Previously on Van Helsing...

It's Jack!

She might not be dead.

How'd you know to bury yourself like that?

I just figured it was the best way for me to get back.

No!

The sister Scarlett.

She died for nothing.

- But you heal. - Not anymore.

We're mere mortals now thanks to BlakTek and the army.

That orange chemical shit took our ability to heal,

and almost killed us in the process.

They figured out how to make daywalkers

and then they figured out how to kill them.

I call these "one and done".

Put that anywhere in a daywalker's body

- and they're down for the count. - What?

We only have a handful of those, so gotta conserve.

Jack, Vanessa, you. You gave my life purpose.

Thank you.

No!

- It feels good, huh? - Mm, yeah. I almost forgot how much.

See, my people, they were sun worshippers.

It's good to finally get some of it back.

How is it?

It's a 6,000-pound paperweight.

I'm not sure how much longer I can keep it running.

We're still a few hundred miles from the Dark One.

Yeah, we'll get a new one as soon as we get a chance.

Looks just like him.

I figured he deserves to be remembered.

He's as much a part of this fight as me or any of my ancestors.

He'd like to hear that.

Yeah.

But...

he can't, so...

- You want to talk about it? - What's to talk about?

He sacrificed himself to save me, and that's on me to deal with.

You don't have to bottle it all up, Vi. He was my friend, too.

I'm here to talk.

Okay.

You wanna talk?

Let's talk. Let's talk about our pain.

Let's talk about Scarlett. Let's talk about Vanessa.

Hmm?

That's what I thought.

Grab your stuff. Let's go.

- Hey, you okay? - Are you okay?

- I'm fine! - Get up.

They found us.

- Into the trees, now! Go! - Run!

- Go! - Go!

Keep going!

- Synced and corrected by Firefly - - www.addic7ed.com -

Stop firing! Stop firing!

They just blew up our whole stash.

- We gotta stay outta sight of those guns. - Yeah.

We're gonna have to do this in spurts, all right?

Twenty yards at a time. Pick your cover. Ready?

- Got it. - Go, now!

- Go! - Go!

Go! Go! Move!

Move!

- I'm not sure we're gonna shake them. - There!

- That's the opening! Now, go! - Go!

Coming up to another path!

Sooner or later they're gonna find a place to land that thing.

Let's do an ammo count.

I've just got two days of rations in my pack.

I got six in my clip, one in my chamber.

- Four here. - Half.

That's not gonna do us a hell of a lot of good

against the soldiers coming out of that chopper.

What is this place?

_

Looks like an abandoned tourist mine.

Tourist mine?

Sometimes when these places get decommissioned, they open them up

so that people can come and see what it was like to be a miner.

People used to choose to come to these places?

Yeah. Once upon a time,

places like this were the backbone of this country.

Well, they're full of slaves in mine.

Full of death.

This leads to an opening.

How far?

I don't know. It's not exactly to scale.

Yeah, this here looks like the working area of the mine,

and it lets out on the other side of those hills.

Maybe a couple of miles.

It'll be perfect cover from that helicopter.

- Sure would. - All right, let's do it.

- Okay. - Oorah.

Creepy.

Did we take a wrong turn?

Um. No. Pretty sure this is the right way.

- Right here. - _

_

This must be the working section.

Guess they didn't want Ma and Pop public going in there.

- This looks cute. - Yeah, like a bunny.

What's with all the acid?

They use it to extract copper from the rocks.

How on earth do you know that?

Mikey's fun fact number two.

Probably just the walls settling.

- Yeah. - Probably.

Okay, let me see.

Be my guest.

Looks like if we keep heading that way,

we'll come straight to the exit.

Goddamn apocalypse.

Oh, God.

- Are you okay? - Yeah.

Wait, wait. Stop, stop, stop! Stop!

Holy shit.

Run!

- Are you okay? - Yeah. You?

I guess.

What was that thing?

I got no idea.

I'm starting to feel like the chopper wasn't so bad, though.

Where are the girls?

- Jack? - Jack?

Violet?

- Axel? - Violet!

Ivory?

You guys okay over there?

Uh, alive. If that counts.

I was starting to feel like we might have lost you.

The entrance is sealed off from the collapse.

At least the soldiers won't be following us.

Hell of a silver lining.

You guys still got that map?

Uh... Yeah.

All right then. Well, you follow it to the exit.

And we'll follow the compass right to you.

- All right? - Uh, is that thing dead?

We don't know.

Get moving. We'll see you on the other side.

Be careful.

Yeah, you too.

I think my shotgun's buried under that pile of rocks.

I don't figure this pistol's gonna do much more

than piss that thing off, so...

How are you doing on ammo?

- That good, huh? - Yeah.

So if we run into the cave Sasquatch, what are we gonna do then?

We're gonna kill it.

I like your style.

At least this tunnel seems to be heading in the right direction.

I just hope that they make it.

- They'll make it. - But they're weaponless.

And I fear that with Jack still weak from her slumber...

Look, ah...

It's been such a long time, I'm sure you're feeling a rush of...

you know, emotions.

What are you trying to say?

Caring for a Van Helsing,

caring for their cause, that's one thing, but...

Look.

I fell for one.

Hard.

And I lost her.

Scarlett.

Yeah, I remember.

- She was a great warrior. - Yeah.

Yeah. Well, you know, they say it themselves.

They're just... they're built for sacrifice.

I guess what I'm trying to say is,

if you lose someone that you'd give anything for,

it can put you in a pretty dark place

and you might not get out.

But you did.

Did you not?

Well, just be careful.

Of what?

I'm just saying, we don't know what the future holds for us.

I understand the risks and so does Ivory.

I know, but sometimes love can cloud your vision.

I mean, I can't even imagine if Lee was here right now.

Who's Lee?

He's my boyfriend.

Was.

Was my boyfriend.

Anyway, I, um...

I had to leave him behind.

At first, I... I thought it was for his safety.

Now I think I just didn't want my feelings

for him to cloud the mission.

That sounds hard.

I look forward to meeting him when all this is over.

Ugh.

Oh, it smells like death.

I'd say we found its den.

Not exactly a picky eater.

Yeah, well, I don't really wanna fight anything that eats bears.

You and me both.

Hey, hey.

Hello.

Oh, hello.

You got anything left in you?

What is that thing?

Let there be light.

- Yeah, it's magic. - That's incredible.

What does it say?

- This way. - Yeah?

Slow down.

I'm the one with the flashlight, remember?

I can see...

fine.

Whoa.

What is that?

Holy shit.

It's a kid.

Hey there.

It's okay, we're not gonna hurt you.

What's she doing down here?

She probably thought this was safer than outside.

An abandoned mine with a giant monster is safer than outside?

Maybe she's lost.

I mean, either way, we gotta help her, right?

Yeah.

Come on, kid.

Shit.

- Hey, it's okay. - Jack!

- Hey! Hey! - Jack!

- Jack! - Hey!

They should be just up here around this bend.

Do you regret falling in love?

- Excuse me? - With Scarlett. Do you regret it?

I mean, would you take it back

knowing all the pain that it caused you when she died?

Why would you ask me that?

- Jeez! Whoa! Whoa! Hey. - Whoa!

- Thank you. - Sure.

Not like we didn't have enough to worry about.

You think we can jump it?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. We could use that to swing across.

- Ready to do some Indiana Jones shit? - Who?

Okay, well, I guess that answers that.

- Catch? - Yeah.

Why can't it ever just be easy?

She made it look easy.

- Indiana Jones, right? - Yeah, Indy. Here we go.

Axel!

Hey, towards me!

No!

No! God damn it, I dropped the compass.

Swing to me.

Son of a bitch.

You got it. You got it.

No, no, no.

Come up! Hey, hey! Come on!

That could have been worse.

I guess.

Hey, kid.

Where did she go?

Hey. Hey, little one.

Whoa!

Okay, stop. Stop.

We're not gonna hurt you.

I guess... I guess she likes shiny things.

You okay?

How long do you think she's been down here for?

Long enough to go full Lord of the Flies.

My name's Jack.

What's your name?

Is this your family?

Are you hungry?

Here.

You can eat it. Trust me. It's good.

That's debatable.

See? We're not so scary.

- Papa. - Papa. This is your dad?

Is this that... thing out there?

Jack, maybe we can give this kid a chance at a normal life

if we can find her dad and turn him back.

Before Axel and Ivory kill him.

We can help you and your papa.

Would you like that?

Can you show us where he is?

Come on.

That... that's just my amulet.

- Whoa! No! That little shit! - Hurry, we gotta get her.

Oh, that's fantastic. Now we're going in circles.

Okay, well, we don't wanna be here.

You got that right, sister.

It's an expression.

- We came from that one. - Are you sure?

No.

We're just gonna have to go through them one by one,

mark them as we go, trial and error.

So just choose blindly until we just stumble upon the correct path?

Uh, that's pretty much it, yeah.

- Yeah. - Wait a second.

What is it?

They're that way.

How do you know?

I don't know how I know, I just know.

All right. So we go that way.

Ugh.

What is that smell?

That still smells like death.

Everything smells like death to you.

I guess that is death.

Hey!

Give us back the amulet.

Please.

We're trying to help you.

Wiley little bugger.

What's that sound?

We'll find out soon enough.

Goddamn.

That didn't really go as planned.

Come on, come on, come on.

Groovy.

Take its head now!

You... you shot me.

We had that thing dead to rights. You care to explain?

- We couldn't let you kill it. - Why not?

- And who is this? - That thing is her father.

I would have never done it if you didn't heal.

Yeah, I figured.

Guess this means that you like me?

Are you okay?

Yeah, yeah, it's okay. I'm okay. I'm okay.

You want to turn it human again, don't you?

Well, that's the point of all of this, isn't it?

- What is it? - Not around young ears.

Okay. I'm gonna leave you with Jack.

Hello.

I'm Ivory.

I'm sorry.

I didn't mean to hurt your father.

Oh, no, look. I'm okay.

I heal. Yeah.

Don't let her run off.

- Yeah. - Okay.

What's the problem?

We let him bite one of us and that little girl gets her dad back.

I get it. It would be great to reunite the kid with her father.

But it might not be possible.

- Why? - He's feral. Or damn near.

Almost every time Vanessa tried to turn a feral, the thing died.

We have to try.

What if it doesn't work?

We're off to fight the Dark One. We can't have a kid tagging along.

We deal with that when we get to it.

All right.

I guess we hunt.

So what's the plan?

We're gonna try and save your papa.

Just like we promised.

I... help.

Yeah.

Thanks.

Th-Thanks.

Papa.

- I guess it's go time. - You sure he's got no other way out?

Sure as I can be. Ivory and I just about wound up

at the center of the earth back there,

so I think this is the only way out.

- You wanna do this? - Yeah, I got this.

Okay. All right. Time to ring the dinner bell.

Take your positions, everyone, in case things get hairy.

All right, I'm coming with you.

- No. - What?

You kill.

I'm not gonna hurt your father, okay? We're gonna go help him.

Okay? I promise.

Oh, he's close. I can smell him.

It's not subtle.

Come and get it!

Shit!

Ivory!

- That's Ivory. - Something's wrong. Go!

Get up, Jack! Get away from her! Jack, get up! Get up!

Jack!

Wake up! Wake up! Leave her alone!

Get up, Jack! Get up! Get up! Get up!

Jack, get up! Jack!

Jack!

- Jack! - We're gonna have to take him down.

Yeah. I'm sorry.

Papa, no!

Papa.

Papa.

Emmett.

Emmett.

Mm. Sweet daylight.

I don't care what kind of danger we're facing out here.

No more mines, no more caves.

Hell, I'm willing to veto basements at this point.

Agreed.

You sure you, uh... you wanna stay here?

It's...

it's safe.

- Together. - Yeah, just take it easy.

You were nearly feral. It's gonna take some time.

You be good for your dad. And you two look out for each other.

Thank you.

You're welcome, Emmett.

Well, I hate to be that guy, but we got a lot of miles to cover.

Good luck.

Bye.

You think we did the right thing leaving them here

with him like that?

It's too dangerous to take them.

The kid's a survivor. And the old man ought to be dead.

Unless your Van Helsing 2.0 bite is somehow different.

That's one tough son of a bitch. They'll be fine.

That was a really good thing, what you did for them.

Yeah, well, sometimes we need a little bit of

a reminder of what we're fighting for.

I'm happy it worked out.

We need a new vehicle.

We need new weapons.

What we need is to split up.

- We're stronger as a group. - And we're more susceptible.

That little adventure just about cost the world

its only shot at beating the Dark One.

I hate to say it, but splitting the two of you up

is the only way to make sure that at least one of you

makes it to the Oracle.

He's right.

Yeah.

Here.

Take the amulet.

The Dark One and the Oracle

don't know you've made it back from the past.

It's safer in your hands.

I'll protect it with my life.

Yeah, I won't let it get to that.

All right, then.

We split up, take different routes to DC.

You and I'll take the main road.

They're gunning for us,

so maybe we could take the heat off of Jack and Ivory.

Okay, but how are we gonna find each other once we're there?

There's a place called Meridian Park.

Has a sundial in it.

Whoever gets there first, hide a note. We'll meet up.

Okay.

- See you there. - You better.

Hey, listen. All that crap I was saying in the tunnels,

forget all that.

Love fast, love hard. That shit is rare.

Better to have loved and lost, you know?

Come here.

Take care of you.

Yeah, you too.

Take care of my sister.

You know I will.

Thank you, Axel, for everything.

You just make sure you get there in one piece, all right?

Let's get out of here. It's almost nighttime.

We're sitting ducks.

If you ever need me...

remember I'm always here.

I'll see you in DC.

Yeah, you will.
