Buried City to Shut All Lights

Episode 8

I’m exhausted.

He’s asleep?

Yes.

Euphorbia antiquorum is hypnotic.

It makes him sleep.

Good.

I met Chu Qian today.

Did you?

She’s changed a lot.

Think about it.

She becomes a family to whom she marries.

Chu Qian marries Prince Qiyan

It’s her duty to help him manage affairs.

It’s hard for her to go back to the simple lady.

I remember

we talked about what love is

when we were together in this yard.

Chu Qian said

it’s to stay with her loved one

and help him realize his dream.

The meaning of love

is different for different people.

So,

it’s best

to be ordinary people like us.

Yes, it is.

Ziyi,

what is wrong with my master?

Why can’t he be cured?

He’s very lucky

that his illness can be contained like now.

What does that mean?

That’s because he...

Is this a trap?

I told you I’d tell you in the future.

You said that every time.

Why does it have to be in the future?

Can’t you tell me now?

If I tell you now,

what can you do to help him?

I...

Just imagine

the scene

when your master finds out

that I tell you about it.

I guess

he’ll stab a sword in my chest.

And he’s much smarter

than I am.

I’d better not tell his secret.

My safety matters the most.

Is he poisoned by wolf demon’s venom?

I should go check on him.

Sixth Prince’s Mansion

The Prime Minister has been proven

treason.

Qixuan is losing our father’s trust.

In the court today,

even I noticed

how His Majesty trusts you.

I want you to persuade Chu Che to help me.

You know

he won’t.

I don’t believe there’s nothing he cares.

You don’t know him.

He cares nobody if you corner him.

What about Yiluo?

He doesn’t care about her?

Your Highness,

the Minister of Rituals seeks your audience.

Send him in.

Yes.

Your Highness, I’m Li Huailiu.

It’s OK.

Thank you, Your Highness.

Minister of Rituals

Li Huailiu

Mr. Chu is here, too.

Glad to meet you.

What is it that makes you so anxious?

Looks like you have to meet Chu Che.

You want to lobby me for Prince Qiyan again?

I come here

not to ask you to work for Prince Qiyan,

but for a national affair.

I don’t want anything to do with it.

In any case,

you’ll have to help me and Chu Qian.

Why should I do that?

Because if you don’t

and Prince Qixuan succeeds in his insurrection,

we are all going to die.

Prince Qixuan is planning an insurrection?

He’ll start it at 11 p.m. tonight.

Chu Che, I think you know

if Prince Qixuan succeeds,

your disciple, Yiluo,

will be the first to be hunted.

After all,

without her,

we wouldn’t take the Prime Minister down.

Prince Qiheng has an army.

If we persuade him to protect his emperor father,

from what we know about Prince Qixuan,

he’ll be outnumbered.

Protect the Emperor?

In that case,

Prince Qiheng will take

all the credits.

Without His Majesty’s Tiger Tally and edict,

no one can mobilize an army,

not to mention lead the army to court.

If Prince Qiheng comes to persuade Prince Qixuan,

he’ll call it to rid the emperor of evil man.

It’s a feat and, meanwhile, a crime.

When the insurrection is suppressed,

who knows what His Majesty

will make of Prince Qiheng’s motive?

So,

we can take advantage of this.

In the future,

His Majesty will fall in panic.

Thus, what we need to do now

is not to let Prince Qiyan

give any impression to His Majesty,

either it’s a good one or not.

You see it clearer.

Tell Prince Qiyan

to make sure of Yiluo’s safety.

Leave the rest to me.

OK.

I’ll shall leave you to your work.

Tomorrow,

I’ll ask Chu Qian to take you and Jian to suburb.

To suburb?

Why?

I can’t tell you now.

You’ll understand.

But I don’t want to part with you.

Don’t worry.

I’ll be fine.

Promise me.

Take good care of my sister and Jian.

OK?

Alright.

Zhongyuan State

Hold on.

Officer.

What is your purpose to go out?

We’re going home.

A letter came from home,

saying that my mother isn’t well.

Look, we started out early.

In the wagon...

Officer, look.

Please help us.

Do us a favor.

You can go.

Thank you.

Thank you.

Stop!

You! Answer me.

Who are you?

What should we do? We’re going to be exposed.

Officer.

Officer, this is my brother.

Please let us pass for his sake.

He’s a mute.

Mute?

Yes, a mute.

Look, both of my brothers

are handsome.

It’s a pity that they’re both mute.

I don’t think it’s that simple.

Officer, you don’t believe me?

Guards!

Get in and drag him out.

Officer.

Stop!

Mr. Chu.

Nice to meet you.

Is that how you do your job?

Bully the civilians?

I...

Mr. Chu, we’re city guards,

Mr. Zhang’s men.

You can’t punish me.

If Mr. Zhang knows

one of his dogs tries to bite me,

what will he do?

Um...

Take him.

Mr. Chu. Mr. Chu.

Mr. Chu.

I’m loose with their discipline.

Sorry for the disturbance.

Let them go.

Chu Qian,

what happened?

There’s going to be a big event tonight.

What’s up?

Prince Qixuan is planning an insurrection.

How is my master going to cope with it?

Is Prince Qiyan going to protect the Emperor?

Your master

has worked out a one-peach-three-warriors plan

which kills one with the hands of another.

One-peach-three-warriors?

The throne is the peach.

The Emperor, Qixuan and Qiheng are the warriors.

My Qiyan

will crack down on Qixuan

as easy as a snap

without even get involved.

This is a brutal war over the throne,

involving killing among brothers.

Yet Chu Qian spoke of it

like it’s something normal.

In a moment,

the whole plan

doesn’t make me relieved.

Instead, I’m worried than ever.

Chief Justice’s Office

Fourth Prince of Zhongyuan State

Qiheng

Qiheng.

Your Highness.

Please be seated.

Amitabha, I pray for my master.

For the Emperor and the people.

Your Highness, what are you doing here?

It takes me great effort to find you.

Luckily, my nephew is here, too.

I presume this lady

is Chu Che’s beloved disciple.

It’s all clear

now that I see you here.

Nanny, bring Jian in.

Yes.

Let’s talk when we get back to the capital.

We’re women and a child

and don’t know what you’re saying.

Don’t know?

Last night, Qixuan launched a revolt.

What a good chance to show loyalty!

Qiheng is so keen on it.

However, Qiyan doesn’t show much interest.

I think it’s not quite like my sixth brother.

Then I find he’s got the younger Mr. Chu

as his counselor.

I don’t know what you’re talking about.

My purpose to come here is simple.

I want you to come with me.

In your dreams.

Miss, don’t make haste to fight.

Chu Qian, don’t be afraid.

Look, we’ve got so many guards.

Do feel assured to come with us.

I’ll guarantee your safety.

How is it?

So many men

against three women and a child?

I doubt your motive.

I may have an ulterior motive.

So does Qiyan.

After so many years planning for the throne,

now you become the winners?

It looks like

Qixuan has failed in his insurrection.

Your Highness,

even if you seize and kill us all,

it can’t change the fact

of Prince Qixuan’s insurrection.

It only worsens your crime.

However, if you let us go,

perhaps my master can plead for you

and say something nice

to mitigate your crime.

Do you think I would believe the words

from a naive girl?

Now,

only if I have your safety in my hands

can I make Qiyan to behave

as I order.

Wake up.

It’s all in vain.

Since you don’t listen to my advice,

don’t blame me for it.

Hopeless man!

Go back in.

Master.

Back off.

Master.

I thought you wouldn’t come.

Yiluo.

Yiluo.

A strong wind, at the farthest it can go,

can’t even lift up a feather.

What’s the point of fighting back?

Yiluo.

Yiluo.

Yiluo.

Where is Qiyan? How is he?

Is he all right?

Don’t you know what’s happening?

You still have the mood to ask about Qiyan?

Go prepare the wagon.

Seize the prince!

Yiluo.

Still not wake up?

You wake up.

Ziyi.

You finally wake up.

You’ve been sleeping for 3 days and nights.

Where is my master?

He’s with Chu Qing.

After Prince Qixuan’s insurrection,

there are so many things to be done.

He’ll be back shortly.

Who changed my clothes?

Clothes?

Your master did.

What?

What’s up?

Why didn’t you stop him?

How am I going to face him?

It’s OK. What do you mean by that?

You’ll marry your master sooner or later.

Who said that? Don’t say that.

My master and I are not in a relationship.

I never said you are.

All right. I’ll drop it.

I’ll be blessed after the narrow escape, will I?

Yeah, it’s a narrow escape for you.

But your master’s bizarre illness...

What illness?

Is it wolf demon’s venom?

My big mouth!

Look,

you can’t be there for him for a lifetime,

right?

And if you tell me,

I can take good care of him,

right?

We're on the same side.

Ziyi.

It’s really good for him if you tell me.

OK,

but you can’t tell your master I tell you that.

That year,

our master took dozens of us on a tour study.

We encountered with a huge wolf.

Every one died of its bite.

But Chu Che, another kid,

and I made it out alive.

To save us,

Chu Che was severely bitten.

So the legend about

wolf demon is true.

We ran and ran

and finally came to a hut

in the mountain where an old grandpa lived.

He told us

it was wolf demon we ran into.

Once bitten by it,

the person will carry wolf demon’s venom.

If killed by it, the victim’s body disappears.

Even if he can live,

he will lose his mind,

or worse,

he’ll suffer burning pain.

Was my master’s poison serious?

Very serious.

That’s too bad.

In fact, there’s a way to detoxify.

How?

In a cave on Mount Jiuxi,

there are countless poisonous bugs and snakes

that can detoxify the wolf demon’s venom.

But,

the process is extremely painful

that seldom have people survived.

Once poisoned people went in,

but none of them came out alive.

Your master stayed in the cave for two days.

When he came out,

his body was full of bite marks.

The scars on his body

were left at that time.

That’s why he’s cold.

Now you know it.

Actually, he wasn’t like that

when we were kids.

But now he has no choice.

He has to be cold,

so cold

that he kills without sympathy.

That keeps him alive.

There’s another person

who also survived

the wolf demon’s venom.

Who is it?

It’s the former Chief Justice, Mr. Ji Xingyuan.

The first time I met him,

I knew

this must be a remarkable man.

But later it’s said

his family disappeared.

And no one knows why.

What a pity! He’s a just official.

My father was poisoned by wolf demon’s venom!

No wonder

he went out every two or three years

and came back weak and tired.

Will they transform into wolf demon?

It’s said they will.

But I never saw it.

What are you talking about?

No, nothing.

You catch up. I’ll leave you two alone.

You haven’t recovered yet.

No meat is allowed.

So you have to put up with clear soup for a while.

What did An Ziyi tell you?

He told me how you became ill.

Well, he always

exaggerates.

Don’t believe everything he said.

It’s not as serious as he made it.

Master,

will you transform into the wolf demon?

You don’t believe me?

I know

you keep many secrets from me.

But I believe

you won’t kill innocent people.

I am poisoned by wolf demon’s venom.

But I’m not a wolf demon.

Do you believe me?

Yes, I do.

That’s enough for me.

Master,

sometimes,

if you show what you’re suffering to me,

it won’t necessarily make things worse.

Instead,

you have another person to share your pain,

which will be reduced by half.

Don’t you agree?

Does your wound still hurt?

Yes.

I’m sorry.

I came too late

and let you get hurt.

I promised you to protect

you and Jian when we were in suburb.

I made it.

And I didn’t protect you.

I feel guilty.

I know

you’re good to me

because of your promise to my father.

It’s not that.

Your life is mine.

You can’t die

without my permission.

Do you like me?

I don’t.

So I’m wrong.

I can’t leave you.

I won’t leave you for my lifetime.

You don’t have to say that.

I don’t say that to comfort you.

Then you shouldn’t have said that.

Because you know I like you.

You said

you don't like me.

Silly girl,

I said I don’t like you

because that word, like,

can’t express my feeling for you.

Tell me then.

What is your feeling for me?

It’s love.

You love me?

Why can’t I feel it?

Because I don’t want you to.

I’ve been restrained myself.

But now,

I don’t want to restrain anymore.

When I find the truth about your family’s missing,

I’ll marry you.

Alright.

You need more rest.

Come. Sleep in my arms.

Wolf!

Darling.

Wolf!

Master, madam, watch out!

Be careful, master.

Protect the master and the mistress.

What should we do?

I know this day will come.

Your Highness.

How is it going?

What do you find about the new Prime Minister?

The new PM’s lips are sealed.

Of course they are.

He’s my father’s henchman.

My father is paranoid recently.

Naturally, he won’t give us any information.

Actually, we already

have many supporters in court.

There’s no need to worry, Your Highness.

After all, the decision on

the new Crown Prince won’t take a day or two.

Oh, I’m about to have a consort.

A consort? Who is she?

The daughter of the Minister of Treasury,

Qi Qi.

Does Chu Qian know it?

She knows something.

Chu Qing, you’re here.

I make some ginseng soup for Qiyan

to keep his health.

Put it there.

You catch up.

Are you all right?

Qiyan is getting tired of me.

You should know

Prince Qiyan is going to be the emperor.

He can’t spare all his attention

on you.

What should I do?

Chu Qing, teach me.

It’s said the new Prime Minister’s wife

likes to collect jades.

If you can win the PM’s support for him,

perhaps you can impress him.

Take care of yourself.
