Episode 11

Your Highness.

Why are you here?

Your Highness,

did you go to the mortal realm for His Majesty?

No.

Really?

I just went there to get some scripts.

Then why do you look pale?

Maybe it's because

I've been studying too hard these days.

Actually, I've been engrossed in swordsmanship lately.

Perhaps I've practiced too much.

How about letting me

check your pulse?

Obviously, these symptoms showed up

after your magic arts backfired on you in the mortal realm.

Won't you tell me the truth?

I... I did go to see His Majesty.

His Majesty hasn't recovered.

If you bother him,

he wouldn't regain his strength,

which, in turn,

makes him unable to suppress Miaoyi Chasm.

By then,

Miao Luo will break the seal.

Then the universe

will undergo great calamity.

Do you know all that?

How could it be like this?

I've heard he's gone to experience his misfortunes in the mortal realm

to better understand the "seven suffering" in Buddhist texts.

Why did you say he's there to regain his strength?

Every action His Majesty makes

is vital to the universe.

How can we...

How can we let others know

His Majesty is badly injured?

Your Highness, you're muddle-headed.

But I didn't bother him.

I even saved him

when he was in danger.

Your saving him

actually bothered him.

Why?

His Majesty was supposed to

go through three major setbacks in the mortal realm.

I won't give you too many details.

Let me just tell you something about his relationships.

According to Book of Fate,

His Majesty should've been badly wounded in that battle.

Then he should be saved by a maid called Zhou Mengxi

before getting better.

That's why His Majesty falls in love with her.

Zhou Mengxi

is the one His Majesty is destined to love.

Now that you saved His Majesty,

he was not injured at all,

so he couldn't meet Zhou Mengxi.

Then how could he fall in love with her?

So...

What to do now?

Is there anything I can do to make up for it?

To make up for it,

you have to let His Majesty meet Zhou Mengxi soon.

As the saying goes, whoever started the trouble should end it.

Your Highness,

now that you stopped them meeting each other,

you'll have to help them encounter.

Then His Majesty can continue experiencing his misfortune.

Okay.

I'll go to the mortal realm

and find Zhou Mengxi.

Wait.

Let me repeat it.

Your magic arts will backfire on you

if you use them in the mortal realm.

You may be seriously injured and even die.

You've known what it's like.

Remember.

No matter how awful the situation is,

don't use magic arts.

Got it.

I used some magic arts

and then almost failed to come back.

I won't use them again.

Hope to see you again.

Okay.

Hope to see you again.

Okay.

Take care.

Sir, this way please.

Okay.

Those cosmetics in the mortal realm

can cover my birthmark on the forehead easily.

I wouldn't have bothered Zhe Yan if I had known that.

This way, please.

A table by the window.

What would you like to have, sir?

Just recommend two dishes to me.

Okay. Just a minute.

Si Ming said Zhou Mengxi stays in the imperial palace of the State of Chengyu.

So, the first thing is

to find a way to enter the imperial palace

before I can get more information.

But how can I get there?

Okay, sir.

Here are your dishes.

Here you are.

Okay. This is the liquor you want.

It's awful.

Si Ming did me a favor

when I wanted to be a maid in Tai Chen Palace.

Nobody could help me in the mortal realm.

That beauty has arrived!

That beauty has arrived!

Waiter,

what's going on?

Sir, there is something you don't know.

The princess of the State of Chong'an has arrived.

Everyone wants to have a look at her.

I wonder what His Majesty's woman looks like

when he's in the mortal realm.

I'll go have a look.

Look. That's General Ye.

He's hot!

- He's handsome. - A fine-looking man.

He's the general

who fought with His Majesty side by side that day.

If I get to know him,

I can ask him to help me

enter the imperial palace.

Beautiful.

Your Highness,

so many people are here for you.

I don't think they've seen anyone

as gorgeous as you.

A grander ceremony must be awaiting us

after we enter the imperial palace.

The more attention we draw,

the more inconvenient it'll be for us to take actions.

Mr. Nie asked us to be cautious

when we stay in the imperial palace.

Got it.

General Ye.

Your Highness. General Ye.

General Ye.

Protect Her Highness!

Got it!

Ling Xiang,

don't worry.

General Ye is brave and battlewise. It'll be fine.

General Ye, watch out!

Watch your back!

Your Highness, be careful.

Your Highness, let's try to get out of here.

Ling Xiang,

if we lose patience because of something trivial like this,

how could we get the treasure?

Don't let them know you can do Kung Fu unless it's necessary,

or they'll be suspicious of us.

Your Highness, you're right.

Please forgive me.

Who sent you here?

Pull back!

Chase them!

Got it.

Take these bodies back

to find out their identities.

And catch those suspicious people around for interrogation.

Got it.

Your Highness, sorry for letting you be scared.

I should've done better.

Please forgive me.

Your Highness, are you injured?

General Ye,

Her Highness is not injured.

General Ye, you did a good job.

You didn't do anything wrong.

Have those assassins been caught?

I've sent guys to chase those who ran away.

Those we caught have died of poison.

It's safe now.

Please don't worry.

General Ye, you deserve the reputation you enjoy.

I'm flattered.

To prevent such a thing happening again,

I'll escort you to the imperial palace now.

Just do as you say.

Go!

I'm not an assassin.

General Ye knows me.

- Cut the crap. - Go!

We'll find out the truth after interrogation.

Go!

Let go of him.

Who allowed you to tie him up?

You can leave.

Got it.

I'm sorry.

I ordered them to take back suspicious people.

Unexpectedly, they tied you up.

I thought

you'd return my kindness

with ingratitude.

Xiaojiu,

you saved His Majesty

over and over again.

I couldn't be rude to you

no matter how unwise I am.

How did you know my name?

Where did you get it?

Since you saved His Majesty that day on the battlefield,

he's been trying to find you.

He had portraits of you painted and posted across the country.

Don't you know that?

Why were you disguised as a solider?

Why did you come here in the capital?

I...

Forget about it.

I'll take you to the imperial palace now.

You can tell His Majesty directly.

Let's go.

Ye Qingti's subordinates

are tougher than common soldiers.

And he himself is bold and powerful.

But don't worry.

All of them killed themselves after being caught,

leaving no clues at all.

Good.

Each of you will be rewarded.

Your Highness,

now that I didn't fulfill the task,

I don't dare to accept any reward.

This failure

is not your fault.

You'll be rewarded as usual.

Give them liquor.

Come on.

For bros who lost their lives!

For bros who lost their lives!

Ye Qingti,

you're lucky this time,

but I won't leave it at that.

After a title is conferred on the princess of Chong'an,

I'll report to His Majesty.

Then you'll be summoned.

I see.

Your Highness, here we are.

Please follow me.

It's a pity that I didn't see her face.

I'm going to see His Majesty soon.

He's just a mortal.

Why am I still so nervous?

Bai Fengjiu,

you're really hopeless.

Your Majesty,

Princess Chu Wan of Chong'an arrives.

Let her in.

Let Princess Chu Wan of Chong'an come in!

Here she comes.

Gorgeous!

She proves herself to be the No.1 beauty in Chong'an.

She deserves her reputation.

Exactly.

Let me show my respect to you, Your Majesty.

Rise.

Chu Wan, are you injured?

Thank you for your care.

It's all good with me.

I'm unharmed.

You must've been scared

now that an assassination happened once you came into town.

I'll find the truth out

and give you an explanation.

Thank you, Your Majesty.

I really appreciate it.

The two states of Chengyu and Chong'an had many complaints against each other

and had been at war for years,

resulting in numerous casualties.

It's a good thing

that we make peace

with each other

and turn hostility to friendship.

Chu Wan, you impressed me

with your praiseworthy courage.

The benefits people received from you are beyond measure.

I'm flattered.

It's a great honor

to do my bit for the sake of the two states.

Great.

You're sensible

and reasonable.

It's a blessing for people of the two states to have you.

Now that your name is Chu Wan,

Imperial Concubine Wan will be conferred on you.

You'll live in Wan Yun Palace.

Thank you, Your Majesty.

Rewards will be sent to your palace later.

After having a long journey

and being scared,

you'd better go back and have a good rest.

Thank you, Your Majesty.

I'm taking my leave.

Your Majesty,

there is something I need to report to you.

Go ahead.

When the assassination happened,

a young man came to my help and saved me.

I found that

he's the one you've been looking for.

Do you mean Xiaojiu?

Where is he?

He's waiting outside the hall.

Let him in!

Let Xiaojiu come in.

Let Xiaojiu come in.

Ji Heng?

Why does she look the same as Ji Heng?

Hasn't Ji Heng disappeared?

Is it possible

she also comes to the mortal realm?

Or is she here to help His Majesty go through his misfortunes?

Let Xiaojiu come in.

Let Xiaojiu come in.

Xiaojiu.

Xiaojiu.

Xiaojiu.

Kowtow to His Majesty.

Let me show my respect, Your Majesty.

Rise.

Thank you.

I've tried numerous ways in vain to find you.

Are you really called Xiaojiu?

Yes.

What's your surname?

Bai.

It means "white".

Where are you from?

Why were you disguised as a solider that day?

I live in the mountains at the border.

I happened to pass the battlefield that day

and see you get into trouble.

In a moment of desperation,

I got dressed in a soldier's clothes.

Later, I got injured,

so I went back to heal my wounds.

Qingti told me

it's you that saved his life

and protected the princess of Chong'an

when the assassination happened.

You prevented a crisis between the two states.

And you saved my life last time.

So...

What do you want as rewards?

I don't need any rewards.

No matter it's about saving you or General Ye,

it's what I should do

as a citizen of Chengyu.

You don't need any rewards?

Unbelievable.

Really.

But I'm not stingy.

I have to do something for you in return.

You can choose a high position, gold and jewelry,

big houses or beautiful women.

You can have all those things

as long as you tell me.

Think over about it.

In this case, I have a request.

Go ahead.

Can I stay here in the imperial palace?

Stay here?

Yes.

I seldom saw my parents.

At the first meeting, I felt like...

...you're my old friend.

I didn't have a chance to talk to you that day,

but I've never forgotten you

since then.

So, I want to always stay

by your side as a guard

to protect you.

Such a reward...

...is nothing compared with what you have done.

But now that you want to do that,

I'll let you stay.

You can have other rewards later.

Thank you.

Your Highness.

Go ahead.

What on earth did those assassins come for?

What do you think?

Obviously, they were there for you.

Is it possible some people in Chong'an are opposed to the intermarriage?

So they sent guys to assassinate you.

If I'm killed in Chengyu,

Chong'an would say it's Chengyu's fault

and they may go to war again.

How will those guys benefit from that?

It makes sense.

Is it possible some officials of Chong'an

are jealous of Mr. Nie

now that he has won over the emperor's trust?

So, they decided to kill you.

It's possible.

I'll send a message to Mr. Nie

and ask him to be more careful.

Your Highness,

what shall we do next?

Well,

you just get well along with

Chief Imperial Bodyguard and maids here.

Try to ask about the topography.

Draw a map

of how to get to the throne room

from Wan Yun Palace.

I'll get these things done.

Have you got any clues about the assassins?

Those who were caught killed themselves on the spot.

We can't tell their backgrounds from their bodies.

As for their weapons,

both materials and styles are common,

so the origin is still unknown.

Keep investigating the issue.

Let me know

as long as you have further information.

Got it.

No matter who's the one behind the scenes,

there will be more assassinations

now that they failed this time.

From now on,

you'll serve as Director of the Imperial Guards

and be responsible for the safety of the imperial palace,

especially Wan Yun Palace.

Your subject obeys.

Now that Xiaojiu wants to be a guard,

help him with relevant procedures.

You can trust me.

I'll get it arranged.

The door is open.

Come in, General Ye.

His Majesty specially assigned a side palace to you.

It has never happened to any guard before.

Are you happy?

Yes.

It's not only a comfortable place

but also close to His Majesty's palace.

Oh.

His Majesty asked me to promote you,

so I planned to let you be a team leader.

What do you think?

What should I do as a team leader?

Will I have much free time?

Yes.

If there is nothing special,

you just need to go on patrol several times every day.

That'd be great.

Alright.

I'm done with official business.

Now I want to express my personal gratitude.

General Ye, don't be so polite.

It's nothing precious.

Just a pot of alcohol that has been stored for 60 years.

I know it's out of the ordinary by just smelling.

In the Eight Deserts...

I may never have a chance to drink such alcohol again.

This is for your saving my life.

Come on. Cheers.

Cheers.

Pure and sweet, with an aftertaste that lingers.

It's good!

Xiaojiu, you can tell good from bad.

To be honest,

besides martial arts and military tactics,

my only hobby is alcohol.

It turns out we're kindred spirits.

I wish I could know you earlier.

I like martial arts too.

Really?

We can compare notes if there is any chance.

Cheers.

General Ye,

the scar on your face doesn't make you ugly,

but have you thought about having it removed?

His Majesty has asked imperial physicians about it.

There isn't much they can do.

I happen to know a secret prescription,

but I'm not sure

if the medicine is available or not.

It doesn't matter.

I'm a man.

A scar is no big deal.

Cheers.

Ling Xiang,

let's find out the topography

of the imperial palace

and draw a complete map soon.

Then we'll investigate

and check one by one

to know the whereabouts of Lingbi Stone.

Got it, Your Highness.

Remember.

Avoid becoming the center of attention.

I see.

It's been great to chat with you

while drinking.

Xiaojiu,

how about being my sworn brother?

General Ye,

you're a general.

As a common guard, I don't deserve to be your brother.

You must be drunk.

I'm quite sober.

I just think we have good chemistry.

Well. It's not been long since we got to know each other,

so it may be a little rude to say that.

Let's talk about it later.

But

I'm serious about asking you to be my sworn brother.

Yeah. I see.

Cheers, General Ye.

Cheers.

General Ye.

I have a question for you.

Just go ahead.

I wonder if there is a maid

or an imperial concubine

called Zhou Mengxi here.

Zhou Mengxi?

I've never heard of this name.

What is she to you?

She's one of my distant relatives.

I've never heard of her

since she entered the imperial palace years ago.

As Director of the Imperial Guards,

I have the right to

check the muster roll of all maids.

I'll help you look for her.

Let me drink a toast to you.

Cheers.

General Ye, I'll count on you.

Your Majesty,

are you going to Wan Yun Palace tonight?

Chu Wan...

She just arrived here

and was frightened on her way.

I'll go there a few days later.

Go to her palace tomorrow

and tell her that I've been tied up with official business lately.

Ask her to relax and have a good rest.

Got it.

How is it going with Xiaojiu?

Your Majesty, don't worry.

General Ye has got everything set.

Xiaojiu stays in a side palace.

It's very close to Muning Hall where you live.

Really?

Good.

I want to go out for a walk

and relax.

Let's go to his place.

What's going on? I'm having a terrible headache.

The alcohol has strong delayed effect.

It's really been stored for 60 years.

Your Majesty,

you've been in a good mood

since you found Xiaojiu.

Really?

Is it so obvious?

You've been in a good mood since you found Xiaojiu.

And you married the princess of Chong'an.

I think

little princes will be born

in the imperial palace soon.

I hope I can live longer

to take care of your kids.

At holidays and festivals,

I'll visit your parents' tombs

and tell them

about their grandchildren.

Then you have to live 100 years.

His Majesty fell into the lake!

Save His Majesty!

Save His Majesty!

Save His Majesty!

Your Majesty!

Guards!

Go have a look.

Yeah.

Hurry.

General Ye!

What's up?

His Majesty fell into the lake by accident in the imperial garden.

What?

It's said someone bumped into him.

We're searching for suspects.

Your Majesty, be careful.

Your Majesty.

Hurry up.

Your Majesty.

There is still a girl inside.

Anyone who saves her

will be heavily rewarded.

- Got it. - Quick.

Hurry.

Your Majesty,

let's wait in the pavilion.

I often went swimming in Rebirth Sea of Qingqiu.

How could I be trapped in such a small pond?

I'll go back and have a bath.

Send more guys into the lake.

She's not here.

How is it going?

General Ye.

Nobody has been found in the lake.

General Ye,

His Majesty ordered us

to look for a girl in the lake.

How on earth did His Majesty fall into the lake?

That girl bumped into His Majesty,

but we've found no trace of her.

A girl?

Comb the area.

Don't disturb the imperial harem.

Send someone to check where the maids went tonight

and if anyone suspicious showed up.

Got it.

Let's go.

Your Majesty.

I can't believe

there is such a beautiful girl in the world.

Your Majesty,

you haven't seen your concubines for a long time.

Did you mistake a maid for her?

No.

No.

I don't think so.

Your Majesty,

you must be tired.

How about

going to Imperial Concubine Wan's palace

so that she can serve you?

I'm eager to drink some ginger tea

instead of sleeping with my concubine.

Did you find her?

Your Majesty,

they'll report to you

as soon as they find her.

You'd better take care.

I see.

I'll go on reading the memorials.

Just let me know if there is any news.

I've asked people of all palaces

if anyone suspicious showed up last night,

but we've found no clue.

Captain Bai wants to see you.

Let him in.

Your Majesty, you summoned me?

Xiaojiu,

from today on,

you report to Qingti.

You're here at the right time, Xiaojiu.

His Majesty just assigned a tough task to us.

A tough task?

No matter how hard it is,

I'll try my best.

We have to find a suspicious girl for His Majesty.

Mind your language.

Qingti.

Qingti, you're way too conservative.

It's a fairy.

I fell in love with her at first sight.

I can't drive her out of my mind.

His Majesty fell in love with a girl in the mortal realm.

Has Zhou Mengxi showed up?

She's the one that made His Majesty fall into the lake.

Fall into the lake?

She has occupied all my mind.

From today on,

it's your task

to find that fairy for me.

Got it.

Got it, Your Majesty.

His Majesty is always cautious.

How could he be captivated by a suspicious girl?

Exactly.

Such things happened one after another.

Xiaojiu,

it's just been a few days since we knew each other.

I didn't expect you also care about

His Majesty so much.

You're also wondering

where we should start

to find this unidentified person, right?

Yeah.

She was too careless.

I mean...

Now that she acted secretively at night,

she couldn't be a good person.

General Ye,

we can't let His Majesty find her.

I agree with you.

You'll be an excellent guard.

I just said what came to my mind.

Oh.

Can you take me with you

if you want to look for that girl?

I want to take the opportunity to look for Zhou Mengxi.

It's a piece of cake.

Just follow me.

You saved my life.

His Majesty asked you to be my subordinate

just because he wants me to take care of you.

However, before that,

as a team leader,

you have to see our bros.

Okay.

In my opinion, that girl must be one of the enemy's spies.

A maid.

She must be a maid.

Here comes General.

- General. - General.

Why are you messing about

instead of working hard?

General,

we're betting on the identity of the girl

who fell into the lake last night.

Right.

How dare you?

How can you gossip

about His Majesty's issue?

General,

we're just worried about His Majesty.

Exactly.

What's your conclusion?

Half of us think she's one of the enemy's spies.

The other half

believes she's an ambitious maid.

Enough.

Time to stop. Brace yourself up.

He is the one

who saved His Majesty on the battlefield,

Bai Xiaojiu.

He also saved my life.

His Majesty asked him to work for me

as a team leader.

Come on.

Come meet him.

Um...

Can he do that?

He looks weak. Exactly.

General,

he just joined us.

Can he show us what he can do

so that we assign suitable tasks to him?

I'm just afraid His Majesty would blame us

if he's injured.

Right?

Yeah.

That's right.

Alright. How do you want to compete?

Unexpectedly, he's amazing.

Yeah.

Good match.

Awesome.

I didn't expect to see that.

You Imperial Guards are capable.

We're inferior to you,

but we're influential to some extent

now that we can go around in the imperial palace.

If we can be of any help,

just come to us.

That's right.

Feel free to come to us.

Exactly.

We'll try our best to help you.

There he is.

General.

General.

General.

Where have you been?

We didn't see you.

All of you are fooling around.

Get prepared

and go to work.

Got it.

Xiaojiu,

follow me.

He's a skillful archer.

Yeah.

He's capable.

Just call me Qingti in the future.

If you're so polite,

I'll have to call you my life saver.

Okay.

Xiaojiu,

I checked about Zhou Mengxi

while I checked about that unidentified girl.

But looking through the muster roll of maids in the past five years,

I didn't find her name.

Not in the past five years?

When on earth did she enter the imperial palace?

Do you have any other clue?

I looked for her for someone else,

so I don't know many details about her.

Then it's like searching for a needle in a haystack.

It'll be time-consuming.

How about this?

Please take me

whenever you need to go out.

I'll look for her as long as I work here.

I shouldn't have acted on impulse today.

I should've gone with you.

It's nothing.

From today on,

they are also your bros.

We have to be of one heart and one mind

to go through thick and thin in the future.

We have to join hands to protect His Majesty.

Got it, General Ye.
