The Love Lasts Two Minds

Episode 20

[Qinhe County Government]

Yuan.

Stop pacing up and down.

You make me feel

dizzy.

It’s such a headache.

Who were

those troublemakers

with their little fingers

removed?

Elder Princess,

Xiaoyu,

Lord He,

the unidentified master and four servants.

What is

the relationship among them?

The master and four servants came from the capital

and were targeted by these people.

Probably

they were officials assigned to local governments.

I let him look into bulletins of the past few months

to find some clues.

Sir.

Do you find anything?

I found it! I found it!

The monthly bulletins

record the imperial edicts

and the appointment of key officials.

If the identity of victims is important enough,

they may be

recorded in bulletins.

Right.

If the victims can be identified,

we may know a thing or two about the truth.

[Bulletin]

Sheriff Jing.

What did you find?

Before Lord Bo arrived at Qinhe County,

did the court

send here an official named He Hong,

the Secretary of Water?

You’re right.

There was a Secretary surnamed He.

He arrived four months ago.

He was decisive and resolute.

The flood in Qinhe used to be

jointly managed by Qinhe and nearby counties.

After Secretory He takes office,

he doesn’t allow the county officials like us

to inspect the river project at all.

He said spies from Ji State might come

and make troubles.

By the way,

since

Lord Bo came,

Secretary He has disappeared.

Could

the victim

be him?

It doesn’t make sense.

Lord Bo arrived in Qinhe two months ago,

yet the victims were killed

three or four months ago.

Secretary of Water is a high-ranking official.

Accordingly he was supposed to

be accompanied by a coachman,

two guards

and a steward.

One master and four servants.

It is exactly the number of the dead.

The time when Secretary He arrived in Qinhe was

almost the time when the victims were killed.

No.

Mr. He was still inspecting

the river project two months ago.

Are you sure

that Mr. He

was the Secretary

assigned by the court?

Wasn’t he?

That He Hong in office is fake.

The place where we found the dead

was at the only way to Qinhe.

The killer killed He Hong

and replaced him as the Secretary

of Water.

After two months,

Lord Bo was ordered to supervise the water project.

Both He Hong and Lord Bo came from the capital.

They might know each other.

Fake He Hong was afraid to be recognized and exposed,

so he fled

and didn’t appear again.

I can’t agree more.

I will

send men to look for the fake He Hong right now.

Sheriff Jing.

What do you think?

If that fake He Hong can be found,

the case can be solved very soon.

I’m going to arrange it.

Can we

really

find the fake He Hong?

Go to the river at Qinhe now.

Investigate

what the Secretary was up to

after he took office.

Yes.

You suspect

it isn’t purely a case about official replacement

but also has other conspiracies?

The supervision of the river project

isn’t easy.

They plotted

and killed a high-ranking official.

Being a fake official

for two months couldn’t be their aim.

During these two months,

the fake He Hong

must have done something weird.

Mr. Jing.

How about we go back to the capital?

Qinhe is a small place,

but has so many issues.

Few guards

are in this county government.

If something happens to you,

how...

how can I explain it to Lord Zhao

and Lady Zesheng?

Aunt.

You just need to explain things to me.

Yes.

Were the corpses of He Hong and others

found?

Yes.

The rainstorm destroyed the place

where corpses were hid.

The governor of Qinhe

has guessed

the victim could be He Hong.

He is

asking around

for He Hong’s whereabouts.

Our He Hong has come back

long ago.

They cannot find him.

Master, you are insightful.

They won’t find any evidence.

Li Fei is a stupid coward.

He isn’t able to find it out so soon.

Qinhe is a small county,

but the officials are smart.

I guess

Jing Ci must be behind it.

We tried several times

but he managed to flee.

His martial arts and intelligence

shouldn’t be underestimated.

We are at Qinhe.

If it happened in the capital,

he would be a handful.

What should we do, master?

Even if I can let him off,

I don’t think he will.

Now that he knows He Hong is fake,

he may also figure out

the motive of

the fake He Hong.

If he continues the investigation,

it will...

I’ll send men to the county government

and keep an eye on him.

Master.

Let me do it.

You?

You’ve already exposed.

You are the suspect they want

the most now.

If you are caught,

more troubles will come.

You’d better not.

Master, I’m going to

prepare wine and dishes for you.

Fine.

Mr. Jing. I found it out.

That unidentified He Hong

did the routine work,

and also built a channel in the middle of river

and led the water to other places.

channel?

Where?

Here.

[Qinhe Yingshui Army of Kuang State]

Could it be

like this?

Mr. Jing, do you figure it out?

Come.

Let’s have a look at the scene.

[Qinhe Yingshui Army of Kuang State Capital]

Mr. Jing.

This is the newly built channel.

It’s said

to be used for the irrigation downstream.

Mr. Jing.

Any problem?

The terrain here is low-lying.

Water is sufficient.

It is unnecessary

for the irrigation.

But the tributary which this channel leads to

straightly reaches Yingshui.

Yingshui?

So what?

The army of Kuang State

is stationed around Yingshui.

That is to say,

if Kuang State rebels,

it can transport army

straightly to Qinhe by water.

Qinhe is close to the capital.

It threatens the foundation of Yong State.

Sheriff Jing.

Why is there no one in the room today?

Did they go out?

The river map of Qinhe?

He got a clue.

Why didn’t he tell me?

He went there alone.

Such a disloyal friend.

My lady, where are you going?

I’m going to him.

We deal with the case together.

Don’t try to leave me alone.

Mr. Jing.

You suspect that the culprit behind the case

doesn’t aim at the victims

but at the court?

I’m not suspecting.

It is determined.

Be careful.

Zhiwan. Watch out!

Why are you here?

Let me help you.

You are the landlady.

Who are you?

What’s your relationship with Zuo Yanxi?

Did he

tell you to run away last time?

Who is Zuo Yanxi?

I don’t know.

Jiang Tan.

Let’s go.

Xiaohuai, chase...

Yuan.

[Qinhe County Government]

My lady. How are you?

Lu. Call a doctor here.

Stinking lass.

She chases you shamelessly.

What’s wrong with her again?

Shut up.

Lord.

I’m sorry.

I can’t diagnose

what poison it is.

Hey.

Don’t leave, doctor.

Go.

Find other doctors here.

We’ve called all doctors

at Qinhe.

None of them know what

the poison is.

Go to the nearby counties.

Go to the capital.

Find me the best doctor

here.

If only Mr. Zuo were here.

He is a skilled one.

He must have a way.

I’ve prepared

two detox pills for you.

They can’t control every poison,

but they will be effective

in many cases.

Bring the pills

which Mr. Zuo gave to me.

Mr. Jing.

They are for you.

It isn’t sure if it will effect on Yuan.

If she

takes them, what about you?

Bring them here now.

Yes.

Mianwan.

You will be fine.

You will be fine.

Heng.

Is that lass dead?

Aunt.

Don’t expect her to die.

Mr. Jing is

going crazy.

He wants Yuan

to take his pills.

What?

Water.

Yuan.

Have some water.

Be good.

Yuan.

Mianwan.

Perhaps

I am wrong.

Since childhood,

you have seen me

as the kindest person to you.

So have I.

Because of what happened

between us in the past,

I have been getting away from you.

I pretended not to care about you.

I thought

I could settle everything

and protect you all the lifetime.

Now I find I can’t make it at all.

I helplessly saw you fell

in front of me.

Please wake up. Alright?

You come to me

with all your courage.

I have no courage

to push you away anymore.

As long as you can wake up,

I won’t get away.

I will abandon the hatred in the past

and the worries about future.

We will

stay with each other quietly

like this

and never separate.

Alright?

Whether you are Yuan

or Mianwan,

you are the one

I choose to love this life.

Duke Duan is alert

and highly skilled.

His bodyguards

and Yuan Qinhe who comes later

are all capable.

We...

We failed again.

Jing Ci

impresses me again and again.

I thought he was just a coward waiting to die,

and meant to give him a hand.

I never thought he could ruin my plans,

hurt my men,

and could be still safe and sound.

We are incapable.

Master, please punish us.

I was too careless.

I thought Lord Bo was the toughest to deal with.

Who knew Jing Ci showed up all of a sudden?

Master.

Duke Duan is already aware of

the newly excavated channel.

He must have guessed our motive.

I’m afraid

he will suspect us soon.

I know what to do.

Don’t worry.

Rise.

Yes.

Yes.

Your injury is serious.

Rest for a few days.

Thanks for your care, master.

Master.

When we fought today,

Yuan suspected that Zuo Yanxi

colluded with Jiang Tan.

Zuo Yanxi?

We found that

he is probably the head of Feilian Squad.

If it is true, Zuo Yanxi

should have nothing to do with Jiang Tan.

I don’t think so.

Finally,

we got something interesting.

[I wish I could be with Jing Ci forever and never separate]

I don’t want to marry Li Yuan.

Will you really

marry me away to others?

Let’s go back to the place where we belong.

Alright?

Mr. Jing.

Jing Ci.

I won’t.

Don’t! Don’t!

Jing Ci.

Yuan.

- Jing Ci. - Yuan. Yuan.

I’m here.

I’m here. Don’t be afraid.

I won’t marry him.

I won’t!

I won’t!

Jing Ci. I won’t marry him.

- Fine. - I won’t.

OK.

I won’t.

I won’t marry you to others.

Mianwan.

I will always keep you company.

Always.

Jing Ci.

I am not Mianwan.

I am Yuan.

Not Jing Ci.

It’s Zhiwan.

No.

Jing Ci or Zhiwan?

Jing Ci. Jing Ci.

Jing Ci.

OK.

Any name will do.

You can call me

Ci.

Ci.

Good.

Ci.

Ci.

Zhiwan.

It seems

you were in my dream.

The toxin is removed finally.

Yuan.

You must recover soon.

Sheriff Jing.

You mean

the bracken brought back by Xiaohuai

was from the hideout of the suspects?

Yes.

Before Yuan fainted,

she asked Xiaohuai to chase.

The killer was not as fast

as Xiaohuai.

Probably Xiaohuai chased him to his hideout.

Are you sure

the assassin who tried to kill you

murdered He Hong?

Among the assassins,

one man and a woman were extremely skilled.

Yuan lifted

the veil of the woman,

who is

being wanted by us,

the landlady of the restaurant,

Jiang.

The murderer who killed Fu Manqing

and Xiaoyu?

The man used a sword.

His moves were swift and powerful.

His strikes

were similar to the killer

of He Hong.

When we

found out

the channel built by fake He Hong was abnormal,

these assassins showed up.

It means

the direction of my investigation is right.

They decided to kill me

to stop the investigation.

What is the direction of investigation?

They tried to

connect the canal and waterway of Yingshui

for trade

and troop transport,

so that 50,000 soldiers

can gather around the capital

within three days.

Mr. Li.

Mr. Li.

I’m fine.

I have a tummy ache last night

and went to the toilet several times.

My legs feel week.

Sheriff Jing.

You mean that Jiang, who killed Xiaoyu,

Fu Manqing

was with the guys who killed He Hong?

They tend to remove little fingers?

Not them

who tend to remove little fingers,

but the emperor’s secret guards

who tend to do that.

If the senior official

keeps investigating it according to the clue

of removed fingers,

it may come into the emperor.

They want to frame the emperor.

Frame?

Mr. Li.

I went to toilet too many times.

I can’t stand up.

Sheriff Jing.

The bracken is a common herb

growing in the damp places.

Although Xiaohuai took it back,

we still can’t determine

the hideout of the killer.

The stem

of the bracken is golden.

It’s the rare golden-stem bracken

which only grows

at Du Garden

in Qinhe.

Du Garden?

Du Garden was built

by Prime Minister Du in the previous dynasty.

It’s been abandoned.

How come there is golden-stem bracken?

Bracken can treat burns.

The effect of golden-stem bracken

is ten times as that of ordinary one.

It only grows in mountains in the south.

I read the edicts during Emperor Zhaozong,

who

ever gave Prime Minister Du golden-stem Bracken

and asked him to plant it in the garden

so that it can be used at any time.

This herb is highly reproductive.

Although Du Garden was abandoned,

the golden-stem bracken still grows there in ruins.

Therefore,

the culprit of these cases

is hiding in the abandoned Du Garden.

Mr. Li.

Will you go with me

to arrest the culprit?

Of course I will.

I am the official here

responsible for the people.

How can I tolerate these villains?

His name

was also Jing Ci in my dream.

He let me call him Ci.

He seems to be Jing Ci for real.

What happened

between us in the past?

With him,

I couldn’t

have played with

so many caterpillars.

Before Sheriff Jing left,

he said she’s out of danger.

It has been long.

How come she hasn’t waken up?

My lady.

My lady. Are you awake?

What did you say?

Sheriff Jing left?

Xiaohuai took back a clue.

He and Mr. Li

went to capture the criminals with constables.

Why

didn’t he tell me?

My lady.

Slowly.

You are

badly sick.

How can you capture criminals?

Come on.

Sit.

Don’t worry.

Sheriff Jing

went to intercept the criminals.

Even Heng and Zhixia

went with him.

Rest assured.

I am weak

because I rest too much.

I need some exercise.

Exercise?

You were like a dead

when you came back yesterday.

You have no idea

how Sheriff Jing was worried about you.

As if you died,

he would kill himself as well.

Really?

Yes.

My lady.

Sheriff Jing

seems to ignore you usually.

But once anything happens to you,

he gets very nervous.

Obviously you are

in his heart.

Ci.

Ci.

I believe it.

By the way,

I’m wondering

if they find the hideout

of the criminals.

Hurry up.

Lu.

Bring me the soup.

I’ll eat and drink

to get myself recovered.

I need to protect Ci.

How come he is Ci now?

He let me call him Ci.

Whatever.

Whether Ci

or Zhiwan,

anyway,

he is the one I choose

to love this life.

There are weeds and trees around.

It doesn’t look like a hideout.

This is their base.

Heng. Let’s go inside first.

Master.

Somehow, Duck Duan has found here.

This place is besieged.

What?

Mr. Jing.

It’s an dead end there.

Let’s go.

Secret color porcelain.

Those cases

were committed by them indeed.

Mr. Jing.

Are you alright?

Are you hurt?

Rest assured, aunt.

I’m fine.

Sheriff Jing.

What happened inside?

They escaped.

They activated the trap

and destroyed the chamber.

The potential evidences were destroyed.

Mr. Li.

They killed themselves by taking poison.

But...

The criminals inside fled.

Can we capture them?

It’s difficult.

It may not be Qinhe’s matter anymore.

Not Qinhe’s matter? But...

For Qinhe,

it is over.

But for the capital,

everything has just begun.

Lu.

What’s wrong?

How is Yuan?

She waked,

and looked for you.

I told her you went to catch the criminals.

She was in a hurry to find you,

but...

she fainted again.

Other than bewitching Mr. Jing,

what else can she do?

Heng.

What are you waiting for?

Me?

What am I supposed to do?

Your aunt

gets insane

again.

Hurry and take her back for medicine.

She’s barking around

like a mad dog.

If she makes trouble,

will you take the responsibility?

You stinking lass.

Aunt.

Forget it.

Mr. Jing likes Yuan.

Clear.

We have been

engaging in Qinhe for years.

Unexpectedly, it was ruined

by Jing Ci.
