"The Twin Flower Legend"

"Episode 7"

Thank you, Your Highness.

I shall excuse myself.

You have spies in the unlikeliest places.

We are always...

the first to know...

the emperor's moves.

So what if I know?

I'll only feel more and more of...

His Majesty's coldness.

I can't believe Empress Lian made His Majesty order for...

marriage between the royal family and Yuan family...

in order to strengthen both her position...

and Xuan Fu Che's.

And I can't believe...

His Majesty agreed.

Poor thing.

My poor son, Fu Yu.

Do not be too sad, Your Highness.

His Majesty is coming over for a meal, isn't he?

You could take the opportunity to test him...

and influence him.

Perhaps, there is...

a chance to change the situation.

Your Highness.

Your Highness.

Is the emperor arriving soon?

Servants.

Tell the Imperial Kitchen to get ready to serve the dishes.

Your Highness.

His Majesty said...

he has a discussion with the empress tonight.

So he's not coming anymore.

Thank you.

Yes.

Get out, all of you!

I spent so much time...

preparing for this meal.

I even picked a menu for His Majesty personally.

I can't believe he could bring himself to...

wasted my effort like this.

Brother.

What should I do?

My dear sister.

You don't have to be too sad.

Because I'm also here to...

congratulate you.

Congratulate me?

As you know,

the Martial Examination...

is around the corner.

That's an event to select a new general for the court.

It's held once in every 5 years.

This is the perfect opportunity for us...

to win the emperor's favour.

It's just a Martial Examination.

The one in charge...

is still Yuan Qing Jiang.

How is this a good news?

You don't understand,

my sister.

The world is like a game of chess.

You can't just look at the surface.

Of all court officials,

Yuan Qing Jiang is the only one who rivals us.

Yuan family has a special relationship with Lian family...

and now, the princess is marrying into their family.

So, if we can obtain...

the authority to organise the Martial Examination...

and get ahead of Yuan Qing Jiang,

we'll naturally beat...

Empress Lian as well.

Your Highness, what we lack...

is just an opportunity to prove ourselves.

The winning warrior will become an important general to the court...

and the emperor will grant him military power.

Therefore, if we can gain control over this,

on top of building a reputation,

we can recruit talents for the court.

This is the best opportunity...

to win the emperor's favour.

But it won't easy to...

snatch the authority from Yuan Qing Jiang.

Prime Minister Dou.

They have their ways...

and we have ours.

Spare Jin Xiu and beat me instead.

Sister.

Please don't oust my sister.

Beat me instead.

Please spare Jin Xiu.

No! Beat me! Beat me hard!

Mu Jin. Jin Xiu.

No matter what happens in the future,

you must love and protect each other.

You must live on.

Miss Yuan.

I brought your bird's nest and wolfberry soup.

Leave it here.

You're not needed here.

You may leave.

Yes.

His Majesty granted you a sword out of the blue...

and ordered you to organise the Martial Examination.

Clearly, His Majesty...

has a lot of faith in you.

His Majesty trusts me this much.

I will not let him down.

The Martial Examination is urgent.

Compared to Prime Minister Dou,

you've a lot more experience in warfare.

You're more fit to be the invigilator...

to select a good general for His Majesty...

and help the Eastern Royal Court end this war as soon as possible.

His Majesty is no longer young.

He needs your help.

I will organise the Martial Examination properly...

and select the capable ones in this year's tournament...

between the East and West Battalions of Zi Yuan.

I hope that a member of Yuan family...

can become the Martial Art Scholar...

and fight in the frontline for the country.

Duke.

You are so loyal to the country.

I know that...

I shouldn't bring this up at a time like this.

But my little sister...

has been depressed after losing the West Battalion.

My sister is an egoistic person.

Please don't hurt her pride.

According to our ancestral rules,

the West Battalion must be commanded by a descendant of Yuan family.

For this reason, as soon as Fei Qing came back,

I returned the West Battalion to him.

But please rest assured, Your Majesty.

I will not...

disappoint your sister.

I made His Majesty grant marriage to Fei Qing today...

because...

I needed to do my sister a favour.

I hope you don't mind.

I've personally...

sent my granddaughter Princess Shu Qi...

to Fei Qing.

From now on, Lian family, Yuan family and the royal family...

are one family.

This marriage...

will bring back the West Battalion...

for my future nephew.

I hope you do me a favour.

-Don't you think... -You may retire.

Dou Ying Hua will be dissatisfied...

when he learns that Yuan Qing Jiang is in charge of...

the Martial Examination?

I am...

really worried.

Prime Minister Dou has been aggressive over the recent years.

Moreover,

I was told that he has dealings with the Duke of Chuanyong.

Clearly,

Prime Minister Dou is competing for power and influence.

Duke Yuan and Prime Minister Dou have been rivals for long.

But the Martial Examination is...

an event to select talents for the court.

This unnecessary competition between them...

is totally ridiculous.

I'll just leave it to Duke Yuan.

Your Majesty.

Your Majesty.

Your lung disease is getting worse.

You must take care.

Never tell anyone about my ailment.

Yes.

Why is it so big?

Will it work?

What is she doing?

Mu Tou Hua.

What invention is this?

-Tell me. -This is a washing machine.

Just turn the handle and it'll spin.

The clothes will be much cleaner.

Not many can invent...

all these practical things.

I guess Hua Mu Jin...

is indeed Hua Bin's child.

These are just little tricks...

for the lowly servants.

The two daughters of Hua Bin...

possess exceptional intelligence...

and purple eyes respectively.

If they assist the little young lord,

we don't have to be afraid even if the duke...

doesn't give him any troops.

Besides,

we already have Hua Jin Xiu with us.

Young Lord Fei Bai.

Help!

Fate really...

brought us together again.

Young lady.

Your handkerchief.

This isn't mine.

It's yours.

I don't think it's mine.

What did that person say to you?

He didn't say much.

He said I lost this handkerchief.

But I didn't lose anything.

He's insane.

Don't talk to him anymore.

Don't worry, Brother Ming Lei.

I'll take good care of myself.

These are the clothes I washed for you.

If you need me to wash or sew anything for you,

just come to me.

Don't be shy.

You were born in a prestigious family.

You shouldn't be doing all these menial works.

But you can't go to training in dirty clothes.

Brother Ming Lei, you must be careful during your training.

Please don't get hurt.

Don't worry.

People might think that...

they are lovers.

There are so many powerful figures in Yuan family.

Are all of them high and mighty...

and unapproachable like Madam Lian?

Not really.

Miss Yuan...

never gives the servants a hard time.

In fact, she rewards us whenever she's in good mood.

There's also Young Lord Fei Bai.

He might look apathetic,

but he's extremely protective of his own men.

This is unbelievable.

There's actually a shiny golden snake in this world.

Mr. Han, are you sure Jin Bu Li can cure me?

Yes, as long as you don't give up.

But I think...

we should steam it.

We can braise it too.

Or should we fry it?

Let's go back quickly.

I thought we were friends.

But I was just too wishful.

But who besides Young Lord Fei Bai...

can help me?

I heard it with my own ears.

Madam Lian and Liu Yan Sheng are plotting...

to harm Young Lord Fei Qing and take back the West Battalion.

You're that Hua Jin Xiu with purple eyes.

Everyone in Zi Yuan knows you.

Isn't Madam Lian very fond of you?

Why did you tell me about that?

From the day I entered Zi Yuan,

Madam Lian sees me as a purple-eye demon...

who will attract bad luck.

She's never fond of me.

You are the Martial Art Maiden appointed by my father himself.

Even if Madam Lian dislikes you,

she won't give you a hard time.

It's true that Madam Lian...

won't give me a hard time on the surface.

But Liu Yan Sheng...

He...

Stand up and speak.

There's no one else here.

You may be frank.

Liu Yan Sheng is a pervert.

He's always harassing me...

and forcing me to break rules.

I do not dare to voice it out.

But,

I don't want to live in such humiliation either.

He's doing that to you?

You may return for now.

I'll think about it.

Yes.

What a coincidence.

Strip.

If you won't strip,

I'll help you.

Strip.

Greetings, my Lord.

I can save you once,

but I can't save you forever.

It's not impossible for you to join Li Rui Pavilion.

The lady said there's limited quota for our Martial Art Maidens.

It's either you or Yao Bi Ying.

Think about it yourself.

Come out, Yuan Fei Bai!

Young Lord Fei Jue is here!

Young Lord Fei Jue is here?

Young Lord Fei Bai!

Young Lord Fei Jue...

I get it.

Young Lord Fei Jue is here!

Young Lord Fei Jue.

Yuan Fei Bai! Come out!

Hurry up!

Catch up!

Come with me! Hurry!

We're running out of time! Hurry!

Catch up!

-Come. -Mr. Han.

Yuan Fei Bai!

Young Lord Fei Jue.

I just made this pastry.

I'll have it after the fight!

Eat it before you fight.

How's it?

Save this for me.

No problem.

Have fun.

I bet on Young Lord Fei Bai. What about you guys?

Only fools bet on Young Lord Fei Jue.

I'm betting on Young Lord Fei Bai too!

I won!

Pay up!

Take it!

Young Lord Fei Jue.

Take it back.

Take it.

I'll get the chef...

to make more for you someday.

The tournament between the East and West Battalions is approaching!

The victor shall earn the duke's trust!

You all must train hard!

Good!

Good!

Thank you.

Good!

I counted the days.

The tournament between the East and West Battalions is around the corner.

The West Battalion lost to the East Battalion...

almost every year under Madam Lian's management.

This year,

we can definitely win.

Good!

Hurry up!

Greetings, Young Lord Fei Qing.

Brother Guang Qian.

You don't seem to take the tournament...

very seriously.

You're not motivated by fame and fortune...

and that's admirable.

Come. Drink with me.

Yes.

When I was 10 years old,

I was brought into the palace forcefully.

I was a study companion in name.

But in truth,

I was a hostage.

The princesses always...

made fun of me.

They'd often dress me up as a girl...

and humiliate me in front of many people.

The worst was when...

they tied up my legs with a rope...

and threw me into the river.

That time,

if it hadn't been for...

a princess called Shu Yi,

I would have drowned to death.

I was toyed like that...

for 10 years.

Young Lord Fei Qing.

Don't you resent them?

Me?

I do resent them.

But I'm the eldest son.

As the eldest son, I must bear all this.

Ten years have passed.

I've returned home.

My home.

My Zi Yuan.

I thought...

I'd be freed from the nightmare.

Yet today,

I was forced to marry Princess Shu Qi.

Why?

Why...

can't I...

live for myself once?

Just once.

Everybody wants to be free.

Unfortunately,

not everyone can be so lucky.

Yes.

You're right.

Everybody wants to be free.

But not...

But not all...

can be so lucky.

Do you pity me?

I dare not.

Let us drink...

while we can.

I just...

see my own shadow in you.

This is the tree trunk.

This is the tree branch.

This is the tree root.

Do you know how to write the word "rice"?

-No. -How?

Just add a horizontal line in between.

This is the word "rice".

Then is this how we write "fruit"?

This is how we write "fruit".

Give it a hat...

and add a horizontal line.

This is "fruit".

I see.

That's such a big fruit.

It must be a pomelo.

"A quiet life in a hut with my love."

"We spend our days reading, writing and playing with our children."

Oh no, Miss Yuan!

The jade you received from the emperor is missing!

Sir.

That's the emperor's gift.

Losing it is a capital offense.

Li Rui Pavilion is heavily guarded.

I don't think it was done by an outsider.

Any rooms you haven't checked yet?

Just the rooms of the two Martial Art Maidens.

Please go ahead and search in my room.

This side.

Miss Yuan, the jade was found in Yao Bi Ying's room.

How should we punish her?

Have her flogged to death.

Bi Ying.

I've treated you well.

Why did you do this?

Miss Yuan, please trust me.

I was set up.

Miss Yuan, although I am the person managing Zi Yuan,

Yao Bi Ying was assigned by the duke himself.

I think we should...

inform the duke before deciding on her punishment.

She stole a gift from the emperor.

Please be fair.

Plant this in Yao Bi Ying's room.

No.

I won't betray my own sister.

It's either you or Yao Bi Ying.

Think about it yourself.

Sister Bi Ying, I will make up for this.

I will never spare those people...

who punished and beat you.

No one has ever been killed in Rong Bao Hall.

Miss Yuan, I'm innocent.

Stop beating her!

Shi Qing Pei.

-Yes. -Go check if she's dead.

Yes.

My sister, she's Guang Qian's godsister.

If we kill her,

he won't forgive us.

She's still breathing.

Young Lord Fei Qing has a point.

Fei Yan.

You don't have to be so mad at a servant.

Just tell me who you want...

and I'll assign her for you.

Since the jade has been found,

I shall spare her.

But no one at all...

is allowed to treat this despicable servant.

Madam Lian.

Please send another competent one...

to Li Rui Pavilion.

That's not a problem.

Shi Qing Pei.

I'll leave her to you.

Then I'll send her to the General Affairs Bureau.

Servants, send her to the General Affairs Bureau.

Yes, Madam Lian.

Young Lord Fei Bai.

Yao Bi Ying of Xiao Wu Yi...

was almost flogged to death today.

Miss Yuan claimed that she stole a gift from the emperor.

How is she?

She denied it even though they tortured her.

Fortunately, she survived.

Shi Qing Pei sent her to the General Affairs Bureau.

She's a woman of integrity.

Shi Qing Pei isn't a fool.

He'll pay attention.

Why is it acting up again?

Let's head to the medicinal spring immediately.

Come.

Father is about to return for the tournament.

If Madam Lian complains to father...

about you punishing a Martial Art Maiden because of a soldier,

father would take back the West Battalion in a fit of anger...

and even punish you.

My dear sister.

At a crucial time like this,

we should lay low.

I'm begging you.

I can't accept the intimate interactions...

between Yao Bi Ying and Song Ming Lei.

What's the problem with that?

I don't need fame and fortune.

All I want is the man I truly love.

What's wrong with fighting for my own happiness?

My dear sister.

If he doesn't love you,

there's nothing you can do about it.

I never fail to get what I want.

Song Ming Lei...

can only belong to me.

Besides,

I believe he can be of help to you...

and the West Battalion.

Brother, I'm trying to help you too.

Let her recuperate here for now.

I got you a blanket.

You can move over...

and look after her.

Here you go.

Thank you, Chief.

I got to go.

I will find the person who framed Bi Ying.

I'm too useless.

From now on, I must train hard.

I must become a successful man...

and protect all of you.

It's training time.

Please go back quickly...

before someone complains.

I'll look after Bi Ying.

Just go.

Go.

But...

Go.

I finally...

feel the fear of living in Zi Yuan.

Now, everybody...

knows that you are an inventor.

I'm really worried about you.

I'm a servant in the General Affairs Bureau now.

I'll probably stay the same forever.

But you're different, Jin Xiu.

Your personality...

I will surely become strong.

I will succeed in your stead...

and protect you forever.

This is a tocolytic...

bestowed by His Majesty.

I shall not let His Majesty down...

and I shall give birth to a boy for Yuan family.

You're crying?

Greetings, Young Lord Fei Bai.

What's with the formalities?

I'm just a servant.

I should bow to my master.

Did someone bully you?

I only have one question.

When are you...

your true self?

Every person...

has multiple faces.

There are things we are forced to do.

If I've hurt you because of that,

I'm sorry.

But when I'm here...

and when there's just the two of us,

I'm myself.

In many occasions,

you couldn't be honest to me.

I shouldn't ask for too much.

Stop speaking as a servant.

Don't cry, alright?

It's because I...

can finally leave Rong Bao Hall.

I don't know how I feel right now.

I just feel like...

I'm finally freed from my nightmare.

But I don't see...

any happiness in your eyes.

There is always a huge price to pay...

for every glory.

In this world,

no one can do only the good things.

We're mortals, not saints.

If you repent,

it's because you're kinder than others.

Young Lord Fei Ban.

You're the kindest person in this world.

Thank you for comforting me.

You look cuter when you smile.

From now on, I won't blame fate.

I will work hard...

to soar higher and higher...

until I can protect everybody.

"When they fell, they scattered."

"Their union was only temporary."

What did you say?

Nothing.

Chief, why is Bi Ying having a fever?

They beat her so hard...

and her wounds aren't healing at all. Of course she'll get a fever.

But Miss Yuan wouldn't let us get a physician for Bi Ying.

No matter what, even if it'll cost my life,

I must get a physician for Bi Ying.

Don't go.

Mu Jin.

Even if I recover,

I'll be disabled.

Nonsense!

In this case,

I actually know a remedy.
