Oops! The king is in love

Episode 8

Master,

what I can figure out now

is to get the copy of the paper.

I don't have any other solution.

That's right.

The imperial examination is an important thing for a country.

There shouldn't be any mistakes.

I'm worried about you when I think of it.

Zhixia.

Hey.

Why do you freeze?

It's really you.

You're not dreaming. It's me for real.

I haven't seen you dressed up like this.

I mean, the imperial examination is about to start.

How come you have time to play the Chinese zither here?

How easygoing you are!

If it isn't for saving grandfather and you,

I wouldn't have to pursue the high official positions and riches.

What I want is to live in the society with my sword.

I've been reading books for a day.

I deserve a rest.

Well,

is it His Majesty who has permitted you to go out of the imperial palace?

Well,

don't care for that first.

Why I went out of the imperial palace this time is that

I have something to give you.

What's it?

His Majesty permitted you to leak the topic.

Exactly.

There must be something

that will happen to the imperial examination this time.

His Majesty asked me to go out of the imperial palace and leak the topic.

I do have no idea who I can give this to,

except you.

I can't take it.

What do you think of me?

You behave with integrity

and you're as brave as a chivalrous person.

But,

it doesn't matter.

What's important now is grandfather.

You still don't know the intention of His Majesty, do you?

If you become the Number One Scholar,

and you can be loyal to him.

Zhixia,

even if it's the intention of His Majesty,

you'll get involved

when he investigates and affixes responsibility for the thing.

What on earth has His Majesty told you?

It's too dangerous.

Why do you help him on this?

I…

Now that you've gone out of the imperial palace,

you shouldn't go back there anymore.

Stay with me.

I'll protect you.

Okay. Okay. Okay.

You can continue to play the Chinese zither,

practice your sword

and be the so-called brave swordsman.

Zhixia.

Zhixia.

She's left without any hesitation.

Does she really care for me?

She's gone.

Why do you still think about her?

Master,

what do you think is the feeling of falling in love with anyone?

Oh,

the feeling of falling in love with someone is…

What's it?

It feels like drinking alcohol.

You can feel spicy when you have the sip at the beginning.

Then you'll feel warm when it flows into your stomach.

His Majesty is unhappy.

What on earth is it for?

Ah, where's our big brother?

Go out of the imperial palace.

He intentionally wanted to give what I want,

and he has done whatever he could.

Why do I still think about him?

Sanbao,

send me a bowl of almond juice.

Sanbao.

What's it?

Your Majesty,

it's the almond juice you asked for.

It's not.

Your Majesty.

What does His Majesty mean?

My big brother.

Hey,

when will you go to the Western Regions?

Why do you urge me in such a hurry?

If you marry Lin Yanqing right now,

I won't urge you anymore.

No, I don't.

Have your sugar-coated haws.

Kites.

Have a look at these kites.

They're pretty.

Ah!

Your Majesty,

do you wanna kill me?

Your Majesty.

I'm the one who should get angry, right?

You don't want it, do you?

It's tasteless.

It looks like…

It does look like…

Like whom?

Our big brother.

You're talking nonsense.

It doesn't.

Your Majesty,

Sanbao is coming back.

Sanbao is coming back.

Where is he?

It's here.

I've been finding it for quite a long time.

I haven't expected

it climbed back

itself.

It's so dangerous in the imperial palace.

How can you climb all around?

Your Majesty, what did you call it?

Sanbao.

I've given it a new name,

Sanbao.

Our big brother won't come back.

Everyone,

have you seen it clearly?

Don't treat it just as a piece of paper.

It closely matters

your future

and your destiny.

To tell you the truth,

buying and selling the topic of the imperial examination can be sentenced to death.

So the price of the topic should be…

Everyone,

think about it.

Please take the money.

It's just a little money to express my sincerity.

Something's wrong.

The imperial examination thing isn't

as easy as what His Majesty thought of.

Oh, my god.

You're a vision.

Oh, my god.

You're pretty.

You're so gorgeous.

Is it enough?

Stop it.

You're dressed up like this in a sudden.

We can't believe what we've seen.

Right.

Stop looking at me.

Whether I'm in a dress,

I'm still your boss.

Boss,

please save us.

With compound interest

going on,

Mrs. Emerald would ask us to sell ourselves.

Exactly.

Now you should know

it's better to work for me.

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Fine. Fine. Fine. Stop crying.

I'll go find Mrs. Emerald

and ask her to send you back.

Brother Aotuo,

I have something

to ask you to do.

I've made up my mind.

There's a thing

that you should do for me immediately.

Yes, Your Majesty.

Yanqing.

Zhixia.

Where have you been these days?

How come you squared accounts in every detail with me?

It's certain that I should pay my debt.

This is not what I want.

Where's the silk bag I gave you?

Have you seen the thing inside?

Give it back to me.

Zhixia,

how on earth do I look

in your heart?

I've clearly refused your proposal earlier.

But today you suspect that I've seen what's inside the silk bag, don't you?

I…

I can't explain it clearly to you.

It's so great that you haven't seen what's inside it.

Give it back to me.

What do you wanna do with it?

What on earth are you doing?

Yanqing,

the thing is not

as easy as what you and I think about.

You should pretend I wouldn't have come to you today.

Zhixia,

whom on earth did you do this for,

me or him?

A piece of blank paper.

I'll investigate it for sure.

Boss.

Boss.

How is the thing?

Someone has stolen away our business.

Who dared to steal this kind of business?

I've investigated that they went to the Fulai Inn.

Ladi and Aotuo are minding them there.

Boss, shall we continue to do the business?

High official positions and riches,

as well as bright future,

are all here on the paper.

[Questions]

Exactly.

I swear on my life

it's true.

We get it with tremendous effort.

It's fake. It's fake.

Don't go.

I've done this at great risk.

It's the two dumbs.

Go to hell.

It will be fine, if big brother is here.

Keep saying.

I have nothing to say.

What should we do then?

Shall we continue?

We're truly the ones from the imperial court.

The topics do come from the imperial court.

You should trust us.

Are you telling the truth?

I'm asking whether you're telling the truth.

[Token for imperial palace officials]

Ah.

It's true.

It's the token from the imperial palace.

Of course, it is.

But

why are the ones from the imperial palace are selling topics here?

Yeah. Why?

It's a trade secret. We can say nothing about it.

To buy or not to buy,

it's your own decision.

We're leaving if you don't buy it.

Don't go. Don't, please.

I'll buy it.

I will.

Boss,

I mean, looking from the outside of the inn,

it looks shabby.

But how come the people in and out

are all from families of government officials?

The inn was secretly founded by

some dandies from rich families.

Seemingly, it's a place for studying.

But actually, it's a place for entertaining.

I don't wanna be one of them.

So I haven't got to know much of it.

If His Majesty knows these moths

of the State of Dongsheng,

he'll get furious.

Ah,

Big Brother,

not all are allowed to get into this mysterious place.

How can you make it?

How can you, Big Brother?

How do you know we two brothers are here?

Did you pretend to be anyone from Minister's Residence?

Hush!

You guys go check around first.

Okay.

Aren't we competing for the business?

How come our boss makes money for others?

I have no idea.

I always feel something is wrong

when our boss came back

this time.

Do you mean?

Ah.

Leave it alone. Leave it alone. Please.

Why do you do it again?

Why do you look so woebegone?

What are you thinking about?

His Majesty.

You don't have anything to say to me, do you?

Fine.

If you don't spit it out,

I'll say it for you.

His Majesty sent me out to accomplish the mission

and he has arranged everything well.

But he asked you to do what I was supposed to do.

Big Brother,

haven't you been thinking of running away?

He's right.

You've tried so hard to go out of the imperial palace.

Why do you still think about these things?

I still think about these things?

Am I furious because of these things?

It's he who said he chose me

and trusted me.

But what has everything he did clearly showed?

He's never trusted me.

His Majesty does trust you.

What he wants is to protect you.

Okay.

He's my good friend.

He sent me out,

which I'm grateful for.

Now that he could do what I wanted,

why can't I do anything for him?

Why can't I?

Now that you want so much to work for His Majesty,

why are you so eager to leave the imperial palace?

Why?

Big Brother, since you left,

His Majesty was

so sad.

He chose me to be his eunuch,

helped me out when I was in danger

and sent me out of the imperial palace.

He said he can't play chess.

But I think he treats each of us as his chess piece.

He likes the feeling of

playing his cards right.

He doesn't need me.

He won't be sad at all.

Big Brother,

His Majesty has had no appetite for food and drinks since you left.

He has even released the turtle.

If you do wanna go back,

you can go with us.

I don't wanna go back.

Your expression has shown how much you're worried about His Majesty.

Why do you deny it?

Boss,

I've checked around.

There…

there's nothing wrong.

Boss,

we're watching them.

None of them will be able to run away.

Yeah.

Great.

Aotuo,

pack up my belongings.

We're leaving for the Western Regions tomorrow.

The Western Regions?

Big Brother.

Go back and tell him,

this is the last thing I do for him.

From this day onwards,

I won't go back to the imperial palace.

Big Brother.

Mind yourselves.

Mind yourselves.

What on earth has happened between big brother and His Majesty?

It doesn't matter. Let's go back and make the report.

All of you are mysterious.

What the hell?

Wait for me.

Hey.

Brother,

why haven't I seen Sanbao

these days?

Where is he?

Why are you so unhappy?

Shall I have a chat with you for a while?

This wood man looks like Sanbao so much.

Could you give it to me?

My expression has shown I'm worried?

Is it that obvious?

Is it?

Boss,

it's the first time that you've done the losing business.

You're unhappy.

You're in a bad mood.

And you'll be mean.

Boss,

things happening in the capital city are complicated,

so I wanna go back to the Western Regions.

We can also do big business

after we go back to the Western Regions.

Yeah.

It's right.

It's you

who have been following me after I left the imperial palace.

Why don't you inquire around?

How dare you provoke me, Jade Qilin of the capital?

They're coming for me.

You guys leave first.

Hurry up.

Dudes, why are you standing still?

Let's fight against them.

Come on.

Let's go.

Come on.

Boss, you should run away.

Sanbao, come here.

Come on, Sanbao.

Stop running.

Let's go.

Thanks for saving me.

Where are we going?

Bring you to meet Eunuch Hai.

What?

Eunuch, you've been here.

Sanbao has been brought back by us.

Eunuch, please have a look.

Eunuch, please forgive us.

We did put Sanbao in this box.

How could he run away?

I…

I have another important piece of information.

I'm wondering whether I can make amends for my fault.

Spit it out.

Sanbao pretended to be someone from Minister's Residence

when he stayed in Laifu Inn.

Yanqing,

why don't you start writing?

I'm asking you.

Why don't you respond?

Yanqing.

You. You.

Take it away immediately.

If Her Majesty finds it,

I guess no one will be able to help you out.

Yanqing.

Yanqing.

You…

you're…

How dare you?

You have some bad intentions and show a contempt for the imperial examination.

Guards.

Take him away and kill him.

His Majesty is coming.

We hope Your Majesty can live a long life.

Mother.

Lin Yanqing,

I pity you since you're the grandson of the Prime Minister.

So I gave you a special permission to take part in the imperial examination.

Why are you making trouble here?

I'm reporting to you, Your Majesty.

I do wanna answer questions.

But I don't wanna answer those questions

that have already been known by the public.

Rumor has it that the topic of the imperial exactly has been released.

So whether I answer it or not, it won't matter.

I'd rather write down nothing

than hand in some standard answers.

I hope Your Majesty can understand.

Lin Yanqing,

do you know you're committing a capital crime?

If Your Majesty don't believe me, you can check these test questions.

If I'm not telling the truth,

Your Majesty can do whatever you want to me.

You're making irresponsible remarks.

Guards. Take him away.

Please wait a sec, Mother.

Anything related to the imperial examination is important.

What he has said

must have a sensational effect.

To let the public know the truth,

I think,

we should detain them all first.

Lin Yanqing,

I'll check the paper in person.

If you show your contempt for the imperial examination

because of what has happened to the Prime Minister,

I won't let you go so easily.

How could it happen?

It seems there's a large number of people

who have got the answers of the imperial examination in the capital city.

Kill them. Kill them all.

And those who work in Imperial Academy should be killed, either.

Your Majesty, the law doesn't punish numerous offenders.

It's reasonable that Your Majesty wants to punish all the examinees who have cheated at the examination.

But if you wanna kill all the people related to the thing,

how will the public treat you

as well as the imperial court?

If we don't handle the thing in a proper way,

how could we gain the credibility of the imperial court?

The imperial examination will be a notorious jerk, won't it?

Mother, what do you think we should do?

It's a huge event.

A leak of test questions will harm the credibility of the imperial family.

You should be the decision maker.

Your Majesty, after investigation, there's one who has been found guilty of serious malpractice.

Some of the examinees have got fake answers, whose circumstances of the crime are not that serious.

And there are also some of them who haven't cheated at the examination.

How will you deal with it?

General Gong,

how would the late emperor deal with anything like this when he was alive?

He…

Spit it out.

Yes.

Cut off the heads of all the criminals in public to warn the ordinary.

Fine.

Do what General Gong has said.

Kill them all.

Yes.

Officer Li who's the test maker from Imperial Academy

can't absolve himself from the blame, so kill him too.

Those who had minor circumstances of the crime are sentenced to exile

and will never be allowed to take part in the imperial examination.

Then what about those who haven't cheated?

I'll set the questions again

to give them a second chance.

We hope Your Majesty can live a long life.

It's God's will and the emperor command that

A wiser should know justice.

A country will be prosperous with talents.

I need the talents who can conciliate the public.

I'll appoint those who can assist me in governing the country.

Lin Yanqing

is wise and has foresight.

He has great talent and can use it properly.

He dares to expostulate.

Now he's the Number One Scholar.

Yang Yaozong ranks second.

Li Wenxuan ranks third.

I appoint him as the Bachelor of Imperial Academy.

I hope he can make some achievements.

Both the emperor and his officials should supervise each other.

And he should know his responsibilities in mind.

The imperial edict is issued to inform the public

by the emperor in person.

Thanks for the grace of Your Majesty.

We hope Your Majesty can live a long life.

Why do you come back?

You…

The kick I gave you is because

you didn't comply with the code of brotherhood.

Your Majesty.

You've kicked so hard.

Don't move.

Stop walking back and forth.

You make me dizzy.

He pretended to be weak

but gave us a fatal attack.

Your Majesty,

we shouldn't be fooled by His Majesty

all the time.

If Lin Yanqing hadn't told the truth,

His Majesty wouldn't have known it, would he?

General Gong,

it isn't you who have leaked out information, is it?

Your Majesty,

how could you suspect me?

We're on the same team.

Besides,

why should both of us

do what His Majesty says all the time?

The punishment of the imperial examination is harsh all the time.

If I had meant to make the decision unilaterally

under the eye of all the civil and military officials,

I would have yielded power today.

But it's your nephew.

If they kept on investigating, both of us would get involved.

We'd better leave it behind

and pray for ourselves.

It's…

How do you get the access to the imperial palace?

Aren't your hurt?

Fang and Yuan found me.

And they wanted to bring me to meet Eunuch Hai.

So I followed what they asked.

How smart you are!

You're the only one who dared to do this all over the world.

On one hand, you sent me out of the imperial palace.

On the other hand, you tested Official Yanqing.

Your Majesty,

you're the smartest one.

The imperial examination is the root of a country.

How can I allow these moths

to harm the interest of the whole country

with black box operation for themselves?

But I wasn't able to investigate it publicly.

I could only achieve it with black box operation.

You…

you had planned so well, but you missed one thing.

Yanqing is so stubborn and he behaves with integrity,

so he didn't even have a glance at that silk bag.

You had expected that I would open it.

Then what about Guard Zhang Yang?

Through the imperial examination,

I wanted to know

not only who are the subordinates of Her Majesty and Gong Ye,

but among the people from families of government officials,

who wanna be officials

to acquire rank and wealth in their life time.

I wanted to find them all.

So,

if Gong Ye and Her Majesty told the truth,

you would punish all of them.

If the guard lied,

those people would be banished as a warning.

But there were so many examinees from poor families

and you couldn't punish them.

So you would give them a second chance

to take part in the examination.

The imperial examination this time has achieved so many things at only one stroke

and each link is related.

Your Majesty,

what a great plan you've made!

Only you can understand me.

I…

I don't think I have given you some help.

Nope.

If it weren't you,

Yanqing, that bullhead,

wouldn't have caused

such a big trouble in the exam

and acted the whole play with me.

Zhixia,

thank you.

You can't just say it.

You have to show something substantial.

I'll reward you,

heavily.

Are you sure?

An emperor's words are to be taken seriously.

Then I'll make a fortune.

What?

Zhixia has gone again?

This time is a bit different from what it used to be.

The followers of him

came to report in a flurry

saying he met a killer.

I sent people everywhere to search the trace of Zhixia that night,

but they found nothing.

I think there must be something wrong,

so I come to you for help.

Does it mean Zhixia went to the imperial palace again?

Went to the imperial palace?

You've known Zhixia has been to the imperial palace, haven't you?

Don't worry, Mrs. Emerald.

I'll try my utmost

to search the trace of Zhixia in the imperial palace.

Well, Yanqing,

Zhixia always mentioned a master.

Do you know who he is?

I have no idea.

What's it?

You just reward me with this.

You're stingy!

I made it on my own.

It's one and only in this world.

Besides…

It looks pretty good.

I'll take it

since you made it sincerely.

There's such a beautiful place in the imperial palace.

You've tried that hard to leave here.

Why do you come back?

Wow!

It's pretty there.

Because you're afraid that the imperial examination thing

is too complicated for me to deal with. So…

It's not.

It's because you assigned me a mission

but you ended up leaving me

with only a piece of blank paper.

I couldn't reconcile myself to it.

So I came back to get an explanation from you.

Okay.

Now I have made myself clear.

I'll send you out of the imperial palace tomorrow morning.

What?

Haven't you said

the imperial palace is so small that you can't take a fresh breath here?

The air here is fresh.

Aren't you afraid of being in danger in the palace?

You have no idea the place outside the palace is more dangerous.

Aren't you afraid of getting involved in troubles?

Well,

I mean.

I'll promote you to a eunuch in chief tomorrow.

Stupid.

Then Eunuch Hai won't be able to bully you.

Wow!

I know you're the nicest to me.
