My Lord Ji Yuan has escaped!

Good.

Execute the plan.

Yes.

Chief can only capture him if he escapes from here.

Now it all rests on Su Fu.

Why is he lighting the candle in broad daylight?

He is trying to send a message to someone.

He must have someone to contact with.

Hurry capture the one in white!

Who are you?

Are you Ji Yuan's contact?

His Lordship is asking you something!

Commandant Su?

Lord Sun?

Not good, hurry and capture Ji Yuan!

Yes!

This Lord Sun is not a bad actor.

Seal Yun Shao restaurant!

Even if we have to dig 3 feet we must find him!

Yes.

This civilian pays his respect to His Lordship.

Just now...did you see anyone suspicious.

Your Lordship I did not see anyone suspicious.

Just now I was with my manager,

no my employees checking up the stock.

Checking up the stock? What stock?

We just received some fresh vegetables but the deliverymen have gone.

It looks like we are one step late.

Marquis of Sui's pearl...

The jade of the He clan...

When the pearl and jade are interlocked,

one will gain wealth?

My Lord.

When Lord Sun tried to lure a bigger prey using Ji Yuan,

he accidentally let Ji Yuan get away.

I wonder if Sun Zhen did it intentionally or accidentally?

His Majesty is almost here, hurry and prepare for his arrival.

Yes.

His Majesty has arrived!

Why is Consort Yang not coming out to welcome His Majesty?

Beloved consort, I am here, are you not happy?

Hurry open the door.

Your Majesty...

Hurry and summon the ministers.

Greetings Your Majesty.

You may rise now.

Thank you Your Majesty.

I hope you can prepare yourselves for what you see.

What you will see next, may be the strangest sight

you have ever witnessed in a case.

Your Lordships come.

I have never seen such a large butterfly cocoon.

And we have not been able to find my Consort even now.

Your Majesty. This kind of butterfly is called the Blossom Monarch butterfly.*

It is pink and double the size of a normal butterfly.

It is found in the Okiwana islands and likes to lay their eggs on the common rue.

You usually find them in flower and plant gardens and around bodies of water.

The butterfly usually have a gentle disposition

but when they smell musk, they will attack

and they will secret a white venomous fluid

This venomous fluid will cause their prey to hallucinate happy scenes

and with those hallucinations is paralysis,

and they will wrap their prey in a cocoon so the prey can't move

the venom will cause the prey to fall into a coma

and when they sleep, their heart will deteriorate and they will die.

And the butterfly will also die from dehydration through secreting

too much of the venom.

This one that is still alive, because it has not secreted enough venom.

Could there still be venom in this room?

Eunuch Wang do not be afraid, the venom only lasts for a few minutes.

The prey Lord Sang talked about

could it be..

Your Majesty.

Beloved consort!

Your Majesty.

Your Majesty,

Consort Yang is already..

dead.

Your Majesty.

Your Majesty.

Beloved consort.

He passed out in fright.

Guards!

Beloved consort...

Your Majesty.

Your Majesty, Lord Sang just said

the butterfly will only attack someone when they scent musk.

Why did they attack Consort Yang for no reason?

Is there any musk in this room?!

Your Majesty Her Highness never uses any musk.

As there is no musk within the palace,

then this matter is strange.

We can only know

after examining the body.

Your Majesty,

that must be the case if you want to know the truth.

What ointment is this?

When Her Highness took a walk around the gardens at night last month, a branch accidentally scratched her neck

leaving a scar.

In order for that scar to disappear, she used this ointment.

Where is that ointment?

My Lord this is the ointment she used.

There is musk within this ointment.

This ointment does not come from the Imperial clinic.

Tell me, where does this ointment come from?

This ointment is from...from...

Hurry and tell me

Your Majesty please spare me!

I will tell you!

Consort Yang instructed me to get this from outside the palace!

Where?

I brought it from the newly opened Qingzhu clinic in the east market.

Close the clinic!

Arrest them!

Take this one in the day and one at night.

The Ministry of Justice! Arrest them!

Go!

Why are you arresting us?

How dare you! You are under suspicion for murdering the Imperial consort!

Take them all away! Go

[Qingchu clinic]

Miss Ran you are here.

Why did the authorities make arrests?

The Mnistry of Justice said your medicine contained musk and killed a consort.

Consort?

I do not dare to take your medicine? Here.

Why did the Ministry of Justice arrest my people?

I must ask Xiao Song about the situation.

I must be a fugitive now.

I must find a way to see Xiao fish privately.

Mistress all the necessities we've brought are here.

These fabrics are for Song'er.

Take them to his room.

Yes Mistress.

[Xiao Manor]

Welcome home Lord Xiao.

Xiao fish?

Xiao fish!

Xiao fish?

Xiao fish.

Fox...come out.

Do you know you are in big trouble?

I was wrongly accused!

Xiao fish, come here!

Come here and smell it. There is no musk here.

There's only herbal medicine.

[Qingzhu clinic]

Are these medicines normally all stored here?

Yes they are all stored here.

Who guardsjt?_

Did you lock the.roo.17i?

Of course! Medicine is a matter ofjife and.death,

it is normally locked up,.

Not even a fly can get in.

Did that dratted girl of mine come and find you in the past few days?

Do not speak nonsense.

She is a fugitive right now. My Lord is under orders to arrest her.

If he ran into her, he would have arrested her.

They were once husband and wife.

Why be so cruel?

Because the law presides over everything.

What is the use of this window?

These herbs cannot suffer from damp

so we must ensure the circulation here is good.

Bai Yi.

Here.

Investigate if there are any butterfly breeders with Chang'an city.

Is there anything Lord Su wishes to ask me?

9 Where is Ran Yan?

My Lord this has nothing to do with her, she is wrongly accused.

I want to save her.

Lord Su cares about my cousin too?

There are some people who do not need you to worry about them.

Nor will you be able to get them through effort.

That is my matter.

I only want to know where she is!

She will have her own plans.

As her cousin I do not know everything on her mind.

Perhaps she may ask Lord Xiao for help.

After all they were husband and wife before.

After all...they were husband and wife.

Do you think you...can get my cousin?

My cousin belongs to Lord Xiao.

Who are you to her?

That is just your wishful thinking!

What are you doing?! I am Ran Yun Sheng!

The pill of purple rost is a mind controlling drug.

As soon as you take it you will become my puppet.

you will be my slave forever.

Puppet drug?

[Xiao Manor]

Song'er are you there?

Fox! Hurry get up! Hurry and get back!

Feet! Feet!

Mother.

I heard that you ran to the kitchen to cook a meal,

it must be because the food they made did not suit your tastes.

Hence I asked the kitchens to changed the cook

and got her to make some snow fungus.

Try it.

Thank you Mother.

Do you like any of the cloths I delivered to you?

Why is it so messy?

-Hurry and tidy it up. -Yes.

Mother, I really like it.

Because I picked them out myself,

that was why it was so messy.

As long as you like it.

Thank you Mother.

Then I will not disturb you.

Mother slow down.

My Lord!

You fox, you're really here?

Bai Yi do you know the rules?!

Don't you know to knock when you enter my room?

I know I am wrong.

My Lord, His Majesty suddenly announced

he will behead Wu Xiu He, Ran Yun Sheng and Wan Lv.

What?

We have not investigated the case yet, how can he behead them?

I fear His Majesty plans to lure you out.

What should I do?

There is only one resolution right now.

Which is to prove there is no musk in the ointment.

As long as I can lure His Majesty to the gallows,

that way I can prove my innocence.

There is one person....who can do that.

Morpho butterflies,

common rose butterfly...

I know Your Majesty has lost your beloved consort so I came to play a round of Go with you so you will not drown in sorrow.

Perhaps it will lessen your sorrow when

you have control over the game board.

Aren't you giving yourself up to me by doing that?

Your Majesty, my strategy might be...

Zhuge Liang's empty fort strategy?

Using a different strategy to launch a surprise ambush.

Do Scholar Sang understand war strategy?

I embarrassed myself.

How could I understand war strategy?

I only know how to study texts and literature.

But I know there are so many interesting things in the world.

Sometimes it's better to see than hear of it,

and it's better to experience than see it.

I want to hear about

those strange experiences you have.

The book of Chu Chi only mentioned once one grew wings they will be able to fly to Heaven

and become an immortal.

I have always wondered if there are any winged men around.

So after I escaped after coming first in the Imperial civil exam, and ran into a merchant envoy in the western regions.

amongst their goods I saw a feather cloak made from gold feathers.

When dusk breaks, the feather cloak will produce

unique light under lamp.

After they wore it, it was as if they were a bird man.

I had never seen such a rare item in the world.

When I escaped after coming first in the civil exam for the 3rd time,

I ran into an Indian circus troupe.

There I saw elephants with 4 tusks

they can kowtow, can dance it was quite an interesting sight.

The 3rd time?

I remember.

Scholar Sang came first in every civil exam he took, and escaped every time.

He treated my exams as child's play.

I-I am wrong!

I disappointed you, please forgive me!

You are the only one like that in the entire Tang kingdom!

You are a rare one indeed.

Your Majesty there are many rare items in the Tang dynasty.

I heard the circus troupe has recently arrived at Chang'an.

In the city west.

If you do not believe it you can come with me right now!

How dare you! His Majesty is the ruler of the Kingdom!

How could he visit a market with you?

I know I am wrong. But I believe to govern a country,

it does not depend on studying books, nor hearing stories,

but to understand the markets and experience the occurrences of our people;

Only then will the kingdom be under your control.

Very good.

I will go with you then.

I wish to see that animal with 4 tusks

and what it can do.

Dying like this is so unfair.

Don't worry.

My girl is full of tricks and ideas, she'll come and save us.

I believe in Yan'ertoo.

Lord Lu it is almost time.

Behead them!

Miss, save me!

Other people's attendants find it is their duty to protect their mistress,

why does my maid makes me lose face?

What took you so long? I almost lost my head!

I came at the right time, you will not die.

Arrest Ran Yan!

My Lord please wait.

I have 3 questions to ask you.

If you can answer them, then I am willing to give you my head.

This is the gallows, not your autopsy room.

You have no right to raise any conditions.

What?

Your Lordship does not dare to face the civilians and answer three of my questions?

Or...is there another side to this case?

His Majesty and Your Lordships wish to behead all of us

so that we cannot prove our innocence as we are dead?

Lord Sun.

Right now we have sufficient evidence. Even if she has 3 questions,

she cannot escape the fact she committed murder.

Fine.

I will give you a chance to speak.

My first question.

why did His Majesty seal my Qingzhu clinic?

The ointment that Qingzhu clinic produced was found to contain musk

causing the imperial consort to die.

And so His Majesty ordered to to be sequestrated.

My second question,

did this consort die from applying my ointment?

Consort Yang only died because she applied your ointment

which lured the blossom monarch butterflies to attack her.

This is the ointment I made that will help get rid of scars.

What about your 3rd question?

Please be patient.

My 3rd question is

why did the butterflies not attack me when I applied this ointment?

As the butterflies did not appear when I applied it,

it means the ointment in my hands does not contain poison!

Who says that?

Besides it does not prove that the ointment in your hands was the one who caused the murder.

I can prove it!

Because I have a scar on my face so I always use the ointment from Qingzhu clinic.

But I have never been attacked by that monarch blossom butterfly.

Hence, I am a witness.

Who are you?

My surname is Ran, my name is Mei Yu.

I am her biological sister.

As you are her sister, you cannot be a witness.

But I have other witnesses too.

Greetings My Lord.

These women use the ointment from Qingzhu because they had scars on their faces too.

but they have not been attacked before.

My Lords,

I am Ran Yan's younger sister,

I can lie, but they do not need to lie for us.

There is already sufficient evidence.

Can I borrow your ointment?

My Lord!

May I borrow your candle?

There is no deer fat there nor is there that pungent smell.

It looks like she did not use any musk.

My Lord I wish to voice my injustice!

I did not put any musk in my ointments, but someone placed musk in it to frame me!

Please investigate this carefully

and show that Qingzhu clinic is innocent!

My Lord my sister was wrongly accused.

I am here.

That elephant you said had 4 tusks,

is it called Ran Yan?

Your Majesty you are so wise, I cannot deceive you at all.

I only hope that you will not kill an innocent.

Although this case seems simple, but there are underlying agendas involved.

Miss Ran Yan is skilled in examining bodies,-

compared to her, other girls are like dirt.

Yet she was wrongly dragged into the crime, I fear she is framed by the true villain.

Please can Your Majesty investigate thoroughly.

Xiao Song taught you to say that right?

That is why Your Majesty is intelligent.

Do not point at a deer and call it a horse, deceiving everyone!

Arrest her!

Stop!

Spare her!

Spare her!

A decree from His Majesty!

This is His Majesty's jade pendant.

His Majesty decrees, for Ran Yan to examine Consort Yang's body,

to personally prove her innocence!

Yes Your Majesty!

Thank you Your Majesty!

Life the blanket.

Cover her up.

Bring a lamp over.

Your Majesty.

I have finished examining her body.

I wish to listen to your answer.

Consort Yang was killed by the monarch blossom butterfly.

That is your answer to me.

If you want to more answers,

please bring a coal pot and a wooden frame

and that sole surviving blossom monarch butterfly.

Why is that?

I wish for you to see the answer with your own eyes.

Why are you heating Consort Yang's clothes and headdress over the coal pit?

You will know in a moment.

Why does it stink so much?

Your Majesty is that not the scent of that musk?

It is the smell of musk.

When Consort Yang was alive she never said she liked the smell of musk.

Why did she rub it on her clothes and jewelry?

Someone must have done it on purpose!

Who did that?

You Majesty.

I believe someone applied musk onto Consort Yang's clothes and headdress.

After applying the musk, that person only

had to wait for a chance where Consort Yang to be alone in the room

and Your Majesty was about to appear.

The first time I saw this birdcage

I found it quite strange.

That person must have hidden those butterflies within the cage,

after Consort Yang entered the room, and the butterflies could smell the musk they will be provoked

and start to attack Consort Yang.

The person who applied musk on Consort Yang's jewelry and clothes

can only be one person.

It is Consort Yang's personal attendant.

Deng Rong.

I went through so much for my goal...

I went through so much for so many years for...

All for!

Your Majesty, she is dead!

Remove her.

Went through so much for a goal?

It was the same for her too?

What is her relationship with Qiu Hua?

But why did the three did everything to enter the Xiao manor?

Lord Xiao can you answer my question?

I slept on brushwood* for 5 years

for only one mission.

It's a shame..

What is the relationship between them?

Your Majesty, as we found the killer,

my cousin and master is innocent.

can you show mercy and let them go?

As they are innocent,

then I must let them go.

Thank you Your Majesty.

[Ran Manor]

I am very thankful that you saved me at the gallows.

However what is your motive?

I thought,

sister(you) you would ask me how I got that injury on my face.

Sister?

Don't be so friendly with me.

worry that the more nice you seem on the surface, the more harder you will stab me on the back.

No matter what you motive is, I will not let you succeed in it.

Father has passed away.

Before he died,

he kept calling your name.

He knew he was wrong.

After you left,

Father regretted his decision.

Only after Father died,

did I understand,

that you are the only living family

I have in this world.
