no track of any army.

He came and went back by himself!

Young Khan, what are you going to do?

He dared bite me.

Why can’t I bite him?

You should report to Great Khan in his tent immediately.

If you spend too much time on your way back,

Great Khan would possibly suspect you.

Stop telling me what I should do and what shouldn’t.

Do you think you are my father?

I don’t care if Great Khan will suspect me.

Can I suffer this injustice in silence?

Great Khan led his army toward Shuozhou.

Eagle Division should be in the north of Shuozhou.

This way.

We’re able to speculate that he chose this route.

Ashile Sun may also know it himself.

Right.

Is it possible for them to go toward south?

Since you’ve thought of it, how could him fail to realize?

That bastard is always quite tricky.

He keeps manipulating me,

so he must know I can figure out he wanted to go this way.

But he has to complete Great Khan’s command.

If he went in this way,

his task will be delayed.

He usually completes Great Khan’s command at all cost,

so he must have gone towards the north.

Besides, I think he must choose the main road deliberately.

If so we should go to the main road to stop him.

We need to be fast.

Stop him in the pathway.

Why?

Because I think if I can figure out his choice of main road,

he can definitely think of my speculation.

I bet this time he can think of it as well.

Go!

Go!

Go!

Go!

General Shen, do you want to shield the criminal of the court?

Criminal?

Who is it?

The traitor Wang Junkuo

has been locked in our prison.

But you two...

In this turbulent place,

I can’t believe you only by the Fish Token.

Currently, the rebellion in Youzhou hasn’t been pacified.

No spy is allowed to escape out of the city.

It seems that you won’t let us go today.

Yes, so what?

It is impossible for both of us to break through by General Shen’s solid guard.

One of us has to make sacrifice.

My martial skills are better than yours.

You leave first.

Be careful!

Go!

Move!

Go!

Go!

Go!

Go!

I knew that the Wolf Division can’t find you.

But when you thought you were safe,

you must show up.

How about my strategy?

Not bad.

Combative loser.

Admirable courage.

Go.

Anyone allowed you to slash him?

My duty is protecting you instead of putting you in danger.

I...

The key point of ambush is targeting in the first attack.

Now the prey is alerted and not easy to be caught.

Let’s go.

We have to go back for reporting.

Go.

Stop.

You should keep chasing him.

We can’t let go of him so easily.

Go!

Run.

Go!

Changge.

Give it up!

Didn’t you learn the lesson from the Youzhou’s matter?

How long are you going to escape?

Changge.

I, Wei Shuyu, swear to the heavens

that I’ll definitely save your life at all cost.

Even though the consequence can’t be reversed,

I’ll die together with you.

No matter the earth or the netherworld, I will be with you.

I will no longer trust anyone.

And I won’t stay for anyone.

But you still keep the Crown Prince’s seal.

They won’t give up chasing you before they get it back.

Envoy Wei’s flattery

is just for getting the Crown Prince’s seal back,

so that you can complete your task.

Changge.

Wei Shuyu.

Listen carefully.

From today on,

we have severed our ties and no more than strangers.

Considering our acquaintance,

I’d give you another merit to report.

This is nothing but an item.

People won’t follow its direction.

From now on, I will make my own plan from now on.

Shen Gu, you hid the criminal of the court secretly.

When I’m back to Chang’an,

I will report it to the Crown Prince.

I bet he’ll punish you by the military law!

Young Master, don’t be angry.

General Shen said

that you have been proven not to be the spy after verification.

He asked me to apologize to you.

By the way,

someone called Envoy Wei is outside.

Young Master, this way please.

Please.

You let Li Changge run away again?

The Crown Prince’s seal is here.

We can go back to Chang’an for reporting.

[Crown Prince’s Seal]

I want both the Crown Prince’s seal

and Li Changge.

Wei Shuyu.

Where are you going?

Princess is still waiting in the post house.

Good girl,

what’s your name?

Who on earth are you?

If my friend can’t see me when he is back,

he’d come and look for me.

At that time,

you will get into trouble.

Great, let them find me.

Girl,

people should learn what is contentment,

or else they may lose their lives.

I’m asking again,

what’s your name?

Tell him.

I’m Leyan.

Good, you are clever.

Just call me Elder Hai.

You should behave nice from now on.

I will sell you to a nice family with a high price.

If you are indocile,

you will be sold to someone who might take your limbs.

I was kidnapped, too.

Those two are human traders.

Human... traders?

Someone who’d kidnap women and kids for sale.

Sale?

Where would them be sold?

Why someone would take our limbs?

They will cut down people’s arms and legs and make them to beg.

Leyan,

we can survive only by helping each other in this condition.

Got it?

Go!

Go!

Leyan.

Leyan?

Where is the Princess?

Where is the guest who lived in this room?

I... I don’t know.

This room is alway quiet.

Everything valuable has been lost.

But there is no mark of fighting in the room.

Her Highness wouldn’t have left by herself.

The sole possibility is that she was beaten and kidnapped.

Wei Shuyu? Wei Shuyu!

You should pack up as soon as possible.

Go back to Chang’an,

report the intelligence in Youzhou

and the news that Her Highness has disappeared.

No.

I have to find Leyan back.

I remind you for the last time,

now your task is sending the intelligence back to Chang’an.

Leyan has disappeared,

why are we still talking about the task now?

She knows little about Youzhou,

and it’s near the border battle field in the north.

Leyan is royal, innocent and weak.

Now she’s left outside the palace.

Our most important task is finding her back.

Shut up, Wei Shuyu!

Tell me!

Who should be blamed for the disappearance of the Princess?

Who let her go with us?

Who promised confidently

that he’d be fully responsible for the Princess’s safety.

Right, I said I would hold the responsibility,

so I must completely fulfill my promise.

Just report to His Highness,

I will cost my life to find Her Highness back.

If she’s got any injury,

I’ll pay for it with my life.

Wei Shuyu.

Remember what’s your purpose of coming to Youzhou.

What’s more important,

finding her by yourself

or His Highness sending troops to search, which way is faster?

The mark left by my master!

Your Highness.

The smoke signal has been extinguished.

Youzhou has been pacified.

Envoy Wei is on his way back to the capital.

That’s perfect.

Your Highness,

there are many Li Jiancheng’s old subordinates

in the areas like Hebei and Shandong.

If we indulge them guarding in their current position,

that equals to asking for troubles and destruction.

If so, the story of Youzhou will be followed in those places sooner or later.

What do you mean?

The generals were commanded to be there for defending Hebei

from the pirates of the grasslands.

Do you want to withdraw all the military power from them?

Advisor Wei, if you have any better method,

I’m very glad to hear it.

Remember?

The envoy who went to Youzhou is from the Wei family.

The Prince of Lujiang hasn’t come back with him,

What’s worse is that he rebelled.

What a talent Young Master Wei is?

Your Highness, I didn’t teach my son well.

I beg for your forgiveness.

When he comes back,

except for the punishment from the government,

I will punish him with my family’s rule.

But the news of Youzhou

influences the overall situation of our country.

I strongly suggest

not suppress the general

in case of causing the anxiety among our people.

I’ve defended Hebei with Jiancheng,

and now I’m willing to go again to appease Li Jiancheng,

and Li Yuanji’s former subordinates.

Mr. Wei.

Your Highness, if you believe me,

I will set off tomorrow to the north.

Your Highness,

I hope you can convince the people by benevolence.

Okay.

I will authorize you the full right to complete the task in Hebei.

This trip is long and complicated,

you can take action as you like.

No need to ask for approval.

Thanks, Your Highness.

If he refuses to come back,

I will execute him for our nation no matter where he is.

Duke Du, you are just reluctant to admit.

You deliberately mentioned the execution of the generals and his son,

forcing him to propose going to the north for His Highness.

Yes, I did, so what?

Poor Wei Zheng,

look how naive he is.

He thought if he had not pay any effort,

you would definitely apply for the punishment to the general.

How could you not ride the horse you’ve got with great effort

but keep it in the stable as a pet?

It sounds reasonable.

Why do I always see you in the firewood house or shabby room?

Why are you here?

I should ask you this question.

Not anyone is as wealthy as you, Boss.

How did you get hurt?

What are you doing?

Bandaging the wound.

Quickly!

Ask whatever you want.

It seems you’re eager to know.

How did you get hurt?

Where are the horses from?

Cut the excuses about the horses,

you want to know about me, right?

Right.

Yes, I live in the Ashile Tribe of the grasslands.

I won’t deny this.

Since you know Young Khan of the Ashile Tribe,

were you involved in his plan

of stealing the Youzhou vault together with Wang Junkuo?

The only thing I can tell you is

that I was hurt by the people of Young Khan.

You could stop the carriage of the warehouse

because I secretly broke it in advance.

It’s really you that did it!

Who on earth are you?

A’Zhun.

Since you don’t want to tell me,

I won’t keep asking any more.

I just take you as an unscrupulous merchant.

But seeing you die without doing any favor is not my style.

Where are you going after leaving Youzhou?

Can’t tell you.

There are only two roads to go from here,

one is to Shuozhou,

another is to the grassland.

You won’t go to the grassland, will you?

Don’t go to Shuozhou.

Why?

That’s the border area close to the grasslands while far from Great Tang.

Besides, these years,

the war never stops there.

You should take good care of yourself first.

I’m serious.

You should leave.

It’s not safe here.

If anyone asks, just say you’ve never seen me.

Is it okay for you to be alone?

Don’t worry, it’s not likely for me to die easily.

Wait.

Don’t live in such a shabby place next time.

Sympathy is not my thing.

I’m lending it to you.

I’ll wait for you to return it later.

Thank you, Boss.

Until we meet again,

Young Master Shisi.

No,

Princess Yongning.

It’s fine to get it back.

Grant Hao Du and Envoy Wei abundant rewards.

Thanks, Your Highness.

According to Changge’s character,

she won’t hand it over so easily.

Is Changge okay?

Princess Yongning handed it over and ran away successfully.

Fine. Don’t cause any more trouble.

Just wind up the case about Yongning.

I have another thing to report.

Another about Changge?

It’s about Princess Yongan.

What’s wrong with Leyan?

Princess Yongan

went to Youzhou with the army

but an accident occurs in Youzhou.

Young Master Wei was locked by Wang Junkuo.

Hao Du went to rescue him

while Princess Yongan waited in the post house.

However, after the battle ended and they went back,

Princess Yongan disappeared.

Your Highness,

I’ve asked people nearby to search her whereabouts.

Young Master Wei has requested to go look for Princess Yongan because of his guilt.

Do you think it is necessary

to call him back for condemnation?

Forget it,

just believe that he will try his best to find Yan’er back.

Announce that Princess Yongan has gotten a strange disease,

so she’s still taking the treatment in Luoyang.

No information is allowed to be leaked.

Please be assured, Your Highness, I must arrange it well.

Keming.

You may leave now.

Leave me alone.

I’ll take my leave.

Leyan, you dropped your food.

Pick it up.

I’ll eat it if you don’t.

Slow down.

I won’t grab it from you.

You are so nice to me.

We are good friends from now on.

Let’s share the happiness.

Sister Leyan, I’m thirsty.

Let me drink your water.

Elder Hai, can you give me some more water?

I’ve provided you with food and drink for today

but you didn’t want it.

It’s not my fault.

[Elegant Heavenly Devotion]

Fang Yi.

Your Highness.

Do you have any information about Leyan?

I’ve arranged more people

to search Her Highness in each county and prefecture.

But there is no news so far.

Yan’er,

you are mild and weak.

As your father, I’m quite worried about you

staying outside the palace alone.

Water.

Water.

Leyan.

Water.

Leyan.

Brother Shuyu.

Brother Shuyu, you’re here to rescue me!

Don’t smudge my carriage if you want to seek death.

Who’s Brother Shuyu?

How about seizing your Brother Shuyu here to be your companion?

No.

I beg you, don’t do harm to Brother Shuyu.

You’ve been lost for several days.

Your Brother Shuyu didn’t come to rescue you.

Did he find a new lover?

How much do you want?

I can give you as much as you want.

Just release me.

The lady from a wealthy family is less likely to be released.

If I let you go,

that means I’m asking them to capture me.

No.

They won’t, I promise.

They won’t.

Elder Hai, I’m begging you.

Please let me go.

It’s time for me to rest.

If you keep making noises,

I’d cut your tongue.

Shu...

Shu...

Nice.

You’ve become wiser.

Stop.

Leyan,

where are you?

[Shuozhou]

Sachets!

Sachets!

They are playing balls.

Buy one for your kid.

Catch it!

Shuozhou is located in an isolated border area

and has suffered years of war.

How could it be prosperous like this?

I’m Gongsun Heng from Shuozhou.

You bandits, surrender now!

Gongsun Heng?

No.

Please, just some food.

Drink it.

Thank you.

Thanks.

Take it.

Even in the most bustling city, Chang’an...

Thank you so much.
