[Palace of Duke Duan]

Mr, Jing,

Mr. Qiao is here.

Invite him in.

I’ve brought some medicine on the emperor’s order.

By the way, I also came to check on you.

How come you’re so seriously ill?

You look

very pale!

Zuo Yanxi had been treating

Mr. Jing’s illness all along.

Now Mr. Zuo is dead.

Other doctors can’t

do anything about it.

You should get more imperial doctors

to come take a look.

Mr. Jing.

How come you’re so seriously ill?

I’ll tell this to the emperor

and ask him to send the best imperial doctors

to come treat you.

Thank you in advance.

Mr. Jing.

Do we have news from Weizhou today?

We just received

a jar of pear juice from Weizhou yesterday.

There won’t be news again in such a short while.

[Safe]

Send this to Weizhou.

Yes.

[Palace of Uprightness]

Your majesty,

I checked Duke Duan’s condition

while I was there delivering the medicine.

He’s been ill since he was young.

After hearing what happened to

Miss Yuan and Lord Junior,

he coughed up blood immediately.

The way I see it,

his days are numbered.

That’s good.

If he dies from his illness,

then no one can blame me for his death.

You’re already being very lenient towards

Duke Duan and Lord Qing.

Your majesty,

I have something else to say.

Huang Shijian, the leader of Longxiang Army

has been jailed.

He’s been the leader for many years,

so he has a lot of followers.

If we kill him,

I’m afraid his followers

will become more dissatisfied with you.

Even if

you replace all of them

with your own men,

they can still

cause trouble.

My imperial guards

can only take orders from me.

Find out all of his followers.

Arrest them or kill them

as you see fit.

Yes.

My love,

you came to

bring soup to me again.

I feel much more energetic

after drinking your soup.

If you’re healthy,

my efforts to cook soup

for you every day will be worth it.

Bring me the silver spoon.

Don’t you even trust me, Your majesty?

You’re hurting my feelings.

I feel very bad.

My love,

don’ take it to heart.

The Directorate of Astronomy and Calendar said

there had been some strange signs in the sky.

So I have to be more careful.

Don’t overthink things.

It’s not because

I don’t trust you.

I treated you well.

Why did you do this to me?

Why?

You’re utterly devoid of conscience,

and you’ve committed all manner of crimes.

You’re unworthy of being the emperor.

Who gave you the right

to kill her?

I thought she treated me wholeheartedly.

It turns out

she was also playing a double game.

Is there a person

who’s treating me sincerely in this world?

[Palace of Duke Duan]

Xiaohan is dead.

What did you say?

Xiaohan failed to assassinate Lord Ye.

Lord Ye issued an order

to bury her as a commoner.

Xiaohan made a lot of preparations for the task.

Lord Ye is suspicious,

but he was not acting cautious towards Xiaohan.

I heard the Directorate of Astronomy and Calendar

said there had been strange signs in the sky.

So Lord Ye is very vigilant.

He even jailed Huang Shijian.

The leader of the Longxiang Army,

Huang Shijian?

Right.

Now the Longxiang Army is a mess.

All the high-ranking officers are in danger.

Because of the assassination,

Lord Ye has become more suspicious.

He arrested a lot of ministers

who impeached him before.

Recently,

all the ministers were having a hard time.

The Directorate of Astronomy and Calendar wouldn’t

target Huang Shijian for no reason.

If they want to find a scapegoat

to justify the strange signs in the sky,

either Lord Qing or I can be a better choice.

Who will benefit the most from this?

Qiao Li?

After Lord Ye ascended the throne,

Qiao Li was promoted to the position

of chancellor of the Yong State.

But he doesn’t have a strong background.

A lot of ministers are not convinced.

So,

he wants to eliminate his enemies

and strengthen his position.

Qiao Li came to test you before.

He saw your bad condition with his own eyes,

so he’ll not see you as a threat.

Do you have connections

in the Longxiang Army?

What?

Since someone has stirred up chaos in the court,

we may take advantage of this

and make some risky moves.

In the court?

It’s probably not enough.

Isn’t this the jade pendent that Auntie gave you?

Mr. Jing, are you referring to

the fact that Miss Mianwan

hurt you before?

Yuan never hurt me.

She’s leading a simple life,

and she always treats people with kindness.

The most fearsome people in this world

are those who are swallowed up by power

and have too much greed in their hearts.

You mean Lord Ye?

Or?

Heng,

send a message to the Ji State.

The Ji State?

[Palace of Virtue]

[Tao Te Ching]

Wei Shun,

have you got

any news from the Yong State?

My lord,

not much has changed in the Yong State.

The new emperor

is addicted to wine and women,

and is remiss in attending to state affairs.

He’s very suspicious,

and his mood constantly changes.

Many ministers have been

put in prison

or demoted by him.

The rest of them all act with caution,

and dare not to disobey him.

How cocky!

I trained Ci myself.

Does he think

Ci’s a good-for-nothing?

I heard that

Mr. Jing’s health

has been deteriorating.

What a pity.

Lord Zhao,

General Li has arrived.

Let him in.

Yes.

My respect to you,

My lord.

Li Honggui,

you’ve suggested several times that we should

ally with Ji to attack Yong.

Yes.

But it seems

you didn’t like my suggestion.

Right.

But today,

I want to hear it again.

These are ominous signs!

Yes! Right!

What on earth is going on?

Right!

Something is wrong!

Something is wrong!

It’s strange!

Very strange!

His majesty arrives!

Your majesty!

You may rise.

Why do you want to

see me at midnight?

Your majesty,

recently, the Northern Star dimmed,

and a comet flew through the Big Dipper.

Since the winter begins,

it’s been raining heavily.

The weather is extremely unusual.

So people in the capital are very disturbed.

Just for this?

The Directorate of Astronomy and Calendar

have already offered me a solution to that.

Then how will they explain the fact that

a thunderbolt

directly struck down

on the tomb of the late emperor tonight

and caused it to collapse?

What will they make of that?

That’s probably because

the craftsmen failed in their duty.

Just replace them with some other people.

But now it’s the winter.

It’s deep into the winter.

But thunder strikes again and again.

This is abnormal.

Right!

Something is wrong!

Something is wrong!

It’s strange!

It’s abnormal!

Your majesty,

Duke Duan wants to see you.

He said he can explain the abnormal weather.

Isn’t he seriously ill?

Seems he’s recovered.

Let him in.

My respect to you, Lord Ye.

Duke Duan,

what did you call me?

Are you thinking clearly?

Don’t you know

I’ve inherited the throne,

and now I’m the emperor of the Yong State?

Someone!

Duke Duan disrespects the emperor.

Arrest him now!

Wait!

Now seeing the ominous signs,

you still don’t want to reflect upon your acts?

I spared your life.

But you’re growing too big for your boots.

Don’t you know what place this is?

You want to court death

in front of these ministers,

then don’t blame me for being ruthless.

I want to ask you some questions

in front of these senior ministers,

to lay bare the truth

and do justice to the late emperor.

What nonsense are you talking about?

You claimed it’s the late emperor’s will

that you inherit the throne.

But recently,

I got another instruction written by the emperor

before he died.

Seems it’s different

from what you claimed.

Nonsense!

I was with the late emperor

before he died.

He never wrote an instruction.

Of course you’d think

he didn’t write anything.

Because you controlled the late emperor.

You also controlled the Dragon and Tiger Army,

and sent Feng Ting to attack the Palace of Rules.

The late emperor was getting old.

He was physically weak,

and was detained by you after his defeat.

Madam Yuan and Lord Bo,

who were also in the royal palace at the time,

also fell into your hands.

You think everything is in your control.

But probably you wouldn’t expect that

Lord Bo, who witnessed your evildoing, was saved,

and is currently recuperating.

He’ll be able to come back soon

and demand justice for him and the late emperor.

Duke Duan,

are you out of your mind?

How can you say such treacherous words?

Someone!

Take him!

Flog him to death now!

Wait!

Please let Duke Duan finish his words.

It’s a very important matter.

Please

give Duke Duan a chance to speak.

We should let him finish what he has to say.

You!

You’re all colluding

with Duke Duan, right?

Raising doubts about the abnormal weather

is also part of your plan, right?

It concerns the death of Father.

We should get to the bottom of it.

If Duke Duan is trying to frame you

and humiliate you,

I’ll hack him to pieces

personally.

Then you can

get prepared for that.

If there was an instruction,

you’d use it to testify against me

before I ascended the throne.

Because back then,

no one was able to

understand the meaning

those incomplete words

are trying to convey.

The late emperor captured new land for Yong,

and was hailed as a hero.

But he didn’t expect

he’d be detained by his own son.

He coughed up blood and fell seriously ill

out of anger.

Before he died,

he wrote his last

instruction

with his blood.

Fu Xiaohan tried to rescue him.

But it was already too late

when she snuck in.

The late emperor had already died,

leaving some pieces of paper

scattering on the floor.

Xiaohan didn’t know what they mean,

so she collected those pieces of paper

and sent them to me.

Those words were not complete.

They’re totally

unrecognizable.

It took me quite a while

to put the pieces together

and get the answer.

[Lord Ye Betrayed]

[Lord Ye Betrayed Me]

The late emperor was diligent.

All of you

should know

his handwriting.

Maybe you can check

if this is the handwriting of him.

Based on my judgment,

this is indeed the late emperor’s handwriting.

They look very similar.

Indeed.

Right.

It’s the handwriting of the late emperor.

You want to frame me

with several pieces of paper?

So what if the handwriting looks similar?

It’s so easy to imitate his handwriting.

Since you feel wronged,

then please tell us

where those servants of the late emperor are,

for example, Xue Cai.

You said you sent them back

to their hometowns.

They must’ve attended to the late emperor.

So they can testify to this.

Since when did you have the right

to interfere with my decision?

Someone!

Kill the rebel Jing Ci now!

Do it now!

You!

The leader of the Dragon and Tiger Army, Han Qing

killed people willfully

in the brothel

and was captured by Lord Qing’s subordinates.

Now the Dragon and Tiger Army

doesn’t have a leader.

The soldiers of the Dragon and Tiger Army here

were actually soldiers of

the Longxiang Army.

Killed people in the brothel?

This is a conspiracy.

You collude with the Longxiang Army

to stage a rebellion, right?

The Longxiang Army won’t support

a treacherous emperor

that usurped the throne

by pulling dirty tricks.

You want to frame me?

In your dreams!

That’s it for today.

I’ll get back at you another time.

Brother,

since Duke Duan has showed us the evidence,

can you please tell me

if you really are the one that killed Father?

If I say no,

you’ll speak up for

this outsider surnamed Jing, right?

Brother,

I just want to know the truth.

No!

Make way for his majesty!

Lord Ye,

let go of Lord Qing.

Jing Ci,

don’t pretend you care about him.

Do you actually want me to release him

or kill him?

Only a person as stupid as Lord Qing

would think

he can join hands with you

to usurp my throne.

In my opinion,

Lord Qing

is just a pawn in your game.

You actually wish

I could kill him instantly.

And then you can also get rid of me

and claim you’re a prince.

Am I right?

Brother,

Ci’s not such kind of person.

How do you know he’s not?

You want me to let go of you?

It’s easy.

Let him

be the hostage.

As long as he’s willing to do that,

I’ll then believe

he doesn’t have an ulterior motive,

and that he’s not using you.

Brother,

you arranged soldiers outside the palace?

I’ve dispatched some elite troops

to station outside the palace.

Once they receive the signal,

they’ll come to my rescue.

These few soldiers of yours will amount to nothing

compared with my massive troops.

Let them move aside now!

Lord Qing!

Since you think so highly of me,

then please release Lord Qing,

and let me be your hostage,

is that okay?

Alright.

If we have Duke Duan,

it doesn’t matter if I release Lord Qing.

That’s a deal.

Ci.

Ci.

Jing Ci,

do you know that

all those who went against me

were killed?

Where did you get the courage

to fight against me?

It’s the late emperor.

I don’t want him to die with a grievance.

You didn’t admit he’s your father,

and now you want to avenge him?

It’s true that I didn’t see him as my father.

But after I returned to the Yong State,

he fulfilled his duties as a father,

so I should fulfill my duties as a son.

Kill!

Lord Qing, bad news.

The imperial guards

have broken into the royal palace!

What did I say just now?

Jing Ci,

it’s game over for you.

What are you still waiting for?

Are you hoping that these imperial guards

will also change sides

and rescue all of you?

The die is cast.

Don’t even dream about it!

Someone!

Someone!

Come and help the emperor!

Someone!

Help the emperor!

Someone!

Lu,

I’m going to

take revenge for you now!

Let’s meet Lord Qing and Duke Duan first.

Since we escaped death,

it’s time for us

to settle old scores with Lord Ye.

Lord Qing,

Mr. Zhao,

Lord Junior has intercepted

the imperial guards.

They’re in the royal palace now.

Mu Beiyan?

Isn’t he dead?

Your majesty,

I saw him jump off the cliff

with my own eyes.

They should be dead.

Even if they’re alive,

where would they get these soldiers?

The soldiers they’re leading

are from Weizhou.

[Safe]

Send this to Weizhou.

[Safe]

They escaped by jumping off the cliff.

They should’ve arrived in Weizhou successfully.

Weizhou?

Yang Shihou?

How did they enter the city?

Lord Ye,

you’re utterly heartless,

and you did every sort of evil thing.

The generals guarding the city gate

let the soldiers from Weizhou

enter the city without resisting.

You knew they’d come all along?

It’s you and Lord Qing

that let them open the city gate!

Stop your evildoing!

The late emperor in Heaven

would want to see you repent

sincerely.

In your dreams.

You’re just losers

that will kiss my feet and beg for my mercy.

Why would I repent?

Even if I lose,

even if I die,

I won’t let you live a good life.

Ci, are you okay?

Now you’ve come,

nothing will happen to me.

Have you made a decision?

Do you really want to

serve this heartless lunatic?

Brother,

mend your ways.

Mend my ways?

Did I do anything wrong?

I won’t repent.

Lord Ye,

it’s time for you

to pay your debts.

You want to kill me?

All of you want to kill me?

Stop dreaming!

I’ve done

the best I could!

And I’ve

reached the pinnacle of power!

I got everything I wanted.

And my ending

will be my decision to make!

Brother.

That’s how it came to an end?

Can I say

I’ve avenged my father?

I’ve avenged

my mother.

I’ve avenged

my father.

But he’s my brother after all.

Why was he being so unwise?

And why did he do so many wrong things?

Everyone has desires, and will probably

be treated unfairly at some point.

But the process of seeking justice for themselves

should never be

a process of

killing other people.

Actually, I want to say,

I’ve...

I’ve also

avenged my father.

The late emperor always hoped that

I could call him Father.

But every time when I tried,

I failed to say that word out.

I always thought

there’s still a long journey ahead of us,

and we’ll have many opportunities

to chat sitting around the furnace

and laugh together while playing Go...

Ci,

remember,

you’re not doing this for yourself,

your friends and relatives

also care about you.

Even it’s for your loved ones,

you should

take better care

of yourself.

And restore the broken

father-son relationship.

Look at you!

You brat!

What are you doing?

Dad!

Your father,

my mother

and Beiyan’s father

will know that we love them.

Now they’re in Heaven.

But they’d want to see us

live a peaceful and happy life.

Right.

My daughter

is always the most beautiful girl in my eyes.

Mom.

I’m here.

I’m here.

It’s my fault.

I didn’t take good care of you,

and let you suffer so much.

After the emperor passed away,

the treacherous Lord Ye

caused today’s tragedy

and harmed the safety of the state.

Now our state needs a new emperor.

Lord Qing

is the eldest among all the princes

that are alive.

And he’s known for his virtuousness.

I, hereby

ask Lord Qing to ascend the throne

and lead us to rectify the court regulations

and bring peace and prosperity

to the Yong State.

Ci.

We ask Lord Qing to ascend the throne!

We ask Lord Qing to ascend the throne!

We ask Lord Qing to ascend the throne!

Mr. Jing.

You’re back?

Here’s a letter from Miss Qingli.

After receiving your letter,

Miss Qingli immediately

interrogated Yanrong

and finally figured out the truth.

It’s just as you predicted.

You worked hard.

Go and have a rest.

Yes.

Yuan,

it’s cold outside.

Let’s go inside and drink something.

Alright.

If you still don’t go inside,

the chicken soup will get cold.

You cooked it?

Yes.

I used to carry a pouch with me.

I could put silver and spices inside.

It was very convenient.

Then you can buy several more.

It’s nothing valuable anyway.

I somehow don’t like

the ones bought from outside.

Then have people embroider some.

I don’t like the mandarin ducks they embroider.

Because they don’t look like ducks?

Yes.

They don’t look like ducks.

So they don’t look like mandarin ducks.

That means they actually look like mandarin ducks.

I’d been using a pouch with ducks for too long,

I somehow feel that ducks are actually

the most eye-pleasing mandarin ducks.

Embroider a pouch with mandarin ducks for me,

will you?

You want me to embroider a pouch for you,

what will you give me in exchange?

What can I give you in exchange?

You don’t want to give me anything,

yet you want me to embroider a pouch for you.

Don’t even think about it.

When you woke up back then,

I said that

I’m yours,

and all the things in this palace

are also yours.

You tell me,

what can I give you in exchange?

Yuan.

Yuan.
