Oh My General

You've been confined to your home since childhood.

You even haven't gone beyond the gates of the capital.

What kind of a colorful world lies out there?

Do you know?

It's a rare chance that I can go out to travel aboveboard.

You're right, royal uncle.

I promise you I'll complete the mission!

After the flood,

bandits often come out to make trouble.

They rob grains now and there.

If you meet them,

I'm afraid you'll lose your life.

CHEDIGUAN Let's go check it out.

I think his majesty is taking advantage of the disaster relief

to investigate my real strength.

And control my movements by the way.

General.

Duke Nanping is timid and lazy. Desires money and sex.

He comes to Xiushui just to make more money.

And snatch beauties by the way.

After I spread such a message,

the rumor goes harsher and harsher.

Now people are all asking about the commissioner's arrival time.

Stop making reports to his majesty.

Instead, they focus on hiding their unmarried daughters away.

In case that the ruttish duke might see them.

Well done!

Episode 29

I have money!

During the disaster, having one more day or one more hour

to live is precious enough.

How could they care about the rest?

Give me some! Manager, hurry up!

Bro, is this the only grain depot in Xiushui Province?

Don't mention it.

How would those vile businessmen care about our lives?

They all have hoarded the grains. And sell it to us at a high price when we're starving.

The magistrate of Xiushui doesn't stop that?

No, never!

We civilians are so powerless.

No matter how indignant we are,

we dare not say no to such a conduct!

Minister Hai.

After we settle down,

open a porridge stall for these victims as soon as possible.

Yes, my lord.

Give me some!

Hurry!

My lord. My lord.

Lord Zhang is waiting for us outside the city gate.

Okay. Let's go.

Help me, my lord.

Help me. Give me something to eat.

Give me something to eat.

Come here.

My lord. My lady.

Here we are.

Here we are.

Lord Yu.

The official warehouse is ready.

Your men are on the way there.

The number is too large.

They can only find a place to rest by themselves.

Let me help you settle down first.

That's good.

Thank you, then.

This way, please.

Lord Yu.

This is the yard that I found for you.

Your family must be extremely wealthy.

You're used to life in the capital.

Now you come to our countryside all of a sudden.

You must haven't adapt to this rough place?

Not at all.

This yard is quiet, elegant and unique.

I guess your father must be a literate and elegant man.

Now it's a special period.

Father shares weal and woe with civilians.

Leads a simple life.

My family are businessmen for generations.

Never short of money.

It's just...

We hate those corrupt officials the most.

But admire clean officials who truly care about the people.

Father always stays away from corruption and bribery. Living a simple life

devote himself to serve the people.

Your father is a good official.

It's late. I gotta rest early.

I'll discuss with you about soup kitchens tomorrow.

Okay.

Bye, then.

Look at you.

What wicked idea is in your head?

How could you know that?

Only a wife knows her husband the best.

Which part of you am I not well aware of?

Shameless.

You took me wrong.

I mean, your mind.

Cut the crap.

Look, this cup is from Ru Chinaware.

An antique from the late dynasty.

It's worth a hundred of gold.

If it's in our home, no problem.

But it's really hard to get one here.

Definitely not something that a clean official can afford.

Look at the stones in the yard.

All rare stones.

Originate from the land of stones, Jiangbei Province.

A plaything popular among intellectuals and artists.

Those stones are huge and expensive.

Plus the manpower and material resources costed in transportation.

Can be even more expensive.

There are also expensive stones and cheap ones?

Yujin.

You have entered the yard just for a while. How could you get so much detailed information?

So awesome!

You bet.

There are a variety of stones.

Rare stones. Strange stones.

Exotic stones. Aragonites. Ornament stones.

All are playthings loved by the wealthy idlers and the elegant.

Grand Preceptor Liu has a huge Changhua Stone in his home.

It's said that it was transported a thousand miles away from Zhejiang.

I heard the transportation took place in a cold winter.

It costed so much human resources to move it into capital Dongjing.

But the narrow alley stopped it from being moved back home.

So Grand Preceptor Liu bought a dozen of houses in the neighborhood.

Tore them down.

To move the stone into his home.

What a waste of manpower and money! Isn't it?

Look, Zhang Wude is just a provincial magistrate.

But he has a hobby that rivals the Grand Preceptor's.

Living in a luxury house, playing with a huge stone.

Didn't he make it from fleecing the people?

Look.

When shall we bring this provincial governor to justice?

Why the rush?

Give me some time.

Let me think further.

Okay.

If he's found corrupt or bribe-taking,

we'll show our identifies directly, dismiss him from his post,

send him back to the capital for punishment.

Easy, honey.

Zhang Wude knows how to conceal his money

and be clean on the surface.

It means that he must be a smart man.

I guess there won't be much evidence left.

I'm an imperial commissioner of disaster relief.

If I just recall his uniform, depose him and then flog him,

it'll be too boring!

Now that he wants to play,

I'll play along with him till the end!

To our heart's content!

Okay. Take your time to think.

I'll go out to check the surroundings.

Off you go.

Bye.

The disaster relief begins.

Duke Nanping, please give us assignments.

You two must be tired from the long trip.

Hurry, take a seat.

Yes, my lord.

To share the burden for my lord. This doesn't feel tiring at all.

The disaster relief is very important.

It's a time-consuming drudgery.

So our ways of working allow no rush or sham.

My lord.

I've looked around outside.

Haven't found the mountain spring water you want.

Idiot.

The mountain spring water works the best to serve tea.

If there isn't any, use the well water.

Go find some well water nearby.

It's just been a while since we left the capital.

Yet you've become a moron?

This imperial commissioner knows nothing

but eating, drinking and playing.

How could we roll out the job?

Tell me. The ballrooms, wine houses and red light districts

in Xiushui Province.

Are they open now?

My lord, we came here to do disaster relief.

Yet you're still thinking about girls?

My lord.

Girls here are of poor quality.

A far cry from those in our capital Dongjing.

How about this, after we go back,

we'll find you girls to appreciate.

Okay?

This place produces beauties since ancient times.

People here say that girls in Yingti House are quite good.

And very cheap. -If my lord has the interest... -What are you talking about?

Many of the newcomers were sold into there by their parents

who are starving flood victims.

So pathetic.

It's good that they're open for business.

You two go enjoy yourselves there these days.

Pick the most high-class and the most famous brothels.

My lord.

Are you gonna take us, so many officials,

to have a fling in the brothels?

My lord.

Please think about his majesty's expectations.

Think about those civilians who're suffering so much in Jiangbei.

Forget about such a fatuous conduct

as stepping into brothels during the disaster relief!

Minister Hai, please calm down.

Hear me out.

Think.

Those sold into the brothels

are children of those living in the poorest

and the most seriously stricken areas.

While those who can afford the entertainment

are idiots from rich families in Xiushui Province.

It's most convenient for men to communicate

when they have a good time in brothels together.

You guys disguise as guests to go to the brothels.

Talk with beauties, curry favor with the rich.

Figure out the real situation of the flood in Xiushui Province.

Also, to know what Zhang Wude have done.

The more detailed, the better.

I see.

My lord, you want us to find some girls

to get some information.

My lord.

This is really a wise idea!

My lord, this idea is really a unique shortcut.

It's really amazing!

Just go there with no worry.

Pass the buck to me if there's any problem.

I'll be held responsible no matter how huge the thing is.

My lord.

Well...

Will you and general be there?

That bastard Ye Zhao.

She never flushes when flirting girls in the brothels.

Whether she hits on them or they hit on her,

such immoral things truly repel me.

My role now

is an innocent, romantic, rich yet righteous businessman.

It's not convenient for me to go there.

Because your young lord is rich but silly.

You butlers can take the chance to make good use of my money.

As for Zhao...

She needs to keep me safe.

So she must stay by my side.

Is this appropriate?

My lord said that he'll bear all the responsibilities.

What else worries you, minister Hai? We're doing this for our work.

Now it's a special period.

Our work matters the most.

Minister Hai, don't burden yourself with moral restraints.

Luckily, Scholar Bi is young.

Changes his mentality so quickly.

Minister Hai.

What on earth is in your mind?

My lord, since you've told me the reasons

and considered my feelings,

we better comply with your order rather than decline it.

That's more like it.

Remember, lash out.

Okay. If you run out of money, ask me for more.

Understood.

Especially you, minister Hai.

Behave yourself.

But, don't get too absorbed to the show.

Zhao and I will keep such things a secret for you.

Won't let your wife know.

My lord, thank you.

Xia, you also go.

Remember, put on a good show.

I know.

My lord.

All the supplies are ready.

The grains stored over the past ten years

are three billion kilograms in total.

My lord, please check it.

What about the silvers donated by officials in the court?

One hundred thousand tael of silver are all here.

My lord, this is Miss Jiaoxing.

Today she'll keep you company.

Hurry, sit down.

Well, my lord.

You guys talk.

I'll leave first.

Okay.

My lord.

You're here just to have tea?

The tea here tastes good.

My lord.

Don't you feel the moonlight looks extremely beautiful?

Miss, you must be kidding.

It's daytime now.

Not...

At night.

So what?

My lord, if you say it's night,

it's night.

Miss.

You better sit down first.

Please, sit down.

Miss.

How long is it since you came here?

Half a month.

Miss, you doesn't look like a girl belong here.

Why did you end up here?

Miss, don't overthink.

It's just a casual question.

My lord, you really want to know the reason?

Who are you?

Kneel!

Tell me, who sent you here?

What's your name?

Your Kungfu sucks.

Speak!

You won't?

Last time, a military spy got caught.

General beat him so hard that his bones were smashed

and half of his body became paralyzed.

He died just a few days after he was put into the prison.

Very well.

If you continue to keep your mouth shut,

general will beat you nearly to death.

And then you'll know the consequences!

I.. I..

I confess. I confess.

My name is Chen Tiangou.

I was a thief in the prison.

It's Zhang Nanhua...

Lord Zhang who sent me here.

Lord Zhang?

Yes.

The son of Zhang Wude.

He told me to put these official silvers into Lord Yu's room.

When the government finds out the silvers,

they'll take the chance to arrest you!

General, spare me. Spare me!

I wasn't myself.

I was entrapped by lord Zhang!

It's a capital crime to steal official silvers.

Zhang Nanhua is so ill-intended.

Leave the silvers here.

Tell me Zhang Nanhua's plan for the next step.

Go back and tell him.

The thing is well handled.

Do you hear that?

Speak!

Well... And then?

And then...

If you do a good job,

I'll spare you.

Right.

A debris flow happened at Chediguan days ago.

There're also traces of explosion.

You can tell that it's man-made.

Tell me.

Did Zhang Nanhua tell you to do that?

General, have mercy!

I swear. I only got this task, about the official silvers.

As for the rest, I have no idea.

How dare I tell lies before you, general?

General, please see the truth.

I will.

If you didn't do that,

I will not frame you.

Thank you, general. Thank you.

Go.

Hurry, get lost!

I gotta go out for a while.

You two keep Yujin safe.

-Yes. -Yes, general.

Liu Xiyin is so beautiful.

But she fell off the cliff and died.

It's been so many days.

But my heart still hurts every time I think of that.

Luckily, I found this on the cliff.

To remember her.

Only in this way can I feel better.

My lord.

I think Liu Xiyin is not necessarily a girl from some decent family.

You just met her for once.

Why do you have to feel so sad?

Don't hurt your health.

Beauties seldom live long.

Look.

God has given you to me.

So great, babe.

Come. Come.

Come, babe. Come.

You also look very pretty.

Just as gorgeous as Liu Xiyin.

Dad, I want to tell you something.

Come in.

Dad.

Mrs Bai.

Dad.

I've checked.

They still have twenty-eight carts of grains.

Do some calculation.

How much silvers is that worth?

At such a critical moment now,

grains are more expensive than gold!

Hua Zhao can be exploited.

Now he's in my territory.

We're far away from the capital.

Kill Hua Zhao.

So what?

We must be very careful and cautious.

Don't let the message out.

Don't worry, dad.

I've made arrangements well. I'll arrest the vile thief who stole official silvers.

Fox, stop!

We've known each other for so many years.

You don't have to follow me wherever I go!

Tell me.

What makes you do this so painstakingly?

General.

I didn't bomb the bridge at Chediguan.

Then who?

Do you remember

the masked assassin who stabbed into your chest?

Of course I do.

The night when city Yongguan was taken,

there also was a masked man.

You mean...

There is some connection between them?

Yes.

After we returned from the war,

I made an oath to myself.

I must find out the masked man's identity.

But I didn't expect that his majesty also turned to me.

Told me to find out the quisling

who opened the gate secretly when city Yongguan was taken.

That man has brilliant Kungfu.

Goes here and there.

I tried but failed to capture him.

But when I followed this lead to investigate further,

I found a even bigger prey.

So,

you exposed yourself tonight on purpose.

Lured me out.

To tell me your findings.

Well, who is the bigger prey?

Lord Qi.

Lord Qi?

So he's the manipulator

behind the falling of city Yongguan?

I'm gonna chop him off in person.

To avenge my father and elder brother.

General, don't.

Why not?

Before we've gotten solid evidence of his crimes,

don't act rashly.

Otherwise he'll be alerted.

Now the power struggle in the court presents itself like undercurrents.

Western Xia and Liao are like tigers, waiting to make moves.

Various conflicts confront and try one another.

His majesty is far-sighted.

So he's been tolerant.

On one hand, he uses capable officials and advisers in the court.

On the other hand,

he has to balance every party's interests all the time.

Well, tell me.

What should I do?

Wait for a chance.

Lord Qi will make many moves in the future.

To help him usurp the throne

by giving away the court's interests.

General, take it easy.

After I sort out all the evidence,

I'll join hands with you to enter the field again.

And then avenge old general Ye.

Okay.

General.

It's late at night.

You should go back to rest.

Let me see myself off.

My judgment is right.

Brothels are indeed good places to get information.

We are all good at playing with girls.

Even minister Hai also did a good job!

Spent a quantity of silvers.

Approached a few shallow-pated playboys.

Asked them questions.

They gave us all what we wanted!

What did they say?

After the flood,

rich families and unscrupulous businessmen hoarded grains.

Drove up grain prices at the cost of civilians' lives.

That's hateful.

And Zhang Wude. He misconducted for personal gains, took bribes, defied the law.

Misused his authority.

He even charged people

to replace the rich who're about to be executed

for those innocent beggars.

A bunch of damned bastards!

The capital lies before his majesty's eyes.

Even if those officials and nobles aim to do evil,

they have to think about dignity.

So they won't go too far.

But Xiushui Province is far away from his majesty.

A petty provincial magistrate dares to be so overbearing!

That's really hateful!

This really can't be more ridiculous.

When I was head of bullies,

I never dared to oppress marketers and snatch any man...

Woman!

How dare they bully me?!

I'll make sure they die miserably!

Yujin, calm down.

You say they'll die miserably,

so they will!

My lord.

Although Zhang Wude and his son are corrupt,

we should punish them according to the law.

Besides, they've done a great superficial job.

Before we get solid evidence,

we can't convict them just based on rumors, right?

Why can't we?

That doesn't accord with the rules.

What damn rules?!

My words are rules!

Whoever wants to be Mr clean, let him be!

I'm just a bad official who rely on nepotism.

Kill a few people, what's the big deal?

You're right, Yujin.

To punish those corrupt guys.

It's better to be a bad official before them!

Well said!

Honey.

You've behaved better and better lately.

Like husband, like wife.

So I'll always follow your orders.

I'll bear it in mind.

Gosh, with such a general,

such a duke, it's...

It's really a bliss to our Song empire!

My lord. My lord.

There are some yamen runners waiting outside. Saying they're gonna arrest the vile thief who stole official silvers.

Arrest whom?

Me.

General?

Yujin.

Pah!

How dare they?!

Where's the vile thief?

Let's go.

I'm here.

You're Hua Zhao?

Search!

The vile thief Hua Zhao stole official silvers.

With solid evidence!

Go back to yamen with me!

Okay.

Zhao.

Hurry, come with me!

Impudent!

How dare you?

How dare you catch our...

Why not?

Either a nation or a family has its rules.

Why can't we arrest him?

If Hua Zhao really didn't make any mistakes,

my father will clear his name.

That's right.

Uncle taught me,

people should be responsible for what they did.

Since you suspect him,

I'll let him go with you.

The innocent can't be proved otherwise.

So can't the guilty.

Whoever does evil will get his due punishment.

I can bear it no matter what result it'll be.

See you.

Just go.

You won't?

Absolutely won't.

Fine.

Let's go!

Well, lord Yu.

Bye.

It seems that someone is gonna die.

He'll die sooner or later.

YAMEN

Jiangbei Province produces talents since ancient times.

These characters were wrote by lord Hu.

RIGHTEOUSNESS AND JUSTICE

Lord Hu is from a famous family.

They're officials for generations.

Now his son-in-law, Lu Zhenting, Mr Lu.

Is making a noise in the capital.

Lu Zhenting.

The one who runs a wager shop in the capital?

I've competed with him in Kungfu days ago.

These characters.

Look a little slant.

Yes. Yes.

The character Ming does look a little slant.

What are you guys talking about?

Don't you see I'm here?

The criminal, kneel!

During a trial,

does the criminal have to kneel?

Surely wise. The criminal should be on his knees.

Kneel, then.

Yes!

What?

Aren't you blind?!

Don't you know who I am?!

Impudent!

Summon the suspect's dependents.

Summon the dependents!

Hurry. Hurry.

General Ye, please take the seat.

General Ye?

Which general Ye?

Few generals in the court have the surname Ye.

The most famous one is only that woman.

Fought in the battlefield since sixteen.

The devil incarnate who killed without mercy.

The Grand Imperial General.

Who traveled incognito...

The primary spouse of duke Nanping?

Lord Yu doesn't look like a noble duke at all.

Hua Zhao doesn't look like a woman at all.

How could they be a couple?

She says she's general Ye, so she is?

Now liars are everywhere.

Who knows if she's the real one?

Im...im.. Impudent!

General Ye.

This man shouts during the trial.

Should we slap him?

Slap him?

I'm so stupid.

Such a treacherous and vile man.

Should be flogged for twenty strikes!

Guards, twenty strikes!

-Yes! -Yes!

You...

-What? -Kneel!

Dad, help!

-Dad, help! -Be good! Dad!

-Dad, help! -You...

Dad!

Private adviser Pu always goes after profits.

Won't carry favor with the others for no reason.

Every move of her does look like a general.

I'm afraid her identity is real.

Stupid! Stupid! Dad.

General.

I didn't know you came here to patrol.

Failed to pick you up. General, please forgive me!

Alright. Alright.

Stop beating him.

Magistrate Zhang, tell me.

What crime did you commit?

General.

Xiushui Province suffered a flood.

I was busy making rich families donate grains

to relieve people in the disaster.

When I returned, I heard official silvers were stolen.

I was so anxious.

But the informant pointed out official silvers were in...

The mansion of the imperial commoner who traveled incognito.

Now, thinking of that,

it's thief Chen Tiangou who did it. He did it to famed me up.

General, since I

always care about the people,

please forgive my mistake.

Summon the witnesses!

Su...Su... Summon the witnesses!

General.

You first.

Yamen runner Li told me,

Magistrate zhang was corrupt before he took office.

He received over ten thousand of silvers.

Before the flood came, there were breaches on the dam.

But he just ignored it.

Did nothing but enjoyed his life.

After the dam was broken,

he bribed immoral businessmen

to make it look alright on the surface.

He also raised rice price.

Made so many flood victims and the others die!

Bastard! That's intolerable!

Slander!

Miss Jiaoxing suffered a lot.

What happened to her is totally true.

But yamen runner Li is definitely not a good man.

He swaggered around and bullied the people.

I was going to depose him.

He hated me.

So he spread rumors to defame me.

Luckily, god knows everything. Made him drowned after he got drunk days ago.

But before he died, he lied

to mislead Miss Jiaoxing.

General, please see the truth.

Liar!

You're lying!

Sis Taohong was killed by you.

I don't know Miss Taohong.

Well.

A frequent visitor to brothels.

How could you not know Taohong?

She's drunk with you!

Many people have drunk with me.

People in Sping House all know that.

General.

I'm a little lusty.

I often couldn't help

drinking by myself in those places.

I really shouldn't do that.

I was wrong. I know it.

General, please understand me.

You shameless thing!

You did so many bad things.

You'll die miserably.

General Ye.

This woman curses other people.

Shall I slap her?

Slap whom?

As long as the beauty doesn't curse herself,

she'll have the right.

The little girl knelt for a long time. Her legs hurt.

Come on, fetch a chair for her.

Hurry. Hurry. Fetch a chair.

So Miss Jiaoxing can go on talking.

General is indeed scaring.

But I've colluded with magistrate Zhang.

If he gets hurt, I also will.

If he confesses,

he'll also sell me out.

It'll be worse.

Pu.

Anything you want to say?

General Ye.

I've been working under magistrate Zhang's leadership.

But what happened in private...

It's not proper for me to ask.

Every provincial magistrate in history would levy some silvers

to subsidize himself.

Of course, magistrate Zhang is not an exception.

Right.

That's also a crime.

Private adviser Pu avoids severer crimes cleverly.

He does live up to my influences.

Magistrate Zhang.

Your extra yards and cups from Ru Chinaware.

Can you explain it?

General.

A rich salter moved to another place.

He rent his house to me.

Let me pay fifty to sixty taels of silver every year.

A provincial governor stays in office only for four years.

Why should I have to buy such a big house?
