The Long Ballad

Episode 7

I didn’t come here to seek protection

but to help you.

What do you mean?

Now, Li Shimin is currently surrounded by enemies.

He’ll surely scatter the troops to guard for safety.

Youzhou Army can also split up into two groups and take them by surprise.

One in the south of Linpu Town and Jiangzhou,

the other goes west into Tongguan County.

When the time comes, the two troops can join forces.

Within a month,

we’ll win the war.

Princess, you mean...

Princess is extraordinary indeed.

There are indeed no cowards in the Li family.

Princess.

You’re from the capital.

How’s the situation of His Majesty

and did Crown Prince have other commands?

I came here for this.

Before Father died, he gave me the imperial edict.

Listen to my order, Prince of Lujiang, Li Yuan.

“Now Prince Qin Li Shimin has committed treason and rose up in rebellion...”

“terrorizing the capital and endangering the nation.”

“Youzhou’s governor, Prince of Lujiang, Li Yuan, must lead troops to the capital and kill the traitor...”

“to help the nation and make things right.”

“Carry out this decree upon receipt.”

I, Li Yuan, shall obey the edict.

Your edict saved us from the emergency in Youzhou.

In rushing to prepare supplies for the troops,

we were afraid that after mobilizing them, we couldn’t sustain them.

With this imperial edict,

I believe Crown Prince’s former subordinates will help us.

Governor, the envoy from Chang’an is here.

He is waiting for you at the lobby.

Li Shimin’s envoy is here so soon.

Uncle, in my point of view,

you’d better not meet this envoy.

Princess, don’t worry.

Now the plan is settled,

and we have this edict,

we’ll surely live up to Crown Prince’s expectation.

Since the traitor’s envoy came here himself,

why don’t we take this opportunity to capture him and show our desire to fight him?

[Share Weal and Woe]

By the order of Crown Prince Jiancheng’s edict,

capture the traitor.

Wang Junkuo, you’re passing on a fake decree.

How should you be punished?

Kill him now.

Kill him!

Wait.

Wei Shuyu.

Changge.

Changge, why are you here?

How dare you ask me this?

Let me explain.

You have nothing to explain!

If you surrender now,

I can spare your life.

Changge, are you crazy?

Do you know what you are doing now?

You are helping them plot a rebellion.

That’s because I’m not lucky as you are.

You can find another master and work for him.

Now,

I’m the prey and they’re the predator.

Do you want me to witness Youzhou to be another Eastern Palace?

Changge, listen to me.

The Crown Prince is kind.

He asked me to be the envoy to Youzhou.

His purpose is to set Prince of Lujiang at ease.

There’s misunderstanding between us.

Misunderstanding?

Enough nonsense.

Arrest him!

Put the sword down.

I’ll repeat it again.

Put the sword down, and I won’t kill you.

Princess.

What we discussed today requires human sacrifice.

General Wang.

Do you know Crown Prince’s advisor, Wei Zheng?

Wei Zheng is a great assistant of Eastern Palace.

He is the son of Wei Zheng.

If we kill him,

I’m afraid that the East Palace officials would feel disappointed.

I’ve heard Advisor Wei is loyal to Crown Prince.

I didn’t imagine he has such a coward son.

You traitor.

How dare you talk about my father?

You...

Envoy, you’re mistaken in believing Prince of Qin.

Everyone can see my loyalty to Great Tang.

It’s Prince Jiancheng’s last wish.

We’ll kill the traitor as the edict says.

Changge.

Guards! Take him to the dungeon and keep on eye on him.

Changge, you!

Go!

Go. Hurry up!

Yongning.

Although we arrested the envoy,

people in Chang’an will doubt if he stays here for too long.

Besides, if anyone knows you’re in Youzhou,

it’ll bad for our future plan.

In my point of view,

what about staying in my manor and recuperate for a few days?

It’s okay, Uncle. I have a place to stay.

I’ll see you first thing tomorrow morning.

You just arrived and are not familiar with this place.

Besides, if the spies in Youzhou find you, it’ll be a trouble.

How about this?

I can ask a team to protect you secretly, okay?

Uncle,

since I can come here from Chang’an alone,

I can take care of myself.

Goodbye.

Junkuo.

I saw the envoy from Chang’an has entered the manor.

Why hasn’t Young Master Shisi been caught?

She’s wounded. It’s a bit fishy for her to be wounded now.

Let’s go.

That way.

Why are the people from the Governor Manor following Young Master Shisi?

It’s becoming more and more interesting.

Young Master Shisi,

who are you?

[Crown Prince’s Seal]

Governor.

[Crown Prince’s Seal]

Governor,

is there anything wrong with this edict?

Go out of town now.

Find the thatched cottage and tie a white towel.

Remember, don’t let anyone see you.

Wait for the distinguished guest from north to contact you.

Yes!

Master, you’re back.

Master, why are you hurt?

Master.

Master.

Why are you hurt so badly?

It’s okay.

A’Dou.

Someone was following me.

Master.

Who was following you?

I don’t know.

I think they might be Uncle’s people.

But I can’t do things with my instinct now.

Because we can only depend on Uncle now.

Master, I’m also with you.

She knows Art of War

and is good at strategy.

If I don’t need to fill out my name, I won’t come out.

How about this?

Caravans have a lot of carriages and goods.

They won’t search everything.

Just give me a place to hide.

She’s not afraid of death.

I can’t believe such an amazing woman exists in this world.

Wei Shuyu.

You are really a good friend of Princess.

You knew she would pass here.

Who is it?

What’s wrong?

You cried?

No.

Men can cry as well.

Don’t be embarrassed.

I seldom cried when I was young.

I bleed, but I don’t cry.

Stop acting tough.

Everyone gets upset.

If there’s nothing wrong,

I shall go back to sleep.

I’m feeling down.

Can you go for a walk with me?

Now?

It has already passed curfew now.

Strange.

You’re afraid of a curfew.

Where are we going?

What?

Don’t you trust me?

I’m afraid you don’t have that ability.

Why did you take me here?

This place is far from troubles,

and is close to the moon.

Instead of being close to the moon,

I think I’m closer to a troublesome man like you.

Is that a bad thing?

It’s getting colder.

What?

You want me to give you my coat?

Are you feeling better?

Much better.

So what happened?

Let me think.

What can make a man like you be so sad?

I guess you failed in today’s marriage proposal.

And your wife ran away with someone else.

Nonsense.

I just met an old friend.

No.

We’re not friends anymore.

Friend?

What kind of friend?

Why aren’t you friends anymore?

We grew up together.

We studied together.

I thought our friendship would be like this forever.

But later...

Later on, perhaps you’ll reconcile.

Impossible.

Maybe in the future,

I won’t have a friend like him anymore.

It’s natural.

Natural?

Someone told me,

some people are soft like water and they tolerate everything.

But some people are like fire.

They’ll only burn more and more.

Those who go near him will get burned.

If we force ourselves to be with them,

we’ll only turn into ashes.

Who told you this?

Your friend?

It’s my...

It’s my foster-father.

After he told me this,

I broke up with my best friend.

And we became enemies forever.

Maybe I’m like the blazing fire.

Well,

will we be friends?

Aren’t we friends now?

A’Zhun.

Thank you.

You don’t need to thank me.

You took me here at night,

and enlightened me in a roundabout way.

I should thank you.

Young Master Shisi.

You can’t stay here for long.

Leave here soon.

Why do you say so?

Did you hear any news?

Something is happening in the Youzhou Army.

And Chang’an is also in turmoil.

This is a key position.

I’m afraid this place will be involved soon.

A’Zhun.

You think I can’t protect myself?

I...

Thank you for caring me.

Since you know Youzhou is in a state of emergency,

after you settled your business,

just leave here soon.

Okay.

Just go back.

It’s about dawn.

I miss my father.

When can we go back to Chang’an?

Have some rest, Princess.

I shall leave.

Don’t go.

I don’t want to rest.

You can just stay here.

Why don’t you say something?

You asked me to stay here,

I’ll just stay here.

It’s funny to see you talk seriously.

It’s getting dark.

It’s not proper for a man and woman stay in the same room together.

- I shall leave. - Don’t go.

You didn’t obey my order again?

See?

This is the rabbit I embroidered.

The rabbits others embroidered have red eyes.

But my rabbit has green eyes.

Because there’s a grassland in its eyes.

That’s freedom.

And I want freedom.

Why are you so impolite?

Have you always been cold to others?

You’re so cold to your foster-father as well?

I never saw you smile.

Can you smile?

Hao Du.

I’m talking to you.

Are you deaf?

I’m so pathetic.

Now we can’t find Changge.

I was asked to make peace with other regime by marriage.

Now I was taken to this strange place by you.

No one can talk with me.

I’ve never slept alone.

I miss my father.

I want to go home.

What are you doing?

You...

Put me down.

Put me down!

Hao Du!

Have some rest, Princess.

I’ll sit here and won’t leave.

Young Master Shisi.

Rest early.

You too.

Tegin.

Why are you here?

I’ve been waiting for you the whole night.

You didn’t come back,

so I came out to take a look.

What?

Have a date with that Eastern Palace guy?

Enough joking.

Wang Junkuo sent a surrender letter to us.

Go back.

I have something to do.

Well, that guy went back to his room, you...

How long do you want to hide?

Come out.

When did you arrive?

Today.

He’s here?

Take me there.

[The Beauty Brothel]

Sir, you haven’t been here for a long time.

Let’s have a drink in the room.

Let me kiss you.

Young Khan.

He’s here.

Sir, is it comfortable?

Why are you here?

What do you think I’m here for?

Do you want to have fun?

You never had a woman by your side before.

If you don’t like women,

it’s boring to just watch me here.

I hate your domineering attitude since I was little.

Get out.

Why are you here?

We’re here for the same reason.

How do you know where I live?

It’s your old habit.

You won’t live too far or too close to the Governor Manor.

You won’t live in a luxurious place.

There are few places left.

Finally, you’re smart.

I can also ask you to leave.

[To my son Ashina Sun, I hope you settle matters in Youzhou and go to Shuozhou]

Father Khan wants me to go to Shuozhou.

Father Khan will start the war?

Just be a good dog.

Don’t ask things you don’t need to know.

Remember,

you go, leave the horses.

You know a lot of things.

We grew up together.

You can’t hide this from me.

The horses are mine.

But you agreed on the conditions.

Then I should finish it.

You’re not qualified to do so now.

Eagle Division, Tegin Sun will obey Great Khan’s order.

Youzhou’s surrender letter.

It’s for Father Khan.

You didn’t open it?

It’s just a dog wagging its tail. There’s nothing to read.

It looks good when you do it.

For all these years,

you’re still the most ugly dog.

All you do is steal bones that others are already chewing.

You don’t understand.

It’s more fun to steal someone else’s.

Stealing yours is even more fun.

Wang Junkuo is becoming more and more interesting.

I want to see if he really has that ability.

Master.

You’ve been pacing around here all morning.

You can’t totally trust your uncle?

I don’t know.

After I was betrayed by the person I trusted most,

I became guarded against people.

But we have no other choice now.

Except staying in the Governor Manor and depending on his power,

we have no way out.

But we can’t let anyone see this.

Otherwise,

If there’s something wrong with Uncle’s plan,

the consequence would be serious.

Master,

let’s not live in the Governor Manor for now.

I think this wood shed is good.

Even if we don’t live in the Governor Manor,

Uncle will know where we live sooner or later.

We can’t let anyone find this.

Master.

How about giving this to me?

We can live separately.

After you totally trust your uncle,

I can give this back to you.

Master, you don’t trust me?

Of course I trust you.

But,

I feel anxious and suspicious about everything.

I think it’s right to be cautious at a time like this.

We can’t put all eggs in one basket.

You’re smart now.

Okay.

You can keep this for me.

Remember, don’t let anyone find it.

Keep it always with you.

No problem, Master.

This thing will be with me from now on.

I’d rather bleed than lose this.

I’ll go to the Governor Manor.

You can stay here.

Sir, these are customer’s horses.

If you take them away, how could I explain?

You want to die?

Sir.

These are the customers’ horses.

Sir.

You can’t take them away.

If you do so,

how could I explain?

Sir.

Sir.

What’s wrong?

What happened?

I don’t know.

These are the customers’ horses.

He went out in the morning.

If he comes back and finds it out, he...

Wait.

These are not your horses.

Now they’re ours.

Why should I trust that?

We don’t need you to trust it.

These are our carriages and horses.

Or,

why would he run away secretly?

Don’t waste our time.

Go away!

What happened to A’Zhun?

Forget it.

I’ll find Uncle first.

Wait for my order at any time.

I’ve arranged things over there.

Remember, when I get the goods,

I’ll release the flare,

then take action immediately.

Yes.

Go.

Go!

Go!

Stop.

Tegin.

Say it.

She’er will trade horses with Wang Junkuo at the thatched cottage today.

Besides,

it is said She’er forced Wang Junkuo

to give the Crown Prince’s seal in two days.

Crown Prince’s seal?

What happened?

Youzhou’s surrender letter.

It’s for Father Khan.

You didn’t open it?

Yaro.

Did you read Wang Junkuo’s surrender letter?

How dare I read it?

I was careless.

I underestimated Wang Junkuo.

Crown Prince’s seal?

[Governor Manor]

No wonder she ran away.

Tegin, what are you doing?

Go back.

I need to figure out something.

But Youzhou’s matters have nothing to do with us.

There’s someone who has something to do with me there.

You can leave first, don’t wait for me. Go!

General Wang is so punctual.

Why are you here, Young Khan?

Ashile Tribe is interesting.

I meet different people each time.

People don’t do business like this, right?

You only need to know,

I’m the man in charge now.

After all, I’m the Young Khan in the Ashile Tribe.

And I’m the person Yanli Khan trusts most.

Cooperating with me is the best choice for you.

I don’t care what happened in Ashile Tribe

and who will trade with me,

I only care about the goods.

You bring nothing with you,

how could I trust you?

I’m taking care of the precious goods.

If I bring those with me,

some people will try to steal them.

General Wang,

we can check the goods first.

After we had a deal,

I’ll give you the horses.

This is the person at the inn

who stole A’Zhun’s horse.

Why is A’Zhun related to Ashile Tribe?

It’s the horse I want.

He’s here to trade with Wang Junkuo.

Can you give the goods today?

Why are you in such a hurry?

With these horses,

I’ll become even stronger.

And I’ll kill Li Yuan today.

Then I’ll control Youzhou.

General Wang,

I can give you the goods you want at any time.

But you didn’t give me the thing I want.

You should give me some pledge.

I’ll give you the thing you want soon.

Say it.

I want the key to Youzhou vault,

in case you betray me.

Also, your command token,

in case there’s any trouble.

Okay.

Then Yanli Khan and I will be waiting for your good news.

Wang Junkuo wants to sell Youzhou to Yanli Khan.

Impossible.

I’ll save my uncle.

Stop.

Go! Go!

Go!

Go! Go!

Go! Go!

Go! Go!

Yongning.

Why are you here in a hurry?

Uncle.

Wang Junkuo has betrayed you

and is cooperating with Ashile Tribe now.

And he wants to control Youzhou and kill you.

Yongning, you’re not aware.

The reason why Junkuo is promoted to General

is his merits on fighting against Ashile Tribe.

You said he wants to kill me?

That’s more ridiculous.

We’re friends for long and we’re relatives.

You think too much.

Impossible.

I heard this in person.

Uncle, leave with me now.

If he comes here in advance,

we can’t leave here.

Let’s go.

You!

You can’t escape now.

Princess Yongning.

I underestimated you.

Wang Junkuo.

This place is the Governor Manor.

How dare you do it here!

Back off, all of you!

How can you command the Youzhou Army?

You can be companions on the way to hell.

Kill them!

Go.

Chase them!

Yongning, what can we do now?

Wang Junkuo has occupied the Governor Manor.

I...

I have no place to stay.

It’s okay, Uncle.

As long as we are not caught, we can still think of a solution.

What about going to my place?

Okay.

Okay.

[Qingxiang Inn]

Yongning.

What’s this place?

It’s where I’m staying.

Where is he?

He?

Who is it?

Did you give something to your friend?

I didn’t say I was looking for something, Uncle.

Yongning.

Since we’re escaping,

we need to take something precious.

Think about where your friend is now.

A’Dou.

Don’t come back now.

Yongning, we don’t have time now.

If Wang Junkuo is here,

we’ll be in trouble.

We went out from the back door in the alley.

Wang Junkuo couldn’t have followed us.

Could it be,

that you had an agreement in advance?

It feels sick to eat too much.

My legs are numb.

Master is back.

Your master is trapped. I’m here to help you.

Yongning.

If I didn’t use this battered-body trick,

how could you save me?

To be honest,

I’m moved by what you’ve done recently.

Why?

Young Khan asked me to give him the Crown Prince’s seal in two days.

If the situation is not urgent,

I won’t do so.

Those tribe people want the Crown Prince’s seal.

And they want us to give them in two days.

It seems they want to use it to start a war.

But, Governor,

I think Yongning is troublesome as well.

It seems like we must put on an act.

Please tell me how.

When I get the goods,

I’ll release the flare,

then take action immediately.

Yes.

With these horses,

I’ll become even stronger.

And I’ll kill Li Yuan today.

Then I’ll control Youzhou.

Yongning.

If you don’t believe me,

how could I know where the Crown Prince’s seal is?

How do you know I have that?

I tested the imperial edict.

High-class ink is used in Chang’an.

But the inferior ink you used melted after I poured water on it.
