Court Lady

Ep53

There was a woman

who sacrificed her life for your bright future.

You only need to enjoy it,

yet you took the road of self-destruction.

If there really is destiny in this world,

there is also conscience.

You'll get hurt easily with a conscience

or even lose your life.

Dig a hole and bury him.

Your Majesty. You're awake, Your Majesty.

Your Majesty.

You are finally awake.

Rest assured, Your Majesty.

Following your order,

our son King Zhou is now in charge of state affairs.

Everything is under control, Your Majesty.

Your Majesty.

Your Majesty. Your Majesty!

Doctor He.

Can you use acupuncture therapy again?

His Majesty is too weak.

Using acupuncture may put his life at risk.

Without Consort Yan's warrant,

no one can get out.

That's ridiculous!

-Let go of me. -Matron Fu.

It's no use getting angry with me.

The only way is to ask for Consort Yan's permission.

I have something urgent to do.

Let me out!

If you insist on disobeying the rule,

don't blame us for being rude to you.

You!

General.

Do you think

His Majesty will wake up?

His Majesty is blessed by God.

We don't need to worry about this.

Just do your own job.

General Dugu.

General Dugu.

General Dugu.

You have to help me this time.

Matron Fu, take your time.

As long as I am here,

you don't need to worry.

What...

General.

General.

General Dugu.

General!

General!

General!

General!

General's injury worsened.

Call a doctor!

Mother.

You're here.

Ma Haihu is missing.

Did you do it?

Maybe he is drunk somewhere.

Did you

do it?

No.

Do you need me to help you look for him?

No.

I've sent Haizhe and others on it.

Why do you want to see me?

I have good news.

Congratulations, General Yan.

You got promoted again.

From now on,

you'll be in charge of the Imperial Guards.

I won't let Your Highness down.

Your Highness.

Doctor Yan.

Congratulations, General Zhong.

But leading the Imperial Guards is no easy task.

Can I recommend someone as your deputy?

Deputy?

A person recommended by Doctor Yan

must be trustworthy.

May I ask who you recommend?

Come in.

Your Highness.

Good.

Yan Zifang is sharp and efficient.

He will be of great help.

You two will manage the Imperial Guards together from now on.

Dugu Deguan enjoys great support of the Imperial Guards.

If we take over the Imperial Guards now,

not only do we need the transfer order,

but we'll also need to make an example of someone.

If you want to do that,

I have just the right person for you.

Do you like it?

I spent a lot of effort getting it.

I don't like it. It's too scary.

You don't like it?

Don't make a long face.

Look at me.

I'm always happy

and sunny.

You are just worried about me.

That's why you look happy to cheer me up.

Don't you also have a lot on your mind?

My mother is dead.

The Crown Prince is being punished.

King Han is behind bars.

My father is so sick.

Chuling.

This is my home.

But why am I getting scared of this place?

Every time you leave me

when you get off duty,

I am really scared.

Don't be.

I'll ask my superior today

to let me stay and guard this place.

I won't leave you for one second.

Arrest him.

Chuling!

Yan Zifang. How dare you!

Why are you arresting him?

I'm sorry.

I can't tell you about the case.

If you want to know,

please ask Consort Yan.

Yan Zifang.

If it wasn't for Chuling's big brother

protecting you in front of my father,

you'd still be a pirate wanted by the Court.

You're so ungrateful!

Xinnan.

Don't worry about me.

Protect yourself.

Chuling.

Take him away.

Matron Fu. Matron Fu.

Guard Sheng was arrested.

Who took him?

The new Vice Commandant of the Imperial Guards.

Yan Zifang.

Yan Zifang?

What did Sheng Chuling do wrong?

Someone reported that

Sheng Chuling did an inside job

and fornicated with you, which disrupted the harem.

Bullshit!

Father ordered you to be in charge of the harem.

Now someone evil is ruining a princess's reputation.

You didn't punish this person

but intruded my place and arrested someone else.

I'll see how you will explain it

to Father when he wakes up.

I will explain it to His Majesty.

The one ruining your reputation is not the whistleblower

but yourself, Princess Xinnan.

How can you say this?

Because I saw it with my own eyes.

I...

Sheng Chuling and I

are not that shameless as you think.

At first,

I wanted to let you save face.

I didn't expect that

you came to me and made a scene.

Well,

don't resent me for it.

Bring her in.

Say it.

As long as Sheng Chuling is on duty,

Her Highness would often sneak out

with Zhenzhu at night.

Zhenzhu must know it.

Zhenzhu?

Seize Zhenzhu.

Yes, Your Highness.

Don't touch her!

Let her go.

I know nothing.

I only know that Her Highness is innocent.

Crafty, indeed.

Flog her.

-Yes, Your Highness. -Yes, Your Highness.

-Consort Yan! -Your Highness.

Stop it now!

Stop it!

Stop it!

Right, I like Sheng Chuling.

But we didn't fornicate.

Father promised to let me marry him.

His Majesty didn't mention it to me.

You can ask Father when he is awake.

I am in charge when His Majesty is not awake.

A princess dating a guard in secret.

You are a disgrace to the royal family.

But it's not entirely your fault.

Not only did your servants not stop you,

but they also helped you hide it.

Zhenzhu's crime is inexcusable.

Flog her to death now!

No!

No!

Stop it!

I command you to stop it!

Flog me if you want!

Zhenzhu!

Zhenzhu!

Be gentle.

If something happens to Princess Xinnan...

-You'll hurt Consort Yan's reputation. -Let me go!

The history book in the future can't say that

King Zhou's mother was cruel and heartless

who harmed a princess.

I forbid you from flogging her.

Stop it!

Zhenzhu!

Zhenzhu!

Stop it!

Stop!

Release the Princess.

Zhenzhu.

Zhenzhu.

Zhenzhu.

Matron Fu.

Don't you think you're a bit late?

What did Zhenzhu do wrong?

Why was she flogged to death?

Princess Xinnan is dating a guard in secret.

Zhenzhu failed to report it.

It's an outrageous crime.

The conduct of the Princess

should be investigated by the Palace Etiquette Service.

Zhenzhu's wrongdoing should be punished by the Chief of Palace Surveillance.

Are you taking the lead

in breaking the rules in the Palace?

What I did to Zhenzhu

is indeed too irrational.

Send my order.

Give her a proper funeral.

Yes, Your Highness.

Are you happy now?

Apart from Zhenzhu,

Guard Sheng is also involved in this case.

I hope when he is being interrogated,

I can be there too,

in case there's another unjust death.

Indeed.

You have killed Zhenzhu.

You can't kill Sheng Chuling in the same way.

Sheng Chuling is an imperial guard.

The Imperial Guards Station's business

can't be meddled by the six services, right?

Teaching the Princess manners is the Palace Etiquette Service's business.

The key of this case is about the Princess.

So this is the six services' business.

If Your Highness wants to set the rules in the harem,

I think you must also obey the rules.

This is about the Princess's reputation.

It's the Palace Etiquette Service's duty.

Please allow it, Your Highness.

Please allow it, Your Highness.

Inform the Imperial Guards Station.

During the interrogation of Sheng Chuling,

Matron Fu is allowed to be present.

Yes, Your Highness.

The propriety of the Princess

is the duty of the Palace Etiquette Service.

With today's scandal,

your service should take responsibility.

Someone.

Here.

Lock Matron Wu up.

Yes, Your Highness.

Matron Fu.

Are you going to play favorites and protect her?

I neglected my duty. I'm willing to be punished.

The Princess made such a mistake.

She must be bewitched by Sheng Chuling.

How many times have I told you?

It has nothing to do with him.

It's me. I did it!

Punish me if you want.

Good.

Someone.

-Here. -Here.

Lock the Princess up.

Let her reflect on herself.

-Yes, Your Highness. -Yes, Your Highness.

Go.

Your Highness, after you.

Matron Wu, after you.

Your Highness.

General Yan. I have promised Matron Fu.

During the interrogation of Sheng Chuling,

she is allowed to be present.

Things have changed a bit.

Sheng Chuling hit the guards who were watching him

and ran away.

Ran away?

What a violent and vicious man!

He's too dangerous.

I have issued a warrant.

If he dares to run away again,

he'll be executed on-site.

That's ridiculous!

Sheng Chuling hasn't confessed yet.

Why would he run away?

Besides, the Imperial Guards Station is heavily guarded.

How could he escape?

Our station has no duty to explain it to the six services.

Your Highness. I will leave now.

Yan Zifang.

Back then, your father was a man with integrity.

It's exactly because he didn't yield to the powerful

that he experienced misfortune.

Even now,

when commoners mention him,

they still admire and respect him.

No matter what your reason is,

I hope you won't disappoint him.

Disappoint?

About the marriage he planned for me when he was alive,

who broke it

and disappointed him?

Now I have thought it through.

Since we can't be together,

we'll go our separate ways.

As for which way is right

and which one proves to be the path to success,

we'll see.

Have you found out

when purchasers can go out?

Consort Yan hasn't given permission

for purchasers to go out of the Palace.

The Imperial Guards all listen to Consort Yan now.

They guard every door in the Palace.

I guess

it will be stricter than before.

Will something happen to Matron Wu?

Relax, I am still here as a directress.

I worry Consort Yan won't give up.

If she transfers Matron Wu to the prison in the Palace Penal Service,

then Matron Wu will suffer.

So the Ritual Reception Office has to be careful

about your work these days.

You just asked about

when purchasers can go out of the Palace.

Do you want to send a message to the outside world?

Do you have any idea?

Although purchasers can't go out,

the rewards to noblewomen

are still sent out as usual.

Right.

The Duchess of Lu's birthday is coming up later this month.

As ordered by the Ministry of Rites,

the Sewing Office should've completed

the embroidery of Pine and Cranes.

They should be collecting this today.

But to deliver the embroidery,

Consort Yan must be

sending attendants who she can trust.

It's fine as long as it can be delivered to Duke of Lu's Mansion.

Attendant Wang.

The embroidery of Pine and Cranes

is ready for Duchess of Lu's birthday.

No need. Consort Yan said

all rewards to noblewomen are suspended for now.

Let's all follow the rules now.

The rewards will be given when His Majesty is healed.

Even embroideries can't leave the Palace.

Looks like

Princess Xinnan's method is the only way.

Some in the Palace like to fly kites?

Flying kites means releasing bad luck.

It's a way to pray for the sick in the Palace.

But with so many kites today,

it's not right.

Go. Confiscate those kites.

Yes, sir.

What are you doing?

Hurry. Higher. Higher.

Hurry.

Hurry.

Cut the line.

Who asked you to fly kites?

What's wrong with flying kites?

We are praying for His Majesty.

Wish His Majesty a speedy recovery.

Is this a crime?

When General Dugu was the head of the Imperial Guards,

he didn't allow you to offend court ladies like this for no reason.

Bad luck, go away.

Illnesses will be gone with the wind.

His Majesty will recover soon.

You!

General. They cut the string.

Many kites are out of the Palace.

These symbols seem strange.

When we were at sea in the past,

every sect

has its own unique codes.

Are these codes?

What do they mean?

I'm only guessing that they are codes.

I'm not sure.

It's better to be careful.

I'll ask Consort Yan to send the order.

No kite will be allowed in the Palace,

in case they send messages with it.

One.

Two.

Two.

One.

Two.

General.

This is brought by men monitoring the Palace from outside.

Two.

One.

Chuling is in trouble.

General Yan is appreciated by Consort Yan.

Your future is very promising.

Drinks on me, General.

I'm too tired today.

Maybe next time.

Alright.

General, we'll leave now.

Where is Chuling?

You already knew it?

So the kites flown out of the Palace

did hold secrets.

If you want to know where Sheng Chuling is,

do as I say.

Come here.

You scared me.

You weren't seen by others on your way here, right?

Dare I to be seen?

You are not afraid of anything

and offended Consort Yan to the utmost.

If Consort Yan knows that

I snuck out to see you late at night,

she'd make me suffer.

You want to see me at this hour.

What's the matter?

How's your relationship with Concubine Qiao?

I've told you everything.

Aren't you gonna let me go?

Tomorrow night at eleven.

Fushui Villa.

Don't be late.

If anything happens to Chuling,

I will definitely make you pay.

As long as you can be there on time,

he will be fine.

Your Highness. Your Highness.

What's wrong?

Did Matron Fu ask you to bring me some food?

Matron Fu didn't ask me to bring food.

She asked me to give you this.

What?

A knife?

What does she mean?

It's fine if she won't save me,

but does she want me to kill myself?

You go and tell her that

even if I am dead,

Consort Yan still won't spare her.

Plum blossom is Yueyang's favorite.

Concubine Li, you are so dexterous.

Your daughter Princess Yueyang is so beautiful.

When she grows up,

and His Majesty assigns a good marriage for her,

you can enjoy your life then.

But we don't know

when His Majesty will recover.

Look at Princess Xinnan.

She was so favored back then.

But after His Majesty fell ill,

she now suffers a lot.

Watch your mouth.

You'd be in trouble if someone heard you.

Consort Yan is torturing Princess Xinnan.

With this precedent,

the life of future princesses won't be easy.

No way.

Xinnan was punished for making a mistake.

When King Liang was beating Xinnan,

Sheng Chuling came forward to protect her.

Everyone knows about this.

The late Empress didn't punish them.

It means she gave consent to their relationship.

His Majesty assigned Sheng Chuling to protect Xinnan.

It's obvious he'll grant their marriage.

Even for things so certain,

Consort Yan can still find fault with it.

If Consort Yan really makes Xinnan suffer a lot,

then which princess can lead an easy life

under her management?

What can we do?

Find a way for Consort Yan to forgive Princess Xinnan.

I dare not set myself against her.

Not going against her,

but begging her.

Concubines in the harem can show respect for her

and ask for mercy.

In the past,

only the late Empress could enjoy an honor like this.

This would make Consort Yan very happy.

If you can play up to her

and impress her,

it's also good for Princess Yueyang.

What do you think?

Please give Princess Xinnan

a chance to correct her mistake.

Please have mercy, Your Highness.

Please get up, you all.

I know

you feel sorry for Princess Xinnan.

I'm also the same.

She only needs to reflect on herself for a few days.

I won't make her suffer.

With your mercy,

we hold the utmost respect for you.

Your Highness. After you.

What happened?

A sharp knife was discovered in Her Highness's room.

Her Highness was locked up in her room.

We don't know when she hid the knife.

We fear Her Highness may remain disobedient

and want to find a chance to get back at you.

Xinnan.

How will you explain it?

It's easy to find an excuse to incriminate someone.

If you say this was discovered in my room,

then fine.

Consort Yan. I knew you wouldn't spare me.

According to you,

are we setting you up?

I have no one to turn to.

There are so many of you

and also Imperial Guards.

What do I need a knife for?

Give you something to talk about?

You framed me up.

You!

What?

Alright.

Concubine Qiao. Dear all.

Please go home now.

-Yes, Your Highness. -Yes, Your Highness.

With the best of intentions,

I wanted you to reflect on yourself at your own place.

It seems like

you don't appreciate it.

How about we move her to the Palace Etiquette Service?

Didn't she do this because

she wants to be in the Palace Etiquette Service?

It'll be easier for you

to communicate with Matron Fu

in the Palace Etiquette Service, right?

Speaking of discipline,

the Housekeeping Service is the harshest.

Judging by the symbol on this knife,

it came from the storehouse in the Palace,

which is managed by the Housekeeping Service.

Look.

The Housekeeping Service is also fishy.

General Yan, do you have any idea?

Your Highness.

Just in time, General Zhong.

General Yan discovered a sharp knife at the Princess's place.

I'm asking him for ideas.

I believe

we should first interview related staff

and get to know the truth.

Right.

Hiding sharp knives in the Palace

falls under the jurisdiction

of the Imperial Guards Station.

I'll take the related staff away

to find out the truth now.

I will get back to Your Highness sooner or later.

It's not a good move.

Why not?

It's fine if you take those maid

and court ladies to your station.

But the Princess is involved in this.

Her Highness is a royal.

Will she also be taken to the Imperial Guards Station?

So General Yan doesn't want to offend Her Highness.

Then I am different from you.

I only want to find out the truth of this case.

Alright. Stop arguing, you two.

The Imperial Guards Station is not dangerous.

Why can't she go there?

If she didn't plot anything,

it won't hurt to go there.

Take the Princess to the Imperial Guards Station. Take good care of her.

Yes, Your Highness.

Take her away.

Your Highness, after you.

No matter how foolish Xinnan is,

she wouldn't hide that knife.

This is clearly a set-up.

Princess Xinnnan will be interrogated at the Imperial Guards Station.

Tell Matron Fu at once.

Consort Yan is hurting her like this.

What about my daughter in the future?

Hurry. Get more water.

Move faster.

Hurry.

General Dugu just died,

and the Imperial Guards Station is on fire.

Is this caused by the late general's anger?

Stop that nonsense.

The Princess is still in there.

If we can't rescue her,

our station will be

taking the heat from higher-ups.

What?

The Princess was burned to death?

I have tried my best to put out the fire.

But the fire was too strong. Her Highness...

How could you let this happen?

Why is there suddenly a fire?

And it happened to

burn down the room the Princess was in?

It's General Yan's fault.

I was interrogating

those court ladies and maids.

I gave an order

to General Yan, asking him to guard the Princess.

But...

-But... -Since General Zhong blamed this

on me,

I have to tell Your Highness

the truth.

What truth?

The fire happened

and it got so strong

because there was a batch of spirits

that wasn't supposed to be there.

You can't drink at the Imperial Guards Station!

General Zhong drinks at every meal.

And he cherishes those spirits very much.

He put those in the best room

so that he can enjoy them.

With the Princess's status,

she was surely put in the best room

to wait for her interrogation.

Unexpectedly,

the dry weather caused the fire.

The fire couldn't be put out since there was alcohol.

The Princess was burned to death.

The...

The alcohol was from my subordinates

who insisted on giving it to me.

They said it was a gift for my promotion.

I intended to send it back

after a while.

Stop talking.

Your Highness.

It was your order to lock the Princess in the Imperial Guards Station.

General Zhong was also promoted by you.

If this thing gets out,

people will pin her death on Your Highness.

Then...

Attendant Yu, don't worry.

I have issued a gag order at the Imperial Guards Station.

As for the Princess,

she was afraid of her plot being exposed after the interrogation.

Dreading punishment, she set herself on fire in panic.

Set herself on fire to avoid punishment?

Rest assured, Your Highness.

I'll arrange some maids serving the Princess

to testify.

In this case,

don't mention the possession of spirits anymore.

Thank you, Your Highness.

Where is the Princess's body?

Her body is right in that room,

though it has been burned into a pile of charcoal.

Have you checked it? Is that really her body?

General Zhong, don't make a mistake

because you were drunk.

When it was being examined,

General Yan was also there.

Even if I was mistaken,

General Yan won't make such a mistake.

No matter what the body is like,

prepare for her funeral at once,

in case people start to gossip in the Palace.

Yes, Your Highness.

Leave it to General Yan.

I will make sure to handle it properly.

Princess Xinnan is dead just like that.

What a pity!

Yeah.

What did you say?

Xinnan is dead?

How could this be? How could this be?

The last time I saw her,

she was still alive and kicking.

Where is Father?

He loves Xinnan the most.

He must be heartbroken now.

His Majesty is sick and unconscious. How could he...

Father is unconscious?

Why can't you just shut up?

Let's go. Let's go.

Go.

Don't go.

Tell us what happened!

How did Xinnan die?

How is my father now?

Stop there! Stop!

Your Highness.

Your Highness.

Come sit.

Sit.

It's okay.

I was wondering

why Father had been ignoring me

for so long since I got here.

Even a reprimand or condemnation would be great.

At least I could see him.

As it turns out, he is sick.

But why do I feel

this is getting stranger?

What...

Your Highness. Your Highness.

Your Highness.

Um...

I know nothing.

The higher-ups' order.

Those giving away messages would be executed.

I...

I don't want you to send me any messages.

I just want to ask

why the food is getting less.

There are two of us.

With only half a bowl of porridge,

do you want to starve us?

Your Highness.

Time to eat.

Are you done?

Yes.

How mysterious the higher-ups are!

To starve them to death,

just don't give them any food.

Why give them half a bowl of porridge?

What do you know?

If they are starved to death in prison,

the higher-ups must take responsibility.

But it'd be different if they give them little food.

When humans are starving,

even fathers and sons will fight each other

for that half bowl of porridge,

let alone those two brothers who have a history.

They want them to fight in the prison

so that both will get hurt?

It'd be best if they are both dead.

You're right on time.

Where is Chuling?

Where is King Qin?

Where are the codes and methods

you use to communicate with those in the Palace?

All here.

Give me that.

Do you think I'm stupid?

If I don't see my brother,

the deal will be off.

Bring him out.

Brother, go.

Don't mind me.

Shut up.

Release him.

Give me that.

You have so many people here.

There are only two of us.

There's a cliff in the back.

You worry I may use tricks?

I worry that you may use tricks. Let him go.

Let him go forward.

Target his back with arrows.

Stop.

Sheng Chumu.

Throw it to me.

Or I'll order the arrows to be released.

The deal will be off.

Release.

Go!

Brother, run!

Get him!

Brother!

Brother!

Chuling!

Brother! Go!

Brother!

Chuling!

Brother!

Brother! Go!

Brother! Brother!

Young Master, this was found on the mountainside.

It must be stuck there when he was falling.

It belongs to Sheng Chumu.

It's Fu Rou's work.

Where is his body?

We haven't found it.

But your shot went straight for his heart.

Falling off such a high cliff,

he must be dead.

When Sheng Chumu was Lu Yunji's lieutenant,

he also fell off a cliff once.

Everyone thought he was dead.

However, not only was he alive,

but he also almost destroyed Lu Yunji.

We can't take it lightly. Keep looking.

His body must be found.

Yes, sir.

Although Sheng Chumu is taken care of,

we still haven't found out where King Qin is.

And Sheng Chuling has escaped.

What should we do next?

King Qin is a royal.

We need to keep a low-key when looking for him.

But Sheng Chuling is a fugitive.

Searching for a fugitive is much more justifiable.
