Time Flies and You Are Here

Episode 30

A great banquet in the spring with songs and wine

Su Chang Ji

Look.

The material is pretty good, isn't it?

Yes, it is.

Let me measure on you.

I'll make you some garments later.

You should leave it for yourself.

Don't worry about it.

Xiaoman!

Mother!

What's the matter?

Mother!

What's the problem?

What's going on?

What's going on?

Father

was arrested by the magistrate.

Su Chang Ji is alleged of selling fake silk.

How ridiculous.

Su Chang Ji would never produce fake silk.

That's right.

What's going on?

Shen Zhaowen was behind it.

They claimed that

Commandery Princess Rong'an

purchased fake silk from our store.

That's why she sent guards to shut the store down

and arrested father.

She left this for you.

Meet me at Fengyue Tavern at 1:45 p.m. From Commandery Princess Rong'an

She's doing this to aggravate me.

I'm going to meet her right now.

You should go.

Hurry up.

Don't worry, sister-in-law.

Don't worry.

The silk produced by Su Chang Ji

is indeed finer than other stores.

Shen Zhaowen!

Hold it!

Shen Zhaowen!

You're not allowed to enter!

Let her in.

- Let go! - Let go!

You're distorting the facts

and oppressing the innocent.

The taxpayers don't pay tribute to you, Commandery Princess Rong'an,

to allow you

to oppress us.

I oppress you.

What can you do?

I...

What do you want?

It's always easy to talk to you.

It's been many years.

You and I can finally treat each other with honesty.

To be honest, there's nothing I want.

I just want you to know

that Hanchen and I are getting married.

To be frank,

you were in love before.

I feel uneasy.

We have nothing to do with each other anymore.

Why would you pester him then?

What I want is rather simple.

I'm aware that Li Congwen has feelings for you.

If you're willing to marry Li Congwen,

perhaps that would put my mind at ease.

When I'm at ease,

Hanchen would be happy as well.

No trouble would befall Shopkeeper Meng.

Is this your will?

Currently, Shopkeeper Meng

is being detained at the local government office.

Hanchen is the Imperial Grand Governor.

What do you think?

Hanchen also said,

if you're willing,

he'd offer endowment

to sever the ties

between you.

Let me ask you again.

Did Zhao Xiaoqian really say so?

Xiaoman, what are you doing?

Calm down.

Yes.

What do you think you're doing?

You...

Xiaoman.

Guards!

Let me go!

Xiaoman.

Let me go!

I warned you a long time ago.

The capital is a complicated place.

There is no place

for a common folk like you.

You insisted on coming here.

When you're hurt,

you seek to take revenge against the powerful.

When you're crushed to death,

you will not be able obtain the justice you seek.

Isn't that right?

What if I insist on taking revenge?

I've arrested Meng Hanru today,

I can do the same to you tomorrow.

Xie Xiaoman.

You're too naive.

Pride will do you no good.

Nobody would take the grudges of the insignificant

seriously.

Xiaoman.

I need to talk to Zhao Xiaoqian.

Commandery Prince's Mansion

Admission Record Documents

Something happened.

Xiaoman...

What happened to Xiaoman?

Nothing.

It's fortunate that you managed to seize the governance of the capital.

Past records of the incident are kept in the office.

I divided them into three parts.

On the right are the records of provision distribution.

All the relevant admission documents

from the capital to Baichuankou are there.

On the left

are the audit files of Jingdong and Jingxi Roads.

What about the bank of Li Guangwen?

Did you investigate it?

Yes,

but there aren't any suspicions detected yet.

The bank is a personal property of Li Guangwen.

I suspect that the ledger is already destroyed.

Are you implying that the accounts of both Jingdong and Jingxi Roads

are related to Li Guangwen?

The accounts of Jingdong and Jingxi Roads

must be related to the bank.

Li Guangwen was an important member of Xu's party then.

He was relegated due to his corruption.

Xu Huan terminated his right-hand man

and kicked Li Guangwen out.

Without the involvement of Li Guangwen,

the operation to embezzle the funds through Jingdong and Jingxi Roads

shows clear deficit very soon.

That's why

they decided to use military funds to fill the shortages.

Today...

Your Highness.

Lady Xie seeks an audience.

Tell her I'm not home.

Zhao Xiaoqian.

Zhao Xiaoqian, come out here right now.

Please give me a moment.

My uncle is a law-abiding citizen.

He has been operating his business with clear conscience.

He's being accused.

Su Chang Ji would never produce fake silk.

Zhao Xiaoqian,

please help us out.

Lady Xie,

His Highness is not in at the moment.

Zhao Xiaoqian, come out here.

Listen to me.

I was told

you're now the Imperial Grand Governor of the capital.

My uncle is being detained at your office right now.

My father doesn't know anything.

He didn't do anything wrong.

My father is being accused.

Zhao Xiaoqian, please save him.

I'm begging you.

He's innocent.

I'm begging you.

Please help us out.

The magistrate received a new case today.

Su Chang Ji sold fake silk.

The person in custody

is Meng Hanru.

The plaintiff is Commandery Princess Rong'an.

She

wants the union of Xiaoman and Li Su.

Is this what you wanted to tell me just now?

Zhao Xiaoqian, sober up.

It's not the time to get involved in this case.

Mr. Liangji.

I'm begging you.

Please lend us a hand.

Yes.

If you refuse,

my uncle is old,

and he can't endure such a plight.

Mr. Liangji.

Well...

I'm begging you.

Lady Xie.

Lady Xie, please stop making a scene.

If you continue on like this,

I have no choice

but to send for the guards.

He's unwilling to meet me,

isn't he?

Zhao Xiaoqian, you rascal!

Let me go.

Hanchen.

Did you forget

the oath you swore back at Baichuankou?

You asked me to help to defeat Xu Huan.

We finally

made it this far

and obtained the governance of the capital.

We can finally investigate the case of the lost provisions.

If you offend Shen Zhaowen right now

and expose yourself,

the evidence we collected today

would vanish by tomorrow.

Shen Zhaowen knew the marriage was a hoax.

Why would she corner me?

I know.

However, what can we do?

We are at the crucial moment.

Hanchen.

One more step

and we can uncover the collusion

between the bank and the provisions.

We can finally

obtain the evidence of Xu Huan's corruption.

It's Xie Xiaoman we're talking about!

Lord Zhao,

please reconsider your priorities.

You advanced step by step

and finally made it this far.

For the sake of investigation,

you endured the infamy of coveting the throne

and took over the governance of the capital.

You requested Shen Zhaowen to be betrothed to you

all for the sake of

convincing Xu Huan that you're after the throne

instead of the investigation.

Right now,

if you turn against Shen Zhaowen,

by Xu Huan's cunningness,

your true goal would be revealed to him.

In the time to come,

we will be stuck.

The case of Baichuankou will never be resolved.

All you want is for me to marry Li Su.

You just want me

to give up on you.

Fine.

I admit defeat.

I'll marry him.

I'll marry him!

Why did he refuse to meet me?

Fine.

Convey my message to him.

If that's the case,

we will never meet again.

Xiaoman.

Commandery Prince's Mansion

Meng Hanru is imprisoned.

No visitors allowed.

Keep him safe during this period of time.

I'll deal with

Shen Zhaowen.

Mother.

Father would return safe and sound.

Sister-in-law.

You should eat something.

Mother.

Studio of Artlessness

No evidence was found

From the investigation of Jingdong and Jingxi Roads

Shuozhou

Are these the evidences you found?

Everyone believed that I was after the throne.

I'm afraid that even Your Majesty thought so as well.

However, I came back for only one reason,

to avenge the wronged death of the soldiers at Baichuankou.

There weren't wronged deaths at Baichuankou.

You won the war as well.

The governance of the capital was given to you.

What else do you want?

General Xu Zi and I

were suppressing the enemy at Baichuankou.

Your Majesty approved the military provisions of 300,000 piculs

to be delivered to Baichuankou.

Among the batch,

200,000 piculs were burned

and destroyed by the fire at Shuozhou.

General Xu Zi and I

led the Xiongjie Army at Baichuankou

and fought the war with the limited 100,000 piculs left for half a year.

We finally cast the enemy out of our borders.

However, the mere 100,000 piculs of provisions

weren't sufficient to feed the brothers at Baichuankou.

10,000 of our soldiers died.

Some of them were

starved to death on the battlefield.

Although

victory was seized,

it was a great lost.

The transporting officers of military provisions

were all dead. There were no witnesses to testify.

Among the 200,000 piculs,

they weren't provisions

but hay instead.

Zhao Xiaoqian.

Do you know how much trouble

this statement will cause?

Three years ago,

Li Guangwen was relegated due to his involvement in corruption.

Your Majesty ordered to inspect the accounts of Jingdong and Jingxi Roads.

That corrupt, Xu Huan,

embezzled all the funds involved.

Your Majesty, are you unaware of

how the deficits of the accounts were suddenly made up for?

Why did the 200,000 piculs worth of provisions

are hay?

Why would Xu Huan behave this brazenly?

Xu Huan has been indicted over the years,

but the officials who charged him of misconduct

were either exiled

or executed.

Everyone knows

Xu Huan cannot be investigated.

If they get to the bottom of this,

the Crown Prince would be implicated.

Zhao Xiaoqian.

Your Majesty,

isn't that right?

Your Majesty, are you aware of

the money that came from

the corruption of the two roads

did not only go into the pocket of Chancellor Xu,

but also

the pocket of the Crown Prince.

Zhao Xiaoqian!

I've uncovered the truth!

All the evidences are listed in the memorial!

I beg for Your Majesty to get to the bottom of this!

Memorial to the throne

What about your witnesses?

Do you have the witnesses?

These are serious accusations.

Without witnesses,

according to the law,

the investigation is nullified.

Your Majesty.

You're dismissed.

I'll pretend like

I've never heard this.

Your Majesty.

During the War of Baichuankou, because of the lack of provisions,

many have died.

Everyone claimed that I sacrificed lives for my pride.

However, the true perpetrator

is Xu Huan who led the Crown Prince

to swallow the state Your Majesty built gradually.

Your Majesty,

the country is falling apart.

Your Majesty, are you going to leave it?

Did the soldiers who offered their lives to guard the state

deserve to starve to death?

Memorial to the throne

Your Majesty,

you knew about this a long time ago, right?

You were planning

to suppress this case

because the thief got the Crown Prince implicated.

Fine.

Fine.

Xu Huan is brilliant.

Xu Huan is brilliant.

This party that consists of the corrupted and perverse,

despite the sufferings of the people,

the invasion of the state,

no one could put the party to justice!

Isn't that right, Your Majesty?

Get out of here!

I beg for Your Majesty to reinvestigate the case of Baichuankou!

Guards!

Seize him!

Your Majesty,

the nation is falling apart.

Your Majesty,

the nation is falling apart.

The nation is falling apart!

Brat!

The nation is falling apart!

Please calm down, Your Majesty.

How dare you go against me?

Submit him to flogging!

Your Majesty!

Flog him!

The nation is falling apart!

Your Majesty!

Flog him!

Flog him!

Move it!

He will be flogged 20 times!

Your Majesty!

Why did Your Highness go against His Majesty?

Today is the engagement of Xiaoman.

I beg your pardon, Your Highness?

Today

is the engagement of Xiaoman.

This servant is treated like a princess.

I even have to take care of you.

Rascal.

Rascal.

You...

You're so mean.

Please let me go.

I'll resolve everything!

I disagree!

There's only one Zhao Xiaoqian

who'd love you above everything else.

That's my whole life!

My whole life!

Two years.

I do!

Zhao Xiaoqian,

it's not supposed to end up like this.

You're a man of ambitions.

There are things you want to do.

Your Highness.

Your Highness.

But when he handed

We separated before

due to the differences in status.

Too many people were implicated because of us.

I'm a mere commoner.

I'm not worthy to be the wife of the Commandery Prince

However, when I saw him again,
