They keep order.

Without them things get really crazy.

Off-meter electricity, food, water, and a cell phone

that's what you need to survive.

Passages, alleys, and tunnels connect the Fourth World.

You have to think fast and be smart.

Sometimes all you can do is run.

(contemplative music)

Normally people are afraid to come in here.

That's why I was surprised when Hudson showed up.

- Oh my gosh, man, this is priceless.

She really wants him to be successful.

This is Laz. He loved and admired Hud's grandfather.

I think he thought Hud would be similar.

Laz said that inside that cool, tough, filmmaker

is a hurting insecure boy.

- [Hudson] Here we are at a Fourth World crime scene.

I never get over the silence.

Did you notice none of them are crying?

No one comes if they do.

And I just think about the pain and suffering

that's waiting for these children.

And Rubilyn is just one of many.

- [Rubilyn] Genghis said that

every escape plan has three elements:

knowledge, timing, and running really fast.

I grew up running.

Dad said I was the best runner in the slum.

The police could never catch us.

Dad didn't trust cops, or anyone else.

I wonder if he would trust Genghis.

- And I uh...

I was wondering if you might wanna help me fund the rest?

- [Rubilyn] I realized that everyone needs a reason to live,

or, as Genghis would say, an angle.

I mean, why else stay alive?

Smidge loves money.

It makes her feel safe.

Something she can control, you know?

Some of the money was disappearing

so one night she waited up with a bat.

And it's not disappearing anymore.

It's fun to see Genghis so excited.

He really loves business.

He has one brother that he sneaks out to visit sometimes.

But other than that, he's kind of a workaholic.

Apollo and Matches,

they find purpose in exploding stuff, being crazy.

They wanted to see if they could light a dog on fire.

They had a bucket of water ready but Genghis said no.

And me, well when I see people laughing and clapping

I feel good inside and things feel less dark,

at least for a little while.

I think I know what I'm gonna be when I'm older.

I want to be a singer.

Everyone has a reason for living.

Something that gets you up in the morning

and keeps you going. For us it's the slum circus.

(phone ringing)

- This is Hud.

You found her, you found Ruby?

Take me to her? - Yes.

- To the girl? - Yes.

- Alright, alright.

(upbeat music)

- Now everyone, announcing star singer, Rubilyn.

(upbeat music)

- Yeah, this is Hud.

I finally showed your trailer to my boss.

She thought it was great.

I've been trying to fight this war for years.

Sometimes I think I'm making a difference.

And I still miss Daddy.

- When I think of these children that have

been abandoned and they've been let loose

and some of them even to the point

where they were old enough that they could remember it,

and they're old enough that they can remember

their mom or their dad saying that I don't want you anymore,

and they're old enough to remember being abandoned.

And so why do you come?

Why are you here?

Why'd you come all the way around

the world to love on these kids?

And Scripture says, "While we were

yet sinners, Christ died for us."

And so in the moment that I was kicking and screaming

and yelling at God and saying I don't love You,

I don't want to be with You,

I don't want to have anything to do with You.

It says in that condition that's where I was

when Christ came and He died for me.

- We get to be the hands and feet of Jesus

with these orphans and vulnerable children.

So what's really exciting is to hear everybody

this morning as we're saying goodbye

say see you on Sunday and knowing that on Sunday

when we all show up for church

everyone's gonna be a lot more connected.

- His face just lit up and he just ran to me

you know, just dropped his stuff

and just kinda ran to me and I was like,

I am getting so much love right now.

- To hear from them their little sweet words

telling me that they love me...

Priceless.
