Buried City to Shut All Lights

Episode 12

Mr. Chu Qing.

Is Chu Che here?

He’s out.

Good. I’m here to see you.

I...

Take a seat.

It’s said

your master is helping with an investigation.

I don’t know my master’s business.

But,

I heard you both are helping

Prince Qiyan with something big recently.

Looks like your lips are sealed.

I really don’t know anything.

Actually,

I just want to know

who you are.

I...

Never mind.

Your master is always a mystery.

I’m leaving.

Good bye, Mr. Chu Qing.

Your Majesty,

Prince Qiyan is here to see you.

Qiyan comes

to see me every day recently.

In the end,

he’s the only one who cares about me.

I used to underestimate him.

Now I feel a little

guilty in mind.

What makes you say that?

Prince Qiyan loves his father.

It’s natural law.

I’ll send him in for you.

OK.

How are you today, father?

Rise.

Thank you, father.

Come.

Closer to me.

I’m busy with national affairs

and tell you

there’s no need to come every day.

Why do you still come?

Because you’re busy,

I have to check on you every day.

When you see me,

you’ll have to put down your work

and talk to me.

It’s kind of rest

and my way to love you.

You’re so considerate.

Don’t say that, father.

My brother is heading to the border

to settle the unrest

for you.

I call that real filial piety.

Glad you said that.

Qiheng is better than me in every aspect.

I believe this time,

he’ll sweep to another victory.

I’m satisfied that I could take care of you

on his behalf.

Father,

it’s said you don’t eat well.

You don’t know.

It’s been hot recently.

I don’t eat and sleep well.

I feel hard to breathe.

And there are so many affairs to be solved.

So I ask the Imperial Kitchen

to make some invigorator for me.

Father, I’ll invite

the famous Physician An Qianye

to palace tomorrow

and give you some new prescriptions, OK?

OK.

That physician is great. Invite him over.

You’re so considerate.

Father,

I brought snow lotus from Mt. Tianshan for you.

OK.

My son!

Chief Justice’s Office

His Highness, Prince Qiyan!

I don’t know you’re coming. Is anything wrong?

You tell him, Chu Che.

Recently,

I followed Prince Qiyan to see his father each day.

It’s our time now.

What does that mean?

His Majesty doesn’t know his ill is beyond cure

and will die within 7 days.

What?

It’s true.

He’s been suffering from the disease

since infancy.

Years of pain damages his organs.

Besides, in recent years, he’s in anxiety,

which leads to other diseases.

Multiple attacks weaken his heart.

Now even the immortals can’t save him,

not to mention Physician An.

In 7 days,

what should I do?

It’s enough to make you the emperor.

Now,

you need to tell something to Prince Qiheng.

Yiluo.

We’ve come to the critical stage of the struggle.

In the coming days,

you’re not allowed to go out.

Master.

Where are you going in these days?

Sixth Prince’s Mansion

What’s going on? Didn’t you tell me 7 days?

It’s the seventh day.

Why is my father still all right?

Be patient, Your Highness.

All is ready except what is crucial.

What crucial you’re talking about?

I’ve done everything you told me to do

in 7 days.

Your Highness,

just wait for it.

It’s been 7 days. We’re almost there.

Report!

How is the war going?

Your Majesty, Prince Qiheng...

Prince Qiheng is ambushed

and our troops are retreating.

What...

What’s happened?

Someone told Prince Qiheng

that Your Majesty isn’t well.

Prince Qiheng was anxious

and made a reckless attack.

While our garrison was lightly guarded,

the enemy attacked by surprise

and burned the grain barn.

Where is

Prince Qiheng now?

Prince Qiheng led the rest of the troops

and made it out to Mt. Niubang.

Can’t he focus on the war

knowing that I’m poor in health?

Your Majesty, your medicine.

Your Majesty.

His Majesty has passed away.

In the name of Heaven,

I, hereby, announce

that Prince Qiyan is earnest in his duty

and have a loving heart for the people.

I’m proud

and hereby hand the throne to him.

The end.

Thank you, father.

Kneel.

Hail the new Emperor!

Long live the Emperor!

Long live the Emperor!

Long live the Emperor!

Master.

Why don’t you go to bed?

I’m waiting for you.

Why?

I have a bad feeling

that something is going to happen.

Don’t worry.

Master.

I’m afraid.

Of what?

Nothing.

Time to bed.

Xirong State

Xirong Hall

Hongying,

have you given the gifts

to Liang State?

Yes, father, they’ve received our gifts.

And they gave us ten carts of jewelries in return

to maintain friendship with us.

Father,

I’ve made my rounds to the garrisons.

Where have you been after that?

Emperor of Xirong State

You’re so late.

Father,

there are rebels robbing grains in the city.

I’ve dispelled them.

This is the capital.

Where are the rebels from? Tell me.

Father, I’ve made it clear.

It’s because the grain price increases by 3 times.

Three times?

Is it the unscrupulous traders’ doing?

If it is, no matter how many of them,

seize them all,

and I’ll punish them personally.

Father,

this isn’t the traders’ doing.

After Qiyan of Zhongyuan State took the throne,

he raised taxes

and broke commerce treaties between us.

Father, we’re not cowards

to be fooled like this.

I’d like to lead an attack on Zhongyuan State.

Hantong,

the attack on Zhongyuan isn’t a game.

Those Zhongyuan people

should learn the lesson for their dishonesty.

Hantong,

you’re a great military leader.

You’ve never lost a battle.

However great you are,

you can’t underestimate the enemy.

It’s Zhongyuan State.

Father, I’ve made it clear.

The commander of Zhongyuan Army is a blockhead.

It’s the best opportunity.

Hantong,

don't you forget

that there is a great leader,

Qiheng, in Zhongyuan State.

He’s nothing to me.

If you didn’t screw my plan back then,

Zhongyuan State would be part of our territory.

OK.

Two hundred thousand men.

In two months.

I want two cities in the southwest of Zhongyuan.

Can you make it?

I won’t let you down,

father.

Father.

Your brother has never lost in a battle.

Perhaps he will gain victory this time.

Or perhaps, he will lose.

If he loses,

you can teach

him a lesson as he did it to you.

Qiankun Hall of Zhongyuan State

Your Majesty,

Mr. Li Huailiu is waiting outside

to seek your audience.

It’s late.

Tell him to come tomorrow.

He said it’s an emergency.

OK, send him in.

Yes.

Your Majesty,

The second prince of Xirong State invaded

with a 200,000 army.

We’ve lost several cities.

How could it happen?

Your Majesty, it’s urgent.

Please give me your instruction.

Here is my order.

Let General Liu lead 150,000 men to fight back

immediately.

Yes, Your Majesty.

Chu Mansion

Chu Che?

Chu Che, where have you been?

Do you know

Qiyan has expelled all his brothers

away from the capital.

Except for Qiheng,

he’s home arrested.

What do you want to say?

I think the expelled are fine.

Though they’re away,

they maintain their ranks

and can live in peace and leisure.

But Qiyan and Qiheng used to be close.

After Qiyan took the throne,

he’s been cruel to Qiheng.

If I were the emperor,

I would never mistreat my brother so brutally.

The emperor isn’t some position

one can get whenever one wants to,

especially not you.

Chu Che, I’m worried

if he will forget

his promise to my marriage.

Rest assured.

He won’t.

You sure?

I’m relieved then.

I’m going to tell Ruoqian

to save her worries.

I know you’re here.

Come in and have some tea.

So observant.

Who are you?

I’m Prince Qiheng’s man in the army.

You’re Lin Zhiyao.

Lord Chu’s Assistant General

Lin Zhiyao

You know me?

Lin Zhiyao,

Chief Vanguard of the North Army,

and now Vice Commander of Southwest Army.

How do you know this?

Prince Qiheng

came back for enthronement as ordered,

but was imprisoned in the palace by His Majesty.

You must come

for his freedom.

The other lords

have been expelled to their fiefs.

However, Lord Chu isn’t granted a fief

and what’s worse, he’s imprisoned.

I’m worried about his lordship’s safety,

so I ask for your advice to free Lord Chu.

I’m just a common man.

You don’t have to

kneel before me.

Get up, please.

You don’t need to do anything.

What?

His Lordship will be released in 3 or 4 days.

Your Majesty,

General Liu lost the first battle.

Now our troops are at a disadvantage.

They’ve retreated to Tianshui Pass.

What? Useless man!

Don’t we have other military talents?

Your Majesty, for the time being,

only Lord Chu is capable of the position.

No way.

I can’t believe he’s the last man I can count on.

Your Majesty.

I know your worries.

But we’re facing a powerful enemy.

Do you really want to lose the throne?

OK.

Make your arrangement.

Yes, Your Majesty.

Is this the only solution?

Your Majesty.

Rise.

I heard Lin Zhiyao went to you.

Did he say something to you?

I wonder what Your Majesty thinks

he would say to me.

Chu Che,

don’t make pointless presumptions.

I dare not to.

That's good.

I told you before

that once I take the throne,

we become close allies,

don’t we?

Of course.

Goodbye, then.

Your Majesty, don’t forget

what you promised to me,

approving the marriage of An Ziyi and Ruoqian

and the list of new talents.

I won't.

Rest assured.

Master.

What’s up?

I know so many secrets about Qiyan.

I can only work for him

and pledge allegiance to him,

so as to

protect you

and revenge your parents.

Master, it’s my fault.

I’ve been fanatical about revenge

and dragged you into the struggle of power

against your value.

I’m sorry.

How ironic!

In the end, I become the person

I despise the most.

But luckily,

I’ve got you.

Don’t be sorry.

For you,

I’d do anything.

Qiankun Hall of Zhongyuan State

Your Majesty.

Xirong Army has withdrawn from our border.

Your Majesty,

aren’t you happy that the Xirong Army

is in desperate now?

In couples of days, we turned the tide of war.

My brother

is really something.

Your Majesty,

the second prince of Xirong State, Luo Hantong,

is not to be belittled.

He’s fighting tenaciously

and isn’t going to surrender.

I’m afraid

we can’t afford a prolonged warfare.

Your Majesty.

I have a bold idea

if you’ll allow it.

Let’s hear it.

I heard the eldest prince of Xirong, Luo Hongying,

likes Miss Yiluo very much.

If we make her a princess

and marry her to him...

Pardon me, Your Majesty.

If Chu Che knows,

he’ll stand a problem.

Then things could be worse between us.

He’s her master. They can’t be married.

Miss Yiluo is young.

It’s for her good.

If we make the marriage happen,

Lord Chu

will no longer stand a threat to Your Majesty.

OK.

Keep it low.

Yes, Your Majesty.

Your Highness.

You are one ask for this meeting.

I’m here for peace talk

on behalf of my country.

Peace talk?

Then you should go to my father.

Why me?

Though our army

has won the war on our border,

we suffer a huge loss.

So peace benefits

both your country

and mine.

So what?

I come here

in hope that Your Highness

could persuade your father to make peace.

Why are you so sure

that I will help you?

We’d like to make Yiluo a princess

and marry her to you.

Xirong State

It’s said your emperor

snatched the throne from Lord Chu, Qiheng.

Your Majesty,

message from the front.

Zhongyuan Army struck by surprise.

Chief Commander of Xirong State Royal Guards

Qiang Yao

Totally unprepared,

our troops withdrew to Langya Pass.

What?

Are our troops all right?

How is Prince Hantong?

Don’t worry, Your Majesty.

Prince Hantong isn’t hurt.

But the morale in our troops

plummets after the strike.

Tell me.

Who is the commander of Zhongyuan Army?

Your Majesty,

it’s Prince Qiheng.

Now that Hantong is surrounded,

my opinion is

we should go to Zhongyuan and make peace.

We’re in the middle of war

and they have the advantage.

Why do you think they will make peace?

Father, I’ve made it clear.

Zhongyuan State’s competence

is far from that in the past.

It’s almost impossible for them

to run a long war.

If Hantong keeps the war on,

both states will suffer a great loss.

If we make the proposal now,

Zhongyuan State will agree

in the long run.

Father,

please entrust me with the peace talk.

I’ll give you a satisfactory answer.

I see you’re all prepared,

then have a try.

It’s about peace between two states.

I will do my best.

OK.

How about I make her a princess

and marry her to you?

She’s in love with another man.

How could you make her marry me willingly?

Wives obey their husbands.

In time,

she’ll accept you.

But I have a request.

You have to make it absolutely right.

After all, the man she loves is extremely capable.

OK. I promise.

I already have a plan.

Three days later,

our troops withdraw to the border.

From then on,

our states shall maintain peace.

Prince Luo,

your beautiful bride will be sent to you.

Buried City to Shut All Lights

Next on Season 2

I’m the second prince of Xirong State,

Luo Hantong.

But it seems from now on

you’re my sister-in-law.

Where are you going?

Who is it?

I’m not goods to be traded for peace.

Chu Che and I have no choice.

It pains us, too.

When you see Mr. Chu Che,

please tell him

he’s no longer my master.

This is your living quarters.

How is it?

Does it look like the Misty Rain Pavilion?

If you don’t like it,

I’ll tear it down and rebuild.

You look terribly unhappy.

I am happy.

I’d like to see you smile.

I do like smile.

You don't like them.

But for your own interest,

you lock them up here

and destroy their happiness.

You feel sorry for them.

Why couldn’t you feel the same for me?

You’re a hypocrite to me.

So many people want me dead.

I’ve sent Consort Yao

out of the palace.

It’s been only a few months since I came

and you’ve already sent two consorts away.

I don’t love Luo Hongying.

So, I have no interest to compete with you.

Luo Hongying is going to accede?

If Yiluo can be his empress,

it couldn’t be better for Zhongyuan State.

Is it Chu Che?

Did you find him?

I searched the whole city

but didn’t catch a sight of him.

I have a bold guess.

The three of them

have gone to Xirong State to free Ningle Princess.

Remember.

Don’t tell the truth about Chu Che to Yiluo.

Empress Chu said

she hopes you think for your home

and the families who are missing you.

Families?

Who are they?

I know who the baby’s father is.

This is Luo Mansion.

Luo Dongting

is the late Emperor of Xirong State’s third son.

He’s lost his power.

What’s the point of seeking his help?

That’s exactly

why he could be

a pawn to work for me.

To help me claim the throne?

What good does it do to you?

Talents long for a wise emperor.

Chu Che is allowed to love you.

So is Luo Hongying.

But why not me?

If you allow me,

I can give you freedom.

Yiluo, you don’t love Luo Hongying.

Why do you force yourself to be with him?

Your Highness, your master must be marvelous.

He used to be a proud man,

who lives in mountains

and stays out of worldly affairs.

If it weren’t for me,

he could be

an outstanding master.

Whom do you want to kill?

Luo Hongying or Luo Hantong?

Luo Hantong. No, Luo Hongying.

Actually, it’s not hard

to get rid of him.

You think you can get my love

by holding me back here?

In your dreams.

She’s a maid.

How does she know so many things?

And she tells Yiluo intentionally?
