So how did your family start
designing ice hotels?

Well, when I was a kid,

I asked my dad for an igloo,

and he recruited our family
friend, Joe Shawinigan,

who is also a resident artist
here, actually.

He's the one that showed my dad
how to pack the snow

so tight that it would actually
trap our body heat.

My dad and I spent the night
in the igloo,

and the idea for the Ice Hotel
was born.

That's a nice story.

A lot of dreams are born from
great stories.

What inspired you to enter into
the wild world

of hospitality and hotel
management?

It's a family tradition.

Every year, my family goes on
a tropical vacation.

Collecting seashells,
hearing the waves on the shore.

And ever since then,
I wanted to manage my own hotel.

Somewhere warm.
You know, nothing fancy,

just a couple huts on the ocean.

What happened?

I was managing a hotel
for a little bit,

but as it turns out,
it kind of flooded on my watch.

So that's when I joined
the agency,

and I've been there ever since.

Here I am, fixing another
mistake.

that my dad and I tried to build

started melting before we were
even finished.

It was a total disaster.

But we just kept the dream alive

and kept trying until
we did it.

like a little lollypop with it.

You want to do it while it's
still soft,

the kind of job you get right
out of college,

And then, one night,
I was working late

and the kitchen staff told me
about a leak

that I thought could wait until
the next morning.

Clearly I was wrong, so, yeah
an inch of water later,

I was fired, and that's when I
started working at the agency.

Kind of hard to mess up an eight
by eight cubicle, right?

I can imagine why that would
make you question yourself,

but take it from somebody who
has been through

a lot of ups and downs
in this business,

you have more than what it takes
to run a place like this.

be a shame
