Who’s there?

What is this place?

Why am I here?

[Save me Yue Zhi]

Save me?

Yue Zhi?

As you are unwell, go and rest.

Thank you My Lord.

T-This what's going on?

Is he alright?

Physician Qi, he suddenly went into a spasm,

and then collapsed.

What condition is he suffering from?

Lord Lu...did he..

go anywhere else?

Or perhaps was in contact with something unclean?

He didn't go anywhere.

He helped examiner Ran

examine a body.

Perhaps that body was infected with a contagious disease when alive.

Imperial Physician Qi,

why do you look so anxious?

Your Lordship,

he may have contracted the influenza and it may become an epidemic.

I am very displeased with this marriage.

As long as Song’er likes her it’s fine.

But I cannot like that Ran Yan.

It is set in stone now,

we can only accept it.

Matriarch Xiao, Master Xiao,

the Commandant of Justice Su is here on orders to seal your manor off.

Mistress! Mistress!

-Sister-in-law! -Mistress!

This...

Seal the manor immediately! Everyone be on stand for my orders.

Yes.

-What shall we do? -This....

Yue Zhi?

Strange, how does she know what my nickname is?

Imperial Physician Qi discovered that a warden from the Ministry of Justice is infected with influenza.

And he has assisted Mistress Qi in an examination of a body.

After examining him,

he found the influenza came from Lord Xiao’s late wife

and that male body.

The court of judicial review ordered for the Xiao Manor in be in temporary quarantine.

No-one can enter or leave as they want.

And examiner Ran who had contact with the body,

must be in quaratine in a separate room.

Those with contact with Examiner Ran must be in quarantine too.

Greetings Deputy chief Xiao.

How is she?

My Lord she...

Tell me.

Mistress Xiao is showing symptoms of the flu.

Can she be cured?

I have already given her some medicine,

but we still need to observe her condition.

My Lord, I bid my leave.

My Lord.

You cannot enter.

Open the door!

If we open this door and the flu gets out,

Commandant Su will kill us so please your lordship understand our situation.

This is an order!

Please reconsider Lord Xiao

Fox.

How are you feeling.

I am fine.

I am very good.

Do not worry.

Mistress Xiao is showing symptoms of the flu.

Don't worry,

I will find a way to save you.

Yesterday night, why did you call me Yue Zhi?

Yue Zhi is my nickname.

Only Xin Yi will call me that.

Then which wife do you like more?

Is it...Du Xin Yi?

Xin Yi....likes magnolia the most.

Oh yes,

did Xiang Yao die after leaving this room?

That's right.

Her heart...

is a lot more enlarged than a normal person.

Even if she suffers from a heart condition,

from a rush of blood,

it will not be so enlarged.

It is so suspicious.

My Lord, Sang Chen and I are waiting for your orders outside.

Turns out it’s Bai Yi and Sang Chen.

Sang Chen?

Song Chen is an academic within the Hongwen academy.

He should be able to find information about why organs are enlarged.

[Hongwen academy]

Bai Yi...

Has your Fei Yang (eagle) been fed?

No.

What's wrong?

Then your Fei Yang....

what does he usually like to eat?

Of course eagles like meat, how could they like vegetables?

Then I will go and buy some for him in the market.

No need.

It only likes living creatures.

Bai Yi...can you tell your eagle to not target me?!

When you find the information my Lord wants, it will let you go.

Then I will look right away.

Found it!

Are you alright?

You should be the one in trouble.

I did not mean to do it.

Calm! Be rational..

A gentleman should...

cultivate oneself through tranquility, leading a simple life will help cultivate morality.

By not pursuing profit, power one will find one’s interests and aspirations.

My Lord Fei Yang sent a message.

The book analogy of diseases states that

If unwell in appearance,

and the cause is the heart.

If it is an outside interference the heart will stop.

That means that

a person will because of certain compounds/objects,

it will cause a rash and a cough,

if it is serious, if will damage the heart,

causing it to be enlarged,

and will lead to death.

Summon Qiu Hua over.

Yes.

My Lord, Qiu Hua is here.

Greetings Lord Xiao.

You came into the Xiao family with Xiang Yao.

You should know Xiang Yao quite well.

I am very grateful to the support the Xiao family has given me,

You have something to ask?

I will tell you everything I know.

Do you know if Xiang Yao is allergic to anything?

Miss cannot take Shushuihua.

Only one sniff of it, and she will fell extremely unwell.

And gets a rash all over.

As for anything else...I do not know.

Shushuihua..

is a Chinese herb that is nourishing to the kidneys and lungs.

But on the night Xiang Yao died I could not smell any chinese/herbs in the room.

Have you told anyone that Xiang Yao is allergic to it?

Before the wedding,

because I was worried my Miss would get a rash on the wedding night

so I mentioned it to the wedding planner, Miss Chun Lai before the wedding.

I told her to not use a bath salt that that contains Shushuihua.

Bath salt?

Chun Lai?

That day...

after taking a bath,

she suddenly passed away after drinking a cup of mulled wine.

Mulled wine can make a person's heart beat faster.

Could it be..

Xiang Yao is allergic to Shushuihua.

Most bath salts contain that herb.

The killer dissolved the bath salt within her bathwater.

and then blew the bubbles produced into the room.

And this killer is Chun Lai.

Chun Lai?

I've seen her before.

She is quite intelligent.

She is the killer?

But...if I didn’t find out that there was something strange about Xiang Yao's heart

you would never be able to find the cause of death.

Give me 500 coins.

Disaster comes with unsatisfaction.

A bad end comes from greed.

Surely you know that?

My Lord, why did you come into the courtyard?

We will not be able to keep our head!

Dratted fish, you ran off so quickly!

If you come again next time,

be careful I will cook you.

Are you going to confess?

You'll be in less pain the sooner you talk.

My Lord.

She did not confess anything.

How did you kill Xiang Yao?

My Lord. I didn’t kill anyone.

How did you kill Du Xin Yi?

No my Lord!

I didn't kill anyone, I am merely a servant.

Where do I have the courage to kill anyone?

This is something we found in Chun Lai's room.

Is there nothing else suspicious?

Haven't found any yet.

Perhaps we wronged her.

Let her go.

Yes.

Get up.

Come.

Thank you My Lord!

From the Neiwei department...

Why do I feel as if I heard Fei Yang calling me again?

Bai Yi! Team Leader Bai, hurry and wake up!

Your Fei Yang is harassing me again!

Bai Yi!

Whose a harasser?

He is!

I am! I am!

Bai Yi Team Leader Bai hurry and welcome him!

Don't let him scratch my hand again!

Stop wrapping yourself around me!

You're not a monkey!

Bai Yi hurry and go to the autposy room in the Ministry of Justice

to get the contents of the stomachs of Du Xin Yi and the other body with Sang Chen.

My Lord told us to steal something from the Ministry of Justice.

I will never do anything as underhanded as stealing!

Fei Yang!

I am willing'to sacrifice myself for His Lordship!

The Imperial Guards have sealed the entire ministry.

How can we get in?

Why did you bring me here?

There is a secret passageway to the Ministry?

Only Lord Xiao and a few officials from the ministry know about it.

What if outsiders know?

We kill them.

I am counted as one of you right?

You walk, walk and keep walking, and like that you and I are separated.

[Autopsy room]

Wear it.

I will not go in.

I will keep a watch out for you.

You go in.

Want me to bring Fei Yang over? Hurry up!

Well....I am afraid of dead bodies!

I am still..

Why do you have so much to complain?

You know I am afraid of bodies and faint when I see one.

How could you let me in?

You do not need to look at it. Just fetch something for me.

What?

A flask labeled as food.

Where is it?

Leave it to me.

I am sorry Mistress Du.

I wonder how that girl is right now.

The news is completely sealed off

And we are in quarantine here.

There is no way we can ask around.

I hope that girl is alright.

Although my body is dead, but my spirit will never die,

-My soul will still remains a hero amongst the dead!* -Uncle Wu.

Is he alright?

Uncle Wu.

I am fine, sorry for intruding on you.

What’s going on? Aren't we in quarantine?

H-How did you get in?

Like the birds flying west, beautiful like the eagle.

We climbed over the wall.

Right, right.

Why did you do that?

His Lordship suspects there is something up with the epidemic.

So he specially sent us to fetch two items

so Uncle Wu can examine it.

I have a flask here too.

[Food]

Food?

Within these flasks contains the contents of the stomach of Du Xin Yi and a burned body.

l-ls it not food?

It is food.

It is only food that the victim ate before they died.

W-Why didn't you say earlier?

Uncle Wu, time is short hurry and examine it.

Sure. I will begin right away!

Is it alright if we leave him, here?

These two bowls contain the compounds that was extracted

from the contents of the stomachs of Du Xing Yi and that sorched body.

As long as we feed it to these two rabbits

and then observe it.

I understand now.

If they were infected with influenza

and they were not cremated

then the virus would remain in their bodies.

If the rabbits are unwell after eating the contaminated food

it means that burned body was infected.

The virus can contaminate neighboring bodies tdd.

If the rabbit that ate Du Xin Yi's food and was not infected

it proves there is no epidemic.

That's right.

Now...we need to observe these two rabbits.

My Lord.

We are in trouble.

What happened?

The Crown Prince and one of his eunuchs have been diagnosed for being infected by the disease.

His Majesty has ordered the entire East Palace* to be sealed.

And they have burned all the clothes they wore.

And it has been confirmed that they were infected by Mistress Xiao.

Ran Yan has never visited the palace,

when did she see the the eunuch?!

It was rumored that the Crown Prince and his eunuch went to observe the city in disguise

and met Mistress Xiao within the Liu Manor. I *

After she married Lord Xiao,

that Eunuch delivered a gift to Mistress Xiao

on the orders of the Crown Prince.

Miss Ran.

greetings Eunuch Wang.

The Crown Prince knows that you married yesterday

so ordered me to deliver a congratulatory gift to you.

This jade was made from the jadestone you helped His Highness win.

In order to express his gratitude,

he ordered a skilled master to sculpture a jade pendant out of it

and give it to you as a gift.

Such exquisite handiwork.

Help me thank His Highness for me.

Also, Imperial Physician Qi will on the orders of His Majesty

enter the palace to examine the Crown Prince tomorrow.

Confucius said,

One can become a moral person with these 5 traits.

He asked which 5?

Confucius said seriousness, generosity, honesty, diligence & kindness.

If you are serious, you will not be mocked, generosity will bring you respect.

S-Someone!

Bai Yi!

The one that died was the one who ate the food within the burned corpse.

And that one...

ate the food within Du Xin Yi's stomach.

That means...

There is no epidemic!

I examined the contents of the stomach of that burned corpse

and discovered there were a few medicinal herbs.

Medicinal herbs.

Was there a problem with that?

Those leaves can make a person run a fever

Pilea sinofasciata can cause a cough when consumed.

Of course..

there are a few herbs I was unable to identify.

What I can confirm is

if you mix them all together and consume it in high amounts,

it will create an illusion that the victim died due to influenza!

Then who created this medicine.

What is his motive for doing that?

That will depend on whether your Lord Xiao can find the truth or not.

Green dress, oh green dress, it is now buried within the yellow mud.

Oh pain, I feel so much pain, when can this pain halt!

This rabbit died so pitifully,

why don’t we give it a grand burial?

I’ll inform His Lordship.

Why don't we bury him later?

I suddenly remembered that I have a few accounts to check.

Then Uncle Wu..

why don't we bury it in your courtyard?

I feel hungry again, I must got to the kitchens to find something to eat.

Green dress, oh green dress, it is now buried within the yellow mud.

Oh pain, I feel so much pain, when can this pain halt!

What’s wrong?

There is no epidemic!

I followed His Lordship's orders to let Uncle Wu examine the contents of the stomachs of the victims.

And we confirmed there is no epidemic.

It seems someone purposefully created this poison

so that when the victim consumes it, it is as if they had contracted influenza.

There seems to be a conspiracy behind this.

First we must confirm

the identity of that burned corpse.

The Chief of the Ministry of Justice got permission from His Majesty for you to investigate it with me.

I was being careless.

Before I thought the black on the teeth was due to the soot,

If soot had stained the teeth

you can rub most of it off.

But the black on the teeth of this body

cannot be rubbed off.

Which means his teeth was black to start with.

What kind of person has black teeth?

Perhaps he constantly consumes something that would make one's teeth black?

And that food when it stains the teeth,

it is hard to clean off.

Areca palm.

If you constantly consume Area palm, your teeth will become black.

Areca palms are a rare fruit.

Only ministers who are 7th rank or above can consume it.

Could he be the family of a minister?

Or perhaps...he is a minister?

Within these few months,

did a minister go missing at court?

Greetings Lord Xiao, Physician Qin has an urgent private matter to handle.

My name is Qi Huanzhi I am here to replace Physican Qin.

Imperial Physican Qin!

Physician Qin likes Areca palms all his teeth are black.

But didn't he retire and return home?

Why was he burned alive?

Hasn't Imperial Physician Qin health been good?

Are you alright?

The Imperial Physicians are useless.

My condition didn't improve even after taking Physician Qin's medicine.

Mistress Xiao is showing symptoms of the flu.

Imperial Qin retired due to illness,

Imperial Physician Qi replaced him.

After that official from the Justice ministry collapsed,

it was Physician Qi who confirmed that

he was suffering from influenza.

And then ordered the Court of Judicial review to seal off the Xiao Manor.

Everything was related to Imperial Physican Qi.

But what is his motive for doing that?

He has no history with Examiner Ran, why would he hurt her?

The Crown Prince and one of his eunuchs have been diagnosed for being infected by the disease.

Also, Imperial Physician Qi will on the orders of His Majesty enter the palace to examine the Crown Prince tomorrow.

His target is not fox,

but the Crown Prince.

Your Highness...

you must continue taking the medicine for this illness.

Your Highness.

How dare you Xiao Song!

Deputy Xiao,

what do you mean by this?

Imperial Physician Qi,

asked me to give this gift to you.

My Lord this is...

Imperial Physician Qi you do not remember?

But my friend wishes for me to return this gift in my hand

to it's rightful owner.

Xiao Song.

Who is this friend you are talking about?

Your Highness, the friend I am talking about

is Imperial Physician Qin.

Imperial Physician Qin?

Has he not returned home due to illness?

Is that what you think too Physician Qi?

I am afraid..

I do not know what you mean.

Your Highness...

so you wish for me to tell you a story?

Please speak Lord Xiao.

The story began half a year ago.

Imperial Physician Qin after succumbing to the temptation of gold,

to produce a poison that when consumed will make it’s victims seem as if they have influenza.

After Physician Qin found out the target of this medicine,

he began to grow afraid.

I believe the mastermind noticed his hesitancy

and so threatened him.

The 2nd wife I married, Du Xin Yi,

before she was buried I asked Physician Qin to examine her body to see

she died from poisoning.

Imperial Physician Qin wanted to use this chance

to hide the poison within Du Xin Yi's mouth so that it will be buried with her

and the medicine will disappear from the world.

After Physician Qin used the excuse that he had a private matter

to take a leave of absence,

he was unwilling to give up the product of his experiments

so before he left he decided to still the medicine from the Xiao Manor.

The culprit wanted to steal that poison

but Physician Qin was unwilling.

And so the two of them got into a bitter struggle

which led to an aggressive brawl.

In desperation, he poured the poison into his mouth.

In anger, the killer raised the candle holder and tried to burn Physican Qin

although Physician Qin struggled against him with his life,

but in the end he died because of that candle holder.

The killer hurriedly burned Physician Qin and hid his body within Du Xin Yi's coffin.

Then hurriedly placed the candle holder into Du Xin Yi's hand.

He thought no-one would know,

but did not expect I would suddenly open the coffin to examine the body.

Then that killer is..

The killer is... Imperial Physican Qi!

My Lord.

I am a physician who saves lives,

how could I be someone who commits murder and burglary?

Because you felt that Du Xin Yi’s coffin was the safest place.

After you got your hands on the poison, you started to produce vast amounts of it.

And at this moment,

I wanted to find the true reason behind the deaths of my two wives.

And my 3rd wife, Ran Yan,

examined Physician Qin’s body

so you decided to use this chance to start an epidemic.

My Lord I am innocent!

First you fed the poison secretly to that warden

so that he who has contact with Physician Qin's body falls ill.

Then you confirmed that he has contracted the influenza.

So got the Court of Judicial review to

seal off the Xiao Manor.

Then place Ran Yan under quarantine.

But how will it benefit me?

Your motive was to use Ran Yan as a front by saying she passed the disease to the Crown Prince

so that you can secretly poison the Crown Prince!

So this medicine has...

Your Highness that is true.

I have always been curious

as to how Imperial Physican Qin managed to get blood

on that candle stick.

And then I got the idea that

perhaps that bloodstain did not belong to Imperial Physician Qin.

Rather during his struggle with the culprit to get that poison,

he managed to scratch that killer!

Imperial Physician Qi...

what else do you have to say?

Your Highness,

he hid poison in his mouth,

and already died.

Minister, Xiao Song...

greets Your Majesty.

Rise.

Thank you Your Majesty.

Let me ask you, the role of Heaven's Son (Emperor)?

I...do not dare to say.

Heaven’s son, if he follows Heaven's will, will be supported by the people.

If he does not, he will be abandoned by his people.

So deserved respect (by his people).

Once you plan to ascend the throne, you must know the responsibilities with it.

In your eyes

do you think the Crown Prince can bear that?

If the source is peaceful, the stream will be clean. If the root is secure, leaves will flourish on the plant.

If the heart is probably trained, it will reflect in the exterior, his form will be straight and upright.*

It seems...

his journey from Crown Prince to Emperor,

requires a lot more training,

and his path there will be longer.

If a tree wishes to grow,

it's roots must be secure,

if you wish for the stream to travel further,

you must clear the path at the source,

if you wish for the country to be at peace, there must be an accumulation of magnanimity and morality.

Xiao Song,

you saved the Crown Prince.

Apart from returning your position back to you,

I can also give you another reward in addition to it.

I do not dare to ask for that.

There is nothing else you want?

Fine then.

As that is so, you do not need to force yourself.

When you need it,

come and inform me.

Thank you Your Majesty.

Deputy Head of the Ministry of Justice Xiao Song shall return to his position from today.

And the quarantine is lifted.

Wait.

-Mistress. -Mistress.

Why did you open the door?

Mistress,

His Majesty has lifted the quarantine, you may come and go as you wish.

Good.

If there is nothing else, I bid my leave.
